    OK, I have a set of tables that I want to use for my user logins. I am guessing that I need a separate model for each table in the database. My tables are as follows: Users - user information such as first and last name, groups_id, status, etc... groups - defines the user groups with id, name, description permissions - defines a list of permissions that a group can have permission_assignments - groups_id and permissions_id. many to many relationship table I am not sure how to go about populating an array that would contain the list of permissions that a user would have based on the group they are in after a successful login. Basically, a user belongs to a group, and the group gets assigned permissions. I want to then be able to validate functions/methods based on weather the logged in user has certain permissions. Any help is appreciated

  • Java for-loop problem

    OK so here's my code: http://so.pastebin.com/9swaiuRy The problem is that I am trying to make certain tiles blocked so the player cannot walk on them. However, it's only reading the FIRST tile which is board[0][0] and everything else is not checked.... What am I doing wrong? :( Thank you.

  • Looking for a way to highlight specific words in textareas?

    Hi i'm looking for a way to highlight specific words in text kind of like how a text editor might work with syntax highlighting. The highlighting will consist of the text being different colours and/or different styles such as italic, bold or regular. In order to narrow focus, how this might be achieved using Java Swing components. There are most probably a number of ways of doing this but one that is efficient in dealing with multiple highlighted words and large amounts of text. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

  • Javascript dynamic table memory usage

Is there any change in the code I can use to solve this or is it a browser side problem?

  • c++: at what point should I start using "new char[N]" vs a static buffer "char[Nmax]"

    My question is with regard to C++ Suppose I write a function to return a list of items to the caller. Each item has 2 logical fields: 1) an int ID, and 2) some data whose size may vary, let's say from 4 bytes up to 16Kbytes. So my question is whether to use a data structure like: struct item { int field1; char field2[MAX_LEN]; OR, rather, to allocate field2 from the heap, and require the caller to destroy when he's done: struct item{ int field1; char *field2; // new char[N] -- destroy[] when done! Since the max size of field #2 is large, is makes sense that this would be allocated from the heap, right? So once I know the size N, I call field2 = new char[N], and populate it. Now, is this horribly inefficient? Is it worse in cases where N is always small, i.e. suppose I have 10000 items that have N=4?

  • Not really a quaestion...but i need help

    I have to make a process in Oracle/PLSQL.....i have to verify that the interval of time between start_date and end_date from a new row that i create must not intersect other start_dates and end_dates from other rows. Now I need to check each row for that condition and if it doesn't correspond the repetitive instruction should stop and after that to display a message such as "The interval of time given is not correct". I don't know how to make repetitive instructions in Oracle/PLSQL and I would appreciate if you would help me.

  • Find and list all functions/methods in a set of JavaScript files

    Is there a way to read a set of JavaScript files, and output a description of where every function/method is defined? I realize that this is likely impossible in full generality, due to the extreme dynamic nature of the language. What I'm imagining is something which gets the (relatively) straightforward cases. Ideally, I'd want it figure out where, e.g. some method got attached to string or hash or some other fundamental class (and also just let you find all the classes/functions that get defined once in one place). Does such a tool exist?

  • How do you get good line spacing with lpr?

    I'm using lpr with the following flags: lpr -o cpi=12 -o lpi=8 -o page-left=36 -o page-top=36 -o page-bottom=36 But the lines appear too close together. But if I decrease lpi to 6 or something, the font just gets taller. What I really want is control over the amount of space between the lines. My makeshift solution is to insert blank lines in the document using sed G, but ideally I would like to achieve 1.5 line spacing instead of full double-spaced. Is this possible?

  • Path Inclusion/Global variable not working?

    Simply put, my config file includes my database class, and the config file has in it: global $db; $db = new database(DB_HOST, DB_NAME, DB_USER, DB_PASS); That file is root/config.php Moving on to root/functions/func.newpage.php doesn't have any includes/requires, and uses $db-classfunction since the file I'm working with: root/newpage.php - requires the config file, as well as func.newpage.php. However I still come up with: Undefined variable db. Anything you guys are seeing I'm not? Thanks! Let me know if more details are needed.

  • Namespace and class conflict(?)

    This is a bad title for the question, but I'm not quite sure of a better one. I have a namespace called Globals with a class X in it. I also have a class called Globals. When I try to access Globals.X.StaticMember it tries to access the class Globals.X and complains that X doesn't exist. How do I reference the namespace Globals - ie ::Globals.X.StaticMember (:: doesn't compile).

    In the last eight days the Oracle Technology Network Architect Day tour has stopped in Dallas, Anaheim (Disneyland, to be precise) , and at Oracle HQ in Redwood Shores,  CA. I was on-scene for the Dallas event, where I pulled a TMZ-style ambush on Chris Benedict from the Oracle Enterprise Solutions Group to capture this short video.     The other presenters escaped.   • How much knowledge do I need to begin a project in Django

    I started learning django about a month ago. I have an intermediate C, Java programming experience. I read the first 8 chapters of the django book . Afterwards, I picked up Practical Django Projects by James Bennett and did the first two projects: CMS & Web Blog. Although, I started getting lost when he got to the generic views part. I know that's important but I'm not sure how important that is when trying to implement a project. Anyway, I have a project in mind that I'd like to start; however, I'm nervous as to where to begin. I'm overwhelmed with the number of things that I'd like my project to do but no knowledge or minimal knowledge as to how e.g. how do i implement css and javascript in my project. Moreover, I am aware that some django packages exists to ease development but I don't know if I should use them or not. Anyway, I apologize for my length message. I just want some advice/encouragement. I have a project in mind but do you think I need to read more materials/tutorials or is it smart to just start working on my project based on the minimal knowledge i've gained from those books? Any information that can be provided is much appreciated. I really want to get good at this but I just need some direction.

  • Spending the summer at camp… Web Camp, that is

    Microsoft is sponsoring a series of Web Camps this summer. They’re a series of free two day events being held worldwide, and I’m really excited about being taking part. The camp is targeted at a broad range of developer background and experience. Content builds from 101 level introductory material to 200-300 level coverage, but we hit some advanced bits (e.g. MVC 2 features, jQuery templating, IIS 7 features, etc.) that advanced developers may not yet have seen. We start with a lap around ASP.NET & Web Forms, then move on to building and application with ASP.NET MVC 2, jQuery, and Entity Framework 4, and finally deploy to IIS. I got to spend some time working with James before the first Web Camp refining the content, and I think he’s packed about as much goodness into the time available as is scientifically possible. The content is really code focused – we start with File/New Project and spend the day building a real, working application. The second day of the Web Camp provides attendees an opportunity to get hands on. There are two options: Join a team and build an application of your choice Work on a lab or tutorial James Senior and I kicked off the fun with the first Web Camp in Toronto a few weeks ago. It was sold out, lots of fun, and by all accounts a great way to spend two days. I’m really enthusiastic about the format. Rather than just listening to speakers and then forgetting everything in a few days, attendees actually build something of their choice. They get an opportunity to pitch projects they’re interested in, form teams, and build it – getting experience with “real world” problems, with all the help they need from experienced developers. James got help on the second day practical part from the good folks that run Startup Weekend. Startup Weekend is a fantastic program that gathers developers together to build cool apps in a weekend, so their input on how to organize successful teams for weekend projects was invaluable. Nick Seguin joined us in Toronto, and in addition to making sure that everything flowed smoothly, he just added a lot of fun and excitement to the event, reminding us all about how much fun it is to come up with a cool idea and just build it. In addition to the Toronto camp, I’ll be at the Mountain View, London, Munich, and New York camps over the next month. London is sold out, but the rest still have space available, so come join us!   • Java remove HTML from String without regular expressions

    Hello, I am trying to remove all HTML elements from a String. Unfortunately, I cannot use regular expressions because I am developing on the Blackberry platform and regular expressions are not yet supported. Is there any other way that I can remove HTML from a string? I read somewhere that you can use a DOM Parser, but I couldn't find much on it.
