  • SEO when loading items through AJAX

    Let's say I have standard scenario of commerce site that has categories on the left and items on the right. What I would like to do is that when user clicks on category it will pass it's ID to js, js will get all items from API by using that id and load them very prettily to my content. It looks all cool and pro but what is the situation from SEO point of view? AFAIK google bot enters my site, sees I have span with categories and that's all?

  • Google Analytics Goal tracking external referrals

    I have goal tracking setup on my site for a target url. It works insofar as it tracks all pageviews on my site leading up the goal. But it doesn't appear to be tracking the external referrer that the user came from initially, marking it as (entrance) and the step before that (not set). Is this standard behaviour for goals not to record external referrer and how can I add referrer tracking to my goal?

    Following the recent release by Microsoft of TypeScript I was wondering if this is something that should be considered for a experienced WinForm and XAML developer looking to get into more web development. From reviewing a number of sites and videos online it appears that the type system for TypeScript makes more sense to me as a thick client developer than the dynamic type system in Javascript. I understand that Typescript compiles down to JavaScript but it appears that the learning curve is shallower due to the current tooling provided by Microsoft. What are your thoughts?

  • SharePoint 2010 Hosting :: Sending SMS Alerts in SharePoint 2010 Over Office Mobile Service Protocol (OMS)

    In this post, I want to share the exciting news of SharePoint's 2010 new feature. Finally it's possible to send SMS directly from SharePoint to mobile phones. The advantages of sending SMS instead of Email messages are obvious: SMS alerts or reminders that are received on mobile phones are more preferred than Email messages that can be lost in the mass of spam. The interface is standard as it's very similar to previous versions of the product. Adjustments are easy to do, simply enter the address of the Office Mobile Service (OMS) web-service which you want to use for sending messages, then specify the connection parameters. Further details on Office Mobile Service is available below. The Test Service button checks if OMS web-service is accessible using provided URL (user name and password are not verified). This check is needed because OMS web-service URL depends on the mobile operator and country. It's now possible to select the method of sending alerts in alerts settings. Email option is selected by default. Alerts delivery method is displayed in the list of existing alerts. Office Mobile Service (OMS) SharePoint 2010 uses exterior servers similar to SMTP servers for sending SMS alerts. However, Microsoft started development and promotion of their own protocol instead of using existing ones. That is how Office Mobile Service (OMS) appeared. This open protocol enables clients to send text and multimedia messages (mobile messages) remotely to the server which processes these messages and delivers them to mobile phones.  Typical scenario of utilizing this protocol is data transfer between computer application and mobile phone. The recipient can answer messages and the server in return will deliver the answer by SMTP protocol, i.e. by email.  Key quality of this protocol is that it's built on base of HTPP(S) and SOAP protocols.     This means that in fact SMS gateway must support typified web-service. What do you get from web-service? What you get is the ability to send SMS from any platform you want.  The protocol is being developed at the moment and version 0.2 from 08/28/2009 was available when the article was published.  For promotion of their protocol and simplifying server search, Microsoft represented web-service http://messaging.office.microsoft.com/HostingProviders.aspx that helps to receive the list of providers, which supports OMS protocol and message delivery to your operator.  All you need to do is decide which provider to use, complete the agreement, then adjust the SharePoint connection parameters and start working.  Some providers advertise themselves not only for clients but for mobile operators as well.   • Accessing SSRS Report Manager on Windows 7 and Windows 2008 Server

      Here is a problem I was emailed last night   Problem   SSRS 2008 on Windows 7 or Windows 2008 Server is configured with a user account that is a member of the administrator's group that cannot access report Manager without running IE as Administrator and adding  the SSRS server into trusted sites. (The Builtin administrators account is by default made a member of the System Administrator and Content Manager SSRS roles).   As a result the OS limits the use of using elevated permissions by removing the administrator permissions when accessing applications such as SSRS     Resolution - Two options   Continue to run IE as administrator, you must still add the report server site to trusted sites Add the site to trusted sites and manually add the user to the system administrator and content manager role Open a browser window with Run as administrator permissions. From the Start menu, click All Programs, right-click Internet Explorer, and select Run as administrator. Click Allow to continue. In the URL address, enter the Report Manager URL. Click Tools. Click Internet Options. Click Security. Click Trusted Sites. Click Sites. Add http://<your-server-name>. Clear the check box Require server certification (https:) for all sites in this zone if you are not using HTTPS for the default site. Click Add. Click OK. In Report Manager, on the Home page, click Folder Settings. In the Folder Settings page, click Security. Click New Role Assignment. Type your Windows user account in this format: <domain>\<user>. Select Content Manager. Click OK. Click Site Settings in the upper corner of the Home page. Click security. Click New Role Assignment. Type your Windows user account in this format: <domain>\<user>. Select System Administrator. Click OK. Close Report Manager. However when we search on google or bing or yahoo using the keyword Vialogues, We are given results of the keyword dialogues and this message “showing results for dialogues, search instead for vialogues”. I am wondering if it's possible to list the site without the search engine suggesting “showing results for dialogues, search instead for vialogues”?

You can download them to your local machine or eBook reader and read them. This is a great start as many important subjects are now covered and converted into an eBook. I personally read through a few of the books and found they are very comprehensive and and detailed. The goal is not to cover complete technology in a single book but rather pick a single topic and discuss it in detail.   • Getting Started with Kinect for Windows.

    Hello folks,      Recently I got involved in a project for building a demo application for one of our customers with Kinect for Windows. Yes, something similar what Tom Cruise did in the movie Minority Report. Waving arms, moving stuff around, swipes, speech recognition, manipulating computer screens without even touching it. Pretty cool!!! The idea in the movie showed us how technology would be after 50 years from that day.   Minority Report Movie clip.           Well, that 50 years of time frame got squeezed and recently on Feb 1st 2012, Microsoft released the official Kinect for Windows SDK. That’s just 10 years from the movie release. Although, the product is in it early stages but with developer creativity and continuously improving hardware, those features shown in the movie are not very far away from becoming a reality. Soon after releasing the SDK, Microsoft again announced in March the release of its new Kinect for Windows SDK version 1.5 which is coming out in sometime May. More history about Kinect. Anyways, so for a newbie with Kinect, where would you start. Here is what I would suggest you can do. Watch the Kinect for Windows Quick start Series by Den Fernandez. Download the Kinect for Windows SDK and start playing around with the demos in it. It also comes with some basic Kinect documentation. Coding4Fun Kinect Projects | Lot many more videos and open sources projects information. Kinect for Windows Session at Techdays NL demo by Jesus Rodriguez. Book: Beginning Kinect Programming with the Microsoft Kinect SDK.  | I did go through few of the chapters in this book and based on that, it does talk deeply about core Kinect concepts but in very easy to understand way. I would definitely suggest this book for any Kinect developers. I liked the way it explained the Gestures recognition in Chapter 6. Buy your Kinect device from either Amazon or NewEgg. You will get it cheaper then buying it from Microsoft Store. Personally, I love Newegg.com as I never had any order related or shipping issues with them. I always hate developing UI application but well, you would need to get your hands dirty with WPF too in order to work with Kinect. So get started with WPF concepts too. I will keep adding stuff to the list once I come across them but so far the above list would definitely get you started building your first Kinect apps. Till then Happy Kinecting…!!!!!   • How long does it take for Google to re-index pages or update the link titles?

    On one of our classified sites, when doing site:[mysite.com] in Google, the link text is simply [product name] - [mysite.com], where as it should read [product name] classifieds for sale in... I suspect that the site map may have been submitted when we just had [product name], and updated the page titles later. However, it has been a couple of weeks that I have confirmed the longer page titles, and still they appear shortened in organic results. How can I get this looking right in Google's organic results?
