• How do I fix Internet Explorer / Firefox differences in Oracle JD Edwards Enterprise?

  Our company uses Oracle's JD Edwards Enterprise to do accounting work. We have an application consultant working for us to just deal JD Edwards but he is of non-technical background so only helps in application-specific support. All of our users should use IE 7 for JDE. About 15-20% of those users have problems which cause them to not be able to use IE 7. So those problematic users use firefox. For the most part firefox works fine but there are a few issues. Some menus / options within JDE that are present in IE 7 are not present in firefox. If I could get all of our users working under IE 7, all the firefox issues would be mute points. I have cross referenced Internet Options settings from a working IE 7 user and a non-working IE 7 user. All settings seem to be mirrored. I'm not sure how to go about continuing to troubleshoot this issue. So not only answers but just suggestive ideas for attack would be appreciated. Thanks

      I am about to install a dedicated VOIP server in our office. It is a 3CX pbx system on Windows 7/8 machine. The environment currently is a Windows SBS 2011 with 8 client machines. I want to use a dedicated broadband connection for the PBX (3CX) box, but the box also needs to be accessible in the local network as we will be using IP Phones and software IP phones. How configure two network cards on PBX box, so that one will be always used to connect to our SIP host over the Internet and the other will be connected to local network accessible from other client pc to connect to the pbx system. It must be noted that currently the Windows SBS 2011 acts as the Primary Domain Controller and gateway for all the client machines.     I cannot use a load balancer as it will conflict and cause issues within the current setup of our SBS2011 as it is also our Exchange Server. • I can't connect to internet via lan cable because 2032 battery died and my bios bios info is now empty [closed]

  I have a compaq CQ61-112SL from about 5 years now... the main battery is almost dead, doesn't keep more then 10 minutes. anyway my problem is that my motherboard battery didn't have any more energy left a few days ago and since then I can't access internet through lan cable but only via wifi. I need cable though. I saw that on my BIOS setup page there were a bunch of parameters missing like serial number, UUID, product number and stuff like that. Also when I start the notebook it prints something like : No serial found. or something like that. I don't really know if the reason why my lan cable doesn't work is the empty BIOS but i assume that's it. If it's not please enlighten me. Or anyway tell me how to update the serial number and product number to the real ones (instead of the 0000000000000 that is now in my bios). I downloaded HP DMI which should make it possible to set these variables on the BIOS but i'm on Windows 8 64bit and the executable file that I need to open for my laptop model says it can't run on 64 bit.

• Reading files from an embedded ZIP archive

  I have a ZIP archive that's embedded inside a larger file. I know the archive's starting offset within the larger file and its length. Are there any Java libraries that would enable me to directly read the files contained within the archive? I am thinking along the lines of ZipFile.getInputStream(). Unfortunately, ZipFile doesn't work for this use case since its constructors require a standalone ZIP file. For performance reasons, I cannot copy the ZIP achive into a separate file before opening it. edit: Just to be clear, I do have random access to the file.

• View Word Definitions in IE 8 with the Define with Bing Accelerator

  Do you need an easy way to view word definitions while browsing with Internet Explorer? The Define with Bing Accelerator will display definitions in the same (or a new) tab and save you time while browsing. Using Define with Bing The installation consists of two steps. First, click on Add to Internet Explorer to start the process. Next you will be asked to confirm the installation. Once you have clicked Add your new accelerator is ready to use (no browser restart required). Whenever you encounter a word that needs defining highlight it, click on the small blue square, go to All Accelerators, and then Define with Bing. There are two ways to access the definition: Hover your mouse over the Define with Bing text to open a small popup window Click on Define with Bing to open a definition search in a new tab Being able to access a definition or explanation in the same tab will definitely save you time while browsing. In the example shown here you can get an idea of what SCORM means but clicking on the links inside the popup window is not recommended (webpage opens in popup and is not resizable). In the situation shown above it is better to click on Define with Bing and see more information in a new tab. • cURL works but PHP cURL fails to internet [migrated]

  Trying to diagnose an issue using PHP to cURL to an Internet location on a RedHat Linux server. cURL is installed and working, and: <?php var_dump(curl_version()); ?> shows all the correct information in the output. The issue is I can use PHP to cURL to localhost on the box itself, but not the Internet (see below). Normally I'd suspect the firewall, but I can cURL from the command line to the Internet without a problem. The box can also update it's own software packages, etc. What am I missing? • Best Way to Archive Digital Photos and Avoid Duplicate File Names

  This problem pertains to archiving of digital pictures taken from multiple cameras. Answers here covered the general topic of the-mechanics-of-backups: How do you archive digital photos and videos ? I however face another problem. Having multiple cameras (canon) and multiple SD cards (mixed and matched at random), I have found that different SD cards have different photos with the same file name, i.e. two different photos each name IMG_3141.JPG. Additionally, for better or worse, I've backed up the files to multiple places and need to consolidate my backups. I want to eliminate duplicates, but not clobber files. The only way I can think of is to append the code (md5 or sha1) to the file name, i.e. IMG_3141.JPG becomes IMG_3141_KT229QZ31415926ASDF.JPG, then sorting them out Any better ways? • The PATRIOT Act and how it relates to the Internet

  The subject of the Internet and anonymity is a very sticky situation for me because I primarily develop web applications for a living.  As a part of my job I have to track users as they enter, navigate and leave specific applications. The level of tracking depends on where the user goes within a website.  The basic information that I capture includes the user’s IP address, browser type, operating system, the date/time they entered the site and the URL from which the user was referred to the website. In addition to the custom logging that is placed on the website, web servers also have methods of logging built-in as well. Web server logging allows companies to have a central repository to store all user activity across the entire server. Not to mention that they can also create a central repository that allows multiple servers to store log files in one location. This allows users to be tracked across multiple servers as they browse website located on a specific collection of servers that host multiple websites. All this being said there are methods to attempt to protect your privacy by using proxy servers and increasing your browser security levels, but that will only limit the amount of logging not eliminate it. I have to agree with Traynor when he states that the PATRIOT Act eviscerates the constitutional protections of anonymous communication on the Internet. Therefore, given the recent passage and implementation of the PATRIOT Act, the constitutional guarantees of the right to anonymity have been severely compromised. I think that the PATRIOT Act is a direct violation of our first amendment rights because it allows for the government to directly monitor any and all activity on the internet including communications, usage, and transactions that can occur.  This opens the door to scrutiny and persecution of individuals who are not in line with the government’s beliefs and actions. If England had this type of monitoring capabilities during the revolutionary war, I believe it would have been almost impossible to succeed from England.

• Squid 3 and Internet Explorer 11 with authentication

  Need some help. My college has up until now been running Squid 3 on Ubuntu 12.02 and now 14.04 successfully. That was till recently. Our WSUS server is dishing out updates to all our workstations of which Internet Explorer 11 is one of them. Now all of a sudden users do not need to authenticate via the squid proxy to be able to use the internet. This makes it rather difficult as I also use SARG to generate usage logs for all users each day. All our workstations also have Chrome on them, and Chrome authenticates fine via the Squid proxy. Doing a couple of Googles, I ran into and article, where someone made mention that Microsoft has deprecated digest and basic authentication from IE 11. Reason was given that Office 2013 was giving problems as it was not giving the popup screen for authentication when Office tries to download templates from the internet. I have run into this problem, but by setting those sites to not authenticate via squid fixed the problem. Has anyone else run into something similiar? Would changing to NTLM or Kereberos be a solution?

• What is the easiest way to get MySQL's Archive Storage Engine working on CentOS 5.4

  The Archive Storage Engine is not enabled by the default build of MySQL in CentOS/RHEL. I would like to enable it on our CentOS 5.4 server. My initial reaction was to modify the SPEC file for the SRPMS file, but this indicates that this might not be that easy. There's always the option to build from MySQL source, but I would prefer if possible to stay within the RPMS/Yum world. Does anybody have a successful approach to this by using RPMS/SRPMS/Yum? Some patches which makes this work flawless with SRPMS?

• I don't know how to connect to the internet

  I'm having some trouble finding an answer to my problem. I have a dell desktop (studio hybrid) and i have windows vista on it. The internet on windows vista works great, no problem. But now i downloaded Ubuntu 11.10 and I'm having problems. I can't find how to connect to my wireless network, when i click the network icon, it shows a list of things but I can only click 'enable wireless network' or something like that and 'edit connections'. But in this list it also says ( in a grey collor and i can't click it ) : 'No wireless connection, device not ready (firmware missing)" Or something like that. Now i tried several things i read on the internet (using my vista OS cause i can't use ubuntu for the internet, which is really enoying). But none of them helped me. I would like someone to tell me what my problem is or what information I have to give you to get an answer. So tell me if i have to edit a connection, or tell me how i have to get the wireless connection to work and to repair the 'firmware missing problem'. I hope someone can/is willing to help me. Bye

  Say I have unpacked a gz-compressed tar file, and do not remember what changes I made to the unpacked files, or I archived a folder a while ago and want to know what has changed to the files since. I can use tar -zd to get an overview. Then, say it shows me file foo has changed. How can I see the changes in this file, i.e. the difference between the file on my file system and the (older) file in the archive (ideally in vimdiff, but diff output would be fine too)?

• Maker Faire Report - Teaching Kids Java SE Embedded for Internet of Things (IoT)

  I had a great time at this year's Maker Faire 2014 in San Mateo, Calif. where Jake Kuramoto and the AppsLab crew including Noel Portugal, Anthony Lai, Raymond, and Tony set up a super demo at the DiY table. It was a simple way to learn how Java SE Embedded technology could be used to code the Internet of Things (IoT) devices on the table. The best part of our set-up was seeing the kids sit down and do some coding without all the complexity of a Computer Science course. It was very encouraging to see how interested the kids were when walking them through the programming steps, then seeing their eyes light up when telling them, "You just coded a Java enabled Internet of Things device!" as the Raspberry Pi-connected devices turned on or started to move from their Java Embedded program. See: The AppsLab at Maker Faire It will be interesting to see how this next generation of kids grow up with all these Internet of Things devices around them and watch how they will program them. Hopefully, they will be using Java SE Embedded technology to do so. • Manage Large E-Book Archive

  I have a very large e-book archive (approx. 1TB) including various file formats eg. PDF, DJVU, MOBI and EPUB. I put them in different folders by subject eg. Engineering, Programming etc. But after many years, things are going crazy. The programming folder itself is 220GB and file names are cryptic. Some filenames are well defined like: 236659889_Final_Report_of_2012_Climate_Change_Conference.pdf but some filenames are just ISBN numbers or just download.pdf. I need an application for organizing and searching my e-books. I already tried Calibre, Mendeley and Debenu. But all these apps try to import files first and I dont have any spare 1+ TB for the apps import folder. Is there any good Windows application for just indexing filenames and contents of ebooks without importing them?

• Cannot connect to Internet via Wifi

  I have a laptop that's currently configured as a dual-boot. The problem: I cannot connect to the Internet in the home wireless network through Ubuntu in the apartment where I currently live. The strange part: I can connect to it just fine through Windows (as right now), and I can use the Internet through Ubuntu on this computer with all the other wireless networks I have tried. The problem is only with this particular combination. The only possible explanations I can think of are either that this network is WPS, or that it's a driver problem--Vodafone router. The router 'sees' the computer--and it says it's connected; however, I keep getting prompted for a password, and I enter the key that works with Windows, but in Ubuntu it just keeps asking for it repeatedly, and I can't access the Internet. I don't have an ethernet cable at the moment, but if someone would be so kind as to ask me questions I will gladly answer, and if you have suggestions, I will do them--the only thing is, I am subletting this apartment from someone who is away on vacation, so I don't want to screw with the router settings unless I know what I'm doing! - I do not have Wicd - Yes, I have the router's information (key works in Windows) - Feedback of lshw says that the wireless card is Ultimate N Wifi Link 5300, vendor: Intel Corporation, physical id: 0 ,etc. The first two commands I was told to try work OK, but when I typed sudo ifconfig wlan0 essid ..... I got back 'essid: Unknown host' Would my question be better on the Ubuntu forums than here on AU?

  A linux machine is connected to internet over two interfaces ppp0 and ppp1 using two modems. Also this machine acts as wireless access point through an interface say, eth0 with ip address 192.168.1.1 and acts as gateway for the connected devices through this network with subnet mask 255.255.255.0 Now is it possible to achieve the following: When any of the connected devices through wireless AP needs internet connection linux machine has to use ppp1 interface for internet. If any of the applications on the linux machine needs internet connection linux machine should use ppp0 interface for the internet. Can this be achieved by adding rules to chains in filter/nat tables? If the kernel routing table has a default rule to route the default traffic through interface ppp0, wil kernel completely ignore ppp1 for internet? PS: new to networking and routing concepts, If the question is not clear leave a comment, will try to give more information.

• VirtualBox - Mac OSX host Win7 guest - no Internet access for guest VM

  I have a Mac running OSX 10.9.2, and I just downloaded and installed a Win7 IE9 VM in VirtualBox. My Mac uses Wi-Fi for internet access, and it's behind a proxy (it's a work machine). VirtualBox loads the VM fine, and at some point the VM can see the DNS servers of the host. But I've never been able to make the VM have internet access. I've tried all kinds of combinations of Network settings on the VM via the VirtualBox Settings, in conjunction with Internet Sharing in OSX's System Preferences, but no luck. Has anyone done a similar setup and made the VM successfully connect to the Internet? Thanks in advance for any inputs. [ Update: I was able to get internet access for the VM when the host was using my home network. When I ran the VPN software to connect to the work network, the internet access went away again.] (Initially posted this on stackoverflow.com, but it was put on hold as off-topic by several users, and was advised to ask here instead)

• Windows XP self-installing virus [closed]

  Do you remember. Some years ago, there was a huge virus attacking Windows XP in its first version. Once you had installed Windows XP, and on your first internet access, the virus installed itself on your computer, closing your internet connection and making the computer reboot after some seconds. I wonder... How can a virus install itslef this way from nowhere ? Without any user action. You install Windows XP... the computer just connects itself to the internet (assuming Microsoft don't connect to bad sites on its first connection)... and you have a virus. There is something magic I don't understand here. Can someone explain me how that virus could attack Windows that way, without any user action on a fresh installed system...

• Using Ubuntu with a dial-up connection

  Is it possible to install Ubuntu on a machine with only a dial-up connection? That is, does the Ubuntu install CD come with everything needed to set up an Internet connection using a dial-up modem (I have a USRobotics Courier V.Everything connected to a RS232 port on a Lava Quattro-PCI). I presently run CentOS (5.9), which does include support for dialup Internet access out-of-the-box (all of the modules for dialup are on the distro DVD). When I ran the UBuntu CD (12.04.1 desktop), there was no sign of dial-up Internet support. Am I faced with a chicken or egg problem?

• Auto-archive IMAP mail folders on OS X

  Hi, I am trying to achieve the following. Download all messages from mail server(and remove downloaded messages from server). Downloaded messages should be in a local mailbox preserving folder structure as was defined on server. The download process should be automatic and shouldn't create duplicates. I am on OSX and looking for solutions using Apple Mail or Thunderbird or similar. So far I have found POP is not the way to go (as it looses folder structure and potentially can cause duplicates). The solution described here seems very good but isn't yet available for thunderbird or apple mail. http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/topics/auto_archive_and_keep_folder_structure. The other alternative is outlook which has auto archive which is paid and I think exports to pst instead of the more common mbox format. Yet another alternative is http://www.pop4.org/ which adds support for folder management to POP. Which I don't think is going to become usable soon. Any other better solutions.? Thank you

• Xcode "Build and Archive" from command line

  Xcode 3.2 provides an awesome new feature under the Build menu, "Build and Archive" which generates an .ipa file suitable for Ad Hoc distribution. You can also open the Organizer, go to "Archived Applications," and "Submit Application to iTunesConnect." Is there a way to use "Build and Archive" from the command line (as part of a build script)? I'd assume that xcodebuild would be involved somehow, but the man page doesn't seem to say anything about this.
