• Websphere/Oracle 11 - much more Heap Usage than with Oracle 10

  Hi all, while testing our application with Oracle 11 (previously, we had Oracle 10), we saw that our server uses much more heap space. It seems as it has something to do with T4CConnection; there are 500 objects of T4CConnection allocated. Someone told me, that Oracle 11 is using SoftReferences to keep the connection pool; but we don't need that. Is that correct? Could that be the problem for the increased heap space? If yes - how can we avoid connection pooling? Thanks a lot!!

• Managing test data for Junit tests.

  Hi, We are facing one problem in managing test data(xmls which is used to create mock objects). The data which we have currently has been evolved over a long period of time. Each time we add a new functionality or test case we add new data to test that functionality. Now, the problem is when the business requirement changes the format( like length or format of a variable) or any change which the test data doesn't support , we need to change the entire test data which is 100s of MBs in size. Could anyone suggest a better method or process to overcome this problem? Any suggestion would be appreciated.

• I want to make my own Malloc

  I want to make my own malloc/free so I can make a precise copying allocator. Any gurus have any tips and suggestions? I have a few questions for now: Should I just malloc large chunks of memory, and then distribute from that so I don't have to call the system calls? How are copying collectors usually done? I would imagine that this part is a bit complicated to do efficiently. My naive implementation would just malloc a block the size of the remaining objects which would require 2x the space.

  Hi friends, i am building one app almost similar to contact management system...in which i have a detail view .. on pressing one of the table cells, a new view will be shown were the user can enter the new values and on pressing the save button the values will be updated in the database. On going back to the detail view the user should be able to see the updated values in the table cells.. or how can i update the values in detail view from another view...? i came to know that this can be acheived through Appdelegate objects ... but i couldnt understand wat is it or how it is done.... may be bcuz i am new to iPhone apps development... • Any way to not break on certain errors in Visual Studio 2010?

  I'm working on a VS2010 project where I'm using DataAnnotations on my objects to handle validation. However, this is sort of a pain in the butt while trying to do interactive debugging because it keeps pausing VS.Net on validation errors. Obviously, I want to break on some errors, but not these particular types. Am I out of luck and I just need to turn on and off my Break on All Errors setting? Or is there some way to tell VS to just ignore these when they happen? (these are errors generated via Validator.ValidateProperty calls.) Thanks

• Django store regular expression in DB which then gets evaluated on page

  Hi, I want to store a number of url patterns in my django model which a user can provide parameters to which will create a url. For example I might store these 3 urls in my db where %s is the variable parameter provided by the user: www.thisissomewebsite.com?param=%s www.anotherurl/%s/ www.lastexample.co.uk?param1=%s&fixedparam=2 As you can see from these examples the parameter can appear anywhere in the string and not in a fixed position. I have 2 models, one holds the urls and one holds the variables: class URLPatterns(models.Model): pattern = models.CharField(max_length=255) class URLVariables(models.Model): pattern = models.ForeignKey(URLPatterns) param = models.CharField(max_length=255) What would be the best way to generate these urls by replacing the %s with the variable in the database. would it just be a simple replace on the string e.g: urlvariable = URLVariable.objects.get(pk=1) pattern = url.pattern url = pattern.replace("%s", urlvariable.param) or is there a better way? • Lambda "if" statement?

  I have 2 objects, both of which I want to convert to dictionarys. I use toDictionary<(). The lambda expression for one object to get the key is (i = i.name). For the other, it's (i = i.inner.name). In the second one, i.name doesn't exist. i.inner.name ALWAYS exists if i.name doesn't. Is there a lambda expression I can use to combine these two? Basically to read as: "if i.name exists then set id to i.name, else set id to i.inner.name". Many thanks.

Boxing it seems to work, but I was hoping to see if I could find a more intelligent approach to it, since the Collection will contain other types of objects that also inherit from Base.

  I'm coding in java and I need to create a function that returns the number of Data objects that are currently in an ArrayList. At the moment I have this: int count = 0; for (int i = 0; i < data.length; i++) { if (data[i] != null) { count ++; } } return count; But the problem is that an array list that includes null data is acceptable, and I have to count their null data towards this counter. How do I include the null data that's in the middle of this array, and not the null data that's not supposed to be counted for? For example, I have some tester code that adds (8),null,null,(23),(25) to the array, and this function should return 5 when the initial array size is 10. Thank you so much

Also,I have to modify the representation of a List and alter whatever methods are necessary to make insert_back run in constant time: O(1). This new operation should have the signature: void List::insert_back( const Object& data ); Also, isIncreasing, For example, for a list containing head-() (11) (8) (15) (3), isIncreasing() should return false.   This is working fine, but I'm looking for any feedback on how to do it better. Right now I think it's better than nested loops, but it starts to get Perl-one-linerish when you have a generator in a list comprehension. Any suggestions are welcome. day_count = (end_date - start_date).days + 1 for single_date in [d for d in (start_date + timedelta(n) for n in range(day_count)) if d <= end_date]: print strftime("%Y-%m-%d", single_date.timetuple()) Notes: I'm not actually using this to print; that's just for demo purposes. The variables start_date and end_date are datetime.date objects, because I don't need the timestamps (they're going to be used to generate a report). • Many-to-Many Relationship (with properties) in Google App Engine for Java

  I understand from the official documentation on unowned relationships that the app must use sets of Key objects on either side of the relationship. This makes perfect sense. Coming from many years of RDBM-style programming, though, I'm pretty confused about how I can model properties of that relationship itself. For example, if I have entities Category and Entry in my many-to-many relationship and would like to persist a dateAdded property, or some other data that are only relevant when both sides of the relationship are known. I suppose it would be possible to create a third class : CategoryEntry that links the two, but this seems like a kludge. What is the proposed way to model this kind of situation ?

  A portion of my program requires a "flag" retrieval, that is I am fetching a value that is either True or False, and based on this return value two things could follow. 1) The flag is true, aka "go ahead", and I retrieve data from a database. 2) The flag is false, and I want to prevent the data from being retrieved. Now, this check has to be performed before any function that would call upon the database in question. I decided to implement this check in the form of an event handler attached to GUI objects that would trigger this data inquiry. This check event handler is called first upon necessary events, and my question is: How do I stop subsequent event handlers from firing if the FIRST event handler (my flag checker) comes up FALSE?   How to simulating two client-controlled vehicles colliding (sensibly) in a typical client/server setup for a network game? I did read this eminent blog post on how to do distributed network physics in general (without traditional client prediction), but this question is specifically on how to handle collisions of owned objects. Example Say client A is 20 ms ahead of server, client B 300 ms ahead of server (counting both latency and maximum jitter). This means that when the two vehicles collide, both clients will see the other as 320 ms behind - in the opposite direction of the velocity of the other vehicle. Head-to-head on a Swedish highway means a difference of 16 meters/17.5 yards! What not to try It is virtually impossible to extrapolate the positions, since I also have very complex vehicles with joints and bodies all over, which in turn have linear and angular positions, velocities and accelerations, not to mention states from user input.

  I'm binding a GridView to a collection of objects that look like this: public class Transaction { public string PersonName { get; set; } public DateTime TransactionDate { get; set; } public MoneyCollection TransactedMoney { get; set;} } MoneyCollection simply inherits from ObservableCollection<T>, and is a collection of MyMoney type object. In my GridView, I just want to bind a column to the MoneyCollection's ToString() method. However, binding it directly to the TransactedMoney property makes every entry display the text "(Collection)", and the ToString() method is never called. I understand that it is binding to the collection's default view. So my question is - how can I make it bind to the collection in such a way that it calls the ToString() method on it? This is my first WPF project, so I know this might be a bit noobish, but pointers would be very welcome.

  I want to convert an array of Place objects to json, I've been doing it like this: var places = <%= @places.to_json.html_safe %>; The only problem is that every place in the @places array has an associated tag list that doesn't get included. I'm using the acts_as_taggable_on gem to handle tags, so to get the tag list for a place I need to say place.tag_list. What do I have to do to get the tag_list included for each place in the javascript array? I think I'll need to write my own to_json method but I don't know how. Thanks

• Program output to file in Java (and reading it again)

  I have a large main method in an IO class which creates objects from four different classes in my program (which all use one another to some extent). My main method takes all info in using a scanner, from the console window, and uses this info to call the constructors and methods in the other classes. As this is my first full program in Java I have been focussed on making the main method work via the console, without properly considering file input and output. I cannot see an easy way of making that work now. Ideally what I require is some way of writing everything I input to the console while running the main method to a file, in a format that can be read again and inputed back through the main method? I have refrained from posting the main method as it is 250+ lines long, but will post any relevant parts of it if required. Any help appreciated

• How do I change the background image of my app?

  Hello I have looked around and found some code which so called chooses an image from an array of image objects, but cant find an explanation. I would like to make my app have a background image and the user can select next and previous buttons to scroll through some full screen images, setting them as the background image as they scroll. I know how to do this in java, but cant seem to do it for this app. How or what code is linked to a next button to grab the next image in the array and reverse for the back button? Then that needs to be displayed obviously. I have used a layered architecture with a MVC style approach but cant seem to put it together with Objective-C. Would the buttons call the appropriate methods of the so called delegates, which the delegates handle fetching and returning the Images? Would the buttons use the returned images and actually handle the redrawing? I would really appreciate the help. Regards Jarryd

Quarters, specifically being: Jan 1 - Mar 31 Apr 1 - Jun 30 Jul 1 - Sep 30 Oct 1 - Dec 31 The Problem Employees will use an automated system to request paid time off, possibly occurring in the past, as well as the future. Requests should only be accepted if the employee has (or will have) that time available. For instance, if an employee only has 1 Day of Paid Time Off currently available (currently being January 20th), but is requesting 2 Days of Paid Time Off, beginning September 20th, the system should take into account that the employee would have accrued enough time off by then and allow the request. (Obviously ignoring that the employee may use up existing time before that date). I'm currently using Python, and wondering what the correct approach to something like this would be. I'm assuming that using DateTime objects, and possibly the dateutil module, would help here, but my brain isn't wrapping around this problem for some reason.

For that, i have to make some kind of a 'join' between the results of two queries (queries on the same table) , so that the final result will be the combination of the user - posesor of the account, and all his friends. My query looks like this: blog = New.objects.filter(created_by = following,created_by = request.user) By that ',' i wanted to make a 'join' -i found something like this on a doc- but this method is not correct- i'm getting an error. • Creating a JSONRepresentation of my NSDictionary messes up the order?

  Hi all, To pass data to my webservice, I create an NSDictionary with the objects and keys I need, and use JSONRepresentation to format it nicely so I can post it to my service. It all worked fine with the previous version where only 2 parameters were required. An array with listitems, and a UDID. No I also need to pass a version number because we need to provide more data for people with the application at this new version. Only problem is when I create my JSONRepresentation now, the order of things are all messed up. NSMutableDictionary *rowDict = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] initWithObjectsAndKeys:arrayDict,@"basketListV2",sharedData.udid,@"UDID",@"1.4",@"version",nil]; It prints out version first, then UDID and then basketListV2. Anyone know what I can do to maintain the order of my NSDict? I tried both NSDictionary and NSMutableDictionary (Probably doesn't have to do anything with it but for testing purposes I had to try it.) Thanks in advance. Lewion
