  • Help analyzing traceroute

    Hello, my name is Abdulla and I'm from Kuwait. Sorry for my question as I know its not technically challenging. I'm facing some problems with my internet connection. My company has a DSL 2mb connection. My main problem is latency, in the morning its good but after that its gets really bad. My Internet provider says there's nothing wrong and that everything is working perfectly. I tried to explain to them the latency issue but they say that as long as I'm getting the download speed there isn't anything I can do about it. I only want to know if this is true and that the company can't do anything before I change my internet provider, as I feel that the guys at the contact center might getting back to me without asking tech support.   • pfSense 2.1 OpenVPN client not using tunnelled interface

    I'm having some trouble getting OpenVPN working on my pfSense box. The issue is quite strange to me. When I have the OpenVPN turned on, only my router is able to connect to the Internet. From the router I can use ping, links, etc., and connections work exactly as expected - through the VPN, with the IP address assigned by my VPN provider (Proxy.sh, incidentally). However, none of the clients on the local network can connect to the Internet. I get timeouts when using ping or a web browser. I can ping my router, and the IP address of the gateway. When I switch the default gateway from the VPN to my ISP's gateway, all works exactly as expected. The default route is through the VPN provider. The VPN address is routed through the ISP-assigned IP address. I am not sure what would be wrong here. So figuring this was a firewall issue, I basically tried enabling all in/out traffic. This did not seem to remedy the problem. Also figuring it could possibly be some client networking issue, I restarted the clients on the LAN. This did not help. I also ran route flush and reset the routes manually. So I am a bit stumped, and would be very grateful for any thoughts on what the problem might be.

  • Elasticsearch won't start anymore

    I restarted my elasticsearch instance 5 days ago and I haven't manage to start it since then. I get no output in the log file /var/log/elasticsearch/ nor does the elasticsearch binary print any information when running at using elasticsearch -f. I once manage to get this output. [2012-11-15 22:51:18,433][INFO ][plugins ] [Piper] loaded [], sites [] Running curl http://localhost:9200 resulted in curl: (7) couldn't connect to host. I've tried increasing the memory from 3gb to 10gb, but that didn't make any diffrence. As in the previous versions, the passwords were not encrypted, then if i had to design some tools to manage the hosting accounts, i just picked up the cleartext passwords from the Database. but as now the passwords are encrypted, is there any way i can decrypt the passwords? through API or any other way so that i can integrate my php based hosting management with plesk 11?

  • High Jitter in NTP and poll value never goes above 128

    I have a lot of servers syncing to the same NTP servers (4). Not every server is in the same LAN. Some are 3 hops away from the NTP servers and some are 6 hops away. On couple of servers I see that the poll value never touches the 1024 mark and the jitter value is in double digits. Could it be due to the system hardware? These are windows servers (physical) and require as accurate time as possible. Please advice what I should do.     In trying to diagnose a failover problem with my Cisco ASA 5520 firewalls, I ran a traceroute to www.btfl.com and, much to my surprise, some of the hops came back as RFC 1918 addresses. Just to be clear, this host is not behind my firewall and there is no VPN involved. I have to connect across the open internet to get there.   • Read floppy from OpenVMS machine

    I have a floppy I need to read the contents from - unfortunately it was formatted and the data written on an OpenVMS server. I believe the floppy is formatted "Files-11" and I can see parts of the MFT [equivalent] and file contents through a hex editor, however I would love to be able to mount this and actually read the files off. Is there a Files-11 FUSE module or other kernel module I can install to read this format? Any standalone utilities that can understand a floppy image taken with dd?

    I have Linux on an embedded system. There is no graphic system, but I still have graphic errors. My CentOS machines have as many as six other users that share the systems, but the mpenning userid is the only one that has this issue. Approximately 5% of my logins see this issue, but no other usernames exhibit this behavior. Questions Given the kind of scripts I keep on these systems (which control much of our network infrastructure), I'm a little spooked by this and would like to understand what would cause my logins to occasionally miss source addresses. Is there anything (other than malicious activity) that would reasonably explain the behavior? Other than bash history timestamping, are there other things I can do to track the issue down? Informational Since this started happening, I enabled bash history time-stamping (i.e. HISTTIMEFORMAT="%y-%m-%d %T " in .bash_profile) and also added a few other bash history hacks; however, that does not give clues to what happened during the previous occurrences. I've been working on this now for a few hours (reading manuals and such) so I'm not just coming here right out of the blue. I am working on a PRE-EXISTING Nagios server where there are several other existing plugins and checks running and working. Now I want to add another server there to check so I made the following modifications: First and foremost, I added a file to /usr/local/nagios/libexec named: check_equallogic.sh. The permissions are 755, the same as all others. I have chowned to nagios:nagios and in the listing it shows the Owner as Nagios. I then added a command to the commands.cfg file in \usr\local\nagios\etc\objects that shows the following: # 'check_equallogic' command definition define command{ command_name check_equallogic command_line $USER1$/check_equallogic -H $HOSTADDRESS$ -C $ARG1$ -t $ARG2$ $ARG3$ } Following this, I created a file named equallogic.cfg in the objects directory and it contains (more or less): define host{ use linux-server ; Inherit default values from a template host_name 172.16.50.11 ; The name we're giving to this device alias EqualLogic ; A longer name associated with the device address 172.16.50.11 ; IP address of the device contact_groups admins } Check Equallogic Information define service{ use generic-service host_name 172.16.50.11 service_description General Information check_command check_equallogic!public!info } After ensuring that permissions are okay for all files, I restart the nagios service, no errors. When I go into the WebGUI, I get the following errors AFTER the check runs: (Return code of 127 is out of bounds - plugin may be missing) Extra, probably unrelated problem Furthermore, when I log into the EquilLogic server, under Audit logs I get the following error: Level: AUDIT Time: 26/05/2014 3:59:13 PM Member: ps4100-1 Subsystem: agent Event ID: 22.7.1 SNMP packet validation failed, request received from 172.16.10.11 An snmpwalk receives a timeout, whereas others succeed. I will work on importing the MIBs tomorrow. The reason why I am mentioning it is because I want to make sure that it is only a MIB issue for the SNMP. If it is, then ignore this area. I am entirely unsure of what to do here.

  • Multiple Graphics Cards on Fedora 15 (Gnome 3)

    I have the (delightful) misfortune of having 3 graphics cards. They are XFX Radeon 5750s. Each drives 2 monitors via dvi. I am having a really hard time getting these running on fedora 15 (gnome 3). So my setup is 3 columns of 2 monitors (the upper monitor is mounted upside down in each column to reduce the bezel between monitors). When the (graphical) login screen comes up all 6 have the blue stripey background that must be the default, but then when I login, things get interesting. In the xorg.conf below, you will see only 2 of the screens in the serverlayout while the other 4 are commented out. Logging in with only 2 of the screens active works well (and it even remembers that the top one is upside down, and should be considered above the lower, i am not sure where it stores this info, but i set it using the graphical "Displays" settings) However, as soon as I uncomment a third screen, or more, it gives me an error message when I login. It's one of those friendly, less helpful messages (Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem has occurred and the system can't recover. Please log out and try again). If i do not use an xorg.conf, then the "Displays" prefs pane shows only the two monitors on one of my graphics cards Thanks to anyone who can help me get going!
