• Remotely from Chrome or IE page loads ~60seconds, from Firefox or IE on local machine - instantly.

- by Janis Veinbergs
The problem: If i access SharePoint from Windows 7 with IE8 or Chrome5 - I must wait for like a minute to get a response. If i use other Windows 7 with IE8, just the same - just wait a MINUTE. If i use Firefox3.6 on W7 machine - page opens up instantly. Now switch to IE rendering engine in Firefox, you will have to wait just as with IE. Now i tried IE8 on XP SP3 - page opens up instantly. I tried IE8 on Windows Server 2003 SP2 (machine on which SharePoint is hosted) - page opens up instantly. IIS6 Logs I did request almost instantly from all 3 browsers and this is what shows up in IIS logs (first 2 entries for each browser): Chrome Ok, IIS saw first Chrome request when i Hit enter in browser, but i had to wait long for things to move on 2010-06-01 05:46:04 W3SVC1794621940 192.168.0.9 GET /sapulces - 80 - 192.168.0.186 Mozilla/5.0+(Windows;+U;+Windows+NT+6.1;+en-US)+AppleWebKit/533.4+(KHTML,+like+Gecko)+Chrome/5.0.375.55+Safari/533.4 401 2 2148074254 Loading... 2010-06-01 05:47:07 W3SVC1794621940 192.168.0.9 GET /sapulces - 80 - 192.168.0.186 Mozilla/5.0+(Windows;+U;+Windows+NT+6.1;+en-US)+AppleWebKit/533.4+(KHTML,+like+Gecko)+Chrome/5.0.375.55+Safari/533.4 401 1 0 ... etc... Where would be the problem? Browser? OS? I don't even know what to think about. Just a note Just a note about chrome's process isolation: I found it sad that while I was waiting that minute with Chrome, i could not use any other tab (i could switch, but i could not, for example, scroll or use any controls)

• How can I install firefox automatically, and set some settings?

- by James.Elsey
Hi. I need to install firefox on 100+ machines, I've done a few manually but its too much of a task to do the whole lot. I need to : Install firefox executable Set "dont import anything(from Internet Explorer)" Set default browser to "no" Set default browser not to check again Copy a shortcut onto the desktop that goes to a specific URL I know this should be able to be implemented with an MSI package, but could I also set those settings? Thanks

• How can I prevent firefox from using bitmap fonts at certain zoom levels?

- by Ryan Thompson
In firefox 3.6 on Ubuntu 9.10, certain sites seem to use bitmap fonts for any fixed-width fonts, but only at specific zoom levels. This site and other stackexchange sites are among the affected sites, and of course the default zoom level is affected. At unaffected zoom levels, I get the expected smooth curvy fonts. How can I make firefox use the nice curvy smooth fonts at all zoom levels?

• How to reinstate toolbars on an embedded PDF with Firefox and Adobe Reader plugin?

- by Grundlefleck
Using Firefox I was viewing a PDF file embedded within a web page, with the toolbar available. After right-clicking to deselect the toolbar (I was testing something) I cannot find a way to reinstate them. Since the toolbar is enabled by right clicking on the toolbar area, when it's disabled, it's not obvious how to reenable it. When the toolbars have been disabled and no longer visible, how do you reinstate them? Version info: Firefox 3.6.3 Adobe Reader 9.3 Kubuntu 10.04

• Does Chrome use a different DNS server while Firefox and IE use a different one?

- by Jian Lin
Is the common set up for Chrome that it will use a different DNS server, while Firefox and IE will use a different one? My Chrome (including the one on the virtual PC) will sometimes "Resolving host" and wait there for 20, 30 seconds, while Firefox and IE won't. (so after 20, 30 seconds with a blank page, the page will finally not be able to load). So is there something that Chrome is doing that make the difference?

Every time that I start up Firefox with the intent to go to a specific page, I end up typing half the URL in the Google search box when iGoogle steals focus away from the URL bar. • jQuery trigger uploadify click event not working in firefox FF

- by drew
I want to select an option on a drop down box and for this to trigger the uploadify available to jQuery which lets you upload a file. My solution works in IE7 but not FF. When you change the drop down it should show a window to browse for a file to upload. In FF nothing appears. In IE everything works. JS is enabled in FF, if I insert alert messages it gets to the point of triggering the click on the input button. 0 1 $(document).ready(function() { $('.fileupload1').uploadify({ 'uploader' : '../../../admin/uploadFileResources/uploadify.swf', 'script' : '../../../admin/uploadFileResources/upload.cfm', 'cancelImg' : '../../../admin/uploadFileResources/cancel.png', 'folder' : '../../../upload_BE/offers/htmlfiles/5953/images/', 'multi' : true }); $('.selectLogoTop').change(function(){ $('.fileupload1').trigger("click"); }); });

• Headless, scriptable Firefox/Webkit on linux?

- by Parand
I'm looking to automate some web interactions, namely periodic download of files from a secure website. This basically involves entering my username/password and navigating to the appropriate URL. I tried simple scripting in Python, followed by more sophisticated scripting, only to discover this particular website is using some obnoxious javascript and flash based mechanism for login, rendering my methods useless. I then tried HTMLUnit, but that doesn't seem to want to work either. I suspect use of Flash is the issue. I don't really want to think about it any more, so I'm leaning towards scripting an actual browser to log in and grab the file I need. Requirements are: Run on linux server (ie. no X running). If I really need to have X I can make that happen, but I won't be happy. Be reliable. I want to start this thing and never think about it again. Be scriptable. Nothing too sophisticated, but I should be able to tell the browser the various steps to take and pages to visit. Are there any good toolkits for a headless, X-less scriptable browser? Have you tried something like this and if so do you have any words of wisdom?

• Firefox extension object instantiating

- by Michael
I want my javascript object to be initialized just once, so each new browser window will not create new data items, new functions, etc... usually we initialize the code at the end of main javascript using load window.addEventListener("load", main.onLoad, false); so once the second browser window opened, the initialization code will start from scratch. However, I would like to re-use the existing object on consequent browsers. Any mechanism that I can use?

• jQuery selector syntax gives Firefox warning

- by FreekOne
The following code stringref = "tab_2"; jQuery('.someclass a:not(.someclass #a_someclass_'+stringref+')').css('color', '#000'); gives me this warning in the FF 3.5.5 error console and I can't figure out why: Warning: Missing closing ')' in negation pseudo-class '#a_someclass_tab_2'. Is my syntax failing me or has FF gone bonkers ?

• Modify EXE to stop launching firefox

- by Random Joe
I'm using a wireless modem program from my ISP. This program automatically disconnect when it detects the line is idle. It does so in 2-5 minutes of idle time. Whenever I reconnect, It will automatically fire up my default browser to the ISP portal. I DID NOT pay them to shove their web portal in my face 50 times a day. The ISP provides no options for disabling this behavior. Can someone please show me how to hex edit the EXE program to stop it from annoying the hell out of me?

• Unicode special characters - Dingbats - Appear differently in Firefox vs. Chrome/IE

- by Oren
Hi there, I'm trying to find a way to make dingbats appear exactly the same in Firefox, Chrome, Safari and IE. I noticed that the Dingbats appear the same in IE/Chrome/Safari, HOWEVER - in Firefox - they look "thiner". For example - try to visit the following page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dingbat You'll notice that when viewing that page in Firefox - the characters look different in comparison to Chrome/IE. Does anybody know why and how can I cause Firefox to display the characters EXACTLY like they appear in Chrome/IE? Thx, Oren.

• Frameset frame cached by Firefox

- by dragonfly
Hi, I have a html page which contains nested frameset (don't ask why, I'm only servicing the app ;) ). What bothers me, is why FF caches Header.htm file constantly. I had to use clear cache to force browser to download it again. ctrl+f5 didn't help. <frameset rows="68,*" border="0" frameborder="no" framespacing="0"> <frame name="header" src="/Header.htm" scrolling="no" noresize> <frame name="footer" src="/Login.aspx?w=<% =company %>&loc=<% =ccdom %>"> </frameset> Any ideas what is responsible for that behaviour? On the other hand, IE downloads the file without a hassle. Thanks, Pawel

• Running custom Javascript on every page in Mozilla Firefox

- by saturn
I have a custom piece of Javascript which I would like to run on every web page from specific domains, or perhaps simply on every web page. (If you are wondering: it is not malicious. It allows to display formulas by using MathJax.) Is that possible? I tried including it in userContent.css, that of course did not work. A simple Greasemonkey script I tried did not insert it. Is it because of the security precautions? (Which would be very logical). Still, there should be a way to do it on the machine I physically control, by changing something in Mozilla chrome directory, shouldn't it? Anyway, how can I do this for myself?

• firefox: getting access to the list of tabs/windows to restore on startup

- by robb
Sometimes ffox fails to restore the previously open tabs/windows. This might be happening when some of the urls to be opened are no longer reachable (e.g. behind a vpn) or after the underlying OS (Windows) has been forcibly restarted (e.g. to complete an automated patch installation). Anyway, after restarting, can this list of urls be recovered somehow? Say for example, I was daft enough to have clicked on "start new session". Can I still get access to the old list of open urls? There is the browser history of course, but it contains a lot of stuff - the urls that were open when ffox last exited are not obvious. It would be neat if they were marked in some way - tagged for example. .robb

• How to change behavior of items in Firefox context menu

- by tom
Hi, I'm trying to change the behavior of in placesOverlay.xul. My goal is to disable the Properties entry upon conditions that I need to figure out using Javascript. I am new to XBL bindings and handlers and don't know how to register such a handler for an existing/browser-defined XUL element. Or is there a simpler way? Thanks.

• Problem with jQuery's fade in/out in Firefox

- by GaVrA
I already asked here with no luck, but feel free to read it: http://groups.google.com/group/jquery-en/browse%5Fthread/thread/fdf7a584b30d4bb9 Hmm check out my site: http://www.crtaci.info/ on top-right position i have search field. When you move your mouse over there small text shows up that says: Napredna pretraga Now, for some reason those letters change color to like yellow for very short period of time in ff 3.5 and to some strange color in safari 4.0.2 for win. In ie8, opera and chrome it works just the way it should, white letters stay white during the animation. Any sugestions? here is function that do this job ;) $('#header_search').hover(function() { $('#naprednaPretraga').stop({clearQueue:true}).show().animate({"opacity" : 1},500); }, function(){ $('#naprednaPretraga').stop({clearQueue:true}).animate({"opacity" : 0},500,function() { $('#naprednaPretraga').hide(); }); });
