• Need help limiting a join in Transact-sql

  I'm somewhat new to SQL and need help with query syntax. My issue involves 2 tables within a larger multi-table join under Transact-SQL (MS SQL Server 2000 Query Analyzer) I have ACCOUNTS and LOGINS, which are joined on 2 fields: Site & Subset. Both tables may have multiple rows for each Site/Subset combination. ACCOUNTS: | LOGINS: SITE SUBSET FIELD FIELD FIELD | SITE SUBSET USERID PASSWD alpha bravo blah blah blah | alpha bravo foo bar alpha charlie blah blah blah | alpha bravo bar foo alpha charlie bleh bleh blue | alpha charlie id ego delta bravo blah blah blah | delta bravo john welcome delta foxtrot blah blah blah | delta bravo jane welcome | delta bravo ken welcome | delta bravo barbara welcome I want to select all rows in ACCOUNTS which have LOGIN entries, but only 1 login per account. DESIRED RESULT: SITE SUBSET FIELD FIELD FIELD USERID PASSWD alpha bravo blah blah blah foo bar alpha charlie blah blah blah id ego alpha charlie bleh bleh blue id ego delta bravo blah blah blah jane welcome I don't really care which row from the login table I get, but the UserID and Password have to correspond. [Don't return invalid combinations like foo/foo or bar/bar] MS Access has a handy FIRST function, which can do this, but I haven't found an equivalent in TSQL. Also, if it makes a difference, other tables are joined to ACCOUNTS, but this is the only use of LOGINS in the structure. Thank you very much for any assistance.

• How to charge an iPhone on a Windows PC without Installing iTunes

  I want to be able to charge my iPhone on my work computer, which is running Windows Server 2008 SP1 64-Bit. When I plug the iPhone in with the USB cable, it will not charge. Windows attempts to locate a driver for the device but only comes up with a generic Camera device and even if I allow that to be installed, the iPhone still does not charge. I have checked the computer's BIOS settings and did not find anything relating to power on the USB devices. I also tried this on ports at the back of the computer in addition to those on the front. The PC is a Dell Optiplex 780. As far as I can tell USB devices do not charge unless Windows has installed an appropriate driver. Since it is a work computer I do not want to install iTunes which does include a driver. I have a workaround that I will post as an answer for reference.

  I have a NVidia FX580 card in a Dell Precision T1500. The outputs of the back of the card are DVI and 2x displayport. I tried to run 3 screens from the DVI + 2x displayport to dvi adaptors, but the card won't have it... It'll only run 2 of these screens at the same time. http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_quadro_fx_580_us.html says; **Display Support:** Dual Link DVI-I 1 DisplayPort 2 # of Digital Outputs 3 ( 2 out of 3 active at a time ) # of Analog Outputs 1 To me this reads that it will be able to power 2xdvi monitors and 1xvga monitor. Anyone care to confirm or speculate?

My only guess is that the power supply is failing and I need a new one. I wanted to check here and see if anyone else had some other idea before I bought a new one. • Filemaker to SQL Server via SSIS

  I'm using SSIS and trying to import data from Filelmaker into SQL Server. In the Solution Explorer, I right click on "SSIS Packages" and select SQL Server Import and Export Wizard". During the process, I use my DSN as the source, SQL Server as the destination, use a valid query to pull data from Filemaker, and set the mappings. Each time I try to run the package, I receive the following message: The "output column "LastNameFirst" (12)" has a length that is not valide. The length must be between 0 and 4000. I do not understand this error exactly, but in the documentation for ODBC: http://www.filemaker.com/downloads/pdf/fm9%5Fodbc%5Fjdbc%5Fguide%5Fen.pdf (page 47) it states: "The maximum column length of text is 1 million characters, unless you specify a smaller Maximum number of characters for the text field in FileMaker. FileMaker returns empty strings as NULL." I'm thinking that the data type is too large when trying to convert it to varchar. But even after using a query of SUBSTR(LastNameFirst, 1, 2000), I get the same error. Any suggestions?

There are hundreds of thousands of nearby points which to what I can tell, are being indexed by Sphinx, but simply fails silently when searching with Sphinx. • How do I get SSIS Data Flow to put '0.00' in a flat file?

  I have an SSIS package with a Data Flow that takes an ADO.NET data source (just a small table), executes a select * query, and outputs the query results to a flat file (I've also tried just pulling the whole table and not using a SQL select). The problem is that the data source pulls a column that is a Money datatype, and if the value is not zero, it comes into the text flat file just fine (like '123.45'), but when the value is zero, it shows up in the destination flat file as '.00'. I need to know how to get the leading zero back into the flat file. I've tried various datatypes for the output (in the Flat File Connection Manager), including currency and string, but this seems to have no effect. I've tried a case statement in my select, like this: CASE WHEN columnValue = 0 THEN '0.00' ELSE columnValue END (still results in '.00') I've tried variations on that like this: CASE WHEN columnValue = 0 THEN convert(decimal(12,2), '0.00') ELSE convert(decimal(12,2), columnValue) END (Still results in '.00') and: CASE WHEN columnValue = 0 THEN convert(money, '0.00') ELSE convert(money, columnValue) END (results in '.0000000000000000000') This silly little issue is killin' me. Can anybody tell me how to get a zero Money datatype database value into a flat file as '0.00'?

• Store comparison in variable (or execute comparison when it's given as an string)

  Hello everyone. I'd like to know if the super-powerful python allows to store a comparison in a variable or, if not, if it's possible calling/executing a comparison when given as an string ("==" or "!=") I want to allow the users of my program the chance of giving a comparison in an string. For instance, let's say I have a list of... "products" and the user wants to select the products whose manufacturer is "foo". He could would input something like: Product.manufacturer == "foo" and if the user wants the products whose manufacturer is not "bar" he would input Product.manufacturer != "bar" If the user inputs that line as an string, I create a tree with an structure like: != / \ manufacturer bar I'd like to allow that comparison to run properly, but I don't know how to make it happen if != is an string. The "manufacturer" field is a property, so I can properly get it from the Product class and store it (as a property) in the leaf, and well... "bar" is just an string. I'd like to know if I can something similar to what I do with "manufacturer": storing it with a 'callable" (kind of) thing: the property with the comparator: != I have tried with "eval" and it may work, but the comparisons are going to be actually used to query a MySQL database (using sqlalchemy) and I'm a bit concerned about the security of that... Any idea will be deeply appreciated. Thank you! PS: The idea of all this is being able to generate a sqlalchemy query, so if the user inputs the string: Product.manufacturer != "foo" || Product.manufacturer != "bar" ... my tree thing can generate the following: sqlalchemy.or_(Product.manufacturer !="foo", Product.manufacturer !="bar") Since sqlalchemy.or_ is callable, I can also store it in one of the leaves... I only see a problem with the "!="

• EF4 querying from parent to grandchildren

  I have a model withs Parents, Children and Grandchildren, in a many-to-many relationship. Using this article I created POCO classes that work fine, except for one thing I can't yet figure out. When I query the Parents or Children directly using LINQ, the SQL reflects the LINQ query (a .Count() executes a COUNT in the database and so on) - fine. The Parent class has a Children property, to access it's children. But (and now for the problem) this doesn't expose an IQueryable interface but an ICollection. So when I access the Children property on a particular parent all the Parent's Children are read. Even worse, when I access the Grandchildren (theParent.Children.SelectMany(child => child.GrandChildren).Count()) then for each and every child a separate request is issued to select all data of it's grandchildren. That's a lot of separate queries! Changing the type of the Children property from ICollection to IQueryable doesn't solve this. Apart from missing methods I need, like Add() and Remove(), EF just doesn't recognize the navigation property then. Are there correct ways (as in: low database interaction) of querying through children (and what are they)? Or is this just not possible?

• Restore using time machine from an macbook to an macbook pro (first intel)

  Hello.. My girlfriend have Macbook 10.6.3, the first plastic version. the screen broke an its at service store now. In the mean time, i have tried to restore from hers TM backup to my old macbook pro 10.6.3 (the first intel version). Everything seems to work out fine, but when its finish, it says reboot, but nothing happens. When i hold down the power button, powering down, and starts again, its come up with the grey roll down screen "you need to restart your machine again" in different languages. I have tried the restore procedure over again 2 times, and every time it ends up like this... Anyone have a suggestion what to do ? Thanks - Anders.

• Setting empathy's idle time

  Hello - I'm using Empathy for IM on Ubuntu 10.04. In every IM client I've used since the '90s there's always been a way to set "idle me after X time", at which point it would set you as being away. Empathy seems to do this, but I haven't found a place to specify how long to wait before marking me as away. Am I missing a plugin or something in the settings? Is this somehow tied in with Gnome and the power setting's idle time? (I'm using a laptop.) Cheers.

  We have a WPF app that has a DataGrid inside a ListView. private DataTable table_; We do a bunch or dynamic column generation ( depending on the report we are showing ) We then do the a query and fill the DataTable row by row, this query may or may not have data.( not the problem, an empty grid is expected ) We set the ListView's ItemsSource to the DefaultView of the DataTable. lv.ItemsSource = table_.DefaultView; We then (looking at the user's pass usage of the app, set the sort on the column) Sort Method below: private void Sort(string sortBy, ListSortDirection direction) { ICollectionView dataView = CollectionViewSource.GetDefaultView(lv.ItemsSource); dataView.SortDescriptions.Clear(); var sd = new SortDescription(sortBy, direction); dataView.SortDescriptions.Add(sd); dataView.Refresh(); } In the Zero DataTable rows scenario, the sort does not "hold"? and if we dynamically add rows they will not be in sorted order. If the DataTable has at-least 1 row when the sort is applied, and we dynamically add rows to the DataTable, the rows com in sorted correctly. I have built a standalone app that replicate this... It is an annoyance and I can add a check to see if the DataTable was empty, and re-apply the sort... Anyone know whats going on here, and am I doing something wrong?   My scenario: This is an ASP.NET 4.0 web app programmed via C# I implement a repository pattern. My repositorys all share the same ObjectContext, which is stored in httpContext.Items. Each repository creates a new ObjectSet of type E. Heres some code from my repository: public class Repository<E> : IRepository<E>, IDisposable where E : class { private DataModelContainer _context = ContextHelper<DataModelContainer>.GetCurrentContext(); private IObjectSet<E> _objectSet; private IObjectSet<E> objectSet { get { if (_objectSet == null) { _objectSet = this._context.CreateObjectSet<E>(); } return _objectSet; } } public IQueryable<E> GetQuery() { return objectSet; } Lets say I have 2 repositorys, 1 for states and 1 for countrys and want to create a linq query against both. Note that I use POCO classes with the entity framework. State and Country are 2 of these POCO classes. Repository stateRepo = new Repository<State>(); Repository countryRepo = new Repository<Country>(); IEnumerable<State> states = (from s in _stateRepo.GetQuery() join c in _countryRepo.GetQuery() on s.countryID equals c.countryID select s).ToList(); Debug.WriteLine(states.First().Country.country) essentially, I want to retrieve the state and the related country entity. The query only returns the state data... and I get a null argument exception on the Debug.WriteLine LazyLoading is disabled in my .edmx... thats the way I want it.

  Hi, I have a strange issue (at least for me :)) with the MySQL's locking facility. I have a table: Create Table: CREATE TABLE test ( id int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, PRIMARY KEY (id) ) ENGINE=InnoDB AUTO_INCREMENT=13 DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 With this data: +----+ | id | +----+ | 3 | | 4 | | 5 | | 6 | | 7 | | 8 | | 10 | | 11 | | 12 | +----+ Now I have 2 clients with these commands executed at the beginning: set autocommit=0; set session transaction isolation level serializable; begin; Now the most interesting part. The first client executes this query: (makes an intent to insert a row with id equal to 9) SELECT * from test where id = 9 FOR UPDATE; Empty set (0.00 sec) Then the second client does the same: SELECT * from test where id = 9 FOR UPDATE; Empty set (0.00 sec) My question is: Why the second client does not block ? An exclusive gap lock should have been set by the first query because FOR UPDATE have been used and the second client should block. If I am wrong, could somebody tell me how to do it correctly ?   I'm trying to use the following c# code to detect the attached/removed event of usb mass storage devices. The Microsoft documentation says that this should work (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa394516(VS.85).aspx). I googled for this quite a while and found other that have this problem too. But I also found a couple of articles which claim that this kind of query (mostly in vbscript) works with XP. But I cannot find some offical information from microsoft for this issue and I can't believe that Microsoft have overlooked this issue for three service packs. So my question is: has anybody used the Win32_VolumeChangeEvent with success on XP or can provide a link/explanation why it shouldn't work on XP?

• How can I connect any USB device to my computer wirelessly?

  I am trying to connect the Canon 550D wirelessly to my computer so that I can control it from at a distance. It can connect normally via a USB cable, so I was wondering if there was a way to plug a dongle into the computer, and a dongle into the camera so the two can connect. I'm basically looking for a really long USB cord that will work over long distances (200+ feet). Another important factor is that I really would prefer not having use a power cord, rather just plugging in a dongle, as it will make the setup more mobile. Does anything like this exist? (I know that Cables Unlimited had something like what I wanted, but they went out of business last year)

  Hello, I am integrating SqlCacheDependency to use in my LinqToSQL datacontext. I am using an extension class for Linq querys found here - http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/linqtosqlcache I have wired up the code and when I open the page I get this exception - "The SQL Server Service Broker for the current database is not enabled, and as a result query notifications are not supported. Please enable the Service Broker for this database if you wish to use notifications." its coming from this event in the global.asax protected void Application_Start() { RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes); //In Application Start Event System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDependency.Start(new dataContextDataContext().Connection.ConnectionString); } my question is... how do i enable Service Broker in my SQL server 2008 database? I have tried to run this query.. ALTER DATABASE tablename SET ENABLE_BROKER but it never ends and runs for ever, I have to manually stop it. once I have this set in SQL server 2008, will it filter down to my DataContext, or do I need to configure something there too ? thanks for any help Truegilly

  Hi All, Here I am trying to assign the datasource (using same code given in the sample application) and create a graph, only difference is i am doing it in WPF WindowsFormsHost. due to some reason the datasource is not being assigned properly and i am not able to see the series ("Series 1") being created. wired thing is that it is working in the Windows Forms application but not in the WPF one. am i missing something and can somebody help me? • SubSonic 3 ignoring columns in Select()

StoreNumber int LocationHourID When I try to perform a query against this class like so.. var result = DB.LocationHours.Where(o => o.LocationID == _locationId); This is the resulting SQL query that SubSonic generates. SELECT [t0].[LocationHourID], [t0].[LocationID], [t0].[StoreNumber] FROM [dbo].[Locations_Hours] AS t0 WHERE ([t0].[LocationID] = 4019) I cannot figure out why SubSonic is omitting the nvarchar fields when it generates the SELECT statement. Anyone got any ideas?

• Anyone have experience with Silicon Mechanics 4-Node Machines?

  I'm taking a look at buying some new servers (small infrastructure, 2 racks, etc), and although I like a lot of the features in blades, I'm looking at the price point for Silicon Mechanics' 4-node machines. http://www.siliconmechanics.com/i27091/xeon-2U-4-Node.php It's a bit like a mini-blade enclosure, but has no shared resources, except for the redundant power supplies. A single point of management would be great, but for the low price point here, I'm possibly willing to give that up, if the server quality is adequate. Basically, have you used these machines? Any problems? Anything you like?

• Encode real-time dvb-s stream using mencoder

  My satellite receiver can stream the mpeg-2 video/audio output through lan. Using mencoder, I'm trying to build a script to encode and save the stream in real time with my Core2Duo 1.8 Ghz. Right now, I'm using a single pass, it produces good quality for a video rate of 800Kb/s, but takes more then 95% of CPU power, thus making a lot of frameskips is the computer is used while encoding. mencoder -o -vf lavcdeint -oac mp3lame -lameopts abr:q=2:aq=2 -ovc x264 -ffourcc avc1 -x264encopts crf=25:me=hex:subq=9:frameref=2:nocabac:threads=auto -mc 3 So, I'm considering using a 2-pass encoding to alleviate the processor and record 100% of the stream. But I have no idea how to start. For the info: Standard Stream: mpeg-2 720*576 25fps HD Stream: 1920*1080 50fps (this is not my goal to record it, but it will be super cool if I could)

• Maintaining ISAPI Rewrite Path with the ASP.NET tilde (~)

  My team is upgrading from ASP.NET 3.5 to ASP.NET 4.0. We are currently using Helicon ISAPI Rewrite to map http://localhost/<account-name>/default.aspx to http://localhost/<virtual-directory>/default.aspx?AccountName=<account-name> where <account-name> is a query string variable and <virtual-directory> is a virtual directory (naturally). Before the upgrade the tilde (~) resolved to http://localhost/<account-name>/... (which I want it to do) and after the upgrade the tilde resolves to http://localhost/<virtual-directory>/... which results in an error because the <account-name> query string is required. I'd like to avoid going down the road of replacing everything with relative paths because there are several features in our system that use the entire URL instead of just the relative path. For what it's worth I'm using IIS7 in Windows 7, Visual Studio 2010 with ASP.NET 4.0 and the 64 bit Helicon ISAPI Rewrite. If I switch back to the ASP.NET 3.5 version then it still works fine (leading me to believe nothing changed in IIS unless it's within the 4.0 app pool - when I switch back and forth between 3.5 and 4.0 I have to change the app pool in IIS). Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
