• directory with 980MB meta data, millions of files, how to delete it? (ext3)

  Hello, So I'm stuck with this directory: drwxrwxrwx 2 dan users 980M 2010-12-22 18:38 sessions2 The directories contents is small - just millions of tiny little files. I want to wipe it from the filesystem but have been unable to. My first try was: find sessions2 -type f -delete and find sessions2 -type f -print0 | xargs -0 rm -f but had to stop because both caused escalating memory usage. At one point it was using 65% of the system's memory. So I thought (no doubt incorrectly), that it had to do with the fact that dir_index was enabled on the system. Perhaps find was trying to read the entire index into memory? So I did this (foolishly): tune2fs -O^dir_index /dev/xxx Alright, so that should do it. Ran the find command above again and... same thing. Crazy memory usage. I hurriedly ran tune2fs -Odir_index /dev/xxx to reenable dir_index, and ran to Server Fault! 2 questions: 1) How do I get rid of this directory on my live system? I don't care how long it takes, as long as it uses little memory and little CPU. By the way, using nice find ... I was able to reduce CPU usage, so my problem right now is only memory usage. 2) I disabled dir_index for about 20 minutes. No doubt new files were written to the filesystem in the meanwhile. I reenabled dir_index. Does that mean the system will not find the files that were written before dir_index was reenabled since their filenames will be missing from the old indexes? If so and I know these new files aren't important, can I maintain the old indexes? If not, how do I rebuild the indexes? Can it be done on a live system? Thanks!

• Logging in user in Windows 2008 server using LogonUser fails on LogonType LOGON32_LOGON_SERVICE

  I am using LogonUser function to logon an account to Windows 2008 R2 server on a domain with clusterring. When using LOGON32_LOGON_INTERACTIVE as LogonType, I successfully login. When using LOGON32_LOGON_SERVICE as LogonType, Login fails, EventViewer says: An account failed to log on. Logon Type: 5 Account For Which Logon Failed: Security ID: NULL SID Account Name: thename Account Domain: thedomain Logon ID: 0x1009371c Logon Type: 5 Failure Information: Failure Reason: The user has not been granted the requested logon type at this machine. • Remote Desktop Connection - Connection Failed

  Let me explain the problem. My system is connected to a network and 'was' having XP installed in it. Recently i formatted the system and installed windows server 2003 and added the machine to the network. Everything is working fine like mapping the network drives, pinging the machines etc. But i've the following problems. I'm not able to do a remote desktop connection to another system in the network. Some systems in the network is able to do a remote desktop to my machine. But not all. If i host any web service in my system i'm not able to connect it from any other machine in the network. I've already configured the Remote Desktop to accept connections. Any ideas? NLV

• ssh tunnel error "ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host"

  I'm trying to use an ssh tunnel from my office machine to my home machine, and get an error when I try to use it. What I'm doing is starting one shell like so: ssh -gL 12345:my.home.domain:22 my.home.domain This is giving me a proper shell, no problem. What I normally do then is ssh to my home machine through this office machine, like so: ssh -p 12345 127.0.0.1 This has always worked for me, until last week, when I set up a new system on my home machine (switching from Ubuntu to Debian). Now I get an error. I can still open up my initial ssh connection, but when I try to use that tunnel, I get (on the office machine) this error: ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host Also, when that happens, the open shell that I have the tunnelling set up through gets this line spat out at it: channel 3: open failed: connect failed: Connection timed out At which point, I'm at a loss. If any more info is needed, I'll be happy to post it. ============= further to that ============== After fiddling around further, I've found that I'm getting a different response from the server (my home machine that is) when I try to telnet in on the various ports. If I try: telnet my.home.domain 22 I get this back: Trying <my ip address>... Connected to <my domain>. Escape character is '^]'. SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_5.5p1 Debian-6+squeeze2 Which is what I would expect. After setting up the tunnel though, and then telnetting to that, I see this response: Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to 127.0.0.1. • Emails forwarded via postfix get flagged as spam and forged in Gmail

  I'm trying to setup a forwarding only email server. I'm running into the problem where all messages forwarded via postfix are getting put into gmail's spam folder and getting flagged as forged. I'm testing a very similar setup on a cpanel box and their forwarded emails make it through without any problem. • How to actually defragment a JFFS2 filesystem

  I have searched all over the Internet, including on a number of StackExchange forums, for a workable method for defragmenting a JFFS2 filesystem and cannot find an answer. The system in question has a 256MB NAND flash part. It is being accessed as a MTD device which is divided into three partitions. The third partition is where the root file system is being stored as a JFFS2 file system. The issue is that writes to the root file system have non-deterministic performance due to the usual issues of the JFFS2 garbage collector deciding to run at the worst possible times. When that happens, the product is hung for some unknown length of time while the garbage collector (and pdflush) run. Changing the file system isn't an option. The solution needs to be something that can run during off-hours that after having been run results in more predictable write performance. Right now I am working on a program that will attempt to force the garbage collector to run, then delete the file with the hope that all of the freed nodes are suddenly more readily available and make writes perform better. Thoughts?

  EDIT: I noticed that this is more appropriate for superuser.com, I apologize. I don't know how to delete this question. I'm using kubuntu jaunty (i386 32bit), kernel 2.6.28-13-generic. I've 4Gb of RAM, of which only 3317Mb are seen by the system (I guess because of the 32bit system). I'm seeing that the pagecache utilization is continually growing, up to the point that the system is unusable (after a few days). This happens also when I don't do anything (all user applications closed and the bare minimum of services enabled). If enabled, the system starts to use swap space (using it all in the end). Even if swap is disabled, disk activity becomes continuous, with the system unresponsive. • Radius Authorization against ActiveDirectory and the users file

  I have a problem with my freeradius server configuration. I want to be able to authenticate users against Windows ActiveDirectory (2008 R2) and the users file, because some of my co-workers are not listed in AD. We use the freeradius server to authenticate WLAN users.   I have a KVM virtualization in Debian with 2 guests (Debian and Windows 2008). I want to have a 'mount point' shared that can be accessed by the 3 system (host and 2 guests) at the same time. So the only thing that I found was a NFS/SMB network storage. I picked NFS Due to my Ethernet network (10/100), the speed average that I get between accessing/transfering files between the 3 system is always 8~10MB/s. The point is if is there any chance of get a boost system for sharing files between 3 system (at the same time) without wasting the speed of my SATA disks. I mean, without the Ethernet limitation of 10 MB/s

  Hi, In the DNS I have setup multiple URLs for my website (all pointing to same server). The entries in DNS looks like as below: Host TTL Numeric IP www .mysite.net 7200 192.168.31.12 @ (None) .mysite.net 7200 192.168.31.12 mycompany .mysite.net 7200 192.168.31.12 I wrote a code on Login.aspx page to check the URL and navigate to appropriate company login page. So if I type www.mysite.net or mysite.net then I am getting navigated to standard login page. But when I type mycompany.mysite.net still I am getting navigated to standard login page. But when I type https://mycompany.mysite.net then I am getting navigated to company specific login page. Why I need to type complete URL with https to get navigated to compay specific login page? Why it is not working just with mycompany.mysite.net? Any help of this is highly appriciated. Thanks, Amit

• Testdisk won’t list files for an ext4 partition inside a LVM inside a LUKS partition

  I have accidentally deleted a file that I want to recover. The partition is an ext4 partition inside an LVM partition that is encrypted with dm-crypt/LUKS. The encrypted LUKS partition is: /dev/sda2 which contains a physical volume, with a single volume group, mapped to: /dev/mapper/system And the logical volume, the ext4 partition is mapped to: /dev/mapper/system-home A # testdisk /dev/mapper/system-home will notice it as an ext4 partition but tells me that the partition seems damaged when I try to list the files. If I # testdisk /dev/mapper/system it will detect all the partitions, but the same happens if I try to list their files. Am I doing something wrong or is it a known bug? I have searched but haven’t found any clue.

  I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 box running IIS7.5 with Medium Trust configured for ASP.NET. When I have the website running from local content (e.g.: c:\inetpub\wwwroot) everything works fine. When I change IIS to use a UNC path for the content (e.g.: \\computer\wwwroot) I get the following error: Security Exception Description: The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. To grant this application the required permission please contact your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file. Exception Details: System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. I'm trying to figure out why ASP.NET/IIS would allow for the SQL call when using local content but not when using a UNC path. Any ideas what I need to do to use a UNC path from IIS7 properly?

  I've got a problem with a VIA C3 (1GHz)-system: the system freezes immediately when the CPU frequency goes under 731MHz because of an incompatibility with the (not completely implemented) i686 commands and a powersave feature of the kernel. There is a workaround: deactivate the "longhaul" kernelmodule via alias longhaul off in /etc/modprobe.d/aliases. But the system freezes before I can install any Linux distribution - even Clonezilla freezes. Is there a possibility to deactivate the module with a GRUB boot parameter before the kernel is loaded?

• Setting up multiple servers for one domain

  So I am starting up a new website and I was wondering how to set up 5 servers to host the site. I have already purchased 5 Apple XServes, one will be used as a test server and the other 4 will be for the live site. So I have read some website on the internet and they all reference using one server and installing software onto it and have that server do the load balancing. I have also read that you could use a hardware, rack-mounted system and plug the servers into that. The load balancer would then distribute the load. So I have a few questions about each: 1) How do you set up the software version and have the other servers as "slaves" and have one "master" to direct traffic? 2) Which of the two options above are more reliable, and better suited for a startup that doesn't have many users per month, yet(hopefully)? 3) Is there a theoretical max limit of servers that can be connected to a software load balancing system? Note: Obviously this will change from software to software, but in terms of the server being able to handle it? 4) In your own opinion, what are you using for your sites? Have you had any problems setting up that system or operating it once its running? Are there any things you would stay away from if you had to start over? 5) I also purchased a Apple RAID system, so if you are familiar with it, is there any way to connect it to multiple Xserves so they all serve the same data? I'm a little confused on this, so thanks for all your help and being patient with me. Note: Take it easy on me, I am learning this as I go along, so I may have used terms incorrectly or explained things that don't really make sense. Sorry. P.S. • win7 amd64 guest in kvm does not have sound

  hi, my host system is gentoo amd64, guest system is win 7 amd64. the guest system can work, except it does not have sound. i start kvm with -soundhw ac97, QEMU_AUDIO_DRV='alsa', and after i get into the guest system, i can see a 'Multimedia Audio Controller' in the device manager. but win7 cannot find the driver for it. i searched the network for a long time, and i cannot find a driver for intel ac97 for win7 amd64. i also tried -soundhw sb16, es1370, none of them work. please help me fix this.

In some cases, the hacker may be able to gain root level access to the system, in which case the hacker might be able to cause copious damage to the system, or use the system as a jumping off point to target other systems on the network for intrusion and/or denial of service attacks. and many more related to cgi-bin directory. First I searched all the server for cgi-bin folder and it did not find any. Second I'm running my website on pure .NET and I don't use any scripts like php. Question is how can I remove this CGI thing from the IIS?

  I am connecting to Junos OS on Juniper EX-2200 switches using minicom as shown below minicom -C log_sw1 sw1 Now I have a series of commands that I need to execute on sw1.(example shown below) cli request system zeroize show config show interface edit delete protocols set system arp aging-timer 240 I want to avoid having to type these commands every time I log into the system.I want to put them in a config file and I want the it to be execute every time I log into the switch using minicom. Is there any way I can achieve this?
