• Reverse Breadth First traversal in C#

  Anyone has a ready implementation of the Reverse Breadth First traversal algorithm in C#? By Reverse Breadth First traversal , I mean instead of searching a tree starting from a common node, I want to search the tree from the bottom and gradually converged to a common node. Let's see the below figure, this is the output of a Breadth First traversal : In my reverse breadth first traversal , 9,10,11 and 12 will be the first few nodes found ( the order of them are not important as they are all first order). 5, 6, 7 and 8 are the second few nodes found, and so on. 1 would be the last node found. Any ideas or pointers? Edit: Change "Breadth First Search" to "Breadth First traversal" to clarify the question

• Querying a 3rd party website's database from my website

  The Goal: To retrieve information from a 3rd party database based off of a user's query on my ASP.NET website The Details: I need to be able to search 3rd-party websites for information relating to pharmaceutical drugs. Basically, here's what I've been tasked with: a user starts entering the name of a drug they're using in their experiments, and while they're typing a 3rd party website (e.g., here or here) is queried and suggestions are made based based off of what they've typed. Once they've made a selection, certain properties (molecular weight, chemical structure, etc) are retrieved from the 3rd party database and stored in our database. PharmaGKB.org's search bar is pretty much what I need to implement, but I need to access a 3rd party db. The site that I'm working on is ASP.NET/C#. The Problem: I don't really know where to start with this. There's a downloadable Perl example at the bottom of the page here, but it didn't really help me all that much. I'm at a loss as to how to implement this, or even find information about how to do it. The AJAX toolkit was suggested, but I'm not sure if that will solve the issue. JavaScript is also being considered, but again, I'm not sure if that will be sufficient, either. Perl Example Connection As a mentioned, here is a snippet from the Perl example given on the Pharmgkb.org site: my $call = SOAP::Lite -> readable (1) -> uri('SearchService') -> proxy('http://www.pharmgkb.org/services/SearchService') -> search ($ARGV[0]); However, I'm not sure how to implement this is C#/ASP.NET/JavaScript. There's a question on Stack Overflow about embedding Perl in C#, but it require a C wrapper as well, and I don't think that three languages is necessary or wise to solve this issue.

• Data scheme question

  I am designing a data model for a local city page, more like requirements for it. So 4 tables: Country, State, City, neighbourhood. Real life relationships is: Country owns multiple State which owns multiple cities which ows multiple neighbourhoods. In the data model: Do we link these with FK the same way or link each with each? Like in each table there will even be a Country ID, State ID, CityID and NeighbourhoodID so each connected with each? Other wise to reach neighbourhood from country we need to join 2 other tables in between? There are more tables I need to maintain for IP addess of cities, latitude/longitude, etc.

• Why do people still use C these days? [closed]

  C++ is clearly a far superior language than C, since it has many features that C lacks (although, C++'s object model isn't as ideal as say C#'s). With the coming off the new C++0x standard, why hasn't C been phased out to obscurity? C++ has been around for so long, since the '80s. The Linux kernel has already been ported to C++ with negligible performance differences. I believe, with no evidence, that larger program structures benefit in performance if written in C++ than in C, if only because of object interaction. Don't get me started on "objects-in-C!" libraries, which are all a terrible hack. (Not that C++'s object model is the most ideal, but it is almost up to snuff with C# using common ad-hoc techniques.)

• Is there a language designed for code golf?

  I am not really a fan of code golf, but I have to wonder, is there an esoteric language designed for it? I mean a language with following properties: Common programs may be expressed in very short amount of characters It uses ASCII character set effectively (for example, common operators are not identifiers, so they don't have to be separated by whitespace, character usage is distributed more or less evenly because we cannot use Huffman coding and so on) Except the terse syntax, it should have very expressible and clean semantics (like, let's say, Python or Scheme); it shouldn't be difficult to program in It doesn't need features for large scale programs, such as OOP, but it definitely should allow custom functions and data structures It should have a large standard library, identifiers in this library should be as short as possible Maybe it should be called CG? Languages that can be a source of inspiration are Forth, APL and Joy.

• Where to put to_xls and from_xls in a rails app

  So I have a model that I need to be able to serialize to/read from an Excel(XLS) document. I am a bit of a loss as to where this code actually belongs. My initial thought is that the to_xls is a view, but after poking around and seeing things like (to|from)_xml and (to|from)_json in ActiveRecord, I was wondering if maybe this stuff belonged in the model. Alternatively, does it belong in just a whole separate container somewhere? For what it's worth, users will be downloading models from the site, modifying them in excel, then posting them.

• Ajax Post Request Returns JSON but Deferred Fails

  I have a cross-domain POST request to http://api.local/user/auth - my API endpoint. I allow Cross Domain requests in my api with CORS. Using Chrome if that makes a difference. I get a valid server JSON response with 200 Status Code but I am using deferreds from a backbone model like so: @model.save() .fail(-> console.log 'sync fail') .success -> console.log 'sync OK' And I consistently get a 'sync fail' instead of the expected 'sync OK' Thoughts?

• How to get cheap version control?

  Hello, I'm a programmer, contractor, self experimenter and so on. I'd need to have cheap version control. I've been working with Subversion and recently with Mercurial. I've seen around many cheap hosting but, even if they are great (like BitBucket), many of them don't allow many private projects (1 or 2). Much of the code I need to keep on VC is not open, maybe because it is stuff I'm working on for clients, or maybe because it's code I usually need for my development, but it is not intended and usable as a open source project. Now, I've a cheap web hosting, with unlimited space and free mysql. I CAN'T install Mercurial or SVN on those machinese, but I was asking myself if is it there a way to use a common CVS with it, with "common" I mean something that has its good IDE plugins (Eclipse or Netbeans) that may avoid me to write commands by hand. • Missing parameter error after running MySql query

  Hello, I'm completely new to MySql and haven't used SqlDataSource with UpdateParameters before, so I'm probably missing something very obvious. When trying to update a record, the update does happen but then throws an error saying "'id' parameter is missing at the statement". So the query works and the database gets updated as it should, but an error is thrown afterwards.   Are there any free solutions for automatically migrating a database from MySQL to MSSQL Server that "just works"? I've been attempting this simple (at least I thought so) task all day now. I've tried: MSSQL Server Management Studio's Import Data feature Create an empty database Tasks - Import Data... .NET Framework Data Provider for Odbc Valid DSN (verified it connects) Copy data from one or more tables or views Check 1 VERY simple table Click Preview Get Error: The preview data could not be retrieved. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: ERROR [42000] [MySQL][ODBC 5.1 Driver][mysqld-5.1.45-community]You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '"table_name"' at line 1 (myodbc5.dll) A similar error occurs if I go through the rest of the wizard and perform the operation. The failed step is "Setting Source Connection" the error refers to retrieving column information and then lists the above error. It can retrieve column information just fine when I modify column mappings so I really don't know what the issue is. I've also tried getting various MySql tools to output ddl statements that MSSQL understand but haven't succeeded. I've tried with MySQL v5.1.11 to SQL Server 2005 and with MySQL v5.1.45 to SQL Server 2008 (with ODBC drivers 3.51.27.00 and 5.01.06.00 respectively)

• Restrict violation of architecture - asp.net MVP

  If we had a defined hierarchy in an application. For ex a 3 - tier architecture, how do we restrict subsequent developers from violating the norms? For ex, in case of MVP (not asp.net MVC) architecture, the presenter should always bind the model and view. This helps in writing proper unit test programs. However, we had instances where people directly imported the model in view and called the functions violating the norms and hence the test cases couldn't be written properly. Is there a way we can restrict which classes are allowed to inherit from a set of classes? I am looking at various possibilities, including adopting a different design pattern, however a new approach should be worth the code change involved.

Now if i have two text boxes on my page,and i am doing required filed validation for both of them in model. This validation is done on server side on click of a button. I will fill one text box and click on submit button. It does the validation and returns the result saying second field is required. At this time value of the first text box is retained. So can you tell me how this text box is retaining the value even after postback?

Maybe I have to fetch the whole array graph for this to work (I have another model in a one to many relationship)?

  As an example, assume the following simple model: public class Order { public List<LineItem> LineItems { get; set; } public List<Fee> Fees { get; set; } } public class LineItem { } public class Fee { } With RIA Services, if I want to retrieve an Order and include all of it's line items in the same network call, I can statically place an [Include] attribute on the above LineItems collection. This works great for a single scenario, but what happens when I need multiple "include strategies"? For instance, one situation might call for including the Fees collection and NOT the LineItems collection. Is there any way with RIA Services to control what's included at runtime without redefining your model and/or creating dtos with the attributes statically placed for each use-case?

• Reading int from a hidden field in .aspx

  Hi, I'm struggling to read an int from the hidden field on aspx page. <input type = "hidden" id = "myIntegerId" name = "integerId" value= "<%: Model.MyObjectId %>" runat = "server" /> The value is definately on the form, I can see it in the debugger and print it with <%: % When I read the form values in the controller, instead of an int I recieve a following string: <%: Model.MyObjectId % I have tried casting data in the hidden field to string and calling ToString() method on that field, neither has worked. The data is submitted using the post event. I have a feeling that I'm missing something very basic... Any help is greately appreciated. Thanks

  The following code works as you’d expect — MyProperty on the model is updated when the user picks a new item in the dropdown. comboBox1.DataBindings.Add("SelectedValue", myModel, "MyProperty", true, DataSourceUpdateMode.OnPropertyChanged); The following, however, doesn’t work the same way and the model update isn’t triggered until the input focus moves to another control on the form: comboBox1.DataBindings.Add("SelectedItem", myModel, "MyProperty", true, DataSourceUpdateMode.OnPropertyChanged); Does anybody know why? I don’t even know where to start investigating the cause. Pointers in the right direction to start the investigation or an outright explanation would be equally appreciated. Thanks.

• Mongoid Embeds_many won't save on nested form

  I've got an embeds_many association I'm trying to set up which I've done successfully before, but I'm trying to do it all in one nested form and I can't figure it out. Let's say we have a pocket model: class Pocket include Mongoid::Document field :title, type: String embeds_many :coins, cascade_callbacks: true end and a Coin Model: class Coin include Mongoid::Document field :name, type: String embedded_in :pocket end in my form for the pocket, I'm using: = f.fields_for @pocket.coins do |coin| = coin.text_field :name My controller is the default scaffolded controller. When I use the console, it saves fine and I can see the new pocket and coin I've created. But when I try to create or update a coin from the form, the pocket saves but the coin remains unchanged. What am I missing here?

Shows some common design idioms expressed in C, like encapsulation, modularity and that kind of thing. Is example-driven with a lot of good-quality code. I already know the language itself so books like otherwise wonderful "Expert C Programming" by Peter van der Linden is not really what i am looking for. What i need is a book on how to express my design in C, what are the common idioms, best practices, etc. I would also like to note that i am primarily interested in C, not C++, C#, Objective-C or any other languages inspired by C-like syntax.   Hi, I'm in the process of reorganizing some of the legacy libraries in our application which has unmanaged code calling into libraries of managed code. While I have the code reorganized, it produces the following loader error: ... P9842 is a third party library so I imagine it is getting to one of my libraries after P9842 and failing on that one. Can I narrow it down? Thanks.
