    I have a website with a jQuery UI navigation, and I've got ajax working to dynamically change content between html files. I'm basically just replacing the contents of certain div ids with the contents of other div ids. This still requires numerous HTML files and I was wondering if there was a way to have a single html file and load content into the main page from it instead? What about an xml file?     Most desk jobs these days involve the frequent use of a web browser. What Firefox UI customisations increase your productivity and make your working life easier? Not necessarily add-ons (although no reason why not as long as they're UI-related), but I'm thinking more along the lines of toolbar removal/placement, icon/menu removal/placement, tweaks to userChrome.css etc. to make things more pleasant and optimal. Screenshots welcome. I realise some people feel UI customisation makes switching between machines harder. Whilst I agree to some extent, if you mainly use one machine, and it helps your productivity - why not?

  • Where does Windows 8 put the exe of the default browser for Modern UI?

    I was trying to some hack with Win-8 and I found something which is really gonna out my mind. When I set the default browser to the IE then its icon become Modern UI and I can't see the option Open file location at the bottom when I select it by right click. But if I don't set it default then it became a desktop version icon and show up the option when I select it. Same is for the Google Chrome when I checked it. IE icon when it is not set to default, I can see the option open file location. Google Chrome icon when it is set to default. Google Chrome of desktop version when it is set to default. So my question is where does Modern UI keep exe of the default browser? And why the default browser has Modern UI icon and non-default browser has desktop version icon.

  • Firefox and Flash requires 2 clicks after Scrolling?

    I've noticed this with me and my partners computers, take a look at this: http://www.uploadify.com/demo/ Those buttons are flash. If you scroll (scroll to the bottom then back up, using your mouse scroll) then hover over a button, it is a normal pointer, not a hand. If you click on the button, then it turns into a hand, then you can click on it to trigger the browse files window. Is there any way to fix this? Is this a Firefox bug (doesn't happen in Chrome or IE8)?

  • IE9 HANGS: jquery based webapp hanging ONLY with IE9

    I'm stuck on this issue since days... This is the site I'm talking about. It is a webapp which makes large use of backbone, visualsearch, jquery plugins. This website is not working at the moment with IE8, but it's fine that it works with IE9...if just it would! What happens is that the website hangs when loaded ONLY with IE9 and (this is bizarre!) if the profiler tool of IE9 developer tools is ON it doesn't!! It also happens to oher people (I was notified of that) so I'm pretty sure it's not an issue linked to my browser settings. It makes me think about an error which has something to do with delays, or iterative functions which, in presence of profiler, are forced to delay bte cycles and so to leave free time slots to other functions which render the page. I can update with more details if needed. thanks.

    After a video has played on YouTube, often there will be a follow up link after the video has finished playing in the form of related videos. I'm looking to implement similar into my HTML5 Video. It would look something like this: At the moment, it seems there is nothing in the W3C spec for this (Links inside HTML5 video). Could anyone advise on a method of achieving? I have 50-100 videos on my site on which I would like to implement. Currently I'm thinking a Javascript callback which initiates the Call to action buttons, though I have a feeling this could get complicated...

  • Wrong perspective is showing in Eclipse plugin project [closed]

    I am working in Eclipse Modeling Framework (Eclipse plugin development) in my project the tool(project i am working) provides three perspectives. 1.Accelerator Analyst perspective 2.Contract Validation and 3.Underwriter rules Editor... By default it starts with Contract validation perspective (As we define it within the plugin_customization.ini). However after switching to other perspective does not change the perspective shown... As all perspective (Class, Id and Name) is define only inside Plugin.XML as it is the task of org.eclipse.ui.perspective that that perspective name should be come forefront.   • Should one generally develop a client library for REST services to help prevent API breakages?

    We have a project where UI code will be developed by the same team but in a different language (Python/Django) from the services layer (REST/Java). The code for each layer exits in different code repositories and which can follow different release cycles. I'm trying to come up with a process that will prevent/reduce breaking changes in the services layer from the perspective of the UI layer. I've thought to write integration tests at the UI layer level that we'll run whenever we build the UI or the services layer (we're using Jenkins as our CI tool to build the code which is in two Git repos) and if there are failures then something in the services layer broke and the commit is not accepted. Would it also be a good idea (is it a best practice?) to have the developer of the services layer create and maintain a client library for the REST service that exists in the UI layer that they will update whenever there is a breaking change in their Service API? Conceivably, we would then have the advantage of a statically-typed API that the UI code builds against. If the client library API changes, then the UI code won't compile (so we'll know sooner that there was a breaking change). I'd also still run the integration tests upon building the UI or services layer to further validate that the integration between UI and the service(s) still works.

  • Need help with setting up comet code

    Does anyone know off a way or maybe think its possible to connect Node.js with Nginx http push module to maintain a persistent connection between client and browser. I am new to comet so just don't understand the publishing etc maybe someone can help me with this. What i have set up so far is the following. When there is a message it will fire updateFeed. Pretty basic and understandable IMO. My idea is to have node.js broadcasting /broadcast/pub. I think this will let me have persistent streaming data from the server to the client without breaking the connection. I tried the long-polling approach with looping the request but I think this will be more efficient. Or is this not going to work. Node.js file Now to create the Node.js i'm lost. First off all I don't know how to have node.js to work in this way. The setup I used for long polling is as follows: var sys = require('sys'), http = require('http'); http.createServer(function (req, res) { res.writeHead(200, {'Content-Type': 'text/html'}); res.write(new Date()); res.close(); seTimeout('',1000); }).listen(8000); This listens to port 8000 and just writes on the response variable. Does anyone have an idea on how to have Node.js act in a way Comet understands it. Would be really nice and you will help me out a lot. I think this requires AJAX but I don't have much experience with it. I'm also confused on how to use jQuery to write the new HTML after the information is grabbed.

    I'm playing around with writing a jQuery plugin that uses an attribute to define form validation behavior (yes, I'm aware there's already a validation plugin; this is as much a learning exercise as something I'll be using). I'm fairly sure this will require a combination of both DTD and XML Schema, but I'm not really quite sure how exactly to execute. But I noticed that menubar that i was using stopped working, it was supposed to drop horizontaly but it is not being displayed now. I have used jquery for it. Please see the source of the web page.   • twitter bootstrap collapsable nav menu

    I am using twitter bootstrap on my web app to do all of the styling and everything is great for the most part. The problem is that my nav bar, once collapsed, will not drop down when I click the dropdown icon.
