• Embedding Ruby, calling a function from C

  Hi, I'm writing an app that calls ruby code from c. I am having a little difficulty and wondered if anyone could point me in the rite direction. I currently have in my C. #include ruby.h main() { ruby_init(); rb_require("myRubyFile"); rb_funcall(rb_module_new(), rb_intern("RubyFunction"), 0, NULL); } My ruby file is in the same directory as my c file and is called myRubyFile.rb and contains a definition of the function RubyFunction(). This is a cut down of what I actually want to do, just making it more readable for others. I just require some feedback as to whether this is the correct method to call ruby code from my c file. • Run another version of Python using virtualenv

  I apologize in advance if the question is dummy ,i use Python 3.2.3 on Windows xp ,now i need Python3.3.2 , but i can't remove Python 3.2.3 because i have many codes and packages need to be run by it. I installed virtualenv to run two versions of Python in two different environments , but after that i didn't know what to do to run a code using Python 3.3.2 , here what i did: C:\>virtualenv.exe env1 C:\>env1\Scripts\activate now i don't know what to do after a folder was created its name env1 , i downloaded Python 3.3.2 and installed it in the same folder (env1) , is that correct ? then i try the following: (env1) C:\>python3.3.2 I got the following : 'python3.3.2' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. also i tried : (env1) C:\>python python33 I got the following: python: can't open file 'python33': [Errno 2] No such file or directory As i mentioned , i stuck at this point , any help will be very appreciated. • Including libraries in project. Best practise.

  Hi guys, I'm writing a Python open-source app. My app uses some open source Python libraries. These libraries in turn use other open-source libraries. I intend to release my code at Sourceforge or Google Code but do I need to include the sources of the other libraries? Is this a good practice? ...or should I simply write this information into a README file informing the use about the other required libraries. I've placed all these libraries into a libs sub folder in my source directory. When checking my code into SVN, should I use something called svn:externals to link to other sources? Is there a way to dynamically update my libraries to the latest version or is this something I have to do manually when I release a new version. My sincerest apologies if my question sounds vague but I'm pretty lost in this matter and I don't know what to Google for. Thanks all.

• getting rid of ruby gems that won't die

  I've got a few ruby gems that won't go away. I think it has to do with when I installed them. Occasionally I have forgotten to use "sudo" before doing a gem install, which results in a write error and from what I can gather puts a copy of the gem in my user directory instead of somewhere it can run. But gem uninstall doesn't work. It continually shows up in 'gem list' but can't uninstall it from either gem uninstall, or sudo gem uninstall. I tried directly deleting one gem after finding the path in my 'gem environment', but that still left the gem on the list. Also is it possible just to remove all gems and start from scratch? These are driving me nuts. I'm running OS X. Thanks,

• Visual Web Developer 2005 Express loads very slowly

  I admit that I am not a guru of Visual Studio products at all. I am using Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition and I'm trying to load someone else's project. This project happens to be a website with many pages. After loading VWD, it asks for a project to open and I select the solution file. It then proceeds to take an extremely long time to load. The status bar indicates that references are being loaded, many of which are in the System.Web.* area it seems. It seems like it's going back and forth between some different packages. The loading time is upwards of 20 to 30 minutes or more. Some others have stated that their projects open fine when they go to File Open Website... and choose the project directory from there. Any ideas what the problem could be and how to fix it? Edit: It finally completed loading after an hour approximately.

  I'm using Tomcat 6, and this is my logging.properties: handlers = org.apache.juli.FileHandler, java.util.logging.ConsoleHandler .level=FINE org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationContext.level = OFF org.apache.juli.FileHandler.level = ALL org.apache.juli.FileHandler.directory = ${catalina.base}/logs org.apache.juli.FileHandler.prefix = mylog. java.util.logging.ConsoleHandler.level = FINE java.util.logging.ConsoleHandler.formatter = java.util.logging.SimpleFormatter On the one hand, Tomcat seems to read this file, as it correctly saves the logfiles with the prefix "mylog" and prints only messages with log-level FINE and above. On the other hand, it keeps on writing log messages like this: Jun 8, 2010 9:53:30 PM org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationContext log SEVERE: Error writing messages ClientAbortException: java.net.SocketException: Broken pipe I actually wanted to suppress all log messages from this class, as they flood my logfile, and the error is irrelevant for me. So why is the following line ignored? org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationContext.level = OFF Is there any other way to suppress the log output of this class?

  Hi, I checked out the trunk of my plugin from the Grails svn repo, made some changes, incremented the version number to 0.2.1, then ran release-plugin. • Use of serialization in JMX calls on Websphere Appserver to avoid ClasscastException

  We are using JMX for communication between different EARs on the same Websphere application server (6.1). All works well if we only use Java types as arguments, but if we use or own the problem is that we get ClassCastExceptions on the receiver side. This is obviously a classloader problem: if the jar with the argument types is put into the JRE endorsed directory, such that all classloaders use exactly the same class, the Exception disappear. But we would much prefer to put the library that defines the argument types in the EAR itself. Now my question: is there a trick to persuade WAS to serialize and deserialize the arguments during the JMX call? I guess in this case the ClassCastException would dissappear.

  I'm currently working on a project in ruby, and I hit a wall on how I should proceed. In the project I'm using Dir.glob to search a directory and all of its subdirectories for certain file types and placing them into an arrays. The type of files I'm working with all have the same file name and are differentiated by their extensions. For example, txt_files = Dir.glob("**/*.txt") doc_files = Dir.glob("**/*.doc") rtf_files = Dir.glob("**/*.rtf") Would return something similar to, FILECON.txt ASSORTED.txt FIRST.txt FILECON.doc ASSORTED.doc FIRST.doc FILECON.rtf ASSORTED.rtf FIRST.rtf So, the question I have is how I could break down these arrays efficiently (dealing with thousands of files) and placing all files with the same filename into an array. The new array would look like, FILECON.txt FILECON.doc FILECON.rtf ASSORTED.txt ASSORTED.doc ASSORTED.rtf etc. etc. I'm not even sure if glob would be the correct way to do this (all the files with the same file name are in the same folders). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

• different location of AndroidManifest.xml

  i have a custom buildchain for an android project. there is a build.xml and build.properties. build.properties contains this line: manifest.file =${env.WORK_FOLDER}/AndroidManifest.xml and WORK_FOLDER is correctly set to proj_root_work. the layout is like the following: proj_root-_work [DIR] (some stuff gets preprocessed and all finally copied here - src, res, assets and the AndroidManifest.xml) -build.xml -build.properties then i call ant for my build configuration from the proj_root and it complains about not finding AndroidManifest.xml. when i put it in my proj_root it works, but i really want it in my _Work directory. i read that the file HAS TO BE in the root, what is the point then of the build.properties entry? also i saw some custom parameters to aapt.exe ... any hints welcome, thx

• How to remove previous versions of Xcode

  When the 3.2 beta of the iPhone OS first came out, Xcode for 3.2 had to be installed side-by-side with the version for 3.1.2. I installed the new version (3.2) in /Developer and moved 3.1.2 to /Xcode3.1.2. Now I want to get rid of the old version and just use the new one since we can do that now. I ran the uninstall tool at /Xcode3.1.2/Library/uninstall-devtools and uninstall-developer-folder, but the directory still exists and has lots of stuff still in it, adding up to about 5 GB. At this point, am I safe just deleting the folder if I want to totally get rid of it and still use the /Developer folder? (At about 8 GB, it's got lots more in it, but I'm not sure if that's just because it's larger or because the old version was 8 GB before I ran the uninstall tool)?

  Hey, I don't know much about SEO and how web spiders work, so forgive my ignorance here. I'm creating a site (using ASP.NET-MVC) which has areas that displays information retrieved from the database. The data is unique to the user, so there's no real server-side output caching going on. However, since the data can contain things the user may not wish to have displayed from search engine results, I'd like to prevent any spiders from accessing the search results page. Are there any special actions I should take to ensure that the search result directory isn't crawled? Also, would a spider even crawl a page that's dynamically generated and would any actions preventing certain directories being search mess up my search engine rankings? edit: I should add, I'm reading up on robots.txt protocol, but it relies on co-operation from the web crawler. However, I'd also like to prevent any data-mining users who will ignore the robots.txt file. I appreciate any help!

  I have a Util package with source files in three seperate directories, defined like so: src/com/domain/util src/Standard/com/domain/util src/Extended/com/domain/util The package is built with the first set of files and either one of the second or third set, to create a total of two different implementations of the same interface. Now, I want to generate javadoc based on those files. How can I specify that? What I really want to do is javadoc com.domain.util -sourcepath ./src;./src/Standard to build the javadoc for the standard util package, and javadoc com.domain.util -sourcepath ./src;./src/Extended to build the javadoc for the extended util package. This doesn't work. The only way I've found so far to actually make it work is to merge the directory structure of the common classes and the Standard classes into another location and run with that for the standard javadoc, then do the same for the Extended package. Is there another way?

I don't remember how the language directories got in there. If I am using other languages via the ACT, do I need these directories? If not, then I don't? When I do a rebuild solution, the dll (AjaxControlToolkit.resources.dll) in these directories disappear. If I need them, what do I need to do to keep them from being deleted during a rebuild?

  My problem is to generate version 1 UUIDs. We use Jetty 6.x, Maven (to start Jetty among other things) and Apache Commons ID (to generate UUID version 1 from the current time). Apache Commons ID requires a configuration file that is told to the JVM, using a parameter, e.g. 'org.apache.commons.id.uuid.config.resource.filename=commons-id-uuid.xml'. I checked the Apache Commons ID code and it tries to find the file from the classpath. Jetty's documentation states that WEB-INF/lib and WEB-INF/classes are in the classpath. The 'commons-id-uuid.xml' can be found from the deployed war file from the root of WEB-INF/classes directory but Jetty cannot load it: Message: java.lang.RuntimeException: java.lang.IllegalStateException: commons-id-uuid.xml loaded as system resource is null Jetty was started using the following command: mvn jetty:run -Dorg.apache.commons.id.uuid.config.resource.filename=commons-id-uuid.xml Any idea what is going wrong? We just need to generate UUID version 1 identifiers. Any suggestions?

  Hi, I'm writing an app that calls ruby code from c. I am having a little difficulty and wondered if anyone could point me in the rite direction. I currently have in my C. #include ruby.h main() { ruby_init(); rb_require("myRubyFile"); rb_funcall(rb_module_new(), rb_intern("RubyFunction"), 0, NULL); } My ruby file is in the same directory as my c file and is called myRubyFile.rb and contains a definition of the function RubyFunction(). This is a cut down of what I actually want to do, just making it more readable for others. I just require some feedback as to whether this is the correct method to call ruby code from my c file. • WEB-INF/lib jars not found in JBoss 4.0.2 war deploy

  I have a simple web application (one jsp and one servlet) file that I've copied into jboss-4.0.2/server/default/deploy folder and it has successfully hot deployed as I can access the jsp page. However, when I invoke the servlet, I am getting a java.lan.NoClassDefFoundError. I suspect that the jars under the WEB-INF/lib directory within the war is not being picked up. The structure of my war is: META-INF --> MANIFEST.MF WEB-INF --> classes --> ...*.classes --> lib --> jcommon-1.0.16.jar jfreechart-1.0.13.jar servlet-api.jar index.jsp Anybody else have classloading issues in JBoss 4?
