• Browser caching issue on a https site pressing f5

  i am working on a website where i have content entry form. This form contains a tiny mce control. The control is composed of some 40-50 files. The testing reported that the entry form loads slow and evertime shows up 50 files loading to completely load the page. Is there a way i can decrease this time. I have taken help of browser caching by setting the expires header of static content to very far date. When i access the form through its link second or later times it loads fast without saying 40 files remaining. but when i do f5 it reloads the entire page. I m confused as to how is f5 different from clicking on the link. Just to add my url is https.Any suggestion to increase the performance of this form will be great.

• How is the Tomcat temp directory location defined?

  I am running Tomcat bundled with Liferay5.2.3 and use Eclipse 3.5 (Galileo) as my IDE. I set up my Tomcat server in Eclipse as per this blog entry: http://www.jroller.com/holy/entry/developing_portlets_for_liferay_in. If I start Tomcat via the Eclipse server config, Liferay/Tomcat uses my C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temp\ directory. However, if I start Tomcat directly using the startup.bat script, Liferay/Tomcat uses the Tomcat temp directory. I can't figure out if Eclipse, Liferay or Tomcat is deciding which temp directory to use or how to change it. I would prefer to use the Tomcat temp directory. I have this issue with both the Lifera/Tomcat bundles 5.5 and 6.0 (liferay-portal-tomcat-6.0-5.2.3.zip and liferay-portal-tomcat-5.5-5.2.3.zip). Anybody have any clues?

• AppDomain.UnhandeledException event not fired

  In a WPF application, the app simply crashes, without the above event being fired. (I'm also registered to DispatcherUnhandeledException, which doesn't fire as well.) I conclude that it doesn't fire since the handler is defined to place a log entry. When looking at the log, there's no corresponding entry. It happens in a production environment; I'm unable to point at a particular scenario. I've read few descriptions on scenarios where this might happen, but I still don't have a clear grasp on this. Can anyone share his experience / knowledge on this? How can I find the root of the crash and solve it? Many thanks.

• Storing Templates and Object-Oriented vs Relational Databases

  I'm designing some custom blog software, and have run into a conundrum regarding database design. The software requires that there be multiple content types, each of which will require different entry forms and presentation templates. My initial instinct is to create these content types as objects, then serialize them and store them in the database as JSON or YAML, with the entry forms and templates as simple strings attached to the "contentTypes" table. This seems cumbersome, however. Are there established best practices for dealing with this design? Is this a use case where I should consider an object database? If I should be using an object database, which should I consider? I am currently working in Python and would prefer a capable Python library, but can move to Java if need be.

  I read the following page: Robert Benson's article on ECF developers.sun.com/solaris/articles/event_completion.html I also read the Solaris man pages but they are not very clear of how to use event notifications for directories. For example, If I add a new file into a directory, I would like to get some notification of that event. • F10 isn't working properly in VS2005

  When project is stopped (not in the debugging state) and you press F10, normally the debugging session starts and VS stops at the entry point (e.g. Program.Main). That always worked for me in VS2005 and works OK in VS2008. But recently that stopped working in my VS2005 - the project just runs as if I pressed F5, so I have to place a breakpoint at Program.Main when I need to stop at the entry point. Though it continues to work as it should in my VS2008. I suspect, that's because I installed Reflector add-in and it changed some settings in VS2005, but I just can't find out which settings. Also, disabling that add-in has no effect on my issue :-( Please help, thanks in advance.

The query is such that you give it a k and it returns kth smallest entry in that database. we need to find nth smallest entry among all the 2n elements in O(logn) queries. the idea is to use divide and conquer but i need some help thinking through this. thanks!

  When I open the help (.chm) application, I could see table of contents. By default, the first entry in the file is selected, however I couldn't see the corresponding page data. Instead, I see "This program cannot display the web page" (the default error message that comes in IE7).The page is displayed only when I click on any of the contents on the left side. Is there a way of showing the page by default without clicking on the entry? The following code is the .hhp file. • Adding an host programmatically (name resolution under Windows)

  I would like to programmatically add to Windows a name / IP association so that this name can be resolved locally. This does not have to be persisted between reboots. The only way I now is to add an entry to the "hosts" file, but this feels hacky especially since I would like to automate this. Is there any way to do this using a command-line tool or a Win32 API? Perhaps by addind an entry to Windows DNS cache or something similar? Oh, and please state if this solution is Vista-compatible. Regards. Edit : Thanks, guy. Sadly, all of your answers indeed involve DNS or other servers. I was looking for a purely local solution which would work on a "standard" Windows installation.   I have a simple application to store address details and edit them. I have been away from VB for a few years now and need to refreash my knowledge while working to a tight deadline. I have a general Sub responsible for displaying a form where user can add contact details (by pressing button add) and edit them (by pressing button edit). This sub is stored in a class Contact. The way it is supposed to work is that there is a list with all the contacts and when new contact is added a new entry is displayed. If user wants to edit given entry he or she selects it and presses edit button Public Sub Display() Dim C As New Contact C.Cont = InputBox("Enter a title for this contact.") • URLClassLoader does not find folders in jar if not ending with '/'?

  A 3rd party library (jersey) is trying to find Java packages by ClassLoader#findResource passing in the package name as file name (replacing dots with slashes). What I see is that if I pass a package name as 'a.b.c' (converted to 'a/b/c') it is not found, but if I pass 'a.b.c.' it is found. This translated directly to URL#inputStream that uses ZipFile which doesn't find the entry a/b/c, but finds the entry a/b/c/ I'm trying to find if this is the intended behavior or is there something wrong with my packaging (maven) or the URLs passed to the classloader (which look like jar:file://C:/.../foo.jar!/)

• How do I chain forms in Access? (pass values between them)

  Hello, I'm using Access 2007 and have a data model like this... Passenger - Bookings - Destinations So 1 Passenger can have Many Bookings, each for 1 Destinations. My problem... I can create a form to allow the entry of Passenger details, but I then want to add a NEXT button to take me to a form to enter the details of the Booking (i.e. just a simple drop list of the Destinations). I've added the NEXT button and it has the events of RunCommand SaveRecord OpenForm Destination_form BUT, I cant work out how to pass accross to the new form the primary key of the passenger that was just entered (PassengerID). I'd really like to have just one form, and that allow the entry of the Passenger details and the selection of a Destination, that then creates the entries in the 2 Tables (Passenger & Bookings), but I can't get that to work either. Can anyone help me out please? Thanks Jeff Porter

• MySQL INSERT data does not get stored in proper db, only temporary?

  I'm having trouble with MySQL or Python and can't seem to isolate the problem. INSERTs only seem to last the run of the script and are not stored in the database. I have this script: import MySQLdb db = MySQLdb.connect(host="localhost", user="user", passwd="password", db="example") dbcursor = db.cursor() dbcursor.execute("select * from tablename") temp = dbcursor.fetchall() print 'before: '+str(temp) dbcursor.execute('INSERT INTO tablename (data1, data2, data3) VALUES ("1", "a", "b")') dbcursor.execute("select * from tablename") temp = dbcursor.fetchall() print 'after: '+str(temp) The first time I run it I get the expected output: >>> before: () after: ((1L, 'a', 'b'),) The problem is that if I run it again, the before comes out empty when it should already have the entry in it and the after doesn't break (data 1 is primary key). >>> before: () after: ((1L, 'a', 'b'),) >>> before: () after: ((1L, 'a', 'b'),) >>> before: () after: ((1L, 'a', 'b'),) If I try running the insert command twice in the same script it will break ("Duplicate entry for PRIMARY KEY") Any idea what might be happening here?
