• After restart desktop totally black, taskbar visible, can't click items in Windows Explorer

  Situation: Windows Vista, latest updates. After restarting to complete an installation, I find myself looking at a totally black windows desktop without any icons. The start menu and taskbar, including quickstart icons, appears. Some, but not all task bar tray icons appear. The systems seems stable. When I open Windows Explorer and click "desktop" in the folder treeview, the cursor immediately jumps back to the previously selected item. No error. Same when clicking on my user's profile or my documents. When I try "save as" in, say, Notepad, nothing happens, the dialog box (which defaults to "my documents") doesn't even show. Again, no error. Nothing serious afaict in the event log. Typing something in Start Search shows "Search failed to initialize". Most programs, including Internet Explorer, Firefox etc work as expected. Anybody ever encountered such abomination?

• How to display workflow related tasks in the item display page where the workflow is currently running on in SharePoint2013

  In one of the project, I need to display workflow related tasks in the item display page where the workflow is currently running on. To achieve this, I’d like to add the tasks list view web part and using the connected web part to achieve this.(ID=workflowitemid) However, to make it work I need to unhide the workflowitemid field in the task list, as it is hidden field and also cantogglehidden field is set to false. I need to use reflection to change the cantogglehidden field to true as it only has getter in the API and then I am able to unhide the field. You can download the script here. However, it is not ideal (make your environment not supported by Microsoft) to display tasks this way. Another way to display the related task is to use SharePoint designer solution with List view web part and data source. Here are the steps. 1. Create a new list display form as below 2. Edit the custom display form in advanced mode. 3. Find the PlaceHolderMain contentplace hoder and insert the DataView by choosing the associated workflow tasks list as below 4. Go to the List View Tools >> OPTIONS 5. Create a Parameter called workflowitemId Parameter which retrieve the value from the ID querystring as below 6. Create a filter based on UIVersion = workflowitemId as below ,we are going to change the UIVersion to WorkflowItemId property later as WorkflowItemId is a hidden field and cannot be selected from the wizard. 7. Replace UIVersion with WorkflowItemId in the caml for the XsltListViewWebPart. From: TO 8. Go to the new custom display page at http://yourserver/Lists/aa/CustomDisplayPage.aspx?ID=414, you will see the associated tasks are showing in the page.   I am trying to use MATCH() and/or LOOKUP() in LibreOffice Calc. I have the "Search criteria = and < must apply to whole cells" and the "Enable regular expressions in formulas" options selected. The item I am looking for is a multi word string. How do I provide a search criteria as a cell reference (E3) in to LOOKUP(E3, B1:B20, C1:C20) and have it match the value in B1:B20 EXACTLY? Right now it is matching partial strings rather than matching the cell values exactly.

• Restore more than 250 files using DPM 2010 and PowerShell

  I've got what should be a fairly simple task: restore the following files from DPM: D:\inetpub\wwwroot\*\index.* I followed the instructions in this TechNet wiki and pretty much thought I had it. Unfortunately, the New-SearchOption commandlet can only return 250 results, and this search would generate way more results than that. So actually only the first 250 files were restored, which is no use to anybody. Does anyone know of any way to get around the 250 search results limit? I guess it would be possible to get the subdirectories of D:\inetpub\wwwroot and loop through them in turn, but I kind of want to keep this fairly simple as it is only for this task.

• Plugin 'InnoDB' registration as a STORAGE ENGINE failed. On win 7

  I have had to reinstall MySQL, however the service is failing to start with the above cause listed in evnt viewer. One solution is apparently to delete a couple of files prefixed with 'ib_logfile' which represent any old databases. However I do not have these files, and my service is still failing to start ... ? When I say I don't have these files I did a search using the windows search with zero results, and they are definitely not present in my mysql install directory. And I don't have the "documents and setting/appilcation data' folder referenced in link. In fact I only have only one mysql install directory, I know where that is - what do I need to delete/change ? The instance is configured OK, I ran that as administrator and it is listed in services, but the service itself fails to start Any tips, other than going over to postgresql ?

• Gmail: Find emails that do not have a label

  Hello, I am trying to search for all of my mail that does not have a label. I label all of my mail then archive it but I think throughout the years I have forgotten some. Is there anyway I can search for all mail that does not have a label? Idea I had: Go to my All Mail and apply an arbitrary label to all of them, then go to each of my labels and remove my arbitrary one. However, is there a quick way to add a label to ALL mail for this idea to work? Also, I think this will apply it to even my sent mail instead of just mail that was sent to me? Any ideas/suggestions would be great. Thanks!

• Do or can robots cause considerable performance issues?

  So the question in the title is exactly what I am trying to find out. My case is: At work we are in a discussion with team members who seem to think bots will cause us problems relating to performance when running on our services website. Out setup: Lets say I have site www.mysite.co.uk this is a shop window to our online services which sit on www.mysiteonline.co.uk. When people search in google for mysite they see mysiteonline.co.uk as well as mysite.co.uk. Cases against stopping bots crawling: We don't store gb's of data publicly available on the web Most friendly bots, if they were to cause issues would have done so already In our instance the bots can't crawl the site because it requires username & password Stopping bots with robot .txt causes an issue with seo (ref.1) If it was a malicious bot, it would ignore robot.txt or meta tags anyway Ref 1. If we were to block mysiteonline.co.uk from having robots crawl this will affect seo rankings and make it inconvenient for users who actively search for mysite to find mysiteonline. Which we can prove is the case for a good portion of our users.

• Blogger still visible after moving to WP; Google Indexing issues after moving from Blogger to WP

  I recently migrated from Blogger to Wordpress and am having two major transition issues that are really hurting. Despite literally hours of searching and experimenting, I cannot resolve the following: ISSUE ONE: I fixed all of my old blogger links to 301 redirect successfully to my WP links (the 2 structures are different and I realized too late), but my old blogger blog is still sometimes visible! (the 2 designs are completely different) I had 31 hits on my blogger site just yesterday. I have updated my privacy settings to hide my blogger blog from search engines and not be visible on blogger. I also removed my custom domain from blogger already as well. HELP! Not sure how to stop this. ISSUE two: Despite submitting a new site map and reindexing my pages for my WP blog, I am not visible in search engines, although I was very visible previously. In fact, some of my OLD links are showing up. Am I being penalized?? Any thoughts on how to fix. THANK YOU! Erin my site: www.thelawstudentswife.com

  This has been a burning question for me ever since and I think it's interesting enough to discuss it on the forums. As most will know, in websites we include anchor links, stylesheets, script files (javascript) and images. For anchor links we use the form <a href="..." /> For stylesheets we may use the form <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="..." /> For javascript we may use <script src="..." /> For images we use <img src="..." /> So, the question is this: How do we know that what is in the link pointer (i.e. replacing the ... in each example) is a local file or a foreign entity? To make it clear, lets say I create a local file named "ashish.com". Now, my purpose is to create a link so that anybody who clicks on it may download it. So, my code would be thus: <a href="ashish.com">Download It</a> But this makes it ambiguous. I could also be referring to a website named "ashish.com" So, how does the computer magically know which one I mean? Or does it even know this? What would happen in such a scenario?

• How is my ISP DNS hijacking AFTER all these precautions?

  In IE9 when I search for anything my ISP hijacks google search and I get this result. To add complication to this I've already changed the default DNS servers (OpenDNS) months ago. This only happens in IE9; even after machine reboots and cache flushing. I even have my router (dd-wrt) intercepting all requests for DNS and I am still getting this result. I have all extensions disabled and there are no toolbars. This is IE9 from M$. This is not malware; it happens all machines with IE installed (even IE7/8).

  Possible Duplicate: Remove auto-complete field entries in Google Chrome Ok... so this is embarrassing. I typed in "boobs" on EncyclopediaDramatica's search because, well, it's a really funny page. But now I've got a problem... EVERY TIME I click a search feild in Chrome now, it shows "boobs" as the first suggestion in the drop down! This is not really socially acceptable as this laptop goes with me everywhere and Chrome is my primary browser. Is there a way I can isolate and remove just that one entry?

• ldap client cannot contact ldap server

However, I configured another Ubuntu 12.04 server as a ldap client for authentication but I cannot contact the server. • MS Access: Why can I no longer right-click to add a hyperlink?

  I've been working in an MS Access system for a while now. It's a form system where users enter data, add links, contacts etc. Pretty simple. On the form is a hyperlink field. For months I could right-click the field, and from the popup context menu select Hyperlink Add a hyperlink (something like that). This would allow me to browse to a network location, select a folder, click okay, and have the path automatically added to the field. Then it stopped working. It works fine for everyrone else but not me. What's stranger, if I go to another machine and login, I get the functionality back. Any ideas?

  I need to compare two binary files and get output in form for every different byte. So if file1.bin is 00 90 00 11 in binary form and file2.bin is 00 91 00 10 I want to get something like 00000001 90 91 00000003 11 10 what is the easiest way to accomplish the goal? Standard tool? Some 3rd party tool? inb4: cmp -l should be killed with fire,it uses decimal system for offsets and octal for bytes. "Consistency for losers" must be cmp's motto.

• passing URL vars to a wordpress page and pretty-fying it with .htaccess

  I have wordpress installed in a directory called welcome, and /welcome/samples is a "page" (created via Wordpress). • how do I write a functional specification quickly and efficiently

  So I just read some fabulous articles by Joel on specs here. (Was written in 2000!!) I read all 4 parts, but Im looking for some methodical approaches to writing my specs. Im the only lonely dev, working on this fairly complicated app (or family of apps) for a very well known finance company. I've never made something this serious, I started out writing something like a bad spec, an overview of some sorts, and it has wasted a LOT of my time. Ive also made 3 mockup-kinda-thingies for my client so I have a good understanding of what they want. Also released a preview (a throw away working app with the most basic workflow), and Ive only written and tested some of the very core/base systems. I think the mistake Ive been making so far is not writing a detailed spec, so Im getting to it now. So the whole thing comprises of An MVC website (for admins & data viewing) 2 Silverlight modules (For 2 specific tasks) 1 Desktop Application Im totally short on time, resources and need to get this done quick, also, need to make sure these guys read it up equally quick and painlessly. So how do I go about it, Im looking for any tips, any real world stuff, how do you guys usually do it? Do you make a mock screenie of every dialog/form/page? Im thinking of making a dummy asp.net web forms project, then filling in html files in folders and making it look like my mvc url structure. Then having a section in the spec for the website and write up a page for every URL Ive got with a screenie. For my win forms app, Ive made somewhat of a demo Win Form project, would I then put in a dialog or stucture everything as I would in the real app and then screen shot it?

  Hi a friend of mine is asking about the request which can for example be found here: http://www.geoidee.ch/geodata/geoserver-2.0.0/logs/2010_11_23.request.log His original message: On a couple of hundred web sites worldwide, one of the 50 most popular "File not found" error 404 is caused by the following request: "GET http://66.196.81.202/error/vote HTTP/1.0" It originates from a user agent that purports to be an iPhone. The two requests that hit my servers appeared to originate near Frankfort, Germany. The IP address in the request is part of Yahoo although I doubt that Yahoo had any intentional part. fe1.buzz.vip.re1.yahoo.com The HTTP request has a host header 66.196.81.202 and a X-Forwarded-For of 96.6.99.16 and my IP address I expected to be able to do a Google search and find some kind of security bulletin on it, but I found nothing. It could just be that my search skills are deficient. Thanks for any pointers to what this could be

• Setting up a static IP address (public) in Ubuntu

  I have a business class internet connection and need to setup a static ip address for a machine. I did a search online and only find how to setup static local ip addresses (like 192.168..). I tried the same technique, and only setup the ip address and netmask, but after restart networking the computer could not connect to the outside world. This is what I did: 1) edit /etc/network/interfaces iface eth0 inet static address 173.10.xxx.xx netmask 255.255.255.252 2) edit /etc/resolv.conf search wp.comcast.net nameserver xx.xx.xx.xxx nameserver xx.xx.xx.xxx 3) restart network sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart Now the last step didn't report error, ifconfig shows the ip address was set, but this server cannot connect to outside world, ping google.com and reports "unknown host google.com". Any ideas?

  April 2010 Welcome to Issue 55 of DNN Creative Magazine In this issue we focus on the new Skin Object token method introduced in DotNetNuke 5 for adding tokens into a DotNetNuke skin.   Background I am developing a WPF project. This is the basic structure: User Interface (WPF Project); Interfaces (class library, contains all the interfaces and the entities used by the application; Modules (every module contains the logic of a specific argument, e.g. File Management, and can eventually contains Wpf User Controls). In the WPF Controls, to facilitate the binding operations I have created a BaseViewModel class which contains a Raise method that automates the binding mechanism (for further details, I used a technique similar to that one described in this article). The problem Understand which is the best way to separate Presentation form from the Business form in the entities classes. The case In the Interfaces project I have, for instance, the class User public class User { public virtual string Name { get; set; } // Other properties } In one of the modules I need to use the User class and to bind its properties to the User Interface controls. To do so I have to use a custom implementation of the get and set keywords. At first point, I thought to create a class in the Module called, for instance, ClientUser and override the properties that I need: public class ClientUser : User { private string name; public override string Name { get { return name; } set { Raise(out name, value); } } // Other properties } The problem is the Raise method, which is declared in the BaseViewModel class, but due to C# single inheritance constraint, I can't inherit from both classes. Which is the right way to implement this architecture?

  Previous information concerning my issue can be found here: Virus...? Tons of people talking. Not sure where else to ask. I heard the loud sounds and whatnot from one of the ads but nothing was harmed and other than having the life scared out of me nothing was immediately affected. Literally nothing has changed.
