  I have a mybook live western digital 1TB hard disk connected to fritzbox 7270 router in office. When I am in the office, I can mount this drive to ubuntu since I have added to the etc/fstab file: //192.168.178.30/user /home/user/DISK cifs auto,iocharset=utf8,user=user%password 0 0 Is there a similar, easy & safe way, to do the same when I am out of the office using the static IP of the fritzbox router? I have already added tcp port forwarding in the router for ports 8080 (to 80 of the disk) and 8443 (to 443 of the disk). Thank you in advance

  I'm writing an application in which - Many users can subsribe to posts made by another users. So for a single publisher there can be many subscribers. When a message is posted by an user X, all users who have subscribed to messages of User X will be sent an email. How to achieve this ? I'm thinking of using publish-subscribe pattern. And then I came through JMS. Which is the best JMS implementation to use according to your experience ? Or else what else solution do you propose to the given problem ? Shall I go for a straight-forward solution ?: User x posts a message, I find all users (from database) who subscribe to user x and then for every user, I call the sendEmail() method. [EDIT] My intention here is not to send-emails. I'm really sorry if it wasn't clear. I also have to send kind of system-notifications apart from Email to all subscribers. • OAuth2 vs Public API

  My understanding of OAuth (2.0) is that its a software stack and protocol to allow 2+ web apps to share information about a single end user. User A is a member of Site B and Site C; Site B wants to fetch some data from Site C about User A, and this is where OAuth steps in. So first off, if this assessment is incorrect, please begin by clarifying this for me and correcting me! Assuming I'm on the right track, then I guess I'm not seeing the need for OAuth to begin with (!). I'm sure I'm just not seeing the "forest through the trees" here, but the way I see it, couldn't Site C just expose a public API that Site B could use to fetch the same data (sans OAuth)? If Site C required user credentials to access the data, could this public API just use HTTPS for secure transport and require username/password as a part of each API call? Again, I'm sure I'm missing something, but I'm just not understanding why I would need OAuth when a secure, public API written and exposed by Site C seems more than capable of delivering what Site B needs regarding User A. In general, I'm looking for a set of guidelines to go by when deciding to choose between using OAuth for my web apps or just writing my own web service ( exposing public API). Thanks in advance!

• Data Synchronization in mobile apps - multiple devices, multiple users

  I'm looking into building my first mobile app. One of the core features of the application is that multiple devices/users will have access to the same data -- and all of them will have CRUD rights. I believe the architecture should involve a central server where all the data is stored. The devices will use an API to interact with the server to perform its data operations (e.g. adding a record, editing a record, deleting a record). I imagine a scenario where synchronizing the data will become a problem. Assume the application should work when it is not connected to the Internet, and thus cannot communicate with this central server. So: User A is offline and edits record #100 User B is offline and edits record #100 User C is offline and deletes record #100 User C goes online (presumably, record #100 should get deleted on the server) User A and B goes online, but the records they edited no longer exist All sorts of scenarios similar to the above can come up. How is this generally handled? I plan to use MySQL, but am wondering if it's not appropriate for such a problem.

• Create room mailbox in Exchange 2007 - cannot view calendar

  I'm an application developer and I'm trying to play around with Exchange in order to integrate a room booking system with it. I've created a room mailbox and have set it so that it auto-accepts appointment requests. When creating an appointment as a standard user I can add the room as a resource and its availability will display. However, I can add it as a shared calendar to Outlook 2003 (Unable to display the folder. The Calendar folder could not be found) nor can I return the calendar folder using Exchange Web Services (again, could not find the folder). I've also created an appointment via Exchange Web Services with a room as a resource. The resource was successfully booked (as confirmed when opening it as the room's delegate) but it does not appear on the meeting as viewed by any of the attendees. Is there anything further I need to do in order to share this calendar? How do most organisations set up their Exchange with regards to rooms?

Is IE9 a modern browser? well Are you thing that they make something bettter then thing another that what Firefox and chrome do whenever Microsoft do this. that's point that Microsoft always blast IE because they make version upon version not upon update like Firefox make 3.6.14 after 3.6.13 and chrome give update soon as possible but IE not come soon. they will thing for making 10 instead of giving update on 9. well what they tell us new. they make fool public everytime i believe they make fool public as same as today they maked for version 9 they show developer tool in 9 have three new tabs or pael are this enough. whenever  in chrome and firefox their is many plugin who make development easier IE still have a developer tool who not have enough power like Firebug in Firefox. they show performance but forget luna user [window xp] and their IE never runs on other plateform but chrome and firefox can. no customization in IE whenever chrome and firefox have uncountable plugin and addons. show features now in IE who already implemented in firefox very early. well their is no rule that static goes right every time not sure that IE and Firefox both are right in their language. their is no one predict what thing goes better in future. so well keep a thing in mind never wasted time and also thing to make task easier even you need to use sollution opensource or closesoure inside or outside MS does not matter. well everyone tell you much more then they do even IE and some other. they never tell you this thing not in IE but in another can be found they never tell you use other whenever you need a thing and never can be found in their software. you need to more beware of IE because they make them commorcial not really for public if really then why they stop wxp user to use them as well firefox and chrome never force. because they need a thing that force more then more copy of windows sale. so they thing to add a thing in window 8. the IE9 they thing to make before that they thing to make  this for windows 8. they always force user to purchase this for this. this for this. and this trick sell their software. well outside MS Mozilla and Chrome all behave better with user and their feedback. they respect user their privacy and feedback. if you not believe that how much problem you found in IE and they got solved soon as in chrome and firefox bug kill soon. because IE not opensource we need to  boycutt them secondly their is no customization then they make user task easier even with twitter and facebook.

  In my web application i have one page call it mypage.html When user clicks some link in mypage a modal window will be opened and he will see some html page. (I do this by Colorbox or Twitter Bootstrap now) But when user clicked a button in modal window, an Ajax request will be sent to my server. If request is successfull he will see some new modal window, else user will see another modal window. After all steps user will close modal window and tasks will be finished. Which jquery modal window plugin is suitable for this type of usage?

  Imagine I have a collection of object instances which represent activities for a user to undertake. Dependent on user attributes, I have to randomly select instances to present activities to the user. For some users, I need to present more activities to them than there are available activities in which case, I want to use the following algorithm. If all available activities have already been presented to the user, then re-select a "used" activity, selecting the earliest presented activity ordered by frequency of use. In other words, try to reduce repetition and where repetition is unavoidable, use the instances which have been repeated less often and were presented furthest back in time. Before I go on to code that algorithm, I wondered if there is some existing pattern I can re-use? [EDIT] "Furthest back in time" is not relevant as I will pass the algorithm an ordered collection of used instances where the first entry is the first presented.

• Have Windows Automatically Login Without Entering Your Password

  If you are like me and don't want to have to enter your password each time Windows loads, you can have Windows start up without prompting you to enter a user name or password.  The simple (and BAD) way to do this is to simply not have a password on your user account, but that’s a big security risk and will allow people to easily remote desktop into your computer. So, first set a password on your windows account if you don’t already have one.  Then select Run... from the start menu (or use Windows Key + R to open the Run window) and type control userpasswords2, which will open the user accounts application.   On the Users tab, clear the box for Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer, and click on OK. An Automatically Log On dialog box will appear; enter the user name and password for the account you want to use to automatically log into Windows.  That's it.    You may also want to make sure your screen saver is not set to prompt you for a password when it exits either. Now your computer is secure without getting in your way.

  You wrote in a reply this Blockquote The problem is that sftp runs as the user's id -- first, the sftp client ssh's into the target host as the given user, then runs sftp-server. Since sftp-server is running as a regular user, it has no way to "give away" a file (change owner of a file). However, if you are able to use scp, and assign a key pair to each user, you can get around this. This involves adding a user's key to root's ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file, with a "command=" parameter to force it to run a script that sanitizes and alters the arguments of the server-side scp program. I've used this technique before to set up an anonymous scp dropbox that allowed anyone to submit a file, and ensure that no one could retrieve submitted files and also prevent overwrites. If you are open to this technique, let me know and I'll update this post with a quick recipe. We are interested in this scp quick recipe for our community services file sharing.   I have website that crawls data from many third party services when user browse to webpage. This can be really slow because I hit third party server and process returned data before showing it to user. I am hosting website on Azure (shared mode). I am thinking to improve my implementation. Here is what I am thinking... Run a service that crawls data from third party services, process it and then store it in database. when user browse to my site, my site pulls data from database and display them to user. But above solution is not clear to me. Should I have normal service or wcf service? If wcf service then should website talk to database or wcf service (that can access data from database)? If normal service then how can I deploy on Azure?

• Can not copy files from Windows 2003 server over network

  It seemed quite strange. I have a share folder with full read/write permission on my Windows 2003 server. With a XP client, I can create a new folder on the share folder, and I can copy files to it normally, but I can not copy these files back to my client PC. I tried use ftp,and webdav to get the files from server. None of them worked. Is the issue related with NETWORK SERVICE? Thanks for your help.

• htaccess and htpasswd trouble

  This is the first time that I have ever tried working with .htpasswd and .htaccess files, so please point out my childish works. I have my apache document root set to /www/ on my debian server. Inside it, there's a folder named Logs/ which I want to restrict access using a htpasswd. I created my htpasswd file using the shell's htpasswd command. And this is the result: > user:<encoded password here> > hjp:<encoded password here> > hjpotter92:<encoded password here> I put this file named .htaccess inside /www/. The Logs/ has following htaccess file in it: > AuthName "Restricted Area" > AuthType Basic > AuthUserFile /www/.htpasswd > AuthGroupFile /dev/null > require valid-user This was again created using an online tool(I forgot its name/link, and can't search the browser-history now). The problem, as it might've already struck you is that I am experiencing no change on my Logs folder access. The folder is still accessible to everyone. I am running apache as root user(if that matters/helps). Please help/guide me. I've tried reading some htaccess guides and have followed some of older SO questions, but still haven't figured out a way to restrict access to Logs folder with a password.

• Server App - Users

  I'm using mac OSX lion server, and I'm trying to setup a user account with access to different services. I had to create the user in Prefs users and groups, because it wouldn't work in the Server app. In the server app, it kept saying "This operation couldn't be completed". I managed to create the user in the system prefs, but now I'm back in the server app and cannot update the services the user has access to. The checkboxes are all there for e.g. Address book, file sharing etc, but I can't deselect any of them... Any ideas on why I can't change a user's access to services?

  I'm trying to make my sudoers file allow a user to adjust the backlight without having to enter in the password. This is what I have: # User alias specification Cmnd_Alias ADJBL = /usr/bin/su -c "echo 150 >/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness" # For our user.. ouruser HOME=(root) NOPASSWD:ADJBL .. but it doesn't seem to be working, I still get prompted for the password when I try and run that command with sudo. Apparently there is something I'm missing here, any ideas?

  I have a general coding standard question. Is it bad practice to initialize and create an object in multiple methods depending on the outcome of a users choice. So for example if the user quits a poker game, create the poker hand with the cards the user has received, even if < 5, and if the user played till the end create object to show completed hand to show outcome of the game. The key is that the object will only be created once in actuality, there are just different paths and parameters is will receive depending on if the user folded, or played on to the showdown.

• Why are some web clients requesting a page named "cache"?

  We see errors like this in the apache error log: [Thu May 17 14:32:35 2012] [error] [client 192.168.1.1] File does not exist: /home/www-data/mywebsite.com/r/cache, referer: http://www.mywebsite.com/r/1010 It is strange because: There is no reference in the code/url about a folder/file "cache". The folder/file "cache" does not exist The client is randomly trying to access a "cache" folder everywhere on the website. It is always trying to access the folder/file "cache" following this pattern: Pattern: /level1/.../levelwhatever/filename (referer) /level1/.../levelwhatever/cache We run a LAMP (Debian stable: PHP 5.3.3-7+squeeze9. We also use APC 3.1.3p1). We use Google Analytics and AdSense. We do not know how to reproduce the problem. Note: I replaced the user's IP in the code for privacy.

• Expanding iSCSI LUNs (NTFS)

  I have a 4TB iSCSI LUN that formated as NTFS in Windows 2008. I've shared this formated volume as a folder over SMB. When the capacity of this volume is not enough, I have to add more iSCSI LUNs, but the end-users must see only the folder that I've shared before. So, when I expand the NTFS volume that is currently 4TB, with more iSCSI LUNS(for example 2 more 4TB LUN), if one of the luns is failed, or missing, will all of my data in the folder be lost? I imagine that the expanding ntfs volume is like RAID 0(striped). if it is like RAID 0, then all my data will be lost when one of the luns is failed, or missing. In brief, there are two questions in here: 1- What will be happened, if one of the luns is missing in an expanded ntfs volume? 2- Is there another way to merge all of iscsi luns as only a folder, in that way the users don't see any extra folder even if I add extra iscsi luns to the file server.(I don't mention about DFS) Regards.

  Sky doesn't seem to understand what their own errors mean, so I cobbled together an understanding from some other posts and managed to get it working.When you see the error [t6013-c1501] instead of your TV programme in Sky Go, it seems to mean:'You registered a device, but then changed the hardware, so now I'm confused!'In other words, the Digital rights management (DRM) used between Sky Go and Silverlight stored an old fingerprint of your PC, but rather than recognising this and allowing you to remove the device, it just disappears from the 'Manage Devices' page.DISCLAIMER: Perform the following steps at your own risk. It worked for me, but I didn't care if it broke stuff. If you care....don't do it!So, to fix this I did the following:1. Login to Sky Go and click 'Watch live TV' from the home page. It will attempt to show Sky News and fail with the error [t6013-c1501].2. Right click on the error and you should see the Menu option 'Silverlight'. Select this and a dialog should appear. Click the 'Application Storage' tab and delete any entry that relates to sky go. Clcik OK to close the dialog.3. Open explorer and navigate to the folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\PlayReady4. Rename the file mspr.hds to mspr.hds.OLD5. Go back to the browser and click F5. You may need to logout/login (not sure).Note: Don't rename/delete the folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\PlayReady or you will get the error [t6000-c1501]. • What credentials should I use to access a Windows share?

  i, I have installed Samba and CIFS and all that, followed a bunch of tutorials, but still I can't access a share in the separate Windows 7 machine. Before I could access a share in Ubuntu from Windows, but although now I can't for whatever reason; the error of the attempt to mount the Windows share is the same: 13, asking for credentials (the computer with Windows is off now, but I can add the exact error message later). In /etc/fstab I have: # ... (help info) ... # <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass> # ... (mounting points that don't matter for the question) ... //192.168.1.2/C\:/Users/Public/Documents /srv/Z\:/ cifs user=guest,password=,uid=1000,iocharset=utf8 0 0 I also tried options such as username=guest,uid=1000,iocharset=utf8 and guest,uid=1000,iocharset=utf8, which, of course, don't work. What user am I supposed to use? (user=user; username=user; my credentials in the Windows and Ubuntu machines do not work, at least with the syntax I tried - similar to this). Even if this worked it's not actually what I want. I wanted to setup an authentication for any one trying to access the drive (it's currently 777, for the Linux share as well) and put a limit/quota on the share's use (as I see Z:on Windows, it allows for the entire C:drive to be filled). Thank you in advance. I'd be glad if you suggested a way to do this even without the last paragraph.

  I want to grant users access to the nagios 3 core frontend by using an active directory group ("NagiosWebfrontend" in the code below). I got the hint, that I am missing a contact in nagios configuration which is equal to my login, but creating one with the same name as the domain user had no effect on this issue. However, it would be great to find a solution without manually editing nagios.conf for every new user, so the admins could grant access to nagios by just putting the user to "NagiosWebfrontend" group. What would be the best way to solve it?
