• Problem installing MySQL gem on Fedora

  When I try rake db:migrate, I get the following error: !!! The bundled mysql.rb driver has been removed from Rails 2.2. Please install the mysql gem and try again: gem install mysql. rake aborted! no such file to load -- mysql And when I try to "gem install mysql" Building native extensions. This could take a while... ERROR: Error installing mysql: ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension. /usr/bin/ruby extconf.rb Can't find header files for ruby. Gem files will remain installed in /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/mysql-2.8.1 for inspection. $ sudo gem install mysql -- --with-mysql-config=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config has also been tried but same error. I'm on a Fedora 10. Help will be much appreciated.Cheers!

• StreamWriter Problem - 2 Spaces Written as Hex '20 c2 a0' instead of Hex '20 20'

  I'm writing a bunch of strings to a file using a string writer but I've discovered a problem when I look at the file created in hex, and that is that one of the spaces (x20) is replaced with a non-breaking space instead (xc2 a0) when there are 2 spaces separating words. I don't know if this is a big deal but I would like to know if there is an easy resolution to this? Here's what I'm seeing: 20 c2 a0 53 57 45 45 50 Dump = "  SWEEP" But I would like it to always be: 20 20 53 57 45 45 50 Dump = " SWEEP" Note that the c2 a0 aren't visible here but the dump looks something like 'A.' when I use the Notepad++ Hex Plugin. • text indexes vs integer indexes in mysql

  Hey, I have always tried to have an integer primary key on a table no matter what. But now I am questioning if this is always necessary. Let's say I have a product table and each product has a globally unique SKU number - that would be a string of say 8-16 characters. Why not make this the PK? Typically I would make this field a unique index but then have an auto incrementing int field as the PK, as I assumed it would be faster, easier to maintain, and would allow me to do things like get the last 5 records added with ease. But in terms of optimisation, assuming I'd only ever be matching the full text field and next doing text matching queries (e.g. like %%) can you guys think of any reasons not to use a text based primary key, most likely of type varchar()? • Using CSS Classes for indivdual effects - opinions?

  Hey, Just trying to canvas some opinions here. I was wondering how people go about adding individual effects to html elements. Take this example: you have three types of h1 titles all the same size but some are black some are gold and some are white. Some have a text-shadow etc. Would you create separate CSS classes and add them do the h1 tag or would you create a new single class for each different h1 title type (with grouped CSS elements)? With singular class for each effect you can build up combos of classes in html class="gold shadow" but also how would you name them. For example its bad practice to give classes and id names associated to colours, because it doesn't define what it does well. However is this ok with textual CSS classes? Just wondering what others do, I know there are no hard and fast rules. Cheers.

• AutoMapper and SecurityException in IIS

  Hi everybody... I'm developing a asp.net mvc application with nhibernate and I would not like to expose my objects mappings with NHibernate, so I created DTO for each entity and I'm trying to convert my Domain objects to DTO and send it to View. So I have in my sollution: ClassLibrary with my Domain (for NHibernate) and DTO objetcs Class library to make a SessionFactory adn Factories in my Project Asp.Net MVC 2 Application So, I download AutoMapper to transform Domain objects in DTO and add a the code to do this in Application_Start of global.asax. When I run in VisualStudio (by pressing F5) it works fine and my dtos are into the view, So when I publish this in IIS, I get a security exception =( in first line of conversion: Mapper.CreateMap(); <--- this line throw exception Mapper.CreateMap(); System.Security.SecurityException: Failed request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.ReflectionPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'. What can I do to resolve this to work in IIS ? When I will publish it on web server, the error will get too :( Thanks Cheers

• Dynamics CRM 4.0 Campaign Response Workflow issue

  Hi I am pretty novice when it comes to CRM so hopefully someone can help me. I am trying to create a workflow that triggers when the campaign response is set to closed and then updates a few fields within the related 'Customers' record. I would have imagined that this would have been straight forward. However, when creating my workflow it appears that the 'Customer' is not in the related entitities list and therefore I cannot set the fields I require updating. I imagine that the issue is to do with the 'Customer' attribute being similar to the 'To'/'From' attributes on an email/phone call activity, whereas I need the attribute to resemble the 'Regarding' attribute. I presume I could create an attribute to replace 'customer' and apply all the appropriate relationships, but I dont really want to do this. Is there a simple way to get around this and/or am I missing something? Cheers

• Custom filename in a rolling Log4Net logfile?

  Hello We have a ASP .Net application whereby we use Log4Net to log details within the app - nothing new there - and the rolling log filenames are in the usual format of: rolling-log.txt rolling-log.txt.1 rolling-log.txt.2 etc. A each user of the application adds to the logfile, the logfile can be difficult to read for a specific user's case and so, we'd like to modify the config file somehow to record the user's log details individually, each writing to a specific file, e.g. <applicationId>rolling-log.txt <applicationId>rolling-log.txt.1 <applicationId>rolling-log.txt.2 etc. where is each user's unique application Id, made up of a five digit number, e.g. 12345rolling-log.txt Any ideas on the best way to implement this, assuming that it's possible? I have tried, had some success using the plugin at http://phing.info/trac/wiki/Users/Documentation/CruiseControl, but have failed to: Get the metrics graphs working (nothing appears) Enable the "PMD" - project mess detection - reports Are there any other ant-specific commands that must (can) be run in addition to my phing build script? • PhysX for massive performance via GPU ?

  I recently compared some of the physics engine out there for simulation and game development. Some are free, some are opensource, some are commercial (1 is even very commercial $$$$). Havok, Ode, Newton (aka oxNewton), Bullet, PhysX and "raw" build-in physics in some 3D engines. At some stage I came to conclusion or question: Why should I use anything but NVidia PhysX if I can make use of its amazing performance (if I need it) due to GPU processing ? With future NVidia cards I can expect further improvement independent of the regular CPU generation steps. The SDK is free and it is available for Linux as well. Of course it is a bit of vendor lock-in and it is not opensource. Whats your view or experience ? If you would start right now with development, would you agree with the above ? cheers

• Developing Android applications with Visual Studio 2008

  Hi all, I've recently obtained an HTC Desire and I'm interested in porting my 3D engine to the device. I have a slight annoyance however. I'd love to be able to do development under Visual Studio 2008. Am I to assume I'm going to need to re-process my SLN files to do GCC builds? Its not a vast issue as I already have an application that processes SLN and VCProj files through GCC and then links them together at the other end. I'll just need to set up the right libraries with it. Are there any other gotchas I need to think about? Or, indeed, is there an easier way? Any info would be much appreciated! Cheers :)

• UITabBarController's 'More' navigation controller disappears under UINavigationController

  I am using a UITabBarController as well as a UINavigationController on my app. In my UITabBarController I am using more than 5 items so I automatically get the 'More' item. I've managed to add a saving procedure so the order of those items will be kept in case somebody changes the order etc. With 'More' active I get the More navigation controller with the 'Edit' item positioned under my UINavigationController. Both navigation controller are visible. When I click on 'Edit though the More navigation controller disappears and seem to be hiding under my UINavigationController and therefore I can't see/use the 'Done' function to save my new order What did I miss?   I'm trying to convert characters like < and > into &lt; and &gt; etc. User input is taken from a text box, and then copied into a DIV called changer. here's my code: function updateChanger() { var message = document.getElementById('like').value; message = convertHTML(message); document.getElementById('changer').innerHTML = message; } function convertHTML(input) { input = input.replace('<', '&lt;'); input = input.replace('>', '&gt;'); return input; } But it doesn't seem to replace >, only <. Also tried like this: input = input.replace('<', '&lt;').replace('>', '&gt;'); But I get the same result. Can anyone point out what I'm doing wrong here? Cheers.

  I have a query regarding how delegates work. My understanding was that delegates take responsibility for doing certain tasks on behalf of another object. locationManager = [[CLLocationManager alloc] init]; [locationManager setDelegate:self]; [locationManager setDistanceFilter:kCLDistanceFilterNone]; [locationManager setDesiredAccuracy:kCLLocationAccuracyBest]; [locationManager startUpdatingLocation]; Am I right in thinking that in the example code above that the instance of CLLocationManager is created on a new thread so that it can get on with trying to find the location information it needs. When it completes its task (or encounters an error) it calls-back using the appropriate methods located in self e.g. locationManager:didUpdateToLocation:fromLocation: Essentially locationManager sends messages to self (which conforms to the correct delegate protocol) when things happen cheers gary

  Hi All, I want to write a named scoped to get a record from its id. Ex: I have a model called Event and its same as doing Event.find(id) (I dont want to use find inside my controller and I want my controller to use a named scoped (for future flexibility)) So I have written a named scoped named_scope :from_id, lambda { |id| {:conditions = ['id= ?', id] } } and I'm calling it from my controller like Event.from_id(id) But my problems is it returns Event object array not only one object Ex: if I want to get event name I have to write event = Event.from_id(id) event[0].name instead I want to write event = Event.from_id(id) event.name Am I doing something wrong here.. thanks in advance cheers sameera

  Hi everyone, I'm wonder how I'd code up a ByteBuffer recycling class that can get me a ByteBuffer which is at least as big as the specified length, and which can lock up ByteBuffer objects in use to prevent their use while they are being used by my code. This would prevent re-construction of DirectByteBuffers and such over and over, instead using existing ones. Is there an existing Java library which can do this very effectively? I know Javolution can work with object recycling, but does that extend to the ByteBuffer class in this context with the requirements set out? Cheers, Chris

  hi, i am trying to find ways to sanitize the input of wmd editor Specifically, I am trying to make HTML tags only available in the <code>tags that wmd generates. Is that possible My problem is that the following code is rendered as html which is vunerable to potential xss attacks e.g. <a onmouseover="alert(1)" href="#">read this!</a> The above code renders normally both in preview mode and when saved to the db. I notice that SO doesnt seem to have this problem. The same code is just rendered as text. • how to automate upsizing from Access to SQL Server?

  Hi, I need to automate the migration from an Access (2003) to an SQL Server DB (2005 or 2008). The upsizing should be done automatically as part of a build process. I need that because there are 2 versions of the software, a single user rich client and a web version. Access DB is used for single user to minimize setup effort, SQL Server to improve performance and scaling with many simultanious users. Access should be the "leading" DB, meaning devs do changes in Access DB and those are propagated to the SQL server within the build process. Many changes will occur, so doing it manually is not an option. I am new to the Microsoft world, so I dont know appropriate tools for that. What tools can I use and how? I know how to do it (by clicking) with the upsizing assistant. Perhaps I can automate that somehow? Thanks in advance for your answers. Cheers, Arne

  Hello, I'm working with OpenCV on a beagleboard with ubuntu and OpenCV 1.1 interfaced via Python. I'm trying to set something up to capture a feed from a UVC compatible webcam (logitech C250). I have tested the webcam with luvcview and it works but only if I set the input format to YUV. If I run it in 'normal' mode I am getting back jpeg frames and something - somewhere is not happy! I'm trying to connect with the webcam in OpenCV as I want to get the image back from the webcam and run some analysis on it. As I have a limited device this seems to be the most efficient way of doing it - however I need to instruct the capturing system to capture in YUV and not jpeg. Is there a way of doing this (for example luvcview allow me to enter luvcview -f YUVY)? Cheers, Neil

Im' developing a system to manage documents and I need make an URL like this: routes.MapRoute("Documentos", "{controller}/{documentType}/{documento}/{action}/{id}", new { controller = "Home", documentType = "", documento = "", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional }); and the app working an URL like theses: "Document/Administrative/Contract" - (Index action by default to list documents of type 'Contract') "Document/Administrative/Contract/New" - (new action in controller) "Document/Administrative/Contract/10" - (detail action in controller) "Document/Administrative/Contract/Edit/10" - (edit action in controller) Document would be a Controller, and Administrative would be just a description in url to identify that documents of 'Contract' is Administrative... So, My doubts is about my controllers and actions, How should be the signature of the methods of controller ? Need I make an Area called Documents to do this more easy ? PS: Sorry for my english!
