• Ubuntu + SSL ports + AVAST

  I have an interesting problem with communication via standard SSL ports. Fresh installed Ubuntu 14.04 server + Postfix + Dovecot, SASL authentication provided by Dovecot, self-signed certificate generated trough the Dovecot script mkcert.sh. Redirected ports on ZyWALL USG 200. I can send and receive e-mails from outside with standard ports 25 and 110, but not over 587. I am connecting to my server from machine with Windows 8.1 + VMWare Player + Ubuntu 14.04 Desktop + ssh. On Windows host I have installed Avast! antivirus. When I am trying to telnet from virtual machine to server over 587, it refused connection. But when I turn on Avast! it let me in to message Connected to... Same with nmap. When Avast! is turned on it is show me all SSL ports. When I turned it off, only standard ports appeared. OpenSSL shows me CONNECTED(00000003). But outside virtual machine directly in Windows 8.1 using nmap with zenmap there are not opened SSL ports in both Avast! states. From other external linux machines are problems with touching SSL ports same - refused. I have turned on submission in master.cf and 587 port is correctly listening on 0.0.0.0 in process master.pid which belongs to Postfix. I can telnet, or nmap over port 587 to my domain directly from server. Other ports like 995, 993 are OK on localhost, too. It is true, that I can't send emails via 587 anyway (Avast! turned on/off), but I can see ports opened. It is possible, that I have simply bad certificate and Avast! has right one, so with turned it on I can see opened ports? EDIT: To be more clear, I can't see or using port 587 everywhere from outside (tried Thunderbird, telnet, openssl, nmap, putty, swaks; both from Linux or Windows machines) and that is my problem. It was only by chance that I saw opened ports when Avast! is turned on.

• Need a script/batch/program that runs a command that won't be killed when the parent is killed

  The scenario I use Zabbix to monitor my servers and recently I wanted to add some more metrics for the Windows ones. For security reasons, I used Zabbix's User Parameter feature, but it limits the execution of external commands to about 3 seconds. After that, the command is forcibly killed. I want to run some long run commands, so I used the trick from Zabbix's forum: run the command in the background, write the results to a file and use Zabbix to collect them. This is rather easy under *nix thanks to the "&" operator, but there is no such support in Windows' shell. To make things worse, when Zabbix kills forcibly kill the cmd.exe it used to evaluate the commands, all child processes die including the unfinished background tasks. Thus I need something that can sever all the ties with its children so they won't be affected in the cascading kill. What I've tried start and start /B - They do nothing as the child always die with the parent WScript.Shell.Run as in invis.vbs from StackOverflow - Sometimes work. If the wscript process is forcibly killed as opposed to quitting on its own, the children will die as well. hstart - similar results to invis.vbs At command - This requires you to set an absolution time for the task to run as opposed to an offset, so the code would be quite messy due to the limited shell scripting capability of Windows. (Edit) PsExec.exe from the SysInternals suite - It uses a service to launch the command, so it is not affected by the kill; however, it prints some banner and log info to StdErr and there's no switch to disable this. When I use 2>NUL to redirect them, Zabbix reports an error. After trying the above in different combinations, I noticed if I call hstart from invis.vbs, the command started by the former will be left alone as a parent-less process when invis.vbs is killed. However, since I need to redirect the output, the command I want to run is always in the form of cmd.exe /c ""command" "args"" >log. The vbs also removes all the quotes, so I have to encode the command with self-defined escape sequences. The end result involves about five levels of escaping/quoting, which is almost impossible to maintain. Anyone know any better solutions? Some requirements Any bat/vbs/js/Win32 binary is acceptable Better not require multiple levels of escaping No .Net (including PowerShell) because it is not installed

• Jboss logging issue

  Our application is deployed on JBoss As 4.0x and we face some issues with JBoss logging. Whenever the server is restarted, JBoss stops logging, and there is no update in server.log. After that it is not updating the log file. Then we do touch cmd on log4j.xml, so that it creates the log files again. Please help me in fixing the issue we cant do touch everytime. We face this issue in both the nodes. I could not figure where the problem is? If any other issues, we can check the log files. If log itself is not getting updated/logged, how can we move further in analyzing the issues without the recent/updated logs? • Help with SVN+SSH permissions with CentOS/WHM setup

  Hi Folks, I'll try my best to explain how I'm trying to set up this system. Imagine a production server running WHM with various sites. We'll call these sites... site1, site2, site2 Now, with the WHM setup, each site has a user/group defined for them, we'll keep these users/groups called site1,site2 for simplicity reasons. Now, updating these sites is accomplished using SVN, and through the use of a post commit script to auto update these sites (With .svn blocked through the apache configuration). There are two regular maintainers of these sites, we'll call them Joe and Bob. Joe and Bob both have commandline access to the server through thier respective limited accounts. So I've done the easy bit, managed to get SVN working with these "maintainers" so that when an SVN commit occurs, the changes are checked out and go live perfectly. Here's the cavet, and ultimately my problem. User permissions. Through my testing of this setup, I've only managed to get it working by giving what is being updated permissions of 777, so that Joe and Bob can both read and write access to webfront directories for each of the sites. So, an example of how it's set up now: Joe and Bob both belong to a group called "Dev". I have the master /svn folders set up for both read and write access to this group, and it works great. Post commit triggers, updates the site, and then sets 777 on each file within the webfront. I then changed this to try and factor in group permission updates, instead of straight 777. Each folder in /home/site1/public_html intially gets given a chmod of 664, and each folder 775 Which looks a little something like this drwxrwxr-x . drwxrwxr-x .. drwxrwxr-x site1 site1 my_test_folder -rw-rw-r-- site1 site1 my_test_file So site1 is sthe owner and group owner of those files and folders. So I then added site1 to Joe and Bobs secondary groups so that the SVN update will correctly allow access to these files. Herein lies the problem now. When I wish to add a file or folder to /home/site1, say Bobs_file, it then looks like this drwxrwxr-x . drwxrwxr-x .. drwxr-xr-x Bob dev bobs_folder drwxrwxr-x site1 site1 my_test_folder -rw-rw-r-- Bob dev bobs_file -rw-rw-r-- site1 site1 my_test_file How can I get it so that with the set of user permissions Bob has available, to change the owner and group owner of that file to reflect "site1" "site1". As Bob belongs to Dev I can set the permissions correctly with CHMOd, but It appears CHGRP is throwing back operation errors. Now this was long winded enough to give an overview of exactly what I'm trying to accomplish, just incase I'm going about this arse-over-tit and there's a far easier solution. Here's my goals 2 people to update multiple user accounts specified given the structure of WHM Trying to maintain master user/group permissions of file and folders to the original user account, and not the account of the updatee. I like the security of SVN+SSH over just SVN. Don't want to run all this over root. I hope this made sense, and thanks in advance :)

• wpf window refresh works at first, then stops

  I've got a routine that grabs a list of all images in a directory, then runs an MD5 digest on all of them. Since this takes a while to do, I pop up a window with a progress bar. The progress bar is updated by a lambda that I pass in to the long-running routine. The first problem was that the progress window was never updated (which is normal in WPF I guess). Since WPF lacks a Refresh() command I fixed this with a call to Dispatcher.Invoke(). Now the progress bar is updated for a while, then the window stops being updated. The long-running work does eventually finish and the windows go back to normal. I have already tried a BackgroundWorker and quickly became frustrated by a threading issue related to an event triggered by the long-running process. So if that's really the best solution and I just need to learn the paradigm better, please say so. But I'd be really much happier with the approach I've got here, except that it stops updating after a bit (for example, in a folder with 1000 files, it might update for 50-100 files, then "hang"). The UI does not need to be responsive during this activity, except to report on progress. Anyway, here's the code.   I was looking for list of actions and their sequence when running a WiX setup. Somehow the official website doesn't seem to provide any information. The basic problem is that I want to schedule my custom actions correctly. Typically I need to register a DLL with regsvr32.exe, and this can only be done once the files are copied to the harddrive. • Stored proc running 30% slower through Java versus running directly on database

  Hi All, I'm using Java 1.6, JTDS 1.2.2 (also just tried 1.2.4 to no avail) and SQL Server 2005 to create a CallableStatement to run a stored procedure (with no parameters). I am seeing the Java wrapper running the same stored procedure 30% slower than using SQL Server Management Studio. I've run the MS SQL profiler and there is little difference in I/O between the two processes, so I don't think it's related to query plan caching. The stored proc takes no arguments and returns no data. It uses a server-side cursor to calculate the values that are needed to populate a table. I can't see how the calling a stored proc from Java should add a 30% overhead, surely it's just a pipe to the database that SQL is sent down and then the database executes it....Could the database be giving the Java app a different query plan?? I've posted to both the MSDN forums, and the sourceforge JTDS forums (topic: "stored proc slower in JTDS than direct in DB") I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to why this might be happening? Executing procedure..."); stmt.executeQuery(); sLogger.info("Procedure complete."); I have run sql profiler, and found the following: Java app : CPU: 466,514 Reads: 142,478,387 Writes: 284,078 Duration: 983,796 SSMS : CPU: 466,973 Reads: 142,440,401 Writes: 280,244 Duration: 769,851 (Both with DBCC DROPCLEANBUFFERS run prior to profiling, and both produce the correct number of rows) So my conclusion is that they both execute the same reads and writes, it's just that the way they are doing it is different, what do you guys think? It turns out that the query plans are significantly different for the different clients (the Java client is updating an index during an insert that isn't in the faster SQL client, also, the way it is executing joins is different (nested loops Vs. gather streams, nested loops Vs index scans, argh!)). Quite why this is, I don't know yet (I'll re-post when I do get to the bottom of it) Epilogue I couldn't get this to work properly. I tried homogenising the connection properties (arithabort, ansi_nulls etc) between the Java and Mgmt studio clients. It ended up the two different clients had very similar query/execution plans (but still with different actual plan_ids). I posted a summary of what I found to the MSDN SQL Server forums as I found differing performance not just between a JDBC client and management studio, but also between Microsoft's own command line client, SQLCMD, I also checked some more radical things like network traffic too, or wrapping the stored proc inside another stored proc, just for grins. I have a feeling the problem lies somewhere in the way the cursor was being executed, and it was somehow giving rise to the Java process being suspended, but why a different client should give rise to this different locking/waiting behaviour when nothing else is running and the same execution plan is in operation is a little beyond my skills (I'm no DBA!). As a result, I have decided that 4 days is enough of anyone's time to waste on something like this, so I will grudgingly code around it (if I'm honest, the stored procedure needed re-coding to be more incremental instead of re-calculating all data each week anyway), and chalk this one down to experience. I'll leave the question open, big thanks to everyone who put their hat in the ring, it was all useful, and if anyone comes up with anything further, I'd love to hear some more options...and if anyone finds this post as a result of seeing this behaviour in their own environments, then hopefully there's some pointers here that you can try yourself, and hope fully see further than we did. • NHibernate won't persist DateTime SqlDateTime overflow

  I am working on an ASP.NET MVC project with NHibernate as the backend and am having some trouble getting some dates to write back to my SQL Server database tables. These date fields are NOT nullable, so the many answers here about how to setup nullable datetimes have not helped. Basically when I try to save the entity which has a DateAdded and a LastUpdated fields, I am getting a SqlDateTime overflow exception. I have had a similar problem in the past where I was trying to write a datetime field into a smalldatetime column, updating the type on the column appeared to fix the problem. My gut feeling is that its going to be some problem with the table definition or some type of incompatible data types, and the overflow exception is a bit of a bum steer. I have attached an example of the table definition and the query that NHibernate is trying to run, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. • Run javascript after form submission in update panel?

  This is driving me crazy! I have read at least 5 questions on here closely related to my problem, and probably 5 or so more pages just from googling. I just don't get it. I am trying to have a jqueryui dialog come up after a user fills out a form saying 'registration submitted' and then redirecting to another page, but I cannot for the life of me get any javascript to work, not even a single alert. Putting that same code in a script tag inside the updatePanel. Tried to use RegisterClientScriptBlock and RegisterStartUpScript Just doing a Response.Write with the script tag written in it. Tried various combinations of putting the entire jquery.dialog code in the registerstartup script, or just trying to change the autoOpen property, or just calling "open" on it. I can't even get a simple alert to work with any of these, so I am doing something wrong but I just don't know what it is. Here is what I know: The Jquery is binding properly even on async postbacks, because the div container that is the dialog box is always invisible, I saw a similiar post on here stating that was causing an issue, this isn't the case here. Using page_load instead of document.ready since that is supposed to run on both async and normal postbacks, so that isn't the issue. The update panel is updating correctly because <p>Did register Pass? <%= registrationComplete %></p> updates to true after I submit the form. So how can I make this work? All I want is - click submit button inside an update panel - run server side code to validate form and insert into db - if everything succeeded, have that jquery (modal) dialog pop up saying hey it worked.

  I have a WCF service which is hosted on IIS6 on a Win2003 SP2 machine. The WCF service is hosting correctly and is visible over HTTP giving the usual "To test this service, you will need to create a client and use it to call the service" message. However accessing the .svc?WSDL link causes the connection to be reset. I have looked into some of the other options - creating a separate WSDL manually and exposing it through the metadata properties (really don't want to do that due to the maintenance issues). If anyone can offer any thoughts on this or any other workarounds it would be greatly appreciated.

The inner pieces of the payload then do not have the namespace and the get the error. This is a guess on my part but I wouldn't be surprised if this is what was going on behind the scenes.   I am creating a model-first Entity Framework 4 app that uses SQL CE as its data store. All is well until I call ObjectContext.SaveChanges() to save changes to the entities in the model.   Hi stack overflow, I have a problem with some numpy stuff. I need a numpy array to behave in an unusual manner by returning a slice as a view of the data I have sliced, not a copy. So heres an example of what I want to do: Say we have a simple array like this: a = array([1, 0, 0, 0]) I would like to update consecutive entries in the array (moving left to right) with the previous entry from the array, using syntax like this: a[1:] = a[0:3] This would get the following result: a = array([1, 1, 1, 1]) Or something like this: a[1:] = 2*a[:3] # a = [1,2,4,8] To illustrate further I want the following kind of behaviour: for i in range(len(a)): if i == 0 or i+1 == len(a): continue a[i+1] = a[i] Except I want the speed of numpy. The default behavior of numpy is to take a copy of the slice, so what I actually get is this: a = array([1, 1, 0, 0]) I already have this array as a subclass of the ndarray, so I can make further changes to it if need be, I just need the slice on the right hand side to be continually updated as it updates the slice on the left hand side. Am I dreaming or is this magic possible? Update: This is all because I am trying to use Gauss-Seidel iteration to solve a linear algebra problem, more or less. It is a special case involving harmonic functions, I was trying to avoid going into this because its really not necessary and likely to confuse things further, but here goes. The algorithm is this: while not converged: for i in range(len(u[:,0])): for j in range(len(u[0,:])): # skip over boundary entries, i,j == 0 or len(u) u[i,j] = 0.25*(u[i-1,j] + u[i+1,j] + u[i, j-1] + u[i,j+1]) Right? But you can do this two ways, Jacobi involves updating each element with its neighbours without considering updates you have already made until the while loop cycles, to do it in loops you would copy the array then update one array from the copied array. However Gauss-Seidel uses information you have already updated for each of the i-1 and j-1 entries, thus no need for a copy, the loop should essentially 'know' since the array has been re-evaluated after each single element update. That is to say, every time we call up an entry like u[i-1,j] or u[i,j-1] the information calculated in the previous loop will be there. I want to replace this slow and ugly nested loop situation with one nice clean line of code using numpy slicing: u[1:-1,1:-1] = 0.25(u[:-2,1:-1] + u[2:,1:-1] + u[1:-1,:-2] + u[1:-1,2:]) But the result is Jacobi iteration because when you take a slice: u[:,-2,1:-1] you copy the data, thus the slice is not aware of any updates made. Now numpy still loops right? Its not parallel its just a faster way to loop that looks like a parallel operation in python. I want to exploit this behaviour by sort of hacking numpy to return a pointer instead of a copy when I take a slice. Right? Then every time numpy loops, that slice will 'update' or really just replicate whatever happened in the update. To do this I need slices on both sides of the array to be pointers. Anyway if there is some really really clever person out there that awesome, but I've pretty much resigned myself to believing the only answer is to loop in C.

Basically, right now I have my default.aspx page only just for a workaround I could able to display the data from my DB. But once I add data manually to my DB there's no updating made. Any suggestions guys to fix this problem? I need to update datagridview with out refreshing the page. I am trying to update all <span id="column_[some number]"> to increment it by one after the next id="row_" tr element, but for some god knows what reason, it gives me issues.   I am having issue with the following: I can't seem to keep the link I am selecting in each repeated item. The word "this" is getting lost. the Var event_id works for each element, but the var $something is undefined? Why is that, Ideally I wanted to do a switch statement but same issue, can't seem to get it to know what link I click and the elements around it to do the action. • Update UI from an event with a thread

  Im working on a small application to try out an idea that I have. The idea is to periodically update the UI when event of some sort occurs. In the demo I've created, I'm updating a ProgressDialog every 2 seconds for 15 turns. The problem I am having, which I don't quite understand is that when an event is handled, I send a message to the handler which is supposed to update the message in the ProgressDialog. When this happens however, I get an exception which states that I can't update the UI from that thread. • How can I get SQL Server transactions to use record-level locks?

  We have an application that was originally written as a desktop app, lo these many years ago. It starts a transaction whenever you open an edit screen, and commits if you click OK, or rolls back if you click Cancel. This worked okay for a desktop app, but now we're trying to move to ADO.NET and SQL Server, and the long-running transactions are problematic. I found that we'll have a problem when multiple users are all trying to edit (different subsets of) the same table at the same time. In our old database, each user's transaction would acquire record-level locks to every record they modified during their transaction; since different users were editing different records, everyone gets their own locks and everything works. But in SQL Server, as soon as one user edits a record inside a transaction, SQL Server appears to get a lock on the entire table. When a second user tries to edit a different record in the same table, the second user's app simply locks up, because the SqlConnection blocks until the first user either commits or rolls back. I'm aware that long-running transactions are bad, and I know that the best solution would be to change these screens so that they no longer keep transactions open for a long time. But since that would mean some invasive and risky changes, I also want to research whether there's a way to get this code up and running as-is, just so I know what my options are. How can I get two different users' transactions in SQL Server to lock individual records instead of the entire table? Here's a quick-and-dirty console app that illustrates the issue. I've created a database called "test1", with one table called "Values" that just has ID (int) and Value (nvarchar) columns. If you run the app, it asks for an ID to modify, starts a transaction, modifies that record, and then leaves the transaction open until you press ENTER. I want to be able to start the program and tell it to update ID 1; let it get its transaction and modify the record; start a second copy of the program and tell it to update ID 2; have it able to update (and commit) while the first app's transaction is still open. Currently it freezes at step 4, until I go back to the first copy of the app and close it or press ENTER so it commits. • java gui changing picture causes heapspace error

  I have a java programme than when a button is clicked it updates the image on screen to the according image. this will work for the first 15 or so clicks then it causes a java heapspace error. I think it is because of the way I am updating the jpanel that contains the bufferedimage but not sure what the reason is.
