• Slow git clone and fetch

  I setuped gitosis on a linux server following this tutorial: http://scie.nti.st/2007/11/14/hosting-git-repositories-the-easy-and-secure-way We are using git on our windows machines with TortoiseGit and msysgit. Pushing changes to the server is pretty fast, but when we want to clone or fetch changes from the remote server, it begins really fast (800k/s) and then drop pretty fast to around 3 to 30k/s and it can take forever to update. git-pull for small update is fast, but as soon as we have to download something of more than a few MB, it is slow. We are switching from SVN to git and this is holding us back from using git full time. Thanks!

  It's not a real bug BUT for sure it is not what you would expect. I have this sample code to upload images: <?php if($type=="image/jpg" || $type=="image/jpeg" || $type=="image/pjpeg" || $type=="image/tiff" || $type=="image/gif" || $type=="image/png") { // make upload else echo "Incorect format ...."; ?> The problem is that that if I modify the extention of an image, let's say to .jpgq or even .jpg% and i try to upload it FF and Chrome will say that the file"s type is "application/octet-stream" and normaly the condition will be false BUT since IE is 'smarter' that other brow. it will say that the file is "image/pjeg and the condition will be true and the file will be uploaded and of course latter any brow. will not be able to read / view the image. It is not a bug because on msdn.microsoft.com it says that: "If the "suggested" (server-provided) MIME type is unknown (not known and not ambiguous), FindMimeFromData immediately returns this MIME type" and "If the server-provided MIME type is either known or ambiguous, the buffer is scanned in an attempt to verify or obtain a MIME type from the actual content." plus others 'inovative solutions from Microsoft'. SO my questions are: Why is IE so 'smart' and when I upload the file to server it knows the real MIME type BUT it will fail to read it from the server ? How can i work around this issue (if the file doesn't have the right extention the condition has to be false)? Is it wise to check the extention format (and not the MIME type)? is any of the above extention not recomended to use ? Should I add others?

• VERY simple C program won't compile with VC 64

Specifically, it sais "error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol printf referenced in function main". As far as I understand this, it can not link to printf, right? Obviously, I have Microsoft Visual C++ Compiler 2008 (Standard enu) x86 and x64 installed and am using the 64-bit flavor of Windows (7). What is the problem here?

• Why does my DataTemplate break the WPF designer?

  Why does the DataTemplate line break the WPF designer in Visual Studio 2008? The program compiles and runs properly. The DataTemplate is applied as it should. • cannot mount remote partition using fstab/fuse

  Using a combination of http://ubuntu-tutorials.com/2007/01/02/mount-remote-directories-securely-with-ssh-ubuntu-6061-610/ and http://www.tuxfiles.org/linuxhelp/fstab.html I figured I could mount the root of another computer to somewhere on my new laptop to make it easier to transfer files and stuff. Now, I can connect through SSH and browser the files through an ad-hoc mount - but I would like to be able to do this automatically, and so had a look at fstab. my new entry in fstab is: remote_comp:/ /var/remote_comp fuse defaults 0 0 but testing with mount -a results in the following error: /bin/sh: remote_comp:/: not found I thought the problem was because I was trying to mount the root of the other computer, but even trying sub-directories result in the same error message.

• How to implement Excel Solver functionality in C#?

  Hi, I have an application in C#, I need to do some optimization calculations, like Excel Solver Add-in does, one option is certainly to write my own solver implementation, but I'm kind of short of time, so I'm looking into libraries that already exist that can help me with this. I've been trying the Microsoft Solver Foundation, which seems pretty neat and cool, the problem is that it doesn't seem to work with the kind of calculations that I need to do. At the end of this question I'm adding the information about the calculations I need to perform and optimize. So basically my question is if any of you know of any other library that I can use for this purpose, or any tutorial that can help to do my own solver, or any idea that gives me a lead to solve this issue. Additional Info: This is the data I need to calculate: I have 7 variables, lets call them var1, var2,...,var7 The constraints for these variables are: All of them need to be 0 <= varn <= 0.5 (where n is the number of the variable) The sum of all the variables should be equal to 1 The objective is to maximize the target formula, which in Excel looks like this: (MMULT(TRANSPOSE(L26:L32),M14:M20)) / (SQRT(MMULT(MMULT(TRANSPOSE(L26:L32),M4:S10),L26:L32))) The range that you see in this formula, L26:L32, is actually the range with the variables from above, var1, var2,..., varn. M14:M20 and M4:S10 are ranges with data that I get from different sources, there are more likely decimal values. As I said before, I was using Microsoft Solver Foundation, I modeled pretty much everything with it, I created functions that handle the operations of the target formula, but when I tried to solve the model it always fail, I think it is because of the complexity of the operations. In any case, I just wanted to show these data so you can have an idea about the kind of calculations that I need to implement.

• Strange error when filling a data adapter.

  I am receiving the following error in my code (c#, .Net 3.5, VS2008) when I try to connect to an Excel sheet and fill a OleDbDataAdapter with the results of a query. First the error: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. • WPF Browser is there, but invisible.

• Can't log in via SSH to any accounts set to use /bin/bash as a default shell

  I'm trying to install bash as the default shell on a ARM Linux running on an embedded device (Synology DS212+ NAS). But there's something really wrong, and I can't figure out what it is. Symptoms: 1) Root has /bin/bash as default shell, and can log in normally via SSH: $ grep root /etc/passwd root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash $ ssh root@NAS root@NAS's password: Last login: Sun Dec 16 14:06:56 2012 from desktop # 2) joeuser has /bin/bash as default shell, and receives "Permission denied" when trying to log in via SSH: $ grep joeuser /etc/passwd joeuser:x:1029:100:Joe User:/home/joeuser:/bin/bash $ ssh joeuser@localhost joeuser@NAS's password: Last login: Sun Dec 16 14:07:22 2012 from desktop Permission denied, please try again. Connection to localhost closed. 3) changing joeuser's shell back to /bin/sh: $ grep joeuser /etc/passwd joeuser:x:1029:100:Joe User:/home/joeuser:/bin/sh $ ssh joeuser@localhost Last login: Sun Dec 16 15:50:52 2012 from localhost $ To make things even more strange, I can log in as joeuser using /bin/bash using the serial console (!). Also a su - joeuser as root works fine, so the bash binary itself is working fine. In an act of despair, I changed joeuser's uid to 0 on /etc/passwd, but also didn't work, so it doesn't seem to be anything permission related. Seems that bash is doing some extra checking that sshd didn't like, and blocking the connections for non-root users. Maybe some sort of sanity checking - or terminal emulation - that is triggering the SIGCHLD, but only when called via ssh. I already went through every single item on sshd_config, and also put SSHD in debug mode, but didn't find anything strange. • Find optimal/good-enough strategy and AI for the game 'Proximity'?

  'Proximity' is a strategy game of territorial domination similar to Othello, Go and Risk. Two players, uses a 10x12 hex grid. Game invented by Brian Cable in 2007. Seems to be a worthy game for discussing a) optimal algorithm then b) how to build an AI. Strategies are going to be probabilistic or heuristic-based, due to the randomness factor, and the insane branching factor (20^120). So it will be kind of hard to compare objectively. A compute time limit of 5s per turn seems reasonable. Game: Flash version here and many copies elsewhere on the web Rules: here Object: to have control of the most armies after all tiles have been placed. Each turn you received a randomly numbered tile (value between 1 and 20 armies) to place on any vacant board space. If this tile is adjacent to any ally tiles, it will strengthen each tile's defenses +1 (up to a max value of 20). If it is adjacent to any enemy tiles, it will take control over them if its number is higher than the number on the enemy tile. Thoughts on strategy: Here are some initial thoughts; setting the computer AI to Expert will probably teach a lot: minimizing your perimeter seems to be a good strategy, to prevent flips and minimize worst-case damage like in Go, leaving holes inside your formation is lethal, only more so with the hex grid because you can lose armies on up to 6 squares in one move low-numbered tiles are a liability, so place them away from your main territory, near the board edges and scattered. • Assembly installed into the GAC not showing up in Visual Studio

  This sounds related to this question, but they aren't the same thing. That question had no assemblies showing up. Mine has everything except the specific one I installed. I'm hoping someone has a solution to this... am I doing something wrong? Or did I find some bug in VS? I am using Visual Studio 2010 Professional Beta 2 on Windows 7 Ultimate. I just downloaded Rhino Mocks and decided to install it into the GAC using the command-line utility GACUTIL. I then rebooted. • Windows Phone - OnNavigatingFrom - problem

  I believe this is just a problem for me, due to my lack of programming ability. I am currently exploring transitions between page navigation with Windows Phone apps. I was originally using storyboards, and completed event handlers to have my pages animate on and off screen. These leads to the a problem when you want to navigate to many pages from one page, using the same transition. So I have started looking at OnNavigatedTo, and OnNavigatingFrom events and while it is working nicely for OnNavigatedTo, the later just wont work. It seems the Microsoft.Phone.Navigation assembly does not contain OnNavigatingFrom, and referencing System.Windows.Navigation, compiles ok, but I cant get pages to animate off upon navigation. I have a button on my Page2, which I want to go back to my MainPage (after I over-rided the back key with a message box for testing).   How do software houses like Microsoft or anti-virus companies patch/update their software? Anti virus companies dont send the complete executable; only new virus signatures I suppose. Similarly, Ive noticed microsoft sends certain files to the '$NtUninstallKB......$' folder that it creates when it the windows update program runs. I suppose there is an installer in each such folder there that replaces only those dlls that need to be updated or fixed. Questions Is there a universal method for doing this or does each house employ their own methods? I dont want to re-send the entire application to each individual client. Suppose if only certain dlls need to be changed or maybe some more added, how should I go about planning my final compiled application. Do I need to look at separating my application into multiple assemblies? If yes, then is there some compilation method that is allows to pack specific classes into a particular dll? What I have put down here are my thoughts on the subject and I could be wrong. Could anyone throw some light on this please? I am looking at implementing such a deployment and patch management technique for the .net platform. Thanks for your time.

  Hi I have fully working project in .net 3.5SP1, with EF 1 ORM. I tried to upgrade to .net 4. No issue while upgrading... Then i ran the project and got a NullExecptionError, with no stack trace... and no way to debug. • Custom DataType in DataTemplate breaks WPF designer

  Why does the DataTemplate line break the WPF designer in Visual Studio 2008? The program compiles and runs properly. The DataTemplate is applied as it should.
