• How do I change the JAVA_HOME for ant?

  I'm doing java work on a class server where I don't have root. Whenever I try to compile using ant, it points to the wrong directory (/usr/tomcat instead of /usr/tomcat/jre ). One of the things we were told to do when setting up our user accounts was to add export JAVA_HOME=/usr/tomcat/jre to the .bashrc file. I don't know if that was supposed to take care of the problem but it doesn't seem to. So, how can I change the JAVA_HOME property for ant but only for when I run ant? EDIT: echo $JAVA_HOME points to /usr/tomcat/jre echo $JAVA_HOME\bin points to /usr/tomcat/jrebin The problem is when I normally run ant I get this error: Unable to locate tools.jar. Expected to find it in /usr/tomcat/lib/tools.jar Buildfile: build.xml compile: [javac] Compiling 1 source file to /home/ejm244/build/classes BUILD FAILED /home/ejm244/build.xml:9: Unable to find a javac compiler; com.sun.tools.javac.Main is not on the classpath. • Getting NoClassDefFoundError only with TestCases

  I have one class, that creates excel sheet.For that I added poi-3.2.jar to classpath. I am working with Eclipse3.7. I have generated testcases by recording workbench actions using with WindowTester Pro. I edited generated testcase and tried to create excel sheet within that to write test result. If I use same API from normal java program (within that plugin itself), it can able to create excel file without errors. But, when I try to create from testcase, I am getting the following error: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/poi/hssf/usermodel/HSSFWorkbook I have added required jar file into lib folder and added to build-path. Why its working from normal java program, but not working from WindowTester generated testcase. Could anyone help me.

• Where to place log4j.xml

  Hi , How can we specify were log4j has to look at when trying to find its xml configuration file ? It seems that by default, log4j looks into the root of a class folder, I can say that using the debug log4j functionality and running my application from the IDE. However, I don't have any class folder in my jar anymore. And the log4j.xml file is at the root of the jar. I have already tried to set the option -Dlog4j.configuration=log4j.xml but it doesn't work. Here is the global structure of my application at the moment : com lib meta-inf log4j.xml Thanks !

  I want to get a notification if someone has performed an action in an android app from outside of the app. I don't want to make any (android) code changes. To do the actions I use the Chimpchat.jar, the .jar that the monkeyrunner tool uses. To be clear: Can I get a notification or register listeners on components from outside of the app? e.g. Run my android app My java application links into the device with chimpChat via the adb The user touches a button My java application gets a notification what was performed = am I able to get that information?   Hi, What I want to do is index some documents in Solr and know how it works. I have installed Solr and Tomcat and can see Solr Admin UI at localhost:8080/ solr/ admin/ Now, I want to add some documents to the index, may I know how to proceed further? I find very less documentation on Internet regarding this. In the tutorial http://lucene.apache.org/solr/tutorial.html#Indexing+Data they asked to run java -jar post.jar solr.xml monitor.xml command but after running that I get connection refused error as it is jetty. After installing jetty I tried telnet: I get "Connection refused" error I am not able to understand what the problem is.

  Hello, I'm trying to make sense on the best way to do automatize a series of things in a row in order to deploy a web-app and haven't yet came up with a suitable solution. I would like to: use google's compiler.jar to minify my JS use yahoo's yui-compressor.jar to minify my CSS access a file and change a string so that header files like "global.css?v=21" get served the correct version deploy the app (sftp, mercurial or rsync?) omitting certain directories like "/userfiles" Can you guys put me on the right track to solve this? • Deploy java (command line) app using Netbeans / ant

  I've finally managed to create a Netbeans project out of an old standalone (not Web-) Java application which consisted only out of single .java sources. Now I have basically two questions regarding Netbeans Subversion interaction and application deployment: Do you check in all the Netbeans project files into the repository, normally? If I build the project using Netbeans (or ant) I get a .jar file and some additional jar libraries. In order for the app to run properly on the server, some additional config files and directories (log/ for example) are needed. The application itself is a J2SE application (no frameworks) which runs from the command line on a Linux platform. How would you deploy and install such an application? It would also be nice if I could see what version of app is currently installed (maybe by appending the version number to the installed app path). Thanks for any tips.

• Maven best practice for generating artifacts for multiple environments [prod, test, dev] with CI/Hud

  I have a project that need to be deployed into multiple environments (prod, test, dev). The main differences mainly consist in configuration properties/files. My idea was to use profiles and overlays to copy/configure the specialized output. But I'm stuck into if I have to generate multiple artifacts with specialized classifiers (ex: "my-app-1.0-prod.zip/jar", "my-app-1.0-dev.zip/jar") or should I create multiple projects, one project for every environment ?! Should I use maven-assembly-plugin to generate multiple artifacts for every environment ? Anyway, I'll need to generate all them at once so it seams that the profiles does not fit ... still puzzled :( Any hints/examples/links will be more than welcomed. As a side issue, I'm also wondering how to achieve this in a CI Hudson/Bamboo to generate and deploy these generated artifacts for all the environments, to their proper servers (ex: using SCP Hudson plugin) ?

But in my app i see the effect of appBlueTheme as GWT doc say "inherited modules will be cascaded in the order they are listed" I want theme to be changed based on user response. • Package not found; javac

  This is annoying. I have a directory structure like this -lib --some jar files -packageName --Main.java --SomeOtherPackage --SomeOtherJavaClass.java Main.java imports SomeOtherPackage. And both java files uses jars in the lib. What I do is add the jar files independently in the CLASSPATH. And then run as: javac packageName/Main.java but it gives the error that Package not found SomeOtherPackage . Shouldn't it automatically realize the dependency and build SomeOtherPackage as well? What would be the javac command and the classpath for the above case? Thanks

• Play! Framework - Can my view template be localised when rendering it as an AsyncResult?

  I've recently started using the Play! framework (v2.0.4) for writing a Java web application. In the majority of my controllers I'm following the paradigm of suspending the HTTP request until the promise of a web service response has been fulfilled. Once the promise has been fulfilled, I return an AsyncResult. But it seems that the HTTP request is inaccessible from the async method. I can see a couple of (unsatisfactory) ways to work around this: Go back to the 'one thread per request' paradigm and have threads block waiting for responses. Figure out which language to use at Controller level, and feed that choice into my template. I also suspect this might not be an issue on trunk. I know that there is a similar issue in 2.0.4 with regards to not being able to access or modify the Session object which has recently been fixed. However I'm stuck on 2.0.4 for the time being, so is there a better way that I can resolve this problem?

• Eclipse content assist with maven project not picking up all classes

  I'm using Eclipse 3.5.0, and have imported a maven project using the import maven project from SCM wizard (M2 plugin). I have a jar file as a dependency in my pom. and inside the jar is a complicated schema - with quite a number of XSD's. But the content assist doesn't seem to pick up the schema at all, nor a number of other classes in the dependency list. yet for another module in the same project it seems to work ok. Does anyone know why this is? it's driving me mad!

  How do I configure my project buildpath to have a set of .jar files located in the same directory automatically included in the buildpath ? Meaning that adding a new .jar file to this directory (and refreshing the project) updates the buildpath ? Rem : I am not working in a Webapp but in a standalone Java app. I know that it is possible in a Dynamic Web Project to have all the .jars located in WEB-INF/lib to be included in the build path. Is it possible to do kind of the same include but in standalone app ? I am using Eclipse 3.4

I compiled the files and locally and uploaded them to the server and when I run it, I get the "Service could not be initialized".I am not sure how to debug this. I am pretty new to java. But the strange thing is, that IF I did screen -x $PROCESS and detach (ctrl-A & ctrl-D) and then I use the Stop command it does work. So is there a way around to stuff printf without -screen -x the $PROCESS? Thank You in Advance

  How do I get bundled images with the BlackBerry Eclipse Plugin 1.1 Beta? I copied an image into "res/background.jpg" and tried to load it using Bitmap.getBitmapResource on background.jpg. Unfortunately, the image wasn't found (Illegal argument exception). I tried moving my image file into the src folder as per the advice here, but that didn't work either. I have opened up the .jar file and the background image is present at the root of the .jar file. The option to convert image files to .png isn't selected either. • Project works in eclipse but not when exported

  I wrote an application that uses GraphViz to generate some graphs as .gif's according to the DOT syntax. When I run from Eclipse the images are generated fine but when I export it as a jar the images are created but there is no data in them. When I view them in Microsoft Picture Viewer its just the red X. It was working as an exported jar until I put the picture generation in its own thread. I can't seem to figure out whats going on here. Are there any problems exporting multi-threaded projects? Any one have any ideas? Thanks

I'm using os.kill to do this: os.killpg(selenium_server_process.pid, signal.SIGTERM) selenium_server_process.wait() This does not work. The reason is that the shell subprocess spawns another processfor the java program, and the pid of that process is unknown to my python code. I've tried killing the process group with os.killpg, but that kills also the python process which runs this code in the first place. Setting shell to false, thus avoiding the java program to run inside a shell environment, is also out of the question, due to other reasons. Does anyone have an idea how I can kill the shell and any other processes generated by it? Cheers, Ulas

• Maven + Java package declaration

  We have a Maven project (packaged as JAR) with Java files. A new Java source file was recently added to this project. The path in which the Java file was added, does not match its package declaration. As expected, Eclipse shows an error in the class for the mismatch. However, Maven builds the project just fine. In the generated JAR file, the .class file is present in the path indicated by the package declaration. We tried moving the Java source file to other incorrect folders (i.e. different from the package declaration), but every time Maven builds the project fine. So, does Maven ignore the actual directory in which the .java file is present? Does it only consider package declaration?
