• Collabnet Subversion and Self Signed Certificates

  We installed Collabnet as our subversion server recently.  This is the first time that we’ve used it.  In general, it seems pretty good, but we ran into a problem with it.  People were getting the following error in Tortoise: OPTIONS of ’https://xxxx.xxxxxxxx.xxxx/svn/xxxxx’: SSL handshake failed: SSL error code – 1/1/336032856 (https://xxxx.xxxxxxxx.xxxx) The odd thing is that for some people, it worked, for others, it didn’t!  I also couldn’t find anything useful out on the internet. We had checked the Subversion Server should serve via https option in the settings, and all of the ports were open, etc. This option causes a self signed certificate to be used. What we discovered: Tortoise must use the same url as is in the Hostname field on the General settings for collabnet or you’ll get this error.  Basically, some people were using https://svn.xxxxxxx.xxxxx and others were using https://computername.xxxxxxxx.xxxx.  Because the host name said used the computer name version, the whole thing broke.  By changing the host name to the svn version, which is what they should be using, the problem went away.  The users do get the “Accept Certificate” prompt, but we can live with that! • Questions about Domains and DNS

  Hi, I am totally new to the DNS and server hosting world and not quite sure what I need. I want to get a domain, forward it to my own server, so that the user sees example.com in the url bar and example.com/foo/bar will work. Depending on what subdomain it is, it should do different things (another base-directory at webserver, ftp, etc). Also my email should be able to be sent to and received by that server. What irritates me, is the fact, that in the A-record I can only list IP-addresses and no ports. So do I have to set up a nameserver on my own server? Or do I accomplish this via vhosts on my webserver? I would appreciate any help or link to a tutorial. I know how DNS works, know some basic apache-stuff, etc... so no need to explain that. Thanks

• What tools can be used to monitor a web application? Beyond "doesn't 404"

  I have an internal web application that has recently gone through a major version upgrade. I would like to monitor this application over the weekend and look for 'soft' errors. I will still need to spot check things by hand, but there are some common failure patterns that I think I can automate. Examples include data with bad formatting, blank rows in tables (indicates missing non-critical data), patterns for identifiers ("TEST" means one of my devs left a testing feed on), etc. I think there are applications out there that can be scripted to do things like: 1. log in 2. Go to $URL 3. select 3rd link in $LIST or $PATTERN 4. Check HTML from that link for $PATTERNS 5. Email report Are these goals sane? What applications/tools can help with this?

• Applying flattened css to xhtml

  Hi, I try to apply flattened css to xhtml (which get from websites). I am using css4j-0.12.1.jar (from http://www.informatica.info/projects/css/) to process the url html content. For a few urls the code seems to be hang. Even no exception is thrown. For a particular stylableelement or style code doesnot return any value and hangs. For a few websites code hang in, CSSStyleDeclaration.getPropertyValue(style); and for a few websites code hang in, CSSStylableElement.getComputedStyle(); I am using the latest jar. Could you please update me, is there any known issue or fix for this. I am not sure where to post this issue. If anyone knows please update me. Thanks in Advance.

  I have the following virtual host on my development server: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName example.com DocumentRoot /srv/web/example.com/pub <Directory /srv/web/example.com/pub> Order Deny,Allow Deny from all Allow from 192.168.0.3 </Directory> </VirtualHost> The Allow from 192.168.0.3 part is to only allow requests from my workstation machine. I want to tweak this to allow anyone to request a certain URL: http://example.com/public/file.html How do I change this to allow /public/file.html requests to get through from anyone? Note: /public/file.html doesn't actually exist as a file on the server. I redirect all incoming requests through a single index file using mod_rewrite.

• How to remove the dlinksearch browser search hijack

  Hi Gang, For the last few weeks all the machines on my home network are having the same problem whilst browsing the internet. When the user enters an invalid URL in the browser address bar, instead of the default browser behaviour, the request is sent to http://www1.dlinksearch.com/. As far as I can tell this is all machines and all browsers. It is so consistent I am wondering whether it has anything to do with our router. We use a DLink DIR-655 router so maybe the clue is in the name :) Anyhow, I cannot figure out how to disable/remove the offending behaviour. I've checked hosts files, spyware, AV etc. etc. Anybody have any ideas? Paul P.S. Apologies if this is not the right place to ask this type of question. I'm a bit stuck

So if I have www.abc.co.uk/foo/bar/sheep/page.html I want it to redirect to www.abc.co.uk/bar/sheep/page.html. Is this possible. Sometime I may have a URL like www.abc.co.uk/foo/bar/foo/page.html so this would become www.abc.co.uk/bar/foo/page.html. Only the first instance of foo would be rewritten.

  I have a PowerShell script that deploys about 12 web parts. They have all been created through Visual Studio 2010 and are being deployed to SharePoint 2010. Can someone help me debug this? Every other Install-SPSolution command uses -AllWebApplications, and I do not want to specify the web application directly using -URL. Instead of the downloading the requested file, it downloads a HTML file that says, "Authentication Required!" I'm not sure what the problem is. I've tried both of these (with the same result). • firefox addons and their silly news tabs

  Something like 30% of the addons I have in firefox update every other week and feel the need to pop open a tab about how awesome they are and all the cool things they changed. I just don't care at all and I'm very annoyed by these news tabs. When firefox opens, I want to see my home page. I've been looking for an addon to disable or kill them before I even have to look at them. Rather like addblock-for-addons. Short of finding a plugin that disables them, I'm seeking information about common interfaces so I can try to figure it out on my own. I'm wondering if I could do it in greasemonkey somehow. For example, is there something common about the url for the tabs?

  Problem: When printing a report in CRM, I am asked by the UAC for admin credentials. They are not admins of any kind. It looks like it is asking for permission to allow SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 to run. When I put my credentials in, it just brings up the Print dialog box (this is fine, just stop asking for credentials). I know this might sound silly but I downloaded and installed "SQL Server Reporting Services 2008" hopping my credentials would give permission right from the beginning. Giving the users local admin, I was told is not an option. Note: I did post this on community (dot) dynamics (dot) com but, they are not a very active website. • Keeping files that are often changed in sync between desktop and laptop

  I'm looking for a way to keep a desktop and a laptop in sync. What I want to keep in sync are some folders, mainly ~/Documents, that are changed often when working on them. If it matters I can connect to my desktop from anywhere via an URL but my laptop is harder to access since it might be behind NAT and such. I have been looking at Ubuntu One but it seems to not go well with working on documents written in LaTeX. If I work on a .tex file in the Ubuntu One directory and compile it (with pdflatex) every now and then (as often as every 10 sec when working) it will create several new files including a pdf which are uploaded to Ubuntu One and this seems stupid since it will create continuous upload when working on .tex files. I also usually keep .tex documents version controlled by git and then every commit (which also can happen frequently) will cause upload (by changes in ./.git) so that it happens continuously when working. Another example is editing images that are saved often. What I think would be best is for sync to happen every tenth minute or at the end of every working session (but there might be some other way to handle this?).

  For work, I have to develop in Visual Studio, which I run via VMware's fusion 5. I really want to test via my mac's native browsers for a multitude of reasons. that is, view the IIs web stuffs that my windows VM should expose, in my mac's own native Firefox, Chrome... etc. if i could expose a pretty url, that would be even better, but i would certainly settle for an ugly IP :) I got a decent number of views but no response when I asked in VMware's own boards. Everyone seems to want to go the other direction (developing in sublimetext/textmate serving up through MAMP and exposing it to windows browsers to test) and there seems to be tried a true solutions for this. unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your preference) my startup is pretty entrenched in the visual studio development tools. I'm really hoping that someone knows the answer to this. Thanks :)

• SSL Certificate Stops Working after Server Reboot on IIS7, W2K8

  We recently upgraded from W2K3/IIS6 to W2K8/IIS7 and have been having problems with our SSL Certificate (Thawte 123 SSL certificate) ceasing to work after rebooting. Initially, the intermediate certificates would stop working and we could repair the problem by reinstalling all of them after the reboot (annoying, but not the end of the world). Unfortunately, this is no longer working. The certificate chain has been doublechecked by several tools and people with decent knowledge but no one has been able to identify the cause of the problem. The bindings in IIS have been checked as well The cert itself is also still valid. NOTE 1: I have seen THIS question which seems to be very similar, but there is no satisfactory answer in that post and it's a year old so not likely to get one any time soon. • Should I cache the data or hit the database?

  I have not worked with any caching mechanisms and was wondering what my options are in the .net world for the following scenario. We basically have a a REST Service where the user passes an ID of a Category (think folder) and this category may have lots of sub categories and each of the sub categories could have 1000 of media containers (think file reference objects) which contain information about a file that may be on a NAS or SAN server (files are videos in this case). The relationship between these categories is stored in a database together with some permission rules and meta data about the sub categories. So from a UI perspective we have a lazy loaded tree control which is driven by the user by clicking on each sub folder (think of Windows explorer). Once they come to a URL of the video file, they then can watch the video. The number of users could grow into the 1000s and the sub categories and videos could be in the 10000s as the system grows. The question is should we carry on the way it is currently working where each request hits the database or should we think about caching the data? We are on using IIS 6/7 and Asp.net.

• Diagnosing Bootstrap 3 Glyphicon Button Icons Not Showing

  I have a glyphicons in Bootstrap 3. They work very nicely here: latest Chrome latest Firefox latest Safari latest Explorer latest Android At one facility, the glyphicons don't show. The buttons come up blank. How do I troubleshoot? They are security sensitive there. I don't have systems or network access.. and am not in a position to request that. Troubleshooting with advanced tools isn't going to happen. Here's what I have access to: Internet Explorer 9 Behind a very secure firewall Sometimes, I think the glyphs not showing is the IE 9.. but my code should be addressing that. Sometimes, I think their firewall is blocking the CDN. Can I enter a URL into a browser to test if the CDN is there? Sometimes, I think my FB share and like buttons upset this facilty's firewall, and they tie the whole thing down. Any suggestions at how I begin to research this? Or maybe you have an outright idea for IE 9 and glyphs (though my code is very-very close to the demo's which work).

• One site being on a subdirectory of another. Does google count this against you?

  I have created two similar websites (relating to monetary systems). So far, one appears to be loved by Google and the other hated. I'm struggling to work out why. This is a mystery to me because both sites were created by me with the same design philosophy, both in pure html. Both are packed to the rafters with references to, and information about, their respective subjects. One issue I'm worried may be the cause is to do with the location of the sites. I got a web hosting package from hostmonster.com for the successful one, but less liked one is just an "add-on" which sits on a subdirectory of the successful one. I wonder if Google somehow detects this and treats it as a less significant website? EDIT: Just to clarify, even though one site is an add-on that sits on a subdirectory of the other, the URL is arranged to look like it is a root. I.e. the unpopular site can be accessed directly with a simple www.myunpopularsite.com name, without specifying any subdirectory. EDIT: Just in case its important... say the popular site is called pop.com and the unpopular one unpop.com. In the webspace I've purchased, there is a directory called public_html. This is where I put the index.htm and all the other files of my popular site. When I purchased the add-on unpop.com. I made a subdirectory of public_html called unpop. It is within this "public_html\unpop\" that I place the index.htm and all the other files of my unpopular site. Typing www.unpop.com into the address bar of a browser links directly to the contents of "public_html\unpop\" and the user is not aware that this site is sitting on a subdirectory of another site. BUT if you type "www.pop.com/unpop" into the address bar of a browser you DO see the unpopular site.
