• How to use RewriteBase in .htaccess to rewrite img tags?

  I guess I don't understand RewriteBase. I have a (drupal) site built on my dev server and everything works perfectly. I created a fake URL for it in my own apache and hosts file, so I get to my local version with "local-examplesite.com". Eventually it will live at www.examplesite.com, but I want to put up a draft with a temp URL at my hosting company like so: 123.45.67.89/~examplesite . I set the RewriteBase in .htaccess to /~examplesite . All the pages work fine, and all the navigation links go to the right places. But none of my images work! They are of the format src="/sites/default/images/blah.png", and so the tags are getting rendered as src="http://123.45.67.89/sites/default/images/blah.png", instead of src="http://123.45.67.89/~examplesite/sites/default/images/blah.png". Is there any way I can get the site to point to right images? I thought that's what rewritebase was for, but after reading up a bit I guess it is for URLs only (the ones that get rewritten, natch).

• Where can I get software-related legal advice?

  Whenever someone asks a legal question here on SO, the response is usually something along the lines of "we are not lawyers." Okay, that's legitimate, but in that case, how can I talk to a lawyer about software-related legal matters? I could look through the phone book and find a local lawyer, but then I have no way of knowing whether the lawyer knows anything about software. (And I hear most local lawyers charge for your time, even if it's just a simple question.) Is there maybe some kind of online service for this sort of thing? For now, I'm just looking for some basic advice, so something free would be awesome, even if the "quality" is not as good. However, I'll still take any kind of paid services--I'll keep them in mind for the future. You can give me anything from a forum or QA site (like this one) to a professional service. Just remember that I'm looking specifically for software-related legal advice. I'm sure most lawyers know a thing or two about software, but I'd rather talk to someone who legitimately knows his stuff than someone who can only guess.

  I am trying to display a nullable date time in my JSON response. I think I've used ternary operators before, but I can't remember if I did it in this code base or another code base (that uses EF4 instead of L2S). Is this true, or am I missing some other issue?

Answer It looks like munging tabular output is the only way within the shell, but df /dev/fd/impossible | tail -1 | awk '{ print $NF}' is a big improvement on what I had. Note two differences in semantics: firstly, df $path insists that $path names an existing file, the script I had above doesn't care; secondly, there are no worries about dereferncing symlinks. It's not difficult to write Python code to do the job.

• efficient sort with custom comparison, but no callback function

  I have a need for an efficient sort that doesn't have a callback, but is as customizable as using qsort(). What I want is for it to work like an iterator, where it continuously calls into the sort API in a loop until it is done, doing the comparison in the loop rather than off in a callback function. This way the custom comparison is local to the calling function (and therefore has access to local variables, is potentially more efficient, etc). I have implemented this for an inefficient selection sort, but need it to be efficient, so prefer a quick sort derivative. Has anyone done anything like this? I tried to do it for quick sort, but trying to turn the algorithm inside out hurt my brain too much. • jQuery.data() works in Mac OS WebKit, but not on iPhone OS?

  I'm playing around with jQTouch for an iPhone OS app that I've been toying with off and on for a while. I wanted to try my hand building it as a web app so I started playing with jQTouch. For reference, here is the page+source (all my code is currently in index.html so you can just "View Source" to see it all): http://rpj.me/doughapp.com/wd/ Essentially, I'm trying to save pertinent JSON objects retrieved from Google Local into DOM objects using the data() method (in this example, obj is the Google Local object): $('#locPane').data('selected', obj); then later (in a different "pane"), retrieving that object to be used: $('#locPane').bind('pageAnimationEnd', function(e, inf) { var selobj = $(this).data('selected'); // use 'selobj' here ... } In Chromium and Safari on the desktop OS (Snow Leopard in my case), this works perfectly (try it out). However, the same code returns undefined for the call to $(this).data('selected') in the second snippet above. I've also tried $('#' + e.target.id).data('selected') and even the naive $('#locPane').data('selected'). All variants return undefined in the iPhone OS version of WebKit, but not on the desktop. Interestingly, the running this on Mobile Safari in the iPhone Simulator fails as well. If you look at the full source, you'll see that I even try to save this object into my global jQTouch object (named jqt in my code). This, too, fails on the mobile platform. Has anyone else ever ran into this? I'll admit to not being a web/javascript programmer by trade, so if I'm making an idiot's error please call me out on it. • VisualSVN How to roll back the revision number ?

  The company I work in has suffered a major server failure. During this failure the SVN Repository was lost. But there is still hope ! We have an old backup of the repository which I've managed to successfully restore using VisualSVN. The problem I'm facing now is that I can't update / commit pre-failure checkedout folders. The reason for this problem is that for instance: a local folder has a revision number of 2361, while the repository itself holds a revision number of 2290, which is older. Is there a way to deal with this issue ? Can I some how change the revision numbers on either the local copy or the server copy? A few points: I'm using TortoiseSVN 1.6.6. I can checkout folders from the repo and the connection is active. I've picked one of my folders and used the Relocate option on it. This helped me see that there is something wrong with the revision number I've experimented a bit with the merge option but this lead me now where special. • How to cache code in PHP?

  I am creating a custom form building system, which includes various tokens. These tokens are found using Regular Expressions, and depending on the type of toke, parsed. Some require simple replacement, some require cycles, and so forth. Now I know, that RegExp is quite resource and time consuming, so I would like to be able to parse the code for the form once, creating a php code, and then save the PHP code, for next uses. How would I go about doing this? So far I have only seen output caching. Is there a way to cache commands like echo and cycles like foreach()? Because of misunderstandings, I'll create an example. I have code, which is currently not working. • Providing downloads on ASP.net website

  I need to provide downloads of large files (upwards of 2 GB) on an ASP.net website. It has been some time since I've done something like this (I've been in the thick-client world for awhile now), and was wondering on current best practices for this. Ideally, I would like: To be able to track download statistics: # of downloads is essential; actual bytes sent would be nice. To provide downloads in a way that "plays nice" with third-party download managers. Many of our users have unreliable internet connections, and being able to resume a download is a must. To allow multiple users to download the same file simultaneously. My download files are not security-sensitive, so providing a direct link ("right-click to download...") is a possibility. Is just providing a direct link sufficient, letting IIS handle it, and then using some log analyzer service (any recommendations?) to compile and report the statistics? Or do I need to intercept the download request, store some info in a database, then send a custom Response? Or is there an ASP.net user control (built-in or third party) that does this? I appreciate all suggestions.

  Say I have a class Foo, a class A and some subclass B of A. Foo accepts A and its sublclasses as the generic type. A and B both require a Foo instance in their constructor. I want A's Foo to be of type A , and B's Foo to be of type B or a superclass of B. So in effect, So I only want this: Foo<X> bar = new Foo<X>; new B(bar); to be possible if X is either A, B, or a both subclass of A and superclass of B. So far this is what I have: class Foo<? extends A>{ //construct } class A(Foo<A> bar){ //construct } class B(Foo<? super B> bar){ super(bar); //construct } The call to super(...) doesn't work, because <A> is stricter than <? super B>. Is it somehow possible to use the constructor (or avoid code duplication by another means) while enforcing these types? Edit: Foo keeps a collection of elements of the generic parameter type, and these elements and Foo have a bidirectional link. It should therefore not be possible to link an A to a Foo.

• asmx web service returning xml instead of json in .net 4.0

  i have just upgraded a test copy of my site to asp.net 4.0 and have noticed a strange issue that only arises when i upload the site to my server. the site has an asmx web service that returns json, yet when i run the site on my server it returns xml. it as been working fine in asp.net 3.5 for over a year. the webMethod is decorated with the correct attributes... [WebMethod][ScriptMethod(ResponseFormat = ResponseFormat.Json)] public List<LocationRecentChange> RecentChanges() and on my local machine it returns json. yet on the server (Windows 2008 64bit) it returns xml. you can inspect the response on the test site here... my test site using firebug console you will see a 200 OK response and a bunch of XML, and on my local machine the data returned is the JSON i expect. Here is the javascript that calls the service.. function loadRecentData() { $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "service/spots.asmx/RecentChanges", data: "{}", contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", dataType: "json", success: loadRecentUpdates, failure: function(msg) { //alert(msg); } }); } Any suggestions welcome, this has got me stumped!

• Uniform grid Rows and Columns

What method can I override so my Cartesian grid knows how many columns and rows it has? • C++ - Basic WinAPI question

  Hello! I am now working on a some sort of a game engine and I had an idea to put everything engine-related into a static library and then link it to my actual problem. Right now I achieved it and actually link that library and every functions seem to work fine, except those, which are windows-related. I have a chunk of code in my library that looks like this: hWnd = CreateWindow(className, "Name", WS_OVERLAPPED | WS_CAPTION | WS_EX_TOPMOST, 0, 0, 800, 600, NULL, NULL, GetModuleHandle(NULL), this); if (hWnd) { ShowWindow(hWnd, SW_NORMAL); UpdateWindow(hWnd); } else { MessageBox(NULL, "Internal program error", "Error", MB_OK | MB_ICONERROR); return; } When this code was not in the library, but in the actual project, it worked fine, created the window and everything was ok. Right now (when I'm linking to my library that contains this code) CreateWindow(...) call returns NULL and GetLastError() returns "Operation succesfully completed" (wtf?). Could anybody help me with this? Is it possible to create a window and display it using a static library call and why could my code fail? Thank you.

Here is the XSLT code I am fiddling with: <xsl:for-each select="/Root/CustomerOrder/Drinks/Drink"> <xsl:sort select="/Root/DrinkSelections/Drink[@id = @oid]/@name"/> <xsl:variable name=var_oid select="@oid"/> <xsl:value-of select="/Root/DrinkSelections/Drink[@id = $var_oid]/@name"/> </xsl:for-each> Apparently, the xsl:sort command is trying to apply the "oid" attribute to the Drink elements in DrinkSelections, rather than local Drink element. I can get around this using a variable, as in the xsl:value-of statement. But since xsl:sort must be the first statement after the xsl:for-each statement, I can't insert the xsl:variable statement before xsl:sort. Is there a way to explicitly state that the attribute value should be taken from the "local" element?

• RMagick transparent_color deprecated? What's the alternative?

  I'm developing an app that does a fair amount of generating transparent pngs on the fly. These are used as overlays, to show areas of interest in a graphic, so they have to have transparent backgrounds. I am developing in Ruby on Rails, deploying on Heroku. What works fine in development is not working in production. I get this error when I call a drawing routine using RMagick: NotImplementedError (the `transparent_color=' method is not supported by ImageMagick 6.2.4): /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rmagick-1.15.17/lib/RMagick.rb:1691:in `transparent_color=' I'm using RMagick version 2.12.1 on the development machine, but I'm not exactly certain how to discover the version of ImageMagick that it's running, so I'm not sure if this is a case of my local code being behind or ahead. I'm hoping behind, because perhaps then there'll be a replacement for this call. Does anyone know what the fix is here? What's required to generate a transparent background, if not the call I'm using? I can't find this in the documentation: in fact, it was on a third-party site that I found mention of this capability.

  I created a JSON using a PHP script. I am reading the JSON and can see that the data has been correctly read. However, when it comes to access the objects I get unrecognized selector sent to instance... Cannot seem to find why that is after too many hours !!!! Any help would be great !   I'm stuck in a rut. I hope some one can help. Basically, I am building an AJAX mobile web app with jQuery. I am able to parse a specific XML file just fine, but I want the option to parse other XML files based on the link they were clicked on and load them on the fly into the same DIV or UL. So: click on Link1, loads XML1 click on Link2, loads XML2 I would like to be able to do this all client side, so no PHP (or is that a bad idea?). I have been passing the variable using GET in the url. So the link in the HTML goes to /?lineID=SBD_to_Union and it should load the XML file called SBD_to_Union.xml Making sense to anyone? I'd appreciate some help.

• Using custom detectors with FindBugs Maven plugin

  I have a nice JAR of some custom FindBugs detectors I'd like to use with the FindBugs Maven plugin. There is a way to do this with the plugin via the <pluginList> configuration parameter, but that only accepts local files, URLs, or resources. The only way I found for doing so is to somehow copy my JAR to a local file (maybe via the Dependency plugin) and then configure the FindBugs plugin something like this: <plugin> <groupId>org.codehaus.mojo</groupId> <artifactId>findbugs-maven-plugin</artifactId> <version>2.3.1</version> <configuration> <pluginList>${project.build.directory}/my-detectors.jar</pluginList> </configuration> </plugin> But this is not very flexible. Is there a way to use Maven's dependency management features together with FindBugs' plugins? I'd like to use something like this: <plugin> <groupId>org.codehaus.mojo</groupId> <artifactId>findbugs-maven-plugin</artifactId> <dependencies> <dependency> <groupId>com.lptr.findbugs</groupId> <artifactId>my-detectors</artifactId> <version>1.0</version> </dependency> </dependencies> </plugin> ...but this simply overrides the core FindBugs detectors.
