I've installed a clean FreeBSD server and now I would like to know if there's an easy way to list all the ports installed on the production server, get that list out and input that to the new server, so I can easily install all the same apps and same versions than in the production machine.     I have a number of small portable apps and utilities. Where does Microsoft recommend we keep these? Lots of installed apps install themselves into \users{username}\appdata\local but it doesn't make much sense for me to put stuff there myself. \program files\ doesn't seem right either because non admin users don't have write access there. Is it recommended to create a \users{username}\applications directory?

    If anyone has had more than a couple of Microsoft tools or products installed (or a local install of the MSDN library) side by side, you might have noticed that opening help (hitting F1) or opening, say, SQL Server Books Online causes the help indexes to be re-indexed - this is usually after installing a new product or tool. This can be a really, really time consuming exercise! Does anyone know a way to prevent or opt out of having combined help indexes? At best, even just preventing the reindexing at all?

In any case, I can't connect to my WPA network - when I click on it in the nm-applet and it asks me to authenticate my only options are: WEP 10/128-bit key WEP 128-bit Passphrase LEAP Dynamic WEP (802.1x) wpa_supplicant is indeed installed, yet WPA does not get listed... any ideas?

    I need to have at least one microphone on Windows to make Skype calls, but i have a VPS with Windows 2003 server with no audio device. I googled a lot and finally i found something called "Virtual Audio Cable", a tool to install virtual audio drivers ( http://software.muzychenko.net/eng/vac.html ). I tried many times but i couldn't get this driver work, so i'm asking if someone know a similar solution, i mean a virtual microphone or a way to make skype working without any microphone. When I try to create a "Self Extracting Installer" option, at the end of the install it runs my batch file and it appears to be extracting all the files just before it does that, but after extraction, the files are nowhere to be found (except within the .7z archive).     We have quite a few hp printers and I noticed now they all use the HP Universal printer driver which I added to the printer server (2003 serveR) but when someone on win7 64 bit tries to install the printer they still get an error that says no driver was found on the server for this printer. I don't have any problems with our canon's and Dells but they supply a driver for each model unlike hp who is going to this universal driver route which frankly I don't like. any ideas? thanks. Luc

Is there a way around this? I.e another way of installing without the need for a shortcut? I've tried Python portable but as it doesn't add anything to the registry it can't be detected.

    I am trying to get a Ruby on Rails app hosted free somewhere, and Heroku is looking like my last resource. It is supposed to work on Linux, and the gem installs with no errors, but whenever I run any Heroku command it spits out several errors, all connected, and talking about a failed require. I looked it up in the code, and it says: require 'readline' That is it. I have tried to install every variation of libreadline that I can find and think of, but none of it makes any difference.
