• Options for secure git -repo hosting?

  I need a secure git -repo host, either by third-party or by myself. I am not sure how so outlining some ideas. Please, answer how you manage git -repos securely -- do you use some service or do you use only your 'legs' -approach? Afaik Bitbucket.org and Github.com are missing Gmail -style second-verification. Now I need this kind of login-system with password and mobile-phone to access the administration things in the git -hosting or ability to disable this kind of access without private -key. • How do I install Ubuntu to a USB key?

  If you are hurrying to reply, System ? Administration ? StartUp Disk Creator -- no, that's not what I'm talking about. I want to try Ubuntu 11.04's Unity without touching my existing Ubuntu install. To do this, I need to install the nVidia drivers first (sigh). To do this, I need changes to persist a reboot. To do this, I need to really install Ubuntu on a USB key. How do you do that? What I tried I tried to make a USB key from Testdrive, then boot from it, then choose "Install Ubuntu." The installer refused to install to the installation media itself. I tried, from my installed copy of Ubuntu: sudo kvm /dev/sdb --cdrom .cache/testdrive/iso/ubuntu_natty-desktop-i386.iso ...but the installer didn't detect the disk properly.

  For years, I’ve been using the “Remote Desktops” mmc plugin to manage servers in our infrastructure.  I’ve upgraded to Windows 8 and Remote Desktops is nowhere to be found!  I search and searched and came across a forum listing saying “Why don’t you just use Remove Desktop Connection Manager?” I downloaded it and started using it and its WAY better than Remote Desktops!  I’m glad they took it out and I discovered this tool.  I wish I had discovered this two years ago! Most cloud deployments today are either private or public. It is also possible to connect a private cloud and a public cloud to form a hybrid cloud. A private cloud is for the exclusive use of an organization. Enterprises, universities and government agencies throughout the world are using private clouds. Some have designed, built and now manage their private clouds. Others use a private cloud that was built by and is now managed by a provider, hosted either onsite or at the provider’s datacenter. Because private clouds are for exclusive use, they are usually the option chosen by organizations with concerns about data security and guaranteed performance. Public clouds are open to anyone with an Internet connection. Because they require no capital investment from their users, they are particularly attractive to companies with limited resources in less regulated environments and for temporary workloads such as development and test environments. Public clouds offer a range of products, from end-user software packages to more basic services such as databases or operating environments. Public clouds may also offer cloud services such as a disaster recovery for a private cloud, or the ability to “cloudburst” a temporary workload spike from a private cloud to a public cloud. These are examples of a hybrid cloud. These are most feasible when the private and public clouds are built with similar technologies. Usually people think of a public cloud in terms of a user role, e.g., “Which public cloud should I consider using?” But someone needs to own and manage that public cloud. The company who owns and operates a public cloud is known as a public cloud provider. I find programming so interesting that I haven't applied for any job since my graduation. Currently I am staying home and just trying to acquire in-depth knowledge of PHP programming. • how do i stop root from running a program

  I would like to prevent my root user from running certain applications that can change the permissions of files which in turn prevents normal users from running those applications again. for example, if i sudo to root, and then run thunderbird from the command prompt, it changes the permissions of files within my home dir / profile so i can no longer run it as a normal user; what i would like to do is prevent root from running thunderbird and hence stop this user error from repeating itself. any suggestions? to clarify, if i have a lot of administration to do i use "sudo -s" which gives me a root shell, its just once a year or so, i shoot myself in the foot.

• Shader Model 3.0 not available

  I have Acer 4745G with ATI HD 5650 1GB VRAM. After I installed the COD Black Ops trough Wine Playonlinux and successfully installed, and I play the game and then appear message "Shader Model 3.0 not available". I have installed ATI driver 11.8 when I trying this game. And then I'm trying to install the driver from menu "System Administration Additional Driver, it doesn't work. I cannot log in, in the screen appear only the text for log in. And then I uninstall it trough recovery mode. And then I download ATI driver 11.11 from official ATI/AMD website, and then I restart my computer and my screen appearing only text again. I'm using Ubuntu (Ultimate Edition) 11.04. How to overcome this problem?

• Advice: should I focus on PHP + MySQL, or split my time for more JS and CSS? [closed]

  I started learning web development about three months ago (in between working my regular job), and I'm finally starting to get some vague, distant notion of understanding. I find the server-side stuff the most interesting; though I've not gone anywhere near Apache quite yet, which I assume will be necessary at some point. As cool as toying around with visuals and UI is, programming and database stuff inspires me with new ideas and possibilities every minute (I've even bought, on a whim, a wonderfully dry bunch of books on database theory and relational algebra). And whatever CSS or Javascript tutorial I'm doing, it often feels like a distraction from the PHP/MySQL stuff I'd rather be playing with. For someone like me who's just starting out, which is the most advisable course of action? (in terms of being marketable as a programmer): To focus on PHP and SQL stuff exclusively, and only once I master those to diversify my skills. To first learn all three (PHP/MySQL, Javascript, CSS and design) and only once I'm fluent in all three focus on PHP and databases?

• Class design for calling "the same method" on different classes from one place

  Let me introduce my situation: I have Java EE application and in one package, I want to have classes which will act primarily as cache for some data from database, for example: class that will hold all articles for our website class that will hold all categories etc. Every class should have some update() method, which will update data for that class from database and also some other methods for data manipulation specific for that data type. Now, I would like to call update() method for all class instances (there will be exactly one class instance for every class) from one place. What is the best design?

  Today I installed nut on my Ubuntu server (14.03). $ uname -a Linux boson 3.13.0-24-generic #47-Ubuntu SMP Fri May 2 23:30:00 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux The UPS is connected to another server (called neutron), so I use nut-client to keep tabs on the UPS state. When I do sudo upsc [email protected] I get: Init SSL without certificate database battery.charge: 15 battery.charge.low: 10 battery.charge.warning: 50 battery.date: not set battery.mfr.date: 2012/11/27 : The first line of the output concerns me. I've not seen this on other installations of nut on Debian-based servers. What can I do to get rid of that line? EDIT: This "Init SSL without certificate database" is extra annoying because it is not part of the output of upsc and therefore I cannot grep it out.
