• Robust C# Plugin System

  I am writing a tool which communicates with more than one version control system, either subversion or clearcase, and has various utilities which can be plugged into it. I though of using MEF to load the version control providers, and utiilities, both of which have interfaces definied for them. I've started to use MEF for this. But if loading any plugin fails (on half my clients machines, the ClearCase COM bindings won't be present, so loading will fail, on the other half SVN won't be installed, so the SVN plugin won't load) though, MEF throws an exception and no plugin works; I was hoping that the rest of the plugins would load. [ImportMany(AllowRecomposition = true)] public IEnumerable<IVersionControl> RegisteredProviders { get; private set; } Instead, if any providers fail to construct themselves, then RegisteredProviders is null. Is there a simple way of configuring MEF to achieve this (reporting exceptions but loading other instances), or do I have to change the interface to delay their intialisation failure until after MEF has instantiated the objects?

I generate the combo here from the result of my database .Columns.Add(myCombo) End With End Sub Now when i want to get the data that is set in this column, there is no problem. But if I want to set the data programmatically, there arises problem. How can I solve the problem? If you want more info, please let me know.

• Is there a way to declare a variable that implements multiple interfaces in .Net?

  Similar to this Java question. I would like to specify that a variable implements multiple interfaces. For instance private {IFirstInterface, ISecondInterface} _foo; public void SetFoo({IFirstInterface, ISecondInterface} value) { _foo = value; } Requirements: I don't have the ability to add an interface to most type that would be passed in to Foo. So I can't create a third interface that inherits from IFirstInterface and ISecondInterface. I would like to avoid making the containing class generic if possible because the type of Foo doesn't have much to do with the class and the user isn't likely to know it at compile time. I need to use foo to access methods in both interfaces at a later time. I would like to do this in a compiler safe way, i.e. no trying to cast to the interface just before trying to use it. If foo does not implement both interfaces quite a bit of functionality won't work properly. Is this possible?

Thread th = new Thread(new ThreadStart(PerformAction)); th.IsBackground = true; th.Start(); The thread performs some stuff and sets the visibility to true private void PerformAction() { /* . .// some actions. */ checkBoxLaunch.Visible = true; } But after the thread finishes it's task, the check box is not visible to me.. :( What am I missing??

• CommandManager Executed Events don't fire for custom ICommands

  The WPF CommandManager allows you to do the following (pseudo-ish-code): <Button Name="SomeButton" Command="{Binding Path=ViewModelCommand}"/> And in the code-behind: private void InitCommandEvents() { CommandManager.AddExecutedEventHandler(this.SomeButton, SomeEventHandler); } The SomeEventHandler never gets called. To me this didn't seem like something very wrong to try and do, but if you consider what happens inside CommandManager.AddExecutedEventHandler, it makes sense why it doesn't. Add to that the fact that the documentation clearly states that the CommandManager only works with RoutedCommands. Nonetheless, this had me very frustrated for a while and led me to this question: What would you suggest is the best workaround for the fact that the CommandManager does not support custom ICommands? Especially if you want to add behavior around the execution of a command? For now, I fire the command manually in code behind from the button click event.

• Java EE and GlassFish Server Roadmap Update

  2013 has been a stellar year for both the Java EE and GlassFish Server communities. On June 12, Oracle and its partners announced the release of Java EE 7, which delivers on three major themes – HTML5, developer productivity, and meeting enterprise demands. The online event attracted over 10,000 views in the first two days! During the online event, Oracle also announced the availability of GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 4, the world's first Java EE 7 compatible application server. The primary role of GlassFish Server Open Source Edition has been, and continues to be, driving adoption of the latest release of the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition. Oracle also announced the Java EE 7 SDK, which bundles GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 4, as a Java EE 7 learning aid. Last, Oracle publicly announced the Java EE 7 reference implementation based on GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 4. Java EE is a popular platform, as evidenced by the 20+ Java EE 6 compatible implementations available to choose from. After the launch of Java EE 7 and GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 4, we began planning the Java EE 8 roadmap, which was covered during the JavaOne Strategy Keynote. To summarize, there is a lot of interest in improving on HTML5 support, Cloud, and investigating NoSQL support. We received a lot of great feedback from the community and customers on what they would like to see in Java EE 8. As we approached JavaOne 2013, we started planning the GlassFish Server roadmap. What we announced at JavaOne was that GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 4.1 is scheduled for 2014. Here is an update to that roadmap. GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 4.1 is scheduled for 2014 We are planning updates as needed to GlassFish Server Open Source Edition, which is commercially unsupported As we head towards Java EE 8: The trunk will eventually transition to GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 5 as a Java EE 8 implementation The Java EE 8 Reference Implementation will be derived from GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 5. This replicates what has been done in past Java EE and GlassFish Server releases. Oracle will no longer release future major releases of Oracle GlassFish Server with commercial support – specifically Oracle GlassFish Server 4.x with commercial Java EE 7 support will not be released. Commercial Java EE 7 support will be provided from WebLogic Server. Oracle GlassFish Server will not be releasing a 4.x commercial version Expanding on that last bullet, new and existing Oracle GlassFish Server 2.1.x and 3.1.x commercial customers will continue to be supported according to the Oracle Lifetime Support Policy. Oracle recommends that existing commercial Oracle GlassFish Server customers begin planning to move to Oracle WebLogic Server, which is a natural technical and license migration path forward: Applications developed to Java EE standards can be deployed to both GlassFish Server and Oracle WebLogic Server GlassFish Server and Oracle WebLogic Server have implementation-specific deployment descriptor interoperability (here and here). GlassFish Server 3.x and Oracle WebLogic Server share quite a bit of code, so there are quite a bit of configuration and (extended) feature similarities. Shared code includes JPA, JAX-RS, WebSockets (pre JSR 356 in both cases), CDI, Bean Validation, JAX-WS, JAXB, and WS-AT. Both Oracle GlassFish Server 3.x and Oracle WebLogic Server 12c support Oracle Access Manager, Oracle Coherence, Oracle Directory Server, Oracle Virtual Directory, Oracle Database, Oracle Enterprise Manager and are entitled to support for the underlying Oracle JDK. To summarize, Oracle is committed to the future of Java EE.  Java EE 7 has been released and planning for Java EE 8 has begun. GlassFish Server Open Source Edition continues to be the strategic foundation for Java EE reference implementation going forward. And for developers, updates will be delivered as needed to continue to deliver a great developer experience for GlassFish Server Open Source Edition. We are planning for GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 5 as the foundation for the Java EE 8 reference implementation, as well as bundling GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 5 in a Java EE 8 SDK, which is the most popular distribution of GlassFish.   Well i need some help here i don't know how to solve this problem. the function of the attribute is to determine if the function can be run... So what i need is the following: The consumer of the attribute should be able to determine if it can be executed. The owner of the attribute should be able to tell the consumer that now it can/can't be executed (like a event). It must have a simple syntax. This is what i have so far but it only implements point 1, 3. • Restoring database with SMO - Reporting progress problems

  I'm using the below to restore a database in VB.NET. This works but causes the interface to lockup if the user clicks anything.   Hi, I created an GWT project in eclipse. Now I tried to implement openId with using the openid4java library. I imported the .jar files via properties--java build path: openid4java-0.9.5.jar lib/*.jar In addition I copied the .jar files into the war/WEB-INF/lib directory. The problem at hand comes up when I call the authenticate() method. Then I get a: HTTP ERROR 500 Problem accessing /openid/openid. When this program run, SVN displays svnlook exited with error 0xC0000135. Current output is: empty I looked up the error 0xC0000135 and it mean App failed to initialize properly although it wasn't specific to svnhook. Why is svnlook help not returning anything? Does it fail when executed through another process?

• JavaFX FXML communication between Application and Controller classes

  I am trying to get and destroy an external process I've created via ProcessBuilder in my FXML application close, but it's not working. This is based on the helpful advice Sergey Grinev gave me here. I have tried running with/without the "// myController.setApp(this);" and with "// super.stop();" at top of subclass and at bottom (see commented out/in for that line in MyApp), but no combination works. This probably isn't related to FXML or JavaFX, though I imagine this is a common pattern for developing apps on JavaFX. I suppose I'm asking for a Java best practice for closing dependent processes in a UI-based app like this one (in this case: FXML / JavaFX based), where there is a controller class and an application class. Can you explain what I'm doing wrong? Or better: advise what I should be doing instead? Thanks.   Hi all, In C++ an interface can be implemented by a class with all its methods pure virtual: class IFoo { public: virtual void method() = 0; }; Now I want to implement this interface by a hierarchy of classes: class FooBase : public IFoo // implement interface IFoo { public: void method(); // calls methodImpl; private: virtual void methodImpl(); }; For the class hierarchy I would like to use the non-virtual interface (NVI) idiom, to deny derived classes the possibility of overriding the common behavior implemented in FooBase::method(), but it seems that all derived classes have the opportunity to override the FooBase::method() because it is declared in the interface class. Is my observation correct? And if so are there other options to both use interface classes and the NVI idiom?
