• GWT forced height HTMLPanel

  Hello, I'm developing a GWT project, and I encountered a problematic cross-browsering problem. When using firefox, there are problems with the display of all the pages. I found the reason why : In UIBinder, each of my pages are wrapped by a "g:HTMLPanel" : at start and at the end of the xml file, to wrap the content of all the pages When doing this, the generated code of the panel goes like this : div style="width: 100%; height: 100%; .... The problem is that "height : 100%". If I remove it with firebug, the display is perfect. So my goal is to programatically remove that generated 100% height.. But no way to do it ! I tried everything : setHeight, setSize, working on the Element itself with getElement().methods()... I tried to do things like style.clear(), everything that could have a chance to work.. But in the generated code that "height: 100%" will ALWAYS be there. If I set it's height to "50%" or "50px" it has no effect at all. I even tried to give it an ID, then with pure javascript to change it's style, but no solution either.. Note : I'm sure that I'm working on the right element : adding a styleName, for example, works well. Any idea ? Your help would be really appreciated, I have no clue of how to remove this bit of generated code, and I've been looking for hours already :(:(:(:( Best regards, Nils

• Place Query Results into Array then Implode?

  Basically I pull an Id from table1, use that id to find a site id in table2, then need to use the site ids in an array, implode, and query table3 for site names. I cannot implode the array correctly first I got an error, then used a while loop. • Google GWT cross-browser support: is it BS ?

  I developed a browser-deployed full-text search app in FlashBuilder which communicates RESTfully with a remote web-server. The software fits into a tiny niche--it is for use with ancient languages not modern ones, and there's no way I'm going to make any money on it but I did spend a lot of time on it. Now that Apple won't allow Flash on the iPad, I'm looking for a 100% javascript solution and was led to consider GWT. It looked promising, but one of the apps being "showcased" as a stellar example of what can be done with GWT has this disclaimer on their website (names {removed} to protect the potentially innocent) : Your current web browser (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/532.5 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/4.1.249.1045 Safari/532.5) is not officially supported by {company and product name were here}. If you experience any problems using this site please install either Microsoft Internet Explorer 6+ or Mozilla Firefox 3.5+ before contacting {product name was here} Support. What gives when GWT apps aren't "officially" supported on Chrome? What grade (A, B, C, D, F) would you give to GWT for cross-browser support? For folks who don't get these kinds of letter grades, A is "excellent" and "F" is failure, and "C" is average. Thanks for your opinions.

• Help with editing data in entity framework.

  Title of this question is simple because there is no an easy explanation for what I'm trying to ask you. I hope you'll understand in the end :). I have to tables in my database: Company and Location (relationship:one to many) and corresponding entity sets. In my wpf application I have some datagrid which I want to fill with locations and to be able to edit every row in separate window as some form of details view (so I don't want to edit my data in datagrid). I did this by accessing Location entity from selected row and creating a new Location entity and then I copy properties from original entity to newly created. Something like cloning the object. After editing if I press OK changed data is copied to original object back, and if I press Cancel nothing happens. Of course, you probably thinking I could use NoTracking option and AttachAsModified method as was mentioned as solution in some earlier questions(see:http://stackoverflow.com/questions/803022/changing-entities-in-the-entityframework) by Alex James, but lets say I had some problems about that and I have my own reasons for doing this. Finally, because navigation property(Company) of my location entity is assigned to newly created location object(during cloning) from some reason in object context additional object as copy of object I want to edit from datagrid is created without my will(similar problem :http://blogs.msdn.com/alexj/archive/2009/12/02/tip-47-how-fix-up-can-make-it-hard-to-change-relationships.aspx). So, when I do ObjectContext.SaveChanges it inserts additional row of data into my database table Location, the same as the one i wanted to edit. I read about sth like this, but I don't quite understand why is that and how to block or override this. I hope I was clear as I could. Please, solutions or some other ideas.

• Binding a DropDownList inside a DetailsView

  Hello, I'm having problems trying to populate a dropdownlist from the database. When I'm trying to set the datasource I can't find the dropdown control, it's in a DetailsView so I think it might have something to do with it only being created when it's in edit mode. It still says it's in current mode when I'm editing though, so not sure what's going on there. • LINQ Datacontext Disposal Issues

  I am getting a Cannot access object: DataContext after it's been disposed in the below DAL method. I thought that I would be okay calling dispose there. result is an IEnumurable and I thought it was IQueryable that caused these kinds of problems. What am I doing wrong? How SHOULD I be disposing of my DataContext. Is there something better to be returning then a DataTable? This is a Desktop app that points at SQL 2005. • Programmer Puzzle: Encoding a chess board state throughout a game

  Not strictly a question, more of a puzzle... Over the years, I've been involved in a few technical interviews of new employees. Other than asking the standard "do you know X technology" questions, I've also tried to get a feel for how they approach problems. Typically, I'd send them the question by email the day before the interview, and expect them to come up with a solution by the following day. Often the results would be quite interesting - wrong, but interesting - and the person would still get my recommendation if they could explain why they took a particular approach. So I thought I'd throw one of my questions out there for the Stack Overflow audience. Question: What is the most space-efficient way you can think of to encode the state of a chess game (or subset thereof)? That is, given a chess board with the pieces arranged legally, encode both this initial state and all subsequent legal moves taken by the players in the game. No code required for the answer, just a description of the algorithm you would use. EDIT: As one of the posters has pointed out, I didn't consider the time interval between moves. Feel free to account for that too as an optional extra :) EDIT2: Just for additional clarification... Remember, the encoder/decoder is rule-aware. The only things that really need to be stored are the player's choices - anything else can be assumed to be known by the encoder/decoder. • How to add a scrollable NSTableView programmatically

  I'm trying to add a tableview to a view in code instead of using Interface Builder and unfortunately it's causing some problems =( Here's an example of how I'm doing it now. NSScrollView *scrollView = [[NSScrollView alloc] initWithFrame:someRect]; NSTableView *tableView = [[NSTableView alloc] initWithFrame: scrollView.bounds]; resultsTableView.dataSource = self; resultsScrollView.documentView = resultsTableView; [someView addSubview: scrollView]; So basically I'm just putting the tableView inside the scrollView (because that's what IB is doing) and then adding the latter as a subview of the someView. The result is that a tableView appears - but the no data is shown within the tableView. Debugging shows that the dataSource is being asked for how many rows are in the tableView but the method: tableView:objectValueForTableColumn:row: is never being called. I suspect that this is because of my way of creating the tableView. I've tried google but no luck and the "Introduction to Table Views Programming Guide" on macdevcenter wasn't helpful either. • Using singleton instead of a global static instance

  I ran into a problem today and a friend recommended I use a global static instance or more elegantly a singleton pattern. I spent a few hours reading about singletons but a few things still escape me. Background: What Im trying to accomplish is creating an instance of an API and use this one instance in all my classes (as opposed to making a new connection, etc). There seems to be about 100 ways of creating a singleton but with some help from yoda I found some thread safe examples. ..so given the following code: public sealed class Singleton { public static Singleton Instance { get; private set; } private Singleton() { APIClass api = new APIClass(); //Can this be done? } static Singleton() { Instance = new Singleton(); } } How/Where would you instantiate the this new class and how should it be called from a separate class? EDIT: I realize the Singleton class can be called with something like Singleton obj1 = Singleton.Instance(); but would I be able to access the methods within the APIs Class (ie. obj1.Start)? (not that I need to, just asking) EDIT #2: I might have been a bit premature in checking the answer but I do have one small thing that is still causing me problems. The API is launching just fine, unfortunately Im able to launch two instances? • Mysql latin1 turkish data and delphi 2010 utf8

  Hello, I have tables collating latin1_general_ci and have turkish character values. And i can use this data on delphi 7+zeos with no problem. but i want to upgrade my delphi to 2010 version but zeos too slow as i saw. so i want to use odbc+ado or dbexpress solution. dbexpress solution works fine , display my data as entered and write as entered table without any change to column charset. but dbexpress has problems as i saw. for example when i select * from table which has column types as varchar,decimal,int,tinyint,text give av errors on xp systems. vista and 7 does not give any error and work fine(not fully tested). ado solution(dbgo) works fine but its not show my data as entered.its want everything be utf. but i don't want to convert my data to utf before test everything. how can i see my data as entered and write client side utf and store latin1(as zeos or dbexpress do). i was tried many other options. eg. mysql side collation and charset parameters. sorry for my bad english. i hope someone understand me. thanks.

• Mode specific key bindings

  Hey, I have a minor mode that also comes with a global mode. The mode have some key bindings and I want the user to have the posibility to specify what bindings should work for each mode. (my-minor-mode-bindings-for-mode 'some-mode '(key1 key2 ...)) (my-minor-mode-bindings-for-mode 'some-other-mode '(key3 key4 ...)) So I need some kind of mode/buffer-local key map. Buffer local is a bit problematic since the user can change the major mode. I have tried some solutions of which neither works any good. Bind all possible keys always and when the user types the key, check if the key should be active in that mode. Execute action if true, otherwise fall back. Like the previous case only that no keys are bound. Instead I use a pre command hook and check if the key pressed should do anything. For each buffer update (whatever that means), run a function that first clears the key map and then updates it with the bindings for that particular mode. I have tried these approaches and I found problems with all of them. Do you know of any good way to solve this? Thanks!

• Parsing Lisp S-Expressions with known schema in C#

  I'm working with a service that provides data as a Lisp-like S-Expression string. This data is arriving thick and fast, and I want to churn through it as quickly as possible, ideally directly on the byte stream (it's only single-byte characters) without any backtracking. These strings can be quite lengthy and I don't want the GC churn of allocating a string for the whole message. My current implementation uses CoCo/R with a grammar, but it has a few problems. Due to the backtracking, it assigns the whole stream to a string. It's also a bit fiddly for users of my code to change if they have to. I'd rather have a pure C# solution. CoCo/R also does not allow for the reuse of parser/scanner objects, so I have to recreate them for each message. Conceptually the data stream can be thought of as a sequence of S-Expressions: (item 1 apple)(item 2 banana)(item 3 chainsaw) Parsing this sequence would create three objects. The type of each object can be determined by the first value in the list, in the above case "item". The schema/grammar of the incoming stream is well known. Before I start coding I'd like to know if there are libraries out there that do this already. I'm sure I'm not the first person to have this problem.

• Extracting [] elements from form collection - mvc - should use icollection but have mix of types

  hi there. have looked at Phil Haacks project on books at http://haacked.com/archive/2008/10/23/model-binding-to-a-list.aspx which has been useful, but I have a mix of data types. I use a modelview so that i can have a mix of objects, in this case: Order (ie order.id, order.date etc), Customer, SoilSamplingOrder and a list of SoilSamplingSubJobs which is like this [0].id, [0].field, [1].id, [1].field etc Perhaps I should be using ICollection instead of List? I had problems getting UpdateModel to work so I used an extract from collection method. the first 4 method calls : orderRepository.FindOrder(id); etc give the model the original to be edited. but after this point i'm a little lost in how to update the subjobs. I hope i have delineated enough to make sense of the problem.   Hello, If we have this code in our interface .h file: NSString *fieldNameToStoreModel; NSFetchedResultsController *fetchedResultsController; NSManagedObjectContext *managedObjectContext; DataEntered *dataEntered; In our implementation file .m we must have: - (void)dealloc { [fieldNameToStoreModel release]; [fetchedResultsController release]; [managedObjectContext release]; [dataEntered release]; [super dealloc]; } The 4 objects are assigned from a previous UIViewController, like this: UIViewController *detailViewController; detailViewController = [[CarModelSelectViewController alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewStylePlain]; ((CarModelSelectViewController *)detailViewController).dataEntered = self.dataEntered; ((CarModelSelectViewController *)detailViewController).managedObjectContext = self.managedObjectContext; ((CarModelSelectViewController *)detailViewController).fieldNameToStoreModel = self.fieldNameToStoreModel; [self.navigationController pushViewController:detailViewController animated:YES]; [detailViewController release]; The objects that now live in the new UIViewController, are the same as the previous UIViewController, and I can't release them in the new UIViewController ? The problems is that sometimes, my app crashes when I leave the new UIViewController and go to the previous one, not always. Normally the error that I'm getting is a double free object. I've used the malloc_error_break but I'm still not sure wich object is. Sometimes I can go from the previous UIViewController to the next one and come back 4 or 5 times, and the double free object appears. If I don't release any object, all is working and Instruments says that there are no memory leaks ... So, the final question, should I release those objects here or not ? Thanks, m.

• Perl: Exporting variables in a subclass

  I have a base class like this: package MyClass; use vars qw/$ME list of vars/; use Exporter; @ISA = qw/Exporter/; @EXPORT_OK = qw/ many variables & functions/; %EXPORT_TAGS = (all => \@EXPORT_OK ); sub my_method { } sub other_methods etc { } --- more code--- I want to subclass MyClass, but only for one method. package MySubclass; use MyClass; use vars qw/@ISA/; @ISA = 'MyClass'; sub my_method { --- new method } And I want to call this MySubclass like I would the original MyClass, and still have access to all of the variables and functions from exporter. However I am having problems getting the Exporter variables from the original class, MyClass, to export correctly. Do I need to run exporter again inside the subclass? That seems redundant and unclear. Example file: #!/usr/bin/perl use MySubclass /$ME/; -- rest of code But I get compile errors when I try to import the $ME variable. Any suggestions?

• Portlet container like pluto or jetspeed on google app engine?

  I am trying to build something "portlet server"-ish on the google app engine. (as open source) I'd like to use the JSR168/286 standards, but I think that the restrictions of the app engine will make it somewhere between tricky and impossible. Has anyone tried to run jetspeed or an application that uses pluto internally on the google app engine? Based on my current knowledge of portlets and the google app engine I'm anticipating these problems: A war file with portlets is from the deployment standpoint more or less a complete webapp (yes, I know that it doesn't really work without a portal server). The war file may contain it's own web.xml etc. This makes deployment on the app engine rather difficult, because the apps are not visible to each other, so all portlet containing archives need to be included in the war file of the deployed "app engine based portal server". The "portlets" are (at least in liferay) started as permanent servlet processes, based on their portlet.xmls and web.xmls which is located in the same spot for every portlet archive that is loaded. I think this may be problematic in the app engine, because everything is in one big "web app", so it may be tricky to access the portlet.xmls from each archive. This prevents a 100% compatibility in my opinion. Is here anyone who has any experience with the combination of portlets and the app engine? Do you think it's feasible to modify jetspeed, pluto or any other portlet container to be able to run it on the app engine?

• Enterprise Eclipse Provisioning - Or - How to share your standard Eclipse setup with other developer

  We use Eclipse as the IDE for developing all sorts of Java/J2EE applications in our 150 people odd IT department. One of the common problems we have been seeing is that developers download and install different versions of Eclipse and plugins based on their personal likes and dislikes. We have been trying to bring some consistency to this and have standardized on the version and the plugins that developers should be using. So the problem now is how do we distribute this installation to the team. We have zipped the directories and shared it through a shared drive. But I am looking for a better solution using some kind of provisioning tool for Eclipse using which people can install the IDE or get updates. Has anyone faced this problem? What are your solutions to this? How do you ensure a standard Eclipse environment across developers? I found Yoxos as a potential solution to this. Does anyone have any experience with it? Can p2 be used to do this?

Their position in the state space is given by an IPosition. Each state then has one (or more) values IValue. I am simplifying the hierarchy, as it's a bit more complex than described. The idea of having this hierarchy defined with generics is to allow for different implementations of the same concepts (an IStateSpace will be implemented both as a matrix as an graph, etc). Would can I get away with this? How do you generally solve this kind of problems? Which kind of designs are used in these cases? Thanks

  Hi, I'm using TPT inheritance in EF CTP5 with SQL CE 4. I have an abstract base class "Widget" with common properties like "Title". I can successfully save concrete Widget implementations e.g. "TwitterWidget". However, I have a problem retrieving all widgets (or rather ALL widget implementations). My repository exposes the following: public IQueryable<Widget> GetAll(); This effectively returns the IDbSet from the DbContext. The following queries work fine: repo.GetAll().ToList(); repo.GetAll().Where(w => w.Title == "Test").ToList(); repo.GetAll().SingleOrDefault(w => w.Title == "Test"); repo.GetAll().Where(w => w.Title == "Test").OrderBy(x => x.Title).ToList(); However, if I write the following query: repo.GetAll().OrderBy(w => w.Title); I get the following error: Test 'PlanetCloud.Portfolio.Tests.Data.PersistenceTestFixture.Can_get_widgets' failed: System.AccessViolationException : Attempted to read or write protected memory. • More than one location provider at same time

  I have some problems with location systems. I have a service that implements locationlistener. I want to get the best location using network when possible, gps if network is not enough accurate (accuracy greater than 300mt). The problem is this. I need location (accurate if possible, inaccuarte otherways) every 5 minutes. I start with a : LocationManager lm=(LocationManager)getApplicationContext().getSystemService(LOCATION_SERVICE); Criteria criteria = new Criteria(); criteria.setAccuracy(Criteria.ACCURACY_COARSE); criteria.setAltitudeRequired(false); criteria.setBearingRequired(false); String provider=lm.getBestProvider(criteria, true); if(provider!=null){ lm.requestLocationUpdates( provider,5*60*1000,0,this); In "onLocationChanged" i listen to locations and when i get a location with accuracy greater than 300mt, i want to change to gps location system. If I remove allupdates and then request for gps updates, like this: lm.removeUpdates((android.location.LocationListener) this); Criteria criteria = new Criteria(); criteria.setAccuracy(Criteria.ACCURACY_FINE); criteria.setAltitudeRequired(false); criteria.setBearingRequired(false); String provider=lm.getBestProvider(criteria, true); if(provider!=null){ lm.requestLocationUpdates( provider,5*60*1000,0,this); } system stops waiting for gpsupdate, and if i'm in a close room it can stay without location updates for hours, ignoring timeupdate indications. Is there a way to tell locationprovider to switch to network if gps is not giving a location in "x" seconds? or how to understand when gps is not localizing? or if i requestlocationupdates from 2 providers at same time (network and gps), can be a problem? Any suggestion?

  I download the Application Verifier 4.0 to test my App for check if could have problems on Vista/7. I run from Delphi 2010 debugger, and stop in CPU view. Obviously, I don't understand anything about assembler!. So, I try running directly from the windows explorer, and the App die. • 1D Function into 2D Function Interpolation

  Hello. I have a 1D function which I want to interpolate into 2D function. I know the function should have "Polar Symmetry". Hence I use the following code (Matlab Syntax): Assuming the 1D function is LSF of the length 15. [x, y] = meshgrid([-7:7]); r = sqrt(x.^2 + y.^2); PSF = interp1([-7:7], LSF, r(:)); % Sometimes using 'spline' option, same results. PSF = reshape(PSF, [7, 7]); I have few problems: 1. Got some overshoot at the edges (As there some Extrapolation). 2. Can't enforce some assumptions (Monotonic, Non Negative). Is there a better Interpolation method for those circumstances? I couldn't find "Lanczos" based interpolation I can use the same way as interp1 (For a certain vector of points, in "imresize" you can only set the length). Is there such function anywhere? Has anyone encountered a function which allows enforcing some assumptions (Monotonically Decreasing, Non Negative, etc..). Thanks.

• MissingMethodException thrown when calling new form in Compact Framework

  I'm updating an old mobile device application for better flexibility. I had basically added the ability to configure the address of our SQL server in the case that we want to use our test server as opposed to our production server. I don't think this is causing the problem, but I wanted to state it. I also upgraded the project from a VS 2000 project to a VS 2005 project. The issue I am having is that when I try to run the program in the VS emulator for Pocket PC, I get an error. It occurs after our "main menu" form loads and the user selects the next form to load. The form is initialized without issue, but when we try to run the .ShowDialog() method, it throws a System.MissingMethodException. I don't have a lot of experience with the Compact Framework and really have no idea where to start looking for problems. I stepped the debugger through the entire initializing process for the new form and it ran without issue. But, again, when we come to the ShowDialog call, it throws the error. Any ideas in where to start looking or known issues would be greatly appreciated.

  I have a WCF service which can run as Console App and a Windows Service. I have exactly the same code, but running in a windows service and I get the following error when I try to call any of the methods from a client: System.ServiceModel.Security.MessageSecurityException was unhandled Message="An unsecured or incorrectly secured fault was received from the other party. See the inner FaultException for the fault code and detail." Source="mscorlib" StackTrace: Server stack trace: at System.ServiceModel.Channels.SecurityChannelFactory`1.SecurityRequestChannel.ProcessReply(Message reply, SecurityProtocolCorrelationState correlationState, TimeSpan timeout) ...... (lots of stacktrace info - not very useful) InnerException: System.ServiceModel.FaultException Message="An error occurred when verifying security for the message." The exception tells me nothing. I'm assuming that it has something to do with acces to system resources from the Windows Service. I've tried running it under the same account as the console app, but no luck. Does anyone have any ideas?

• Red5 Unable to Start Distribution.

  I have installed subclipse, Ant, IvyDE, Red5 Plugin for eclipse, All of the Environmental variables are set and the necessary elements have been added to the path. I am attempting to create a Red5 Distribution by using eclipse, opening Build.xml right clicking dist [default] in the outline window and running as and selecting Ant Builder. Eclipse says that the build is Successful. I first stop the Red5 Service, and then I attempt to run the build I create in eclipse it fails, below are the errors that display in the command prompt.
