• Ajax based progress bar

  I am developing a progress bar using Ajax. My client side code is working fine, but I have issue at server side. I am using C based CGI. if(i == inc && pb_inc<=100) { fptr = fopen("progress_bar.txt", "w"); fprintf(fptr,"%d", j); fclose(fptr); pb_inc++; } basically I am increasing progress bar after certain number of bytes. What I see here is that the CGI doesn't let display any data to text file until it has sent all the data to file one by one. i have referred to http://www.redips.net/javascript/ajax-progress-bar/ Any idea whats happening here?

  Greeting all, "iptables -L" gives the following output [root@ibmd ~]# iptables -L Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Server has global IP and can be accessed from outer IPs.But I cannot ping nor telnet to any port (including TCP 80) from the server. They are always in the 5th field, which I can grab, but they appear at different places within a comma-separated list in the 5th field. Can somebody give me a regex to grab just the email address (delimeted by commas) from a line in this file? • Query size of block device file in Python

  Hello. I have a Python script that reads a file (typically from optical media) marking the unreadable sectors, to allow a re-attempt to read said unreadable sectors on a different optical reader. I discovered that my script does not work with block devices (e.g. /dev/sr0), in order to create a copy of the contained ISO9660/UDF filesystem, because os.stat().st_size is zero. The algorithm currently needs to know the filesize in advance; I can change that, but the issue (of knowing the block device size) remains, and it's not answered here, so I open this question. (about non-special files) Therefore, I'm asking: in Python, how can I get the file size of a block device file?

  Sometimes, when running a Mono .NET application (it seems to not depend on the input data, as it does not change), I run into following situation: when trying to Dequeue an element from a (non-empty, I check its Count beforehand) Queue, an exception is thrown: Unhandled Exception: System.InvalidOperationException: Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object at System.Collections.Generic.Queue1[DBWorkItem].Peek ()[0x00000] at System.Collections.Generic.Queue1[DBWorkItem].Dequeue () [0x00000] at DBProcessor.process (System.Object q) [0x0006b] in <... Though I can certainly catch this exception, the element is dequeued and lost. Has anyone else encountered this behavior, too?

  I'm trying to resize an ext4 filesystem on a Fedora 11 box. Using fsdisk and lvm, I was able to grow the partition and logical volume containing the filesystem. When I try to run resize2fs on the device containing the filesystem (/dev/sda2 in this case), I get: "Device or resource busy while trying to open /dev/sda2, Couldn't find valid filesystem superblock" I've tried this from a rescue disk that doesn't have the filesystem mounted, no joy. Maybe resize2fs doesn't know about ext4?

By default, this script places executable to /usr/local/bin, and shared library to /usr/local/lib. In this case my program may be executed by any user by typing its name in the command line. Suppose that user selects custom installation directory, like ~/myprogram/. Is it user's responsibility to ensure that my program may be executed, or my installation script must do this?

  I'm buying a Server from a person (that I don't know really well) and I want to make sure that the previous owner hasn't got any access anymore. It's an Ubuntu Virtual Server and I already received the admin access (via shell). How can I find out if there are still other accounts left, who are still able to access my server (e.g. with a still existing shell account, ftp or another type of user account)? • Problem with Ruby script output being stored into a file

  I have a Ruby script that outputs a heap of text. As an example: puts "line 1" puts "line 2" puts "line 3" # etc... (obviously, this isn't how my script works..) There's not a lot of data - perhaps about 8kb of character data in total. When I run the script on the command line, it works as expected: $ ./my-script.rb line 1 line 2 line 3 But, when I push it into a file, the output is truncated at exactly 4096 bytes: $ ./my-script.rb > output.txt What would cause it to stop at 4kb?

• What is the effect of running an application with "Unlimited Stack" size

  Hello All, I have inherited some code that I need to maintain that can be less than stable at times. The previous people are no longer available to query as to why they ran the application in an environment with unlimited stack set, I am curious what the effects of this could be? The application seems to have some unpredictable memory bugs that we cannot find and running the application under valgrind is not an option because it slows the application down so much that we cannot actually run it. So any thoughts on what the effects of this might be are appreciated. Thank you.

• Inode to device information

  I have 3 questions: I want to figure out if a file belongs to a USB device given the file inode. By looking in the latest kernel sources (2.6.33) on LXR, I think one can find that information by following pointers as follows: inode-super_block-block_device-backing_dev_info-device-device_driver(or device_type). However, the kernel that I am working with - 2.6.22.14 - does not have struct device pointer in the backing_dev_info object. So how can I figure out to which device does a file belong to from just the inode? I see that each of the inode, super_block and block_device contain an object of type 'dev_t'. But even after searching a lot, I could not find out how to convert 'dev_t' into struct device *. Is there any way to get that infomation? I tried to print device major and minor numbers using imajor(inode) and iminor(inode). However, for every file - belonging to hdd or usb - it always prints major and minor number as zero. Why would that be happening? I searched online for USB major numbers and I found out that major number for a USB is 180. • How to completely wipe rubygems along with rails etc

  Ok, so I decided I'd be cool and try to use Rails3 that's in beta. Then, things were getting hard to manage so I got rvm. I installed ruby 1.9.2-head in rvm and things were working, and then a computer restart later rails wouldn't start up. So I figured I'd just try running the system ruby and start rails in it. same error. Then, I uninstalled rails3 and got rails: no such file or directory type errors.. So now I'm royally screwed because rails2 is still installed but will not uninstall because of invisible dependencies, along with a lot of other random gems. How do I completely clear out all ruby gems and such so I can start anew?

• PHP Segmentation fault when started from crond

  Hello, I've a php script that's started each minute from cron. It almost always runs without any problem, except for about 10 times within 24h. The times it fails I get a segmentation fault like: bin/sh: line 1: 21815 Segmentation fault /usr/bin/myscript The number after "line 1:" is always different. I'm running: PHP 5.2.6-1+lenny8 with Suhosin-Patch 0.9.6.2 (cli) (built: Mar 14 2010 08:14:04) Is this a problem with my version of PHP? Is there a way to debug this? I have the feeling it crashes when the server load is high, but there's absolutely no prove for this. Any feedback is welcome!

• Running Solr on VPS problems

  I have a VPS with Ubuntu OS. I run solr om my local machine (windows xp laptop) just fine. I have configured Jetty, and Solr just the same way as on my computer, but on the server. I have also downloaded the JRE and installed it on the server. However, whenever I try to run the start.jar file, the PuTTY terminal shows a bunch of text but gets stuck. I could pase the text here but it is very long, so unless somebody wants to see it I wont. Also, I cant view the solr admin page at all. Does anybody have experience in this kind of problem? Maybe java isn't correctly installed? It is a VPS so maybe installation is different.
