  • Having trouble doing an Update with a Linq to Sql object

    Hi folks, i've got a simple linq to sql object. I grab it from the database and change a field then save. No rows have been updated. :( When I check the full Sql code that is sent over the wire, I notice that it does an update to the row, not via the primary key but on all the fields via the where clause. Is this normal? I would have thought that it would be easy to update the field(s) with the where clause linking on the Primary Key, instead of where'ing (is that a word :P) on each field. here's the code... using (MyDatabase db = new MyDatabase()) { var boardPost = (from bp in db.BoardPosts where bp.BoardPostId == boardPostId select bp).SingleOrDefault(); if (boardPost != null && boardPost.BoardPostId > 0) { boardPost.ListId = listId; // This changes the value from 0 to 'x' db.SubmitChanges(); } } and here's some sample sql.. exec sp_executesql N'UPDATE [dbo].[BoardPost] SET [ListId] = @p6 WHERE ([BoardPostId] = @p0) AND .... <snip the other fields>',N'@p0 int,@p1 int,@p2 nvarchar(9),@p3 nvarchar(10),@p4 int,@p5 datetime,@p6 int',@p0=1276,@p1=212787,@p2=N'ttreterte',@p3=N'ttreterte3',@p4=1,@p5='2009-09-25 12:32:12.7200000',@p6=72 Now, i know there's a datetime field in this update .. and when i checked the DB it's value was/is '2009-09-25 12:32:12.720' (less zero's, than above) .. so i'm not sure if that is messing up the where clause condition... but still! should it do a where clause on the PK's .. if anything .. for speed! Yes / no ? UPDATE After reading nitzmahone's reply, I then tried playing around with the optimistic concurrency on some values, and it still didn't work :( So then I started some new stuff ... with the optimistic concurrency happening, it includes a where clause on the field it's trying to update. When that happens, it doesn't work. so.. in the above sql, the where clause looks like this ... WHERE ([BoardPostId] = @p0) AND ([ListId] IS NULL) AND ... <rest snipped>) This doesn't sound right! the value in the DB is null, before i do the update. but when i add the ListId value to the where clause (or more to the point, when L2S add's it because of the optomistic concurrecy), it fails to find/match the row. wtf?

    I have a selection for some items using a spinner widget. At the moment the spinner will load a simple Textview and show the name of the item. It is possible to define an own view to show inside the spinner row? I would suspect it being similar to a custom List row. I simply want to show an individual icon left from the spinner text for each item in the list.

  • Recommendations for a programmable drivers license scanner?

We're looking for something that will allow us to programmatically get the data from the scanner (including the picture) and let us insert it into our application.   • Automatic document generation

    I have some data in an excel file from which I have to generate a report. I repeat this task fairly regularly and am looking to automate it. I have a LaTeX project into which I usually just copy data by hand, export the necessary worksheets as pdfs and add them to my LaTeX project and compile with pdflatex. It has occured to me that there must be a way to automate this process. Is there an efficient way to export the data from excel and into a LaTeX project, possibly a vba script in excel could run the process? Also, it doesn't have to be LaTeX, I'm not all that experienced with MS office's more advanced features is there some way akin to a mail merge that I could achieve this with? In some ways this might be better in case I have to pass the work on to someone who doesn't know LaTeX. Thanks.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 - Can't connect RDP over the Internet

    I have two networks: Domain and Public, Domain is a VPN connection and Public is the local connection to the network. This is not a domain controller or a DNS/DHCP server. I can connect via RDP from the local network (192.168.1.), from the VPN network (10.1.2.), and from the VPN network over the internet. I cannot connect from the internet (anywhere besides where the server is VPN'd) Wireshark indicates that the server is getting packets, and the audit log is indicating that the packets are being dropped. Advanced Firewall has explicit options to allow RDP, and has no deny policies. I have also tried turning Firewall off completely to no avail. I'm really lost on this one.

  • How to access a field's value in an object using reflection

    My Question: How to overcome an IllegalAccessException to access the value of a an object's field using reflection. Expansion: I'm trying to learn about reflection to make some of my projects more generic. I'm running into an IllegalAccessException when trying to call field.getValue(object) to get the value of that field in that object. I can get the name and type just fine. If I change the declaration from private to public then this works fine. But in an effort to follow the "rules" of encapsulation I don't want to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Will it be fine to handle those many number of rows with MySQL without having any performance degradation? Assume my RAM to be 4 GB and Infinity GB Harddisk space.   • Opening txt files in Internet Explorer 8 parses some html

    I'm not sure if it's just me, but whenever I open .txt files in internet explorer, it always parses the HTML, so forms, buttons, fields all show up. It does this on multiple computers, and I'm fairly sure it hasn't always done this. I know FireFox doesn't, FireFox loads it as a text file. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, have you solved it? If so again, how?

    I am an advanced user, using Windows 7 with Avast! antivirus running. Today I started browsing and faced some weird popup. Upon investigation I found that "Relevant Knowledge" was running in my system. I was able to uninstall it using the Programs Manager and deleted the file's entries in the registry, but I am a little troubled due to the fact that Avast! was not able to detect it; and secondly, how it came into my system. Also, what further prevention measures should I take?

  • How can I make the icon font color on a windows 7 prof desktop work?

    I have C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Scenes\img25.jpg as wallpaper (I think it's a standard windows wallpaper.) The desktop icon font color is white. It cannot be read without heavy eye pain. I want it to be black. I couldn't change the icon font color in advanced properties (ie the good old window color settings dialog) for aero for windows 7 professional x32. I've heard that the icon font color should change automatically to suit my needs, it doesn't work as advertised in my scenario. How could I fix it and rescue my eyes from popping out?   • How can I get the text color of a button using the Substance LaF?

    In my Java application I have to custom-paint a control and for that I need to use the same font colors as JButton. (Enabled an disabled) I don't want to to hard-code them, because the user can change the Substance skin at runtime. I'm aware of the ColorSchemes but I'm not sure how to proceed once I have the color scheme of the current skin. Also the Substance documentation says something about creating your own color scheme, but I just can't figure out the way to retrieve a certain color.
