• frequent "SNMP error" with Cacti

  When adding new devices to my Cacti instance, I get frequent "SNMP error" messages in the device screen. But the error is not consistent, not even for the same device. Here's what I already have checked: Sometimes a device shows that "SNMP error" message even when it did not had that error an hour before, and vice versa. I tried this with several different Cacti releases, installed on different OS (Debian squeeze: 0.8.7g-1+squeeze1, Debian Sid: 0.8.7i-3, CentOS 6.0: 0.8.7i-2.el6) tried both from a local (192.168.1.xy) network and from a different data center so I don't think it is a network problem reinstalled the Cacti database, rerun the scripts to install my devices. Now different devices have that error when executing a snmpwalk or snmpgetnext command from the command line, it is always successful increasing the timeout to 20000 (20 seconds) and the retry count to 10 does not make a difference The cacti.log says: 04/14/2012 02:10:19 PM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] WARNING: SNMP GetNext Timeout for Host:'s0026.mydomain.de', and OID:'.1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0' 04/14/2012 02:10:20 PM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] WARNING: SNMP GetNext Timeout for Host:'s0026.mydomain.de', and OID:'.1.3' However, when executing snmpget or snmpget with that from the command line a proper response is returned immediately.

• Excel VBA: select every other cell in a row range to be copied and pasted vertically

  i have a 2200+ page text file. It is delivered from a customer through a data exchange to us with astericks to separate values and tildes (~) to denote the end of a row. The file is sent to me as a text file in Word. Most rows are split in two (1 row covers a full line and part of a second line). i transfer segments (10 page chunks) of it at a time into Excel where, unfortunately, any zeroes that occur at the end of a row get discarded in the "text to columns" procedure. So, i eyeball every "long" row to insure that zeroes were not lost and manually re-enter any that were. Here is a small bit of sample data: SDQ EA 92 1551 378 1601 151 1603 157 1604 83 The "SDQ, EA, and 92" are irrelevant (artifacts of data transmission). i want to use Excel VBA to select 1551, 1601, 1603, and 1604 (these are store numbers) so that i can copy those values and transpose paste them vertically. i will then go back and copy 378, 151, 157, and 83 (sales values) so that i can transpose paste them next to the store numbers. The next two rows of data contain the same store numbers but give the corresponding dollar values. i will only need to copy the dollar values so they can be transpose pasted vertically next to unit values (e.g. 378, 151, 157, and 83). Just being able to put my cursor on the first cell of interest in the row and run a macro to copy every other cell would speed up my work tremendously. i have tried using activecell and offset references to select a range to copy but have not been successful. Does any have any suggestions for me? Thanks in advance for the help.

• Trying to install ffmpeg-php and having installation issues.

  I've installed ffmpeg successfully using the ffmpeginstaller 3 series (http://www.ffmpeginstaller.com/download). ffmpeg is working fine without any known issues with bash. The ffmpeginstaller is meant to install ffmpeg-php but it cannot be found and I receive an error when I execute php -v PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib64/php/modules/ffmpeg.so' - /usr/lib64/php/modules/ffmpeg.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0 Looking at the '/usr/lib64/php/modules/' folder, it doesn't contain the ffmpeg.so file. I've tried to install ffmpeg-php manually but I receive the following error checking for ffmpeg headers... configure: error: ffmpeg headers not found. Make sure you've built ffmpeg as shared libs using the --enable-shared option Should I install ffmpeg with series 4 or 5 of ffmpeginstaller or does someone know how to fix this issue? • Why does bash sometimes think my $HOME isn't the correct directory?

  Like the title says it seems that bash sometimes misidentifies my $HOME. This cropped up after a seemingly unique series of events that I will now replay in broad strokes. Running OS X 10.6 with normal, local account Work binds my account to Active Directory Much time passes with no issues Set up rvm to manage Ruby installs (this becomes important later) Upgraded to OS X 10.7 a few days ago After successful install, attempted to log in, was presented with "Must reset password" dialog that never allowed a password to be reset. Would simply shake the box after new password was entered. Much googling was done. Much more googling was done. Swearing was had. Logged in as root, created new account, set as admin, deleted /Users/[new account], renamed /Users/[old account] to /Users/[new account] Logged out of root, logged into new account with no issues After OS X asking for a my account password a few times to update Keychain and other system-level stuff it was back to business as usual. Opened Terminal, cd to project folder, tried "rails server" and was presented with: /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/rubygems/dependency.rb:247:in to_specs': Could not find rails (>= 0) amongst [] (Gem::LoadError) from /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/rubygems/dependency.rb:256:into_spec' from /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/rubygems.rb:1210:in gem' from /usr/local/bin/rails:18:in' Ran through a few exercises, decided to rm -rf ~/.rvm and reinstall. Running a --trace on the rvm installer shows it dies on this line: mkdir: /Users/[old account]: Permission denied Scrolling back through the --trace log I see many more mentions of /Users/[old account]. When inspect the install script the offending line is looking at "${HOME}/.rvm" as it tries to run the mkdir. To my confusion I also see mentions of /Users/[new account] in the log. I've tried exporting a new HOME in my .bash_profile to no luck. Can anyone guess why /Users/[old account] would still be kicking around?

  The goal of this blog entry is to describe how you can work with data in a Metro style application written with JavaScript. In particular, we create a super simple Task List application which enables you to create and delete tasks. Here’s a video which demonstrates how the Task List application works: In order to build this application, I had to take advantage of several features of the WinJS library and technologies including: IndexedDB – The Task List application stores data in an IndexedDB database. HTML5 Form Validation – The Task List application uses HTML5 validation to ensure that a required field has a value. ListView Control – The Task List application displays the tasks retrieved from the IndexedDB database in a WinJS ListView control. Creating the IndexedDB Database The Task List application stores all of its data in an IndexedDB database named TasksDB. This database is opened/created with the following code: var db; var req = window.msIndexedDB.open("TasksDB", 1); req.onerror = function () { console.log("Could not open database"); }; req.onupgradeneeded = function (evt) { var newDB = evt.target.result; newDB.createObjectStore("tasks", { keyPath: "id", autoIncrement:true }); }; The msIndexedDB.open() method accepts two parameters: the name of the database to open and the version of the database to open. If a database with a matching version already exists, then calling the msIndexedDB.open() method opens a connection to the existing database. If the database does not exist then the upgradeneeded event is raised. You handle the upgradeneeded event to create a new database. In the code above, the upgradeneeded event handler creates an object store named “tasks” (An object store roughly corresponds to a database table). When you add items to the tasks object store then each item gets an id property with an auto-incremented value automatically. The code above also includes an error event handler. If the IndexedDB database cannot be opened or created, for whatever reason, then an error message is written to the Visual Studio JavaScript Console window. Displaying a List of Tasks The TaskList application retrieves its list of tasks from the tasks object store, which we created above, and displays the list of tasks in a ListView control. Deleting Existing Tasks The Task List application enables you to select one or more tasks by clicking or tapping on one or more tasks in the ListView. When you click the Delete button, the selected tasks are removed from both the IndexedDB database and the ListView. For example, in the following screenshot, two tasks are selected. When the task is removed from the ListView, an animation is used to collapse the tasks which appear above and below the task which was removed. The Complete Code Above, I did a lot of jumping around between different files in the application and I left out sections of code. • URL Rewrite – Protocol (http/https) in the Action

  IIS URL Rewrite supports server variables for pretty much every part of the URL and http header. However, there is one commonly used server variable that isn’t readily available.  That’s the protocol—HTTP or HTTPS. You can easily check if a page request uses HTTP or HTTPS, but that only works in the conditions part of the rule.  There isn’t a variable available to dynamically set the protocol in the action part of the rule.  What I wish is that there would be a variable like {HTTP_PROTOCOL} which would have a value of ‘HTTP’ or ‘HTTPS’.  There is a server variable called {HTTPS}, but the values of ‘on’ and ‘off’ aren’t practical in the action.  You can also use {SERVER_PORT} or {SERVER_PORT_SECURE}, but again, they aren’t useful in the action. Let me illustrate.  The following rule will redirect traffic for http(s)://localtest.me/ to http://www.localtest.me/. <rule name="Redirect to www"> <match url="(.*)" /> <conditions> <add input="{HTTP_HOST}" pattern="^localtest\.me$" /> </conditions> <action type="Redirect" url="http://www.localtest.me/{R:1}" /> </rule> The problem is that it forces the request to HTTP even if the original request was for HTTPS. Interestingly enough, I planned to blog about this topic this week when I noticed in my twitter feed yesterday that Jeff Graves, a former colleague of mine, just wrote an excellent blog post about this very topic.  He beat me to the punch by just a couple days.  However, I figured I would still write my blog post on this topic.  While his solution is a excellent one, I personally handle this another way most of the time.  Plus, it’s a commonly asked question that isn’t documented well enough on the web yet, so having another article on the web won’t hurt. I can think of four different ways to handle this, and depending on your situation you may lean towards any of the four.  Don’t let the choices overwhelm you though.  Let’s keep it simple, Option 1 is what I use most of the time, Option 2 is what Jeff proposed and is the safest option, and Option 3 and Option 4 need only be considered if you have a more unique situation.  All four options will work for most situations. Option 1 – CACHE_URL, single rule There is a server variable that has the protocol in it; {CACHE_URL}.  This server variable contains the entire URL string (e.g. http://www.localtest.me:80/info.aspx?id=5)  All we need to do is extract the HTTP or HTTPS and we’ll be set. This tends to be my preferred way to handle this situation. Indeed, Jeff did briefly mention this in his blog post: … you could use a condition on the CACHE_URL variable and a back reference in the rewritten URL. The problem there is that you then need to match all of the conditions which could be a problem if your rule depends on a logical “or” match for conditions. Thus the problem.  If you have multiple conditions set to “Match Any” rather than “Match All” then this option won’t work.  However, I find that 95% of all rules that I write use “Match All” and therefore, being the lazy administrator that I am I like this simple solution that only requires adding a single condition to a rule.  The caveat is that if you use “Match Any” then you must consider one of the next two options. Enough with the preamble.  Here’s how it works.  Add a condition that checks for {CACHE_URL} with a pattern of “^(.+)://” like so: How you have a back-reference to the part before the ://, which is our treasured HTTP or HTTPS.  In URL Rewrite 2.0 or greater you can check the “Track capture groups across conditions”, make that condition the first condition, and you have yourself a back-reference of {C:1}. The “Redirect to www” example with support for maintaining the protocol, will become: <rule name="Redirect to www" stopProcessing="true"> <match url="(.*)" /> <conditions trackAllCaptures="true"> <add input="{CACHE_URL}" pattern="^(.+)://" /> <add input="{HTTP_HOST}" pattern="^localtest\.me$" /> </conditions> <action type="Redirect" url="{C:1}://www.localtest.me/{R:1}" /> </rule> It’s not as easy as it would be if Microsoft gave us a built-in {HTTP_PROTOCOL} variable, but it’s pretty close. I also like this option since I often create rule examples for other people and this type of rule is portable since it’s self-contained within a single rule. Option 2 – Using a Rewrite Map For a safer rule that works for both “Match Any” and “Match All” situations, you can use the Rewrite Map solution that Jeff proposed.  It’s a perfectly good solution with the only drawback being the ever so slight extra effort to set it up since you need to create a rewrite map before you create the rule.  In other words, if you choose to use this as your sole method of handling the protocol, you’ll be safe. After you create a Rewrite Map called MapProtocol, you can use “{MapProtocol:{HTTPS}}” for the protocol within any rule action.  Following is an example using a Rewrite Map. <rewrite> <rules> <rule name="Redirect to www" stopProcessing="true"> <match url="(.*)" /> <conditions trackAllCaptures="false"> <add input="{HTTP_HOST}" pattern="^localtest\.me$" /> </conditions> <action type="Redirect" url="{MapProtocol:{HTTPS}}://www.localtest.me/{R:1}" /> </rule> </rules> <rewriteMaps> <rewriteMap name="MapProtocol"> <add key="on" value="https" /> <add key="off" value="http" /> </rewriteMap> </rewriteMaps> </rewrite> Option 3 – CACHE_URL, Multi-rule If you have many rules that will use the protocol, you can create your own server variable which can be used in subsequent rules. This option is no easier to set up than Option 2 above, but you can use it if you prefer the easier to remember syntax of {HTTP_PROTOCOL} vs. {MapProtocol:{HTTPS}}. The potential issue with this rule is that if you don’t have access to the server level (e.g. in a shared environment) then you cannot set server variables without permission. First, create a rule and place it at the top of the set of rules.  You can create this at the server, site or subfolder level.  However, if you create it at the site or subfolder level then the HTTP_PROTOCOL server variable needs to be approved at the server level.  This can be achieved in IIS Manager by navigating to URL Rewrite at the server level, clicking on “View Server Variables” from the Actions pane, and added HTTP_PROTOCOL. If you create the rule at the server level then this step is not necessary.  Following is an example of the first rule to create the HTTP_PROTOCOL and then a rule that uses it.  The Create HTTP_PROTOCOL rule only needs to be created once on the server. <rule name="Create HTTP_PROTOCOL"> <match url=".*" /> <conditions logicalGrouping="MatchAll" trackAllCaptures="false"> <add input="{CACHE_URL}" pattern="^(.+)://" /> </conditions> <serverVariables> <set name="HTTP_PROTOCOL" value="{C:1}" /> </serverVariables> <action type="None" /> </rule>   <rule name="Redirect to www" stopProcessing="true"> <match url="(.*)" /> <conditions logicalGrouping="MatchAll" trackAllCaptures="false"> <add input="{HTTP_HOST}" pattern="^localtest\.me$" /> </conditions> <action type="Redirect" url="{HTTP_PROTOCOL}://www.localtest.me/{R:1}" /> </rule> Option 4 – Multi-rule Just to be complete I’ll include an example of how to achieve the same thing with multiple rules. I don’t see any reason to use it over the previous examples, but I’ll include an example anyway.  Note that it will only work with the “Match All” setting for the conditions. <rule name="Redirect to www - http" stopProcessing="true"> <match url="(.*)" /> <conditions logicalGrouping="MatchAll" trackAllCaptures="false"> <add input="{HTTP_HOST}" pattern="^localtest\.me$" /> <add input="{HTTPS}" pattern="off" /> </conditions> <action type="Redirect" url="http://www.localtest.me/{R:1}" /> </rule> <rule name="Redirect to www - https" stopProcessing="true"> <match url="(.*)" /> <conditions logicalGrouping="MatchAll" trackAllCaptures="false"> <add input="{HTTP_HOST}" pattern="^localtest\.me$" /> <add input="{HTTPS}" pattern="on" /> </conditions> <action type="Redirect" url="https://www.localtest.me/{R:1}" /> </rule> Conclusion Above are four working examples of methods to call the protocol (HTTP or HTTPS) from the action of a URL Rewrite rule.  You can use whichever method you most prefer.  I’ve listed them in the order that I favor them, although I could see some people preferring Option 2 as their first choice.  In any of the cases, hopefully you can use this as a reference for when you need to use the protocol in the rule’s action when writing your URL Rewrite rules.   I have defined a function in vim to properly indent folds. Ie so they look like this: Unfolded this is text also text indented text indented text not indented text folded with default function this is text also text +-- 2 lines: indented text ---------------------------- not indented text folded with my new function this is text also text ++- 2 lines: indented text ---------------------------- not indented text The only problem is the the highlighting is still like this: folded with my new function (highlighting shown with tag) this is text also text <hi> ++- 2 lines: indented text ----------------------------</hi> not indented text I would like the highlighting to start at the ++ and not at the beginning of the line. I have looked in the vim manual but could not find anything like that. One so-so solution I found was to make the background black. highlight Folded ctermbg=black ctermfg=white cterm=bold But this make folds less visible. I have tried several variations of: syn keyword Folded lines syn region Folded ... But I don't think that this is the way that folds are selected. Can anyone offer a suggestion? I've scoured the Internet looking for answers all day, but to no avail. Does anyone have ANY insight into what is causing my problems.

• Application losing Printer within Terminal Services for remote users

  Question: What I need to do is have a permanent link to a printer, normally only accessible through Terminal Services (Printer Redirect), to allow Sage Line 50 layouts to see that printer persistently, even after users have disconnected and reconnected to the Terminal Services session? Although the printer is accessible each time a user connects to the Sage Server via Terminal Services, it is given a different session number and therefore the Sage Layout sees it as a different printer. History behind question: Users using Terminal Services connecting to a Sage Server on a different site Using Sage Line 50 v 15 on that Server Users want to print invoices (sage layouts) locally Sage Server cannot see the users local printers, to get around this user uses the Print redirect features of Terminal Services The individual reports can be edited to point to a specific printer by default. This means the user just has to select an invoice and click print, then select the layout/report wanted and it auto prints that invoice to the default printer specified. The problem occurs because the layouts are edited to point to the users local printer "Ricoh 1018d (session#)", note the "(session#)" as this is the users local printer being redirected through the terminal services session. Users are able to print using the sage layouts once the default printer is setup within the layout and saved, but as soon as the users disconnects from the Terminal Services session and then reconnect in the morning go to print, it has lost the connection to that printer. I understand why its failed, because that the printer is on a per session basis and the layout would not be able to hold on to the connection from a previous session. • Windows Server 2008 Create Symbolic Link, updated Security Policy still gives privilege error

  Windows Server 2008, RC2. I am trying to create a symbolic/soft link using the mklink command: mklink /D LinkName TargetDir e.g. c:\temp\>mklink /D foo bar This works fine if I run the command line as Administrator. However, I need it to work for regular users as well, because ultimately I need another program (executing as a user) to be able to do this. So, I updated the Local Security Policy via secpol.msc. Under "Local Policies" "User Rights Management" "Create symbolic links", I added "Users" to the security setting. I rebooted the machine. It still didn't work. So I added "Everyone" to the policy. Rebooted. And STILL it didn't work. What on earth am I doing wrong here? I think my user is even an Administrator on this box, and running plain command line even with this updated policy in place still gives me: You do not have sufficient privilege to perform this operation.

  Ah, confusion. I'm trying to install a python library called lxml as needed by a python script. I've been through numerous SU quesitons and answers. I haven't been able to make much progress. • Bash script 'while read' loop causes 'broken pipe' error when run with GNU Parallel

  According to the GNU Parallel mailing list this is not a GNU Parallel-specific problem. They suggested that I post my problem here. The error I'm getting is a "broken pipe" error, but I feel I should first explain the context of my problem and what causes this error. It happens when trying to use any bash script containing a 'while read' loop in GNU Parallel. I have a basic bash script like this: #!/bin/bash # linkcheck.sh while read domain do host "$domain" done Assume that I want to pipe in a large list (250mb say). cat urllist | ./linkcheck.sh Running host command on 250mb worth of URLs is rather slow. To speed things up I want to break up the input into chunks before piping it and then run multiple jobs in parallel. GNU Parallel is capable of doing this. cat urllist | parallel --pipe -j0 parallel ./linkcheck.sh {} {} is substituted by the contents of urllist line-by-line. Assume that my systems default setup is capable of running 500ish jobs per instance of parallel. To get round this limitation we can parallelize Parallel itself: cat urllist | parallel -j10 --pipe parallel -j0 ./linkcheck.sh {} This will run 5000'ish jobs. It will also, sadly, cause the error "broken pipe" (bash FAQ). Yet the script starts to work if I remove the while read loop and take input directly from whatever is fed into {} e.g., #!/bin/bash # linkchecker.sh domain="$1" host "$1" Why will it not work with a while read loop? Is it safe to just turn off the SIGPIPE signal to stop the "broken pipe" message, or will that have side effects such as data corruption? Thanks for reading.

  I'm running into a CSS problem. This is a setup based on Debian Squeeze (nginx/0.7.67, php5/cgi) on which I installed the latest Roundcube 0.5 beta. PHP is properly processed, login works fine but the CSS files are not loaded and Firefox is throwing the following errors: Error: The stylesheet https://webmail.example.net:10443/roundcube/skins/default/common.css?s=1290600165 was not loaded because its MIME type, "text/html", is not "text/css". Source File: https://webmail.example.net:10443/roundcube/?_task=login Line: 0 Error: The stylesheet https://webmail.example.net:10443/roundcube/skins/default/mail.css?s=1290156319 was not loaded because its MIME type, "text/html", is not "text/css". Source File: https://webmail.example.net:10443/roundcube/?_task=login Line: 0 As far as I understand, nginx doesn't see the .css extension (because ofthe ?s= argument) and thus set the mime type with the default value, being text/html. Should I fix this in nginx (and how ?) or is it roundcube's related ? Edit: It seems that it's nginx related. The content-type isn't set for any other type than text/html. I had to include manually the following declarations to force CSS and JS content-types. • Apache2 refuses to process php files - "Snow Leopard" OSX 10.6.4

  I have a macbook pro i5. my understanding is that by default it should be able to serve php5. i have uncommented the relevant line in /etc/apache2/httpd.conf LoadModule php5_module libexec/apache2/libphp5.so I have restarted apache with sudo apachectl -k restart and when i try to access a file with a php extension, Apache prompts me to download the file. i.e. instead of processing the php and sending me html, it thinks i want to download the file.... when i look in apache error log i see this [Fri Nov 12 10:16:14 2010] [notice] Apache/2.2.14 (Unix) PHP/5.3.2 mod_ssl/2.2.14 OpenSSL/0.9.8l DAV/2 mod_wsgi/3.2 Python/2.6.1 configured -- resuming normal operations so it looks like php5 is loading properly. • PHP 5.3 on IIS gives 404 error in CGI mode

  Slowly losing my mind here. I had PHP 5.2 working fine (ISAPI) under IIS, but for some extension I needed 5.3. So no worries, I installed this but it turns out ISAPI is not supplied anymore. I followed the install tutorials for fastcgi and ended up with a 500 internal server error for every PHP page served. So my current situation is: I have fastcgi removed. In my websites I have added PHP (head, get, post) and routed them to c:\php\php-cgi.exe. Result: every PHP page I try (even the ones with just text) gives 404 not found error. Any HTML file I put in the same folder, serves without a hitch. Who can help me please... How hard can something like this be right? For me apparently very hard. Extra information: ran the installer as suggested below. Set it to use fastcgi. my fcgiext.ini file looks like this now: [types] php=c:\php\php-cgi.exe [c:\php\php-cgi.exe] exepath=c:\php\php-cgi.exe from the command-line a 3 line PHP file with just phpinfo(); works fine from the server the same PHP file with just phpinfo(); results in the internal server 500 error. from the server a PHP file with just text works fine when changing the document types in IIS management console and point the PHP extension directly to c:\php\php-cgi.exe results in 404 for every PHP file the php.ini is the php.ini.production file which came in the distribution. No edits were made. Setting the IIS PHP handler directly to PHP (not via fastcgi) c:\php\php-cgi.exe results in the following: display a PHP page with only text....works fine display a page with only phpinfo(); results in 404 not found

  I have a linode VPS, running openSUSE 12.1 (A little outdated, but stable). I have installed the RPMS for mod_pagespeed. mod_pagespeed.conf has "ModPagespeed on".   I'm trying to run the non-GUI version of configuration wizard using power shell because I would like to set config and admin database names. GUI wizard doesn't give you all possible options for configuration (but even though it doesn't do it either).   I have noticed that when my computer in plugged in, the wireless strength increases. I'm assuming this is to do with power management. Is there a way to disable Wireless Power Management? I have found a few blog posts that show hacks to disable this but what is best practice here? Should there not be an option via the power menu that lets you toggle this?
