• No outbound internet connection after restarting CentOS 6.3

  After restarting a headless CentOS 6.3 machine, it lost outbound internet connectivity, i.e. I can still connect to the server via SSH (ssh root@**.126.18.56), but stuff such as ping google.com gives google.com: unknown host, and yum list some_package gives a lot of network errors. EDIT: Weirdly, /etc/resolv.conf does not contain any entries, or none that I can make sense of: # Generated by NetworkManager search sui-inter.net # No nameservers found; try putting DNS servers into your # ifcfg files in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts like so: # # DNS1=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx # DNS2=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx # DOMAIN=lab.foo.com bar.foo.com So is it possible that rebooting the server erased that file? It worked before at least! And how do I solve this? By the way, pinging an IP address works.

• Performance-optimizing Oracle 10g on a server that is also a Tomcat JSP app server?

  I have inherited a simple RedHat 5 - 64bit platform. It has SCSI disks on RAID1, with 16GB of RAM. Double Core CPU. Oracle 10g, Release 2. This would be a decent platform for running the DB only, perhaps, but the same server in an "A-A mode" clustering (very simple) also runs Tomcat and there are several Java servlets running on this. Sadly there is no caching platform etc. We only use an external CDN for some html caching. I am personally more familiar with web environments on the LAMPP platform (apache, php, mysql, postgresql). PROBLEM: Because the server has both Tomcat JSP/Java and Oracle 10g running on the same server, with no caching, I have some issues of the server going down. Often, sadly. QUESTION: What are my options in terms of improving performance of all these different apps? Connection Pooling? Example, in Postgresql world we have PgBouncer, which really helps things. Does Oracle have something similar? Or is there a famous Java-based external pooler that people use in production environments? (I'm not familiar with Java) Any "SQL cache" as in the MySQL and Postgresql world? Any other kind of application cache, as "APC" or "eAccelarator" in the PHP world? The "OSCache" stuff from the Java world (JSP thingie I found on Google: http://onjava.com/pub/a/onjava/2005/01/05/jspcache.html?page=2) ... What else? Sorry if this is a noob question. I have googled and googled, but problem is I don't know what to google for, other than the broad general concepts above. So if not full answers, I would even appreciate basic pointers and I am happy to JFGI myself. Thanks!

• Strange Behaviour with Unicode Characters in Windows

  Ok, I do not know if this is a programming question, but it certainly is a technical one so I am asking it here. I was working on some internationalization stuff in my PHP code, and in order to ensure that my generated HTML shows up Unicode correctly based on the encoding and stuff I decided to add some Chinese text to my PHP page, which then echoes it into the browser to complete my test case. So I went into google and typed "Chinese", copied the first Chinese text that the search returned (which was ??/??). I then copied it into Notepad++ which is my editor, and to my surprise showed up as boxes similar to [][]/[][]. So I thought the encoding in Notepad++ was messed up and I changed the encoding to UTF-8 and UCS, neither worked. I did it fresh in a newly encoded file, still I got the boxes. The same content when I paste into Google and StackOverFlow (like I did in this posting) shows up correct Chinese! I even opened up Windows Clipboard Viewer and the content is represented in the Clipboard as boxes! I tried pasting it into Windows Explorer address bar and using to rename a file to, but I still get boxes. But it shows up correctly when pasted into my Chrome Browser address bar! Is this a Windows issue? Since I am able to paste it correctly in SO, the data in memory should be encoded correctly right? But if that is the case why does it show up as boxes in the Clipboard Viewer? I am confused here...By the way I am using Windows XP with SP3. (I am asking this question here, even if it is not programmatic, because it is preventing me from running my programming test cases..)

• Outlook 2010 search not working after upgrade to windows 8

  After upgrading my computer to Windows 8 Outlook 2010 has stopped displaying search results. Normally you can enter a (part) of a word in the search box on top of the inbox list and it will show you result immediatly. Even mails allready visible on the screen are not found. Somebody familiar with this issue? Update: maybe relevant: I use an Google Apps Pro account. All mail is synced and locally available in Outlook 2010. I did not change this in any way while upgrading, it was working perfectly before. I can scroll through all the e-mails, new mails are coming in as expected. This morning I received two mails from a person by the name of Rosanne. When searching on her name in Outlook it gives me One (1) result, the last mail from today. Update 2: Rebuilding the index seemed to be working. But after another day it stopped working again. No results whatsoever in Outlook search. Rebuilding indexes every day is not an option as it takes several hours. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that I use Google Apps Pro. It acts like a Exchange server to outlook. In indexing options (configuration) I added the directories containg the PST from this service (mail is also synced locally)

• How to make my Ubuntu an internet gateway for my Android phone

  I want to use the internet of my school on my Android, the problem is they have a Squid proxy, and many applications on my phone don't use the proxy at all. The obvious solution is to install a transparent proxy on my Android to force all applications to connect through it. The problem is that I need to root the phone to make it work, and I don't want to do it because it's not really my phone and rooting is a little risky- Another solution, which is safer, is to make my computer run as a gateway, so I put my Ubuntu IP in the gateway parameter of the phone. I'm running a small proxy on my ubuntu (cntlm), so I redirect the Android traffic to it. I did it with "iptables" as follows: iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -s 10.0.1.118 -p tcp -j REDIRECT --to-ports 8888 iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -s 10.0.1.118 -p udp -j REDIRECT --to-ports 8888 10.0.1.118 is the IP of the phone, 8888 is the port of cntlm (proxy on my PC). Now, on the phone: When I enter www.google.com on the navigator I get nothing (web site not found, error message of Firefox). But, when I enter http://74.125.143.101 (IP of Google) I get an error message from the school proxy (so it worked in some way – my PC redirected the traffic of the phone to the Squid proxy). The error message is : The requested URL could not be retrieved while trying to process the request get / http/1.1 host 74.125.143.101 user-Agent ... ... I think the problem is in the "GET" header,it should be GET 74.125.143.101 HTTP/1.1. But I don't understand what's happening, and I'm a certified CCNA.

• Can't access apache from outsite my local network

  UPDATED: Now, when I type my external ip like xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8079, i can access xampp defaults page. But the strange is that when someone else from outside my network, try to access it using the same ip, it doesnt work. I Think it should, because its the external ip. I'm getting crazy. I have tried for hours to access xampp defaults page from outside my local network. My ISP blocks port 80 and 8080. So I changed apache to listen to port 8079 Listen 8079 My local computer ip is 10.1.1.2 I can access the webserver, from any computer on my local network when I type http://10.1.1.2:8079 I also oppended the port 8079 on my modem, as the image shows bellow. (I think i did it right) When apache is running on my computer, if I test the port 8079 at http://canyouseeme.org/ i get the message "Success: I can see your service on xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx on port (8079) Your ISP is not blocking port 8079" If apache is not running I get "Error: I could not see your service on xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx on port (8079) Reason: Connection refused". So, it's clear that the port 8079 is oppened. But when I type xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8079 on google chrome for example, I get Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8079 What can I do to solve this, to allow apache to server the pages? I don't know what else I shoud configure. Please, help me. Thanks.

• Unable to install Xdebug

  I've registered xdebug in php.ini (as per http://xdebug.org/docs/install) but it's not showing up when i run "php -m" or when i get a test page to run "phpinfo()". I've just installed the latest version of XAMPP. Can anyone provide any suggestions in getting xdebug to show up?   I'm trying to debug my first app on the device and got this error message, A valid provisioning profile for this executable was not found. I've gone thru the Apple manuals, checked SO and other sites but cannot work out what I've done wrong? This is what I've done so far. Got my provisioning profile. I check Organizer and it's there, plus it shows that it is installed on my iPhone (green button). My profile is in ~/library/MobileDevice/Provisioning Profiles My certificate is in Keychain Access In Xcode I have have the Project Info showing the Entitlements correctly. The Code Signing Identity matches what's in Keychain. I've set the Target Info to be the same as Project Info. Have I done something inconsistently?

  On my website I want the user to have the ability to login/logout from any page. When the user select login button a modal dialog will be present to the user for him to enter in his credentials. Since login will be on every page, I thought I would create a partial view for the login and add it to the layout page. But when I did this I got the following error: Exception Details: System.InvalidOperationException: Duration must be a positive number. There are other ways to work around this that would not using partial views, but I believe this should work. So to test this, I decided to make everything simple with the following code: Created a layout page with the following code @{Html.RenderAction("_Login", "Account");} In the AccountController: public ActionResult _Login() { return PartialView("_Login"); } Partial View _Login <a id="signin">Login</a> But when I run this simple version this I still get this error: Exception Details: System.InvalidOperationException: Duration must be a positive number. • How to update data in the user information list when using FBA

  I've got to support a SharePoint web application which uses FBA with a custom membership and a custom role provider to authenticate the user against two different LDAPs. The user data are only stored in the user information lists. The SSP user profiles are not used. Now one of the users got married and therefore her surname got changed in the LDAP (the one where her information are stored). But this change doesn't get provisioned into the user information list. I wondering what option I have to provision changes of user data to the user information list. I've already tried to update the last name of the user manually, but it seems as if certain information like surname, first name are not editable in the user information list. I tried to edit them as a site administrator. So what option do I have to solve this problem? Being able to edit the information per hand would also be a solution but of course not the most preferred one.

I am using Autofac. I have been reading through the article here: http://www.lostechies.com/blogs/jimmy_bogard/archive/2009/05/11/automapper-and-ioc.aspx but I can't see how this would work with Profiles. Any ideas?   The ajax call works fine in FF. the data returned is in JSON here is an example from FF firebug - {"noProfiles": "No profiles have been created, lets start now !"} When I try to print the error in IE8 (& in compatibility modes as well), it says "parsererror". But the output seems to be valid JSON. Here is the ajax function call I'm making. The problem is, in my unit tests everything seems to load correctly, but users(:reginald).profile is always nil. What am I missing?

  Hi, I am working on a simple iPhone application and when I run my app on my machine it installs on the device, but when I try it on a Windows machine using an ad-hoc distribution profile, it shows an error: "Application couldn't be installed because a resource has been modified." I have 2 iPhones and have tested the same app; on iPhone 2G it works fine, but on the 3G it shows the error I have written above.   I have somewhat of a strange question that is not really technical, but I do hope to collect meaningful advice. I'm building a large web application, basically a photo sharing community site. As part of this site, logged-in users can go to their profile, from which they can see their own things (images, comments, votes) as well as edit their details and preferences. Users can also see profiles of others users (their images, comments, votes), but of course not edit their details. The question I have is simple but it keeps bothering me: What to call the personal links and content of a user? Should they be named "Your": Your images Your profile ... ...or "My": My images My profile ...or perhaps named, even if you're logged in: Fledder's images Fledder's profile As unimportant as it may sounds, I'm really looking for advice in this area. I'm particularly interested in any standards, why an option is preferred, and in which contexts it is preferred.

  Hey there! We have a couple of iPhones in our office. All of them have provisioning profiles installed on them. One of the phones (my bosses :S) all of a sudden won't allow me to install apps to it, complaining that a valid provisioning profile cannot be found. The profile isn't expired, and the problem is, I'm guessing, not with the XCode files, as I can install the same project to all the other phones. • Should strongly typed partial views on one page in asp.net mvc-2 have one combined view model?

  Hi guys, I have a question about asp.net mvc-2 strongly typed partial views, and view models. I was just wondering if I can (or should) have two strongly typed partial views on one page, without implementing a whole new view model for that page. For example, I have a page that displays profiles, but also has an inline form to add a quick contact. Each of these entities already has it's own view model, i.e I have a ProfileViewModel and a ContactViewModel. So my view needs two strongly typed partial views, one using an IEnumerable List of ProfileViewModels, and one using a ContactViewModel. Is it possible or desirable to avoid making a third view model, an 'IndexViewModel' for this page, which holds a list of ProfileViewModels and a ContactViewModel? Is not implementing this view model bad practice, or tidier as it results in less view models? Thanks!

• xcode build to iphone chooses old invalid provisioning profile

  I've just gone through some pain with iphone and xcode upgrades and keychain failures etc and decided to uninstall xcode completely and re-install. This fixed my keychain issues however the project I am working on appears to be linked to an old invalid provisioning profile. I've deleted the profile from "Provisioning Profiles" in organiser, and removed it from Provisioning on the Iphone section of Organiser. However when I build an go with the iphone sdk rather than simulator i get the pop up "codesign wants to sign using key "OldKey" in your keychain". It appears the actual app is associated with the old key and I can't seem to find how to point it to the new valid one. Crazy thing is at some point I managed to get it to work and install but the application crashed and won't open. I've not managed to get it to install again. Any ideas?

• How do I prevent duplicate entrys to mySQL?

  On my site, I have a form that users fill out to become a member. They fill out name, bday, email, etc. Then when they click submit, the data gets into mySQL. But sometimes when a user clicks submit many times or refreshes the page, the data gets inputted to the database more than once. How can I prevent this? Is there a code I can use to only let one set of data get into the database? This is also a problem in my comment section. I allow uses to put comments on people's profiles. But when they abuse the refresh button or submit button, I get like 10 of the same comments. Thanks.

  I have been working on it for quite a while, but still can't figure out what's wrong with my code. Each Service has multiple profiles, but each profile only has one Service. Service { Long service_id; // primary key ... getter/setter } Profile { Long profile_id; // primary key Long service_id; // foreign key ... getter and setter } in Profile.hbm.xml. I add < many-to-one name="service_id" class="com.mot.diva.dto.Service" column="SERVICE_ID" cascade="save-update"> < /many-to-one> Is it the correct way to map it?
