• Representing xml through a single class

  I am trying to abstract away the difficulties of configuring an application that we use. This application takes a xml configuration file and it can be a bit bothersome to manually edit this file, especially when we are trying to setup some automatic testing scenarios. I am finding that reading xml is nice, pretty easy, you get a network of element nodes that you can just go through and build your structures quite nicely. However I am slowly finding that the reverse is not quite so nice. I want to be able to build a xml configuration file through a single easy to use interface and because xml is composed of a system of nodes I am having a lot of struggle trying to maintain the 'easy' part. Does anyone know of any examples or samples that easily and intuitively build xml files without declaring a bunch of element type classes and expect the user to build the network themselves? For example if my desired xml output is like so <cook version="1.1"> <recipe name="chocolate chip cookie"> <ingredients> <ingredient name="flour" amount="2" units="cups"/> <ingredient name="eggs" amount="2" units="" /> <ingredient name="cooking chocolate" amount="5" units="cups" /> </ingredients> <directions> <direction name="step 1">Preheat oven</direction> <direction name="step 2">Mix flour, egg, and chocolate</direction> <direction name="step 2">bake</direction> </directions> </recipe> <recipe name="hot dog"> ... How would I go about designing a class to build that network of elements and make one easy to use interface for creating recipes? Right now I have a recipe object, an ingredient object, and a direction object. The user must make each one, set the attributes in the class and attach them to the root object which assembles the xml elements and outputs the formatted xml. Its not very pretty and I just know there has to be a better way. I am using python so bonus points for pythonic solutions

• Give a number to return the approximated value of an Enum?

For example, if I have the number 190 then I expect to find the more approximated value in the Enum to return the 192 (kbps_192 value of the Enum), if I have the number 196 then again I expect to return the value 192 (not return the next value 224 because is less approximated). • Android: onListItemClick not getting called in ListActivity

  I'm having problems with my first Android app. I have subclassed ListActivity, and I'm having no luck getting the overridden onListItemClick() to respond to click events. I've read focus can be a problem, but changing focus in the XML files does not seem to work. Here's the relevant bits of code.   Hi all, I am beginning to use the google data api (specifically for the finance app). I can read my portfolio's just fine, so I am authenticating correctly (or so I think). However, when i try and create a portfolio, I get a 'feed is read-only' error. • IO.Directory.Exists always returns true

  I am executing a IO.Directory.Exists on a network share from an ASP.NET application running under a specific Application Pool with a specific user account. The call always returns true. I have tried several variations: \\server\share$\directory \\192.168.0.1\share$\directory H:\directory I have checked that directory and share permissions are available to the account. The path does have spaces in it \\server\share$\directory\name name\test test, which should make no difference, however I have read otherwise. I will continue to check permissions, as it does work from my local machine (with the built in VS web-server and I am an administrator on the network), but when deployed to the IIS 6.0 virtual directory, and run under the Application Pool, it does not work.

  I have a problem with a keystore in pkcs12 format, which contains a private key I need to use to authenticate myself (using mutual authentication) to a remote SSL server. The keystore file can be read perfectly fine by Firefox, and when used, I can access the remote server without problems. However, my Java program does not work with the keystore file. And if I use keytool to list keys inside the file, it seems empty -- while it is clearly not! How can I get Java/keytool to see the private key inside the keystore?

  Hi all, I have created a clearcase dynamic view for my development by name "view1". I have mistakenly selected the view storage location as a local PC in my network, that was made sharable by the PC owner. I was suppose to select the view storage location to be a server. Now, the issue is that I have done lot of development with the view that I have created and have plenty of view DO's and view private files in it. So I'm ruling out the option of deleting the view from the PC local storage (host path) and then creating another view in the server with the same config spec. Please, let me know if there is any method of editing the view properties (or doing something else) by which I could be able to move the view to the server (with all the DO's and view private files retained) Thanks in advance, Rahamath

  i have a table like this one: id | name | score mapped to a POJO via XML with Hibernate. The score column i only need in oder by - clauses in HQL. The value for the score column is calculated by an algorithm and updated every 24 hours via SQL batch process (JDBC). So i dont wanna pollute my POJO with properties i dont need at runtime. For a single column that may be not a problem, but i have several different score columns. Is there a way to map a property for HQL use only? For example like this: <property name="score" type="double" ignore="true"/> so that i still can do this: from Pojo p order by p.score but my POJO implementation can look like this: public class Pojo { private long id; private String name; // ... } No Setter for score provided or property added to implementation. using the latest Hibernate version for Java.

• Discovering the default gateway without DHCP

  A crazy question, but is there anyway to discover the default gateway without DHCP? This would be for a device on a network which does not use DHCP which does not have an IP address as yet. I was thinking if I could discover the default gateway, then i could try to guess an unused ip address then broadcast on the network to see if it's being used. I may be asking for trouble i understand. E.g. if there is already a computer which has a static IP and is shutdown.

  I have a custom dataGrid that acts more like a 2D list (if that makes sense at all). I am dynamically creating the columns and recreating the dataProvider to suit my needs. While debugging I can see that I am creating the columns and setting them to the dataGrid and creating and setting the dataProvider, but for some reason I am able to see the dataGrid and the columns but not the data. • flash.media.Sound.play takes long time to return

  I'm trying to play some sounds in my flash project through action script. However for some reason in my code the call to Sound.play takes from 40ms to over 100ms in extreme cases, which is obviously more than enough to be very noticeable whenever a sound is played. This happens every time a sound is played, not just when that sound is first played, so I dont think its because the Sound object is still loading data or anything like that... At the start I have this to load the sound: class MyClass { [Embed(source='data/test_snd.mp3')] private var TestSound:Class; private var testSound:Sound;//flash.media.Sound public function MyClass() { testSound = new TestSound(); } Then im just using the play method of the sound object to play it later on. testSound.play();//seems to take a long time to return This as far as I can tell is following the same process as other Flash programs I found, however none of them seem to have this problem. Is there something that I've missed that would cause the play() method to be so slow?

• casting BSTR as char* in a dll; different results depnding on VB/C# caller.

  I have a dll function that takes BSTR parameters. These are casted as char* before being used for other things. When the dll is called from VB code this works fine. However, when it is called from C# code, only the first character is pointed to. Both of these are excel addIns for Pre-2007 and 2007+ versions of Office, which call into a faster C++ AddIn. They actually call it directly, not through Excel. Charset=CharSet.Unicode makes no difference. Any ideas anyone?

  Hi guys I always got this error from my site and it keeps bugging me.I've been trying to figure out the cause of this error but I can't really figure it out. • ServeletException, Property <variable name> not found

  What i'm trying to do is add a new variable to this previously created Managed Bean Hello.java and use it in my xhtml file binding to a text field. But it seems that it is not being found when i run it on the server. So it throws a "ServeletException" and says that the "property 'lname'(my variable) is not found". How do i solve this and why is this happening? • What's a good way to encrypt data using an asymmetric key, that's available to both java and ruby?

  I have a customer that wants to encrypt some data in his database (not passwords; this needs actual encryption, not hashing). The application which will be doing the encrypting/writing is in Java, but the process which will DECRYPT it is behind a secure firewall, and is written in ruby. The idea was to use a public/private key scheme; the java system would encrypt it with the public key, then the process on his local box would use the private key to decrypt it as needed. I'm looking for any experience anyone has doing something like that; my main question is what sorts of libraries on java and ruby can interoperate with the same keys and data.
