  Running RSH commands on a Windows box against a Linux box works only for the administrator user. Is there a file somewhere that has a list of users that can run commands remotely? More Info The server configuration is automated by VMware's product... There's no /etc/hosts.equiv file setup but there is a /root/.rhosts file with an entry of [IP ADDRESS] +. The SUA client C:\Windows\SUA\bin\rsh can login when run as the local administrator account but no other user can login. The error is: rcmd: unknown user: [username]. The command I'm trying to run is: rsh -l root [IP ADDRESS] ls.

  I was trying to make apache 2.2 reject connections if MaxClients was reached, to do this I found the directive ListenBacklog.To test it, I configured apache in the following way: <IfModule mpm_prefork_module> StartServers 5 MinSpareServers 5 MaxSpareServers 10 MaxClients 10 ListenBacklog 1 MaxRequestsPerChild 0 </IfModule> I've made a little script in JMeter to test this. The test launchs 50 users in 1 second (it requests a phpinfo page) but none is rejected, they all wait! I don't understand how this directive works... my operating system is Ubuntu.

• Hudson or Jenkins

  We have been using Hudson for quite a while and we loved it. Now many Hudson-developers have "left the building" to create their own: Jenkins (which means the project has been forked). As Hudson/Jenkins users, we are now worried whether we should opt for the original "big and stable" producer Oracle, or the "small and dynamic" newcomer Jenkins. EDIT: Our worries are mainly due to the fact that we did not really hear about this fork/split through any official ways. It looks like a guerilla action including the hijacking of logos and trademarks (after all, the copyright must be at Oracle, no? I'm not sure). So we're kinda missing professionalism here, as in well-organised course of action involving press relases, etc. Maybe we just missed that... What are good objective reasons to decide for either project in the future? Can we postpone that decision until later, or is that too risky? • Can you authenticate into SSAS with AD LDS (ADAM) accounts?

  I'm very new to AD LDS and experienced but not qualified with SSAS, so my apologies for my ignorances with these. We have a couple implementations where we expose SSAS via an HTTPS proxy (msmdpump.dll) and currently we have a temporary domain setup handling this (where our end-users have a second account+creds to manage because of this = non-ideal). I want to move us towards a more permanent solution which I'm thinking of moving all authentication to AD LDS for our web apps, SSAS, and others. However, SSAS is where I'm concerned about this. I know SSAS requires Windows Authentication and to play nicely, and that this ultimately means Active Directory will be involved. Is there a way to get this done with AD LDS instead of having to use a full AD DS implementation? If so, how? (Note: My question over at StackOverflow had a suggestion that I post this question here on ServerFault instead. My apologies if I'm not asking in the right forum.)

  Hi, I am trying to set up port forwarding on a linux box to a IIS webserver on my internal network. The web server sits on Windows 2003 Server. My linux box has eth0 - Internet connection eth1 - internal subnet (10.10.10.x) eth2 - 2nd internal subnet (129.168.0.x) dhcp interface my webserver is on the eth2 interface (192.168.0.6) I am doing port forwarding for port 80 with no avail. I use the same set of rules to port forward to a different webserver and it works. • ISA forms authentication problems after installing moss sp2

  Guys I have a problem that's flared back up after installing WSS and MOSS service pack 2. The problem centers around the users being prompted to enter credentials when interacting with office documents. This problem came up before and I was able to go into ISA server and configure a persistent cookie on the web listener. As we all know when configuring a cookie you have two options use only on private computers or use on all computers. If I select use on all computers I can't even log in to Sharepoint from the forms page however if I select use only on private computer I'm able to log in and also I don't get prompted when opening office documents. So I would like to ask has something changed with Sharepoint service pack 2 because that’s the only change that’s been made to my environment.

  The title of the question might be misleading because I'm not an expert and I'm trying to learn the proper terminology. That being said, I'm wondering if it's possible to setup a wildcard DNS record for any number of dot separation in domain names and have them all point to the network root. This is for WordPress multisite, users will have the option of choosing a mapped domain name, I want to configure my DNS so that both mysite.co.uk.network.com and mysite.com.network.com are valid (I realize this is a but ugly, but WordPress multisite requires that each site have a unique site_url and I'd prefer to preserve the period-delimited appearance if it's possible).

  I'm developing software for tablet pcs and so far I've used some lenovo's (x41), some toshiba's (portege m200) and some gateways (M275). Granted: the machines we've gotten have predominantly been refurbs, but they're failing 80-90% of the time. Part of the reason that they're failing is users inevitably dropping them, so I'm looking at potentially some rugged tablet pcs. The problem that I'm running into is that Current tablet pcs are high spec (much higher than I'm looking for at least) The rugged tablet manufacturer space seems to be filled with lots of small companies that I don't trust yet. I'm looking for tablet PCs (keyboard or no) that can support: XP tpc (optional win 7) single core 1.5-2ghz 1gb ram wifi optional gsm optional gps very optional vehicle docking solutions The budget I've got is tight (but slightly flexible - So are there any reputable tablet pc vendors out there that can do this.

• SBS2003 OWA not displaying images on external side

  I've got an SBS 2003 server with companyweb/remote owa site. After authenticating remotely to the https:/servername/remote site, and then clicking on Use Outlook Web Access, the mail/owa site displays only limited amounts of data with Loading... displayed (see first image). This is different when viewing the site on the server itself (see second image). Different browsers will display different types of data (last screenshot is Chrome - first two are IE). I feel IIS permissions on the virtual directories is the cause, but not certain. Forms-based authentication etc is working ok etc. Any suggestions? Authentication and getting email via ActiveSync is not a problem. I don't want to break anything, and it's not a major problem because the users only get their email via outlook and iphones anyway without problems. I'm more interested in finding out for my own info so please give me some suggestions to try. Thanks for looking!

• Windows Service and Group Policy unable to access network share on Win2008 Domain

  I have one computer on my domain that has suddenly stopped receiving software updates via group policy. Domain logins still work, and group policy on the machine is still being updated, so it knows that there are new packages to install and where to look for them, but every time it tries to install a package, it throws a 1622 error (location not found). Logged in users can reach the same network shares, and every other computer on network is installing the packages. Further investigation found that other services running as "System" on the problematic computer are also unable to authenticate to network shares. How do I diagnose/fix this computer's account in Active Directory? The computer account exists, and is a member of "Domain Computers" - or is there something else I should be looking at?

One ISP was criticized for it's low security conditions, and when i heard this i started to think: If one gets an unauthorized access to the mainframe computer / internal network of the ISP, then wouldn't he be able to sniff all the traffic ? Because the ISP is providing the internet connection for the user so all traffic that sends and transmits a user travels via the ISP, right ? What security solutions (talking about computer security) are being implemented by other ISP in order to protect themselves and their users ? If all the connections are being sent via a special computer, how secure it is and how can be we sure that it's really safe ? And what kind of computers are those who serve as backbones for the ISP ? • Plex won't enter my home directory or other partitions

  I just installed the Plex media server from the Ubuntu Software Center, and opened the web interface. I wanted to start by adding a collection. When it gave me a file browser, I wanted to go to /home/robin/Videos. /home is as far as I got. It showed robin, with an arrow in front of it, but when I tried to expand the directory tree it was empty. The same happened when trying to access /media/Data. For me it's quite useless like this, as all of my media files are inside those 2 directories. Help would be much appreciated. My first guess seemed to be a correct one; It is, as always, a permissions problem. How do I give plex access to my home folder without also giving other users access to it? • sudo: apache restarting a service on CentOS

  I need my web app to restart the dansguardian service (on CentOS) so it needs to run '/sbin/service dansguardian restart' I have a shellscript in /home/topological called apacherestart.sh which does the following: #!/bin/sh id=`id` /sbin/service dansguardian restart r=$? return $r This runs ok (logger statement in script for testing output to syslog, so I know it's running) To make it run, I put this in /etc/sudoers: User_Alias APACHE=www # Cmnd alias specification Cmnd_Alias HTTPRESTART=/home/topological/apacherestart.sh,/sbin/e-smith/db,/etc/rc7.d/S91dansguardian # Defaults specification # User privilege specification root ALL=(ALL) ALL APACHE ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: HTTPRESTART So far so good. But the service does not restart. To test this I created a user david, and fudged the uid/gid in /etc/passwd to be the same as www: www:x:102:102:e-smith web server:/home/e-smith:/bin/false david:x:102:102:David:/home/e-smith/files/users/david:/bin/bash then logged in as david and tried to run the apacherestart.sh. The problem I get is: /etc/rc7.d/S91dansguardian: line 51: /sbin/e-smith/db: Permission denied even though S91dansguardian and db are in the sudoers command list. Any ideas?

  I wanted to see colorized filenames when I typed dir in Powershell. So, I added the Set-ChildItemColor function from here to my profile file. I also added this line at the end of the profile file to override the dir alias: Set-Alias dir Get-ChildItemColor Now, when I open Powershell, I get this error: Set-Alias : The AllScope option cannot be removed from the alias 'dir'. • Does SCP lock the file it is transfering?

  Have a situation where we have an application log sitting out on an AIX server. The log is being continually written to from the application, and we have users on Windows who want to view the file. What they've been doing is using WinSCP to transfer the file to their desktop and they open it using a text editor. What I think might be happening is scp is locking the file for the duration of the transfer, and the application ceases to be able to write to the file. The reason I believe this is the log file will stop growing at random points during the day. Is that what perhaps is going on?
