• Why does casting to double using "String * 1" fail? Will CDbl(String) work on all systems?

  I have an application which contains the line below to assign a parsed XML value to a variant array. V(2) = latNode.Text * 1 This works fine on my system (Windows 7, Excel 2010) but doesn't work on some other system or systems - and I've not been able to get a response from the user who reported the problem. I've switched out the offending line for: V(2) = CDbl(latNode.Text) This still works on my system, but then I had no problem in the first place. The question is on what systems does the first approach fail and why, and will the second method always work? I'm sure I've used the "Stying * 1" trick elsewhere before and would like to know how concerned I should be about tracking down other occurrences. Thanks.

• What causes Python "Interpreter not Initialized" error?

  I'm now on my third full day this week of trying to get OpenCV to work with Python. (I have been trying on and off for the past 6 months). I get this error Python 2.7.1 (r271:86882M, Nov 30 2010, 10:35:34) [GCC 4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build 5664)] on darwin Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. dlopen("/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/lib/python2.7/lib-dynload/readline.so", 2); import readline # dynamically loaded from /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/lib/python2.7/lib-dynload/readline.so >>> import cv dlopen("./cv.so", 2); Fatal Python error: Interpreter not initialized (version mismatch?) and then it crashes (core dumps). python -v gives nothing after the dlopen. Any ideas from anyone who actually knows about this error?

  I'm developing an .NET4 webapplication using MVC3. Let's say i'm getting the following DateTime as string from an XML-feed. The xml feed is being read by my application and i'm looping through all it's descendants. The DateTime i'm receiving is begin returned in the following format (as string); var myDateTime = "Sun Dec 19 11:45:45 +0000 2010" I'm using the piece of code below to try and parse the DateTime string i mentioned above to a valid DateTime format (preferably dutch) var CorrectDateTime = DateTime.ParseExact(myDateTime , "dd MMM yyyy HH:mm:ss", CultureInfo.InvariantCulture); When trying to execute this code i'm facing an formatexception. Somebody has got any ideas?

• Need CSS Help with a hover element - cant extend to left and right of page

  Hi there, Need some CSS guru help. If you visit my link: http://www.gabbr.com/js/viewer/cmedata/index1.html and hover over the years (top middles, 2008, 2009, 2010, etc) you will notice an orange bar extending from the top to the bottom of the page. I am trying to get the same effect on the left (month and day) but am unable to do so. The problem I am having is that I cannot get the orange hover bar to extend off the left of the screen for either #dayleft or for #monthleft. It extends all the way to the right margin of the screen but not the left. The problem is the margin-left: 15px; in #monthleft and margin-left: 80px; in #dayleft. But I cannot get rid of these since I require them for the letter spacing. Any advice?

• Edit strings vars in compiled exe? C++ win32

  I want to have a few strings in my c++ app and I want to be able to edit them later in the deployed applications (the compiled exe), Is there a way to make the exe edit itself or it resources so I can update the strings value? The app checks for updates on start, so I'm thinking about using that to algo send the command when I need to edit the strings (for example the string that contains the url used to check for updates). I don't want to use anything external to the exe, I could simply use the registry but I prefer to keep everything inside the exe. I am using visual studio 2010 c++ (or any other version of ms visual c++).

  Hi all, I am relatively new to C++ and need to use a library for the first time. I was hoping someone would be able to show me how to properly [ link to / include ] the library. • Compiz cube issues since upgrading to 12.10. The caps and 3d windows are all over the place.

  I think it's due to residual settings from the old reflection and deformation plug in. I've attempted a complete reset of the settings and still no go though. The cube caps stay black and glitch out when I spin it etc and I see multiple copies of each window. It's like it's trying to display the "inside the cube" setting and the regular just floating 3d window at the same time. Here's one example (rep isn't high enough yet for fancy img imbed, sorry) http://i.stack.imgur.com/rrbBd.jpg Any ideas? I'm trying this on my desktop which is using an NVIDIA 8800 GTS card. I also tried it on an older laptop that uses an intel card and same deal. I think maybe I can use the dconftool and try to see if there are still settings from the deformation and reflection plug in causing this. Unless someone knows how to get that back (either a beta or an old version) somehow?

• WPF C#: Starting crash due to client 'Region and Language' settings

  Hi, I'm working on a WPF C# application, and it seems to crash with a few random people. So eventually I found out it was the 'Region and Language' settings that was responsible. For example, if I were to set my Format to English (United States) it will work, if I set it to Swedish (Sweden) it will crash from the start. When I test this in Visual Studio 2010 it gives error 'TypeInitializationException'. More precisely it does it here (it doesn't get passed the InitializeComponent() void): private void RadioButton_Checked(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { Info.SortOrder = SortBy.Rank; } It claims the error at the first line, which is just setting an enum value to a variable. I guess it's just doing it there because it's the first thing it makes, or something. Anyone has any idea how to fix this? I've searched around but can't seem to find out how :( Any help is much appreciated! Thanks

  RFC1123 defines a number of things, among them, the format of Dates to be used in internet protocols. HTTP (RFC2616) specifies that date formats must be generated in conformance with RFC1123. It looks like this: Date: Wed, 28 Apr 2010 02:31:05 GMT How can I generate an RFC1123 time string from C code, running on Windows? I don't have the use of C# and DateTime.ToString(). I know I could write the code myself, to emit timezones and day abbreviations, but I'm hoping this already exists in the Windows API. Thanks.

  Say, I have an array with months $months = array('Jan', 'Feb', 'Mar'...'Dec'); And another, with days (say, for year 2010) $mdays = array(31, 28, 31...31); I want to merge/combine these two arrays, into an array like this: $monthdetails[0] = ('month' => 'Jan', 'days' => 31) $monthdetails[1] = ('month' => 'Feb', 'days' => 28) ... $monthdetails[11] = ('month' => 'Dec', 'days' => 31) I can loop through both the arrays and fill the $monthdetails.   I am having some problems creating a query that gives me the average of a sum. I read a few examples here in stackoverflow and couldn't do it. Can anyone help me to understand how to do this please? This is the data I have: Basically I need the average transaction value by cashier. I can't run a basic avg because it will take all rows but each transaction can have multiple rows. At the end I want to have: Cashier| Average| 131 | 44.31 |(Which comes from the sum divided by 3 transactions not 5 rows) 130 | 33.15 | etc. This is the query I have to SUM the transactions but don't know how or where to include the AVG function.   I'am using Visual Studio 2010, how to set or automatically change owner of the output file from Visual Studio (such as executable file) to user other than administrator? all output files currently is owned by Administrator (due to Visual studio is launch by administrative privilege), so sometime I can't delete those files due to access permissions. sometime visual studio itself can't delete it too (after i ran the executable) until few minutes, its really annoying when I need to rebuild those executable. anyone know what's the actual problem here? error message is : error LNK1168: cannot open [path to file].exe for writing

• Missing type or namespace name

  This is an odd one, not one I've come across before. My project complies and runs fine if I have my classes in the root folder (Not in App_Code). As soon as I move them into the App_Code folder then it will compile, but running it will bring up the old CS0234: The type or namespace name 'Linq' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Data' (are you missing an assembly reference?) I don't understand how moving the class(es) to the App_Code folder causes the whole thing to fall apart there? Project target is .Net 4 on VWD 2010 Express

• Ignore designer and generated files in Resharper analysis

  I've been using Resharper for a few days and I really like this tool, but there's one thing that annoys me about it and I wonder if it can be changed. I'm getting lots of issue notifications from generated code (almost 1400 in my project). I'd want to set those files as ignored so they won't be checked as you can do with StyleCop and CodeAnalysis. Unfortunatelly it looks like Resharper ignores Generated Code settings from it's options because I'm still getting the same notifications. I've tried setting a file mask (i.e. for *.resx) and add files manually to generated, but still it doesn't change anything. I don't know if it matters but I'm using VS 2010.
