• Writing asynchronously on a stream in cocoa

  Hi folks I have been trying to find any way for writing asynchronously on a stream in Cocoa. I have a set of events in my applications which will try to send data through the socket but i can't be blocked during this transmission due to design terms. I have tried setting a delegate on the output stream and check the event NSStreamEventHasSpaceAvailable but I don't know how this can be combined with the events that put data into the stream. Is there anyway for doing that? I thought using NSThread but I guess there is a better option. Cheers

• Android x86 porting, unable to make it work

  I'm kind of new to the whole porting issue and I got to it because of the slowness in the emulator provided with the Android SDK. I downloaded the android-x86-3.2-RC2-eeepc and android-x86-3.2-RC2-tegav2 ISO-es (from this site) and tried them on the VirtualBox but have no internet connection on the eeepc version and the tegev2 wont event start. I tried the VirtualBoxHowTo but got nothing, on both Windows and Linux platforms. the only thing I managed to understand is that to use this on a VM you need to build it for VM. Can anyone help me on this? P.S.: I need the HoneyComb version (3.2) and the pc I have is a AMD 6 core on and Asus Crosshair Extreme motherboard, Windows 7 or Ubunutu 11.10. (both OS are 64bit)

• WPF TreeView PreviewMouseDown on TreeViewItem

  If I handle the PreviewMouseDown event on TreeViewItem, I get events for everything I click on that TreeViewItem include the little +/- box to the left (Windows XP). How can I distinguish that?   I want to load data from my web server, I want it be the AJAX/Comet way, my web-server long holds the request, response it until something happened.   Hello! I'm very new to actionscript 3.0 and flash in general. I'm trying to update a website that someone else did with flash, and am having issues with it. I need a button to link to an outside website, but I keep getting the error "access of undefined property" on my button. • Response.Redirect in HttpModule

  Can I do a redirect to a custom page in an HttpModule? I have an HttpModule A which executes some javascript code when any aspx page is loaded. I would like to have a server side code check to see if the clients browsers supports cookies. Can I place that code in the HttpModule A? If so, in which event? Or do I need to have a new HttpHandler for both purposes? Also, is it possible to check for cookies in an HttpModule(without a response.redirect)? All solutions I have seen need 2 pages, 1 for setting the cookie and the other for checking if the cookie has actually been created. I am hoping there should be a way to check for cookies at one place. Thanks in advance

• What's the smartest way to organize SVN for translated versions of the same project?

  I apologize because I know this has been covered over and over again, but I'm trying to understand the smartest way to cleverly use subversion to our benefit. (*Note: I know our method is not the BEST way to handle localized versions, but external factors are forcing us to work this way on current projects) We have a fairly static website in English...html, css, js, etc. After the site comes back from the translator we will have 5 variations of the same code (this week...then potentially 25 more in the future!). So we'll soon have a folder for EN, FR, SP, DE, etc. Most files (css, js, img) will remain exactly the same; and html files (structure, id's, classes) will only vary based on the localized text inside the elements. Is there any way to use clever SVN folder structuring that would help us out in the event that if a small change is needed, we don't have to manually change the files in each and every translated version of the site?   hi all, I'm developing a Ajax based php application. As anybody knows, I'm checking whether user is logged in every php file as the first statement. And there are two ways that I should response in an event of logging failure, server redirect to the login page using header(url). CASE: If user directly enter a particular URL passing url in Ajax response asking client side page redirection or notification CASE: If user trying to perform some action through a Ajax request So my question is how can identify whether request coming from client side is a Ajax call or not ? If I know that I can handle my response accordingly. OR Is there a better way of handling above scenario ? Thank You

  I noted this (it's a java.awt.event class). public abstract class MouseAdapter implements MouseListener, MouseWheelListener, MouseMotionListener { .... } Then you are clearly forced to extend from this adapter public class MouseAdapterImpl extends MouseAdapter {} the class is abstract and implements no methods. Is this a strategy to combine different interfaces into a single "basically interface" ? I assume in java it's not possible to combine different interfaces into a single one without using this approach. In other words, it's not possible to do something like this in java public interface MouseAdapterIface extends MouseListener, MouseWheelListener, MouseMotionListener { } and then eventually public class MouseAdapterImpl implements MouseAdapterIface {} Is my understanding of the point correct ? what about C# ?

• Silverlight - rebinding to a property?

  Hello, I'm just getting started with silverlight. Basically I have a silverlight user control that has various dataGrids and a combobox, their item sources set to the properties of a custom plain c# object. My problem is that I have a dropdown list that when a user selects an item from the list a new row should appear in one of the grids. All I'm doing is handling the SelectionChanged event and adding a new item to to a list in my custom object and setting the itemsource for the grid again. This doesnt seem to work; no row is added to the dataGrid I have no idea how to force my grid to "rebind" to this property. I've been reading about dependency properties, are these what I need? Any pointers would be really appreciated.

• C# WinForms: How to load an image, then wait a few seconds, then play a mp3 sound ?

  Hello everybody, (after pressing a button) i would like to show an image (using a picturebox), wait a few seconds and then play a mp3 sound, but i dont get it to work. To wait a few seconds i use "System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000)". The problem is, the image alway appears AFTER the wait time, but i want it to show first, then wait, then play the mp3... i tried to use "WaitOnLoad = true" but it doesnt work, shouldn't it load the image first and the continue to read the next code line ?? Here is the code i've tried, that doesnt work: private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { pictureBox1.WaitOnLoad = true; pictureBox1.Load("image.jpg"); System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000); MessageBox.Show("test"); //just to test, here should be the code to play the mp3 } (i also tried loading the image with "LoadAsync" and put the code to wait and play the mp3 in the "LoadCompleted" event, but that doesnt work either...) would be very nice if somebody helps me

  How can I update the JProgressBar.setValue(int) from another thread? My secondary goal is do it in the least amount of classes possible.   Is possible refresh a function every x seconds or refresh it on single event? I explain: I have a function that make pagination on my website, inside every div that are "pages" I have some pictures where I have added LightBox. Everything works nice on the first div (page) but when I change the page it doesnt' work anymore. I tried to fix in this way: $('.pagination a').click(function () { initShadow(); }); In this way it work on the pageLoad and on the first page that I change, than it stop again. So I need to fix this issue, everytime I change the "page" I would like it works fine. Is possible to refresh a function every x second or to refresh it everytime I click on the pagination buttons?

• Creating many new instances vs reusing them?

  I have multiple business entities in VB.NET Windows Forms application. Right now they are instanced on application startup and used when needed. They hold descriptions of business entities and methods for storing and retrieving data. To cut the long story short, they are somewhat heavy objects to construct (they have some internal dictionaries and references to other objects) created and held in one big global variable called "BLogic". Should I refactor this so that each object is created when needed and released when out of scope? Then every event on UI will probably create a few of this objects. Should I strive to minimize creation of new objects or to minimize number of static and global objects? Generally I am trying to minimize the scope of every variable but should I treat this business logic objects specially?

• Question regarding checking the state of a checkbox class

  I'll try and make this question simple. Can I assign a class to a series of different checkboxes, and use Jquery to do something when any one of those checkboxes is checked? Searching around on the internet I have found documentation on grabbing the name: $('input[name=foo]').is(':checked') but when I swap out the name attribute for the class attr, it won't work! How can I set an event to occur if any of the checkboxes with this certain class is checked? Please help me out! Thanks

• GenerateBootstrapper fails to create a working setup.exe

  I’m seeing some odd behaviour I can’t explain. I'm using wix to generate a msi and using the msbuild GenerateBootstrapper task to handle pre-requisites. It all seems to build correctly i.e. there are no error or warnings but the generated setup.exe won’t run. It gives a nice blank error dialog and the event log gives about the same information. The kicker is that if I drop to the command line and run msbuild manually on the project and specify the bootstrapper target it generates a correct and working setup.exe. I've used this wix article as a base and a number of questions on StackOverflow to no avail. Has anyone seen this behaviour before, better still a fix?

• Distributed, persistent cache using EHCache

  I currently have a distributed cache using EHCache via RMI that works just fine. I was wondering if you can include persistence with the caches to create a distributed, persistent cache. Alongside this, if the cache was persistent, would it load from the file store, then bootstrap from the cache cluster? Basically, what I want is: Cache starts Cache loads persistent objects from the file store Cache joins the distruted cluster and bootstraps as normal The usecase behind this is having 2 identical components running on independent machines, distributing the cache to avoid losing data in the event that one of the components fails. The persistence would guard against losing all data on the rare occasion that both components fail. Would moving to another distribution method (such as Terracotta) support this?

  I need to make a little JS app to scroll automatically through a list of URLs. I've chosen to have the functionality in a pop-up, for various reasons. The syntax to change the opening window's URL is: window.opener.location.href = "http://www.example.com"; This works fine with one URL, but if two statements are called, only one is executed. I experimented with an alert statement between two of the above statements, and the alert event made the second statement function properly: window.opener.location.href = "http://www.example1.com"; alert("hello world"); window.opener.location.href = "http://www.example2.com"; Question is: does anyone know how to get the first and second window.opener statements to work, without the intervening alert();? Also, how can I add a pause between the two statements, so that the second executes a couple of seconds after the first? Thanks so much!

  Hi, Does anyone know a workaround for the bug https://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/RF-8076 ? Just to clarify things, we have a form with multiple inputs, one of them being a combobox with auto complete features. We've setup a hotkey via <rich:hotKey key="return" ... /> It works great everywhere except in the combobox, and I would really like to get it working on the combobox as well. The behaviour I want when the ENTER key is pressed inside the combobox is: If the combobox context was modified by auto complete then do nothing Else action the event on ENTER key pressed We're running on seam/richfaces. I'm open to any workaround, but simplicity is much sought for. Thanks!

• How to effectively draw on desktop in C#?

  I want to draw directly on the desktop in C#. From searching a bit, I ended up using a Graphics object from the Desktop HDC (null). Then, I painted normally using this Graphics object. The problem is that my shapes get lost when any part of the screen is redrawn. I tried a While loop, but it actually ends up drawing as fast as the application can, which is not the update rate of the desktop. Normally, I would need to put my drawing code in a "OnPaint" event, but such thing does not exist for the desktop. How would I do it?   I'm wondering how to filter the input of a .NET textbox. I already know that I could listen for the KeyDown event and intercept the key, but that won't filter pasted strings by a right-click menu or a CTRL+V. I also don't wan't to completely disable the possibility of pasting of characters in the textbox. The paste action should be cancelled whenever it contains one or more invalid characters. Finally, I'd like to display a notification balloon whenever invalid characters are either entered or pasted. µTorrent already has this exact behavior: How can I achieve this functionality in C# ?
