• Can't ping localhost/or reach locally hosted domain

  I can't reach a locally hosted domain, and in testing I have discovered I can't ping localhost or the actual IP either. OS is Windows7 64bit, Pro. DNS works, I can ping others on my network, they can ping me, and they can reach the hosted domain. The ONLY problem I have found is that I can't reach the locally hosted domains!   I have been trying to open a hidden default browser from delphi but coulnd't. I tried ShellExecute(self.WindowHandle,'open','www.google.com',nil,nil, SW_HIDE); and I get my chrome browser open but not hidden, and it opens a tab not a new window, also tried with TStartupInfo with the same results. Is there another way to achieve this?

  I have a large table (300 million lines) that I would like to dump to a csv - I need to do some processing that cannot be done with SQL. Right now I am using Squirrel as a client, and it does not apparently deal very well with large datasets - at least as far as I can tell from my own (limited) experience. If I run the query on the actual host, will it use less memory? Thanks for any help.

How is name resolution done in this case, i.e. which IP address does the DNS server return for a host lookup? Or does it return both, and the client selects one of the addresses?
