  • How to get or own your own IP address?

    The website we running let people register their own URL and redirect to our website to their user account. Lets it is something similar to Blogspot.com where users can have their own URL. The problem is that in order to do this we need to have static IP address for the DNS redirection to work. We can easily get static IP addresses from most hosting companies, but if we change our hosting company it means we will have to force all our users to change their DNS setting to our new IP address. This if very problematic. Is there a way of owning our own IP address that we can take it with us to wherever hosting company we decide to go with? Or there there other easier solutions out there?

    Is it possible to pass a search variable into the Google Custom Search Engine that I have embedded on my website? I can get the search engine to work, but I can't pass it a term via POST (it's coming from a search button on other pages of the website) I tried to hack the code I found here: http://code.google.com/apis/ajax/playground/?exp=search#hello_world And this is what I have so far...   • How to not run function if its a mobile device?

    I have a modal pop up function on my website, but i don't want this to run if the browser is smaller than 480px. I have found that if I put an if statement such as: if (window.innerWidth && window.innerWidth > 480) { run function() } Then it should run only if the browsers innerWidth is 480. However its not working and I think its because I have page scaling on this website. Can any one help me with a conditional statement if page scaling is on? Thanks.

  • Autoconf macros for Apache and conf.d install process?

    I have a package that is using the autotools to build and install. Part of the package is a website that can be run on the local machine. So in the package there is a .conf file that is meant to be either copied or linked to the /etc/apache2/conf.d directory. What's the standard way that packages would do this? If possible, I'd like for the user not to have an extra step to make the website work. I'd like to have them install the package and then be able to browse to http://localhost/newpackage to get up and running. Also, is there a way that autoconf knows about the apache install or a standard way through then environment some how? If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great. Steve

Every time I build a new website/blog/shopping-cart/etc., I keep trying to do the following: Extract out common functionality into reusable code (Rubygems and jQuery plugins mostly) If possible, convert that gem into a small service so I never have to deal with a database for the objects involved (by service, I mean something lean and mean, usually built with the Sinatra Web Framework with a few core models). My assumption is, if I can remove dependencies on local databases, that will make it easier and more scalable in the long run (scalable in terms of reusability and manageability, not necessarily database/performance). I'm not sure if that's a good or bad assumption yet. What do you think? I've made this assumption because of the following reason: Most serious database/model functionality has been built on the internet somewhere. Just to name a few: Social Network API: Facebook Messaging API: Twitter Mailing API: Google Event API: Eventbrite Shopping API: Shopify Comment API: Disqus Form API: Wufoo Image API: Picasa Video API: Youtube ... Each of those things are fairly complicated to build from scratch and to make as optimized, simple, and easy to use as those companies have made them. So if I build an app that shows pictures (picasa) on an Event page (eventbrite), and you can see who joined the event (facebook events), and send them emails (google apps api), and have them fill out monthly surveys (wufoo), and watch a video when they're done (youtube), all integrated into a custom, easy to use website, and I can do that without ever creating a local database, is that a good thing? I ask because there's two things missing from the puzzle that keep forcing me to create that local database: Post API RESTful/Pretty Url API While there's plenty of Blogging systems and APIs for them, there is no one place where you can just write content and have it part of some massive thing. For every app, I have to use code for creating pretty/restful urls, and that saves posts. But it seems like that should be a service! Question is, is that what the website is? ...That place to integrate the worlds services for my specific cause... and, sigh, to store posts that only my site has access to. Will everyone always need "their own blog"? Why not just have a profile and write lots of content on an established platform like StackOverflow or Facebook? ... That way I can write apps entirely without a database and know that I'm doing it right. Note: Of course at some point you'd need a database, if you were doing something unique or new. But for the case where you're just rewiring information or creating things like videos, events, and products, is it really necessary anymore??

  • Error when trying to use PDO object

    EDIT: I'm going to put my code in here due to comments below. So sit tight for a few minutes ;-) Thanks! I'm an inexperienced php programmer and only found out about PDO a few days ago. I'm now trying to port my website code over to using PDO, but I am getting an error when I try to use the PDO object that I create. I'm using a CMS on my website, and it makes building page output kind of complicated, but I've tried to draw the structure of what is being called below: index.php -class myClass defined --method myFunction defined (it gets called on pageload & returns the page output) ---include file1.php ----require_once('mysql_connect.php') (creates pdo object) ----*I can use the pdo object here successfully* ----require_once('file2.php') -----require_once('mysql_connect.php') -----function myFunction2 defined ------*trying to use the pdo object here results in the error* The error I'm getting is: Fatal error: Call to a member function prepare() on a non-object in /home/rgcpanel/public_html/account/account_functions.php on line 147 Any idea what's going on?

Naturally, I was asked to provide examples of those sites, but can't seem to dig up any of them now. Actually, I've been looking on an off for the past few days. (blush) Sooo....     This seems like it should be easy, but I can't seem to figure it out. All of my google searches lead me to linking to databases which isn't what I want to do. I'm a complete web development newb. I've roughly followed the NerdDinner tutorial in creating my web app. One of my stored fields is a web address. On the Index and Details pages, when I display the info from my record, I want the web address to be a clickable link to the website. It's currently displayed as: <%= Html.Encode(Model.Subcontract.company1.website) %>

  • How to preserve whitespace indentation of text enclosed in HTML <pre> tags excluding the current indentation level of the <pre> tag in the document?

    I'm trying to display my code on a website but I'm having problems preserving the whitespace indentation correctly. For instance given the following snippet: <html> <body> Here is my code: <pre> def some_funtion return 'Hello, World!' end </pre> <body> </html> This is displayed in the browser as: Here is my code: def some_funtion return 'Hello, World!' end When I would like it displayed as: Here is my code: def some_funtion return 'Hello, World!' end The difference is that that current indentation level of the HTML pre tag is being added to the indentation of the code. I'm using nanoc as a static website generator and I'm using google prettify to also add syntax highlighting. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Please, enter our website and ask for an invitation" when a user click on "Register" on our app. However, Apple has rejected our app because it can not has any disabled featured and can not contains word "Beta". What would you do in this situation? I don't know if hide this option and show it only when an API call response says "registerEnabled = YES" or just change the text and use: "You need and invitation to access OUR_APP.     Hi All, I am not sure how to put this, maybe I'm not able to search it properly I'm not sure what is it called but I am looking for a script which is a kind of an extended version of lightbox script. I want to place some images in my website which when clicked opens as lightbox and can go next and previous but the trick is the next images have to be sub pics of the pic which is displayed. So lets say I have "a" "b" "c" ....images shown on my website but when some clicks "a" the image "a" opens but then when he clicks next image {{ with the help of the lightbox script }} he goes to "a.1" "a.2" ....and so on for image "b" ...... Can anyone help me finding this script I have seen i somewhere bu not sure of the search term. Many Thanks

  • HTML Links on IzPack HTMLInfoPanel not working correctly

    In my installer (created using IzPack) i am using HTMLInfoPanel, in the HTML data for this info panel I have a website link and an email address. The problem is 1) When I click on the website link, the page is opened in the Installer panel itself, instead of open the page in the default browse window. 2) When I click on the email link, the page in the panel just refreshes and does nothing instead of opening the mail client for the user.     Im running a asp.net website on windows 2003 ii6. Every 24-28 hours im getting the following error: When the error occurres all users are disconnected from the website. Event Type: Warning Event Source: W3SVC Event Category: None Event ID: 1013 Date: 02/02/2010 Time: 19:29:38 User: N/A A process serving application pool 'DefaultAppPool' exceeded time limits during shut down.   • Representing geographical points/polygons in Python/Django

    I'm building a website in Django, and I want one of my datatypes to be a geographical polygon. I want to mark points on a map (say, in Google Maps) and then store the resulting polygon in the database. Is there any way to do it that will save me the work of typing all the longitudes and latitudes manually? I guess I'm looking both for a geographical library for Python, and for a special website that will let me mark points on the map and save them in a standard format. Thanks!

    I could not figure out the logic I would need to display a current minute of a soccer match. I have three fields in the database. DateFirstStarted DateSecondStarted DateFullEnded I should enter DateFirstStarted when the game starts and on the website. i.e. game starts at 7:05pm, on 7:25pm it should display '20 on the website. However, it should stop on the 45th minute. Then, I enter DateSecondStarted when the second half starts and should count from 46 to 90 and freeze there. Do I make sense? How can I do it? Is there a better way to do this?

  • ASP.net Text Box Enter button pressed hell

    Basically I have an asp.net website with login and search pages. Currently, I have no idea why, when ever a user hits enter in either of the login text boxes (user name/password) or in the Seach text box, the website is redirected to the default page. I have no idea why this is happening, I've tried setting defaultButton on both the panel containing the search and the login panel but that doesnt seem to work. I've also tried catching the key press event with javascript which isnt working either. I have no idea what event is being fired and why, or why it seems to override everything I try to do. Anyone seen anything like this before?

    Hello, I have a Win Sever 2003 running IIS 6.0 which has only my main website on it and now I am trying to setup a test website which currently is an exact duplicate of the main site. When accessing my main site everything works fine, and has done for a long time. If I access the test site (through 'test.' subdomain) I get this error: Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0126' Include file not found /html/shop/asp/admin/inc/incWeeklySpecialswide3.asp, line 71 The include file '/html/asp/quickfindwithSuburbs31.asp' was not found. The file actually exists, and the paths are correct. I have enabled Parent Paths, replaced the include file path to the full path (http://foo.com/html/asp -etc.), removing the ' / ' at the start of the path and changing the code from ' include ' to ' virtual '. Thanks in advance.

    i have an uploads folder on my website. What i want to do is restrict users from accessing like i dont want them to go to www.mysite.com/uploads/ and see the files in there and it should show forbidden, but they should be able to download via my website, for example www.mysite.com/downloads.php?id=1 If thats not possible, how can i atleast not show them the directory index on /uploads How is it that file sharing websites does this? An htaccess with deny from all stops php from accessing the file as well Please tell me a solution if you would know, i googled and asked on irc a few days ago about this issue, its pretty confusing to me.
