  It's the Assen round of the 2011 motogp season, and Ducati have launched their GP11.1. The Ducati's front end woes were quite efficiently highlighted throughout the 2010 season, with both Casey and Nicky regularly visiting the gravel traps. Now the question is: was it really a front end issue. What's most probable is: the GP10 never had a front end issue. It was the rear that was out. So what did Stoner's team do? They came with setup changes that sorted out the rear end, while transferring the problem to the front. And Casey has this brilliant ability to push beyond the limits of a vague and erratic front end...and naturally the real problem lay hidden. Like Kevin Cameron said: in human nature, our strengths are our weaknesses. Casey's pure speed came at a lack of fine machinery feel, which ultimately took the Ducati in a wrong development direction.

• Upgrade from 9.10 to 11

  I have an installation in my machine (my version is 9.10 Karmic) and I got a warning to Upgrade to a version 10.04, to me it is okay, and I would like to upgrade to the 10.04, but here is my question. If I do, what will happen to my system of files? All my files? My programs, my apache configuration? All my servers.. Does everything reset to default? Will I lost all my data? Because if YES, will lost everything, why such a warning appears to me? Then the best solution is, format everything and install a brand new ubuntu version 11. Otherwise I still using 9.10 Karmic version,and just update normally as I'm required.. What is the best to do on this situation? Appreciate any help!

• Can I get any logging and error output from Flash?

  To further provide better information for my other question about browsers and Pulse audio, I wanted to see if I could get some kind of helpful log information. I've looked at logs from both Pulseaudio and Firefox, but don't see anything like an error in either of them. The problem I'm experiencing may be coming from Flash. Is there a way I can trap specifically any log output from Flash? Update: I've downloaded the Linux Flash Player 10.3 Plugin content debugger, and I've installed libflashplayer.so in ~/.mozilla/firefox/plugins/, and copied the user/* files to /user. I've also set up mm.cfg to say: ErrorReportingEnable=1 TraceOutputFileEnable=1 MaxWarnings=50 TraceOutputFileName=/home/dave/.macromedia/Flash_Player/Logs/flashlog.txt And I rebooted just to be sure everything was starting fresh. However, after playing a Flash video from Youtube, flashlog.txt is not being generated. How can I be sure that logging is in fact enabled, so I can tell whether I'm simply not getting errors or I haven't set up logging correctly?

• How can I prevent ubuntu from mounting particular partitions/deivices?

  I would like to stop Ubuntu from mounting my other (Windows') partitions automatically (since I do not need it really often - and especially I would like not to automount "System reserved" partition for Windows. There is a similar question here How can I stop Ubuntu 12.04 from mounting Fedora 16's Swap Partition? but! I do not have these partitions added in /etc/fstab. How can I do it ? • creating a google wave clone using php/mysql/jquery

• Pathfinding library

  I'm an amateur game developer and somewhat amateur Java developer as well. I'm trying to find a way to have path finding for my game(s). I've first Googled for some existing Java libraries that have various path-finding implementations, but I've failed to find any. It seems to me that the only way to get pathfinding code is to use it via a game engine (like Unity). But I'd just like to have a library that I can use and make the game loop and other stuff on my own. Failing to find such a library I've tried implementing some algorithms myself. I've managed to make a running A* in Java, but for fancier stuff like D* I find it hard to do it by hand. So then, my question is, are there any Java libraries that contain at least some basic pathfinding algorithms implementations?

• Good book/resource recommendation for HTML5 mobile game development?

  The problem: I am taking an existing, 5 year old, html based MMORTS game and "HTML5-ing" it, "AJAX-ing" it and most importantly, optimizing for mobile devices like iPhone, android etc. For these devices, the application will be packaged as a downloadable app that is a wrapper for a browser which actually shows the game.. The Question Looking for a good book, or books, or in-depth articles that would help me learn: what tools I have in iOS, andriod applications for optimizing an html based game. things like caching of images, etc what kind of connectivity, or interactivity I can expect between the html/javascript pages and the wrapper - can I play sounds in the wrapper by triggering them from javascript? etc tip and tricks to optimize html/html5 & Javascript application to run well on mobile devices ETC :) Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!

I am currently reading a book named "3D Graphics with XNA Game Studio 4.0" by Sean James and have some questions to ask : If i create a effect parameter named lets say SpecularPower and have in my effect a variable named SpecularPower , if i do something like effect.Parameters["SpecularPower"].SetValue(3) That wil change the SpecularPower variable in my effect ? And a second question, not regarding the book : If i have a spaceship and i've created a "boost" functionality that speeds up my spaceship, what effects should i implement to create the impresion oh high speed ?   Hello fellow programmers, I am reading a book on C# and the author is comparing Abstract classes and Interfaces. He claims that if you have the following "abstract class:" abstract class CloneableType { public abstract object Clone(); } Then you cannot do this: public class MiniVan : Car, CloneableType {} This, I understand. However he claims that because of this inability to do multiple inheritance that you should use an interface for CloneableType, like so: public interface ICloneable { object Clone(); } My question is, isn't this somewhat misleading, because you can create an abstract class which is "above" class Car with the method Clone, then have Car inherit that class and then Minivan will inherit Car with all these methods, CloneAble class - Car class - Minivan Class. What do you think? Thanks.

• How to get GameElements (RigidBody) size in Unity

  I've made a prefab consisting of a Cube which I've first scaled to more resemble a brick. There's also a Rigidbody added to the cube (in the prefab). Now I want to use that prefab in a c# script to make a wall out of multiple bricks. My question is, how can I access the dimensions of my brick (width, height, the z dimension size) so that in my script I can make bricks which are placed one next to the other (and then one on top of the other)? I've looked at the documentation for GameObject and Rigidbody but I can't find anything helpful. I want to host a website from my dedicated server with the domain mydomain.com i.e. when I enter mydomain.com from browser it should point to the IP(let's say X.X.X.X) of dedicated server(and a particular folder inside it). • MySQL vs. SQL Server Go daddy, What is the difference bewteen hosted DB and App_Data Db.

  I'm using Goddady for site hosting, and I'm currently using MySQL, because there are less limits on size,etc. My question is what is the difference between using a hosted Godaddy Db such as MySQL vs. creating a SQL Serverdatabase in the the App_Data folder? My guess is security? Would it be a bad idea to use a SQL ServerDB thats located in the App_Data folder? Additional Well I am able to create a .mdf (SQL Server DB file) in the App_Data folder, but I'm really unsure if should use that or not, If I did use it it would simplify using some of the Microsoft tools. Like I said my guess is that it would be less secure, but I don't really know. I know I have a 10gb, file system limit, so I'm assuming my db would have to share that space.

• Javascript and PHP how should I en/decode my data

I whould like to know in what encryption should I encode my data and why first of all, I use GET method because it is search engine inside website. second, I use RTL language (hebrew) and thrid which basically is why I ask this question - firefox and safari (as I understood) encode and decode urls automaticly so if I encoded url, in firefox I will see it decoded which is good but if I copy-paste the url to the address bar and than enter the site firefox encode the uncoded url to utf (i think). anyway, what en/decode should I use, and how can I overcome the firefox auto en/decode?

• Would learning any (linguistic) language in particular further your programming career?

  It seems apparent that English is the dominant international language for programming based on previous P.SE questions (though a highly upvoted comment correctly points out that asking a question like that on a predominantly English site will skew the results). However, is there benefit in learning a foreign language for software development? For example, do the Chinese have completely different software tools, languages, technologies, etc? How about Japanese, Russian, and other non-latin based languages? Is there an entire world of software development languages, tools and so on that only exist in these other languages? Or do people that know these languages use the tools and languages we know and love?

  This question already has an answer here: Where can I get a device with 'Ubuntu for phones' pre-installed? 1 answer I really like the look of Ubuntu touch and I want it ASAP, however, I am NOT willing to buy a device simply to port ubuntu touch on it. I don't want to void all warranties and take any risks. Therefore, I am really just waiting for official ubuntu touch hardware (devices made for ubuntu touch). I can't find any rumours or estimated release dates online, in fact, I can't find out anything at all. Can anyone? If so, what and where? When do you think they'll be official hardware?   You can often hear that programmers should learn many different languages to improve themselves. I still go to school and don't have big programming experience (a little more than year). But what was noble intention to improve programming skills turned into some kind of OCD: I feel that I won't calm down until I learn all relatively known programming languages. And here is question itself: Will being programming languages polyglot actually help you (And I don't mean usual "Programmer should know at least all paradigms", I mean really all languages you usually hear about)? Does anybody have similar experience? Does it help with job/skills/career? How often are you able to apply those skills?

• Design Patterns: Should I learn them?

  So it's kinda weird asking two questions back-to-back, but they aren't very related and I didn't want to combine them, but I'm not spamming questions, I promise! Anyway, I'm a recent college grad, and my education only touched on design patterns...we implemented a few simple ones, touched on the fact that there were more complicated ones, and were instructed to turn to the GoF book if we wanted to learn more. My question is, is it worth learning the patterns in the GoF book? To me, it's always seemed counter-intuitive to try and make a problem fit a classic pattern, but obviously the book, and the patterns, are famous for a reason. Do they show up enough that I should be learning them? Thanks again!

• Testing loses its effectiveness if all programmers don't use them

  Let's assume you are convinced that the extra time spent unit testing has merit and improves production. Does that still hold up when everyone working on the same code doesn't use them? This question makes me wonder if fixing tests that everyone doesn't use is a waste of time. If you correct a test so the new code will pass, you're assuming the new code is correct. The person updating the test better have a firm understanding of the reasoning behind the code change and decide if the test or the new code needs to be fixed. This much inconsistency in a team when it comes to testing is probably an indication of other problems as well. There is a certain amount of risk involved that someone else on the team will alter code that is covered by testing. Is this the point where testing becomes counter-productive?
