  I've been looking for an alternative Nokia PC suite for Ubuntu. I'm tired of switching OS, and I'm tired of using Windows it is so boring me. Not Wammu, Gammu, Nokuntu, Ginokki and Series 60. They don't work. Via cable. I need an application that can detect via cable (because I have a very different reason why I need it to detect via cable). Also after installing in Wine it can't detect the Phone and I think the installation didn't finish correctly. Thank You !

• Unable to resolve class org.codehaus.groovy.grails.plugins.springsecurity.Secured

  Hi, I'm new to Grails and I'm seeing the error "Groovy:unable to resolve class org.codehaus.groovy.grails.plugins.springsecurity.Secured" when I open a Grails app in SpringSource Tool Suite (STS) and build the project. However the application does run when I issue the run-app command and I can login. Also when I look in my .grails folder I can see that 'grails-acegi-0.5.2.zip' has been downloaded. When I issues the upgrade command from the grails command prompt I get a message telling me that all dependancies have been resolved. Thanks for any help.

• Very unusual and weird problem with gVim 7.2

  After installing gVim and running gvim from the run window, if I were to type :cd followed by a tab, I will get \AppData, \Application Data, etc. Which basically means I'm at my $HOME directory (C:\Users\Fabian). The weird thing is I do not have a \Application Data folder there. But if I were to run gvim.exe from its installation folder, and I type :cd followed by tab, I would get \autoload, \colors, etc. which means I'm at the installation folder. And if I were to pin gvim.exe on to taskbar, upon launch and typing :cd then tab, I will get \Dictionaries and upon hitting tab again I get a beep. I think for the last scenario, I'm at some Adobe folder. Anybody knows how to fix this weird issue? I'd like to pin it to taskbar and upon launch, start in the $HOME directory (C:\Users\Fabian).

  So, you've probably heard about Apple's change to its agreement to prohibit source-to-source translation, thereby blocking translation from Flash (in CS5) and also from Android (via XMLVM). You may also have read about a response by a well-known Adobe developer, and calls to boycott development for the iPhone. Given that this audience is a better representative of the developer community than those who post comments on the NYT, Digg, and other news sites, I was wondering what your opinions were about this decision. Will any of you switch to Android from the iPhone or avoid development on the iPhone as a result of this? Since this is fairly subjective, I am making this a community wiki. Also, please, keep things civil.

• Run Windows XP on a usb drive virtually on Windows XP?

  I am sick of not being able to run and install certain applications on my work computer due to admin restrictions (eg: Adobe AIR) . I have heard of smaller versions of Windows running on a usb thumb drive and have looked into it but can't find anything on running windows virtually from a usb drive. I would like to be able to login to this particular computer, insert my usb drive and then open up another version of windows installed on the thumb drive while still being able to use the windows I logged in on (literally be able to alt+tab between the main desktop and the virtual desktop from the usb drive). Is this even possible? For further clarification: The version of windows has to be Windows XP and there is no other option available for what I want to do. Looking forward to a response.

  Hello, Environment: Windows XP, SpringSource Tool Suite 2.3.2, Roo 1.0.2.Release, Java 1.6.0_10, tc Server 6.0 I'm using the canned Roo generated code. I created an entity and associated controller. Then deleted both classes. The problem I'm seeing is the Roo created home page still shows the "Create/List" section for the deleted classes. I'm executing this within the tc Server, within Eclipse. Any ideas on how to get Roo to update the home page? Thanks, Steve

  Using "introspection" In Flex I can say: var classInfo:XML=describeType(SomeObject); Which will list for me the Accessors, Methods And Variables. (http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=usingas_8.html) But what is the equivalent to programmatically inspect all of an object's possible EVENTS? (NOT JUST the events for which event listeners have been set, but to somehow step through a list of all VALID EVENTS for which event listeners may POTENTIALLY be set -- I realize that such lists are readily available online, and that's great for cases when I know the object's type at design type, but I require some way to inspect any given displayobject programmatically at runtime, and determine what events, if any, are or may be associated with it.)

  Hello, I'm developing a Adobe AIR application using Flash Builder 4. This app needs to access a remote PHP service which is being hosted on a remote web server. I am having troubles figuring out how to add a PHP data service which uses a remote service. I can add the PHP data service in Flash Builder as a service hosted on localhost, but given that this will not be feasible when the application is deployed, will not work. Does anyone know how to connect a Flash Builder (Flex) project to a remote PHP data service? Thanks, Chris

  Here's the scenario: User interacts with Adobe flex webpage to configure reports based on some data stored server side. They configure their view and have THAT view emailed to them daily. I've got the report builder, the part I'm trying to figure out is how to render the report server side and send it out as email (native flex functionality? convert to html? take screenshot? assume something is running client side?...)   I am displaying some HTML text in an Adobe AIR Application that I do not want the user to be able to cut and paste. How do I make the HTML control disallow highlighting of the HTML without disabling the ScrollBars. mouseChildren=false works but disables the scrollbars which is unacceptable. Right now I have: <mx:HTML location="http://dexter/preview.html" width="100%" height="100%" id="PreviewArea" x="0" y="0" tabEnabled="false" tabChildren="false" focusEnabled="false" focusRect="null"/> But it's not working properly either. I have also tried overlaying a disabled transparent text control over the top of the HTML component, but the user is still able to tab to the HTML and use the keyboard controls to copy the text to the clipboard. Any hints?

  The recent article of steve jobs link made me think about the future of flash. I'm learning actionscript 3.0 in my studies but is it the right decision still to go for it? I was pretty sure that I will be able to build application in as3 for iphones/ipads in the near future. It seems to me, while I would stay with flash, the market will be polarized by apple and adobe and you will always work double for both clientele, or just lose half of them. Which decision would you take as a designer, if you were still at university and you intend to become a freelancer?

• Detect NativeDragDrop to Trash or RecycleBin

  I will let user remove item from List with a cool method. Drag an item in adobe air List control and then drop it to Trash(OSX) or Recycle Bin(Win). The trash accept move drag action only. So I think I must set dragMoveEnable=true. When I drag an item to Recycle Bin on Windows. It show accept effect(alpha mask) and Air remove that object from List's dataProvider. So I can find which one is disappear. But when I drag to Trash on MacOSX. It show effect too. But Air do nothing for List. Maybe this is a bug. How can I avoid it? Are there any way to detect where dropped by user?

• Why are there two types of Adobe Flash Player download / update?

  Adobe Flash Player checks for updates at startup. If updates are required the Adobe dialog pops up with a [Download] button. Usually when I hit the [Download] button it downloads it straight away with a progress bar that zips across the dialog. I then get the option to install it. All good. However, sometimes when I hit the [Download] button it takes me to the website: https://get3.adobe.com/flashplayer/update/plugin/ Which presents me with an [Update now] button (and to install McAfee!). What is this for? Why didn't it download and install in the "usual" way? So, why are there apparently two different update methods for what appears to be the same thing? One is nice and swish and integrated into the updater, the other more long winded. In fact, I don't [Update now] when it takes me to the website, because I'm like "Hey, what's this?!"

  I had some problems with amarok player, I couldn't get any sound from it. Anyway, I fixed it somehow, from terminal, with some packages, after a couple of reboots, now I have problem with the adobe-flashplugin. I'm trying this in terminal but: sudo apt-get install adobe-flashplugin Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: The package adobe-flashplugin needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it. I also tried the update manager, but I get something about partial upgrade but that thing also isnt working, and I get a message that I have to install it manually or I remove it completely. So, how can I remove it completely and then I will install it clean again from the beggining?

  I'm currently seeing the warnings below when trying to run my Google App Engine/Grails test app in Eclipse. I get this error after creating a Grails project with Spring Tools Suite (STS) and then installing the app-engine plugin "grails install-plugin app-engine". Before, I install the app-engine plugin the Grails project runs correctly. Any ideas how to resolve these warnings?

• Building Cross Platform app - recommendation

  Hi, I need to build a fairly simple app but it needs to work on both PC and Mac. It also needs to be redistributable on a disc or usb drive as a standalone desktop app. Initially I thought AIR would be perfect for this (it ticks all the API requirements), but the difficulty is making it distributable, as the app would require the AIR runtime to be installed to run. I came across Shu Player as an option as it seems to be able to package the AIR runtime with the app and do a (silent?) install. However this seems to break the T&C from Adobe (as outlined here) so I'm not sure about the legality. Another option could be Zinc but I haven't tested it so I'm not sure how well it'll fit the bill. What would you recommend or suggest I check out? Any suggestion much appreciated EDIT: There's a few more discussions on mono usage (though no real conclusion): Here and Here EDIT2: Titanium could also fit the bill maybe, will check it out.   I am writing a flex application that involves modifying a textarea very frequently. I have encountered issues with the textarea sometimes not displaying my modifications. But, if you are typing into the textarea at the same time, you will notice the text the timer prints is distorted. I am really curious as to why this happens. The single-threaded nature of flex and disabling user input for the textarea when I make modifications should prevent this from happening, but for some reason this doesn't seem to be working. I must note too that, when running the timer at larger intervals (around 100ms) it seems to work perfectly, so I am tempted to think it's some kind of synchronization issue in the internals of the flex framework. Any ideas on what could be causing the problem?

  Hi I have developed a Flash Video player in Flash CS3 with Action Script 2.0 to play video from Adobe Flash Media Server 3.5. To play video from FMS 3.5, first I have to verify my swf file on FMS 3.5 server console so that it can be ensure that RTMP video URL only be play in verified SWF file. Right now I am facing problem of "NetConnection.Connect.Close" when I try to connect my NetConnection Object to FMS 3.5 to stream video from that server. So now I am getting this message "NetConnection.Connect.Close" from FMS 3.5. When this is happening in my office area at the same time when I am checking the the same video url from out side the office (With help of my friends who is in another office) area it is working fine. My friends naver faced even a single issue with NetConnection.Connect.Close. But in my office when I got message NetConnection.Connect.Close, I can play another streaming video very well like mtv.com jaman.com rajshri.com etc. Some time FMS works fine and video starts playing but in the middle of the video same thing happen "NetConnection.Connect.Close" There is no issue of Bandwidth in my office. I do't know why this is happening. Please see the message when I am getting "NetConnection.Connect.Close" message.
