  • DNS Issue Windows 2003 AD-The server holding the PDC role is down

    Our network of Windows 2003 and Windows 2008 servers suddenly hasDNS issues. There are 7 DCs. Two at our main office and one each at branch sites (one branch has two a 2008R2 and WIN2K3) Only two are WIN2008R2 Running DCDIAG on the WIN2K3 at main site (DC1) reports no issues. Running at any branch site reports two issues All other test pass. The server DC1 can be PINGed by name from any site Starting test: frsevent There are warning or error events within the last 24 hours after the SYSVOL has been shared. Failing SYSVOL replication problems may cause Group Policy problems. Starting test: FsmoCheck Warning: DcGetDcName(PDC_REQUIRED) call failed, error 1355 A Primary Domain Controller could not be located. The server holding the PDC role is down. Netdom.exe /query DC reports the expected servers. netdom query fsmo This reports the server at the main office holds the following roles: * Schema owner Domain role owner PDC role RID pool manager Infrastructure owner In the DNS management snap-in, DC1 appears as DNS server but does not appear in _msdcs-dc-_sites-Default-First-Site-Name-_TCP There is no _ldap or –kerberos record pointing to DC1 Same issue msdcs-dc-_sites- -_TCP Again there is no _ldap or –kerberos record pointing to DC1 Under Domain DNS Zones there is no entry for the server. This is the case for any _tcp folder in the DNS. The server DC1 appears correctly as a name server in the Reverse Lookup Zone. There is a Host(A) record for DC1 but in the Forward Lookup Zone there is no (same as parent folder) Host(A) for the DC1 server but such an entry exists for the other DCs at branch sites and the other DC at the main office. We have tried stopping and starting the netlogon service, restarting DNS and also dcdiag /fix. Netdiag reports error: Trust relationship test. . . . . . : Failed [FATAL] Secure channel to domain 'XXX' is broken. [ERROR_NO_LOGON_SERVERS] [WARNING] Failed to query SPN registration on DC- One entry for each branch DC All braches lsit the problem server and it can be Pinged by name from any branch Fixing is number one priority but also would like to determine the casue.

At the moment I am thinking of passing a parameter in to SQL query and count the characters one by one and then sum, however I did not start the VBA part yet, and frankly wouldn't want to do that.     I have my Access 2007 database configured to use "Custom" groups in the navigation pane. I've grouped all my tables in a way that makes sense. However, whenever I update a link table, it loses its grouping. I have not been able to find a way to avoid this. Since it seems to be unavoidable, I'd like to simply have a macro that adds the table back to the right group programatically. I have not found any examples on how to do this. Any suggestions?

    Warning Long question :) We have a win 2003 server with a DNS server, every now and then it cant provide us with some A pointers for a specific domain. I have a small script running which asks for SOA,NS and A records for the domain in question and sometimes when the TTL expires the DNS fails to get the A records again, a Clear Cache fixes the problem..   • When importing an Access table into Excel, a look-up column is showing all values as numbers

    I have a basic Access to Excel question that has me frustrated. I have two Access 2010 data tables. One is a list of managers. The primary key is a manager ID (which is an autonumber because managers can have the same name), and each row also has manager name, manager email, etc. The second data table is a list of departments. The primary key for each row is a unique department code, and the foreign key is a manager ID (autonumber). I used the Look-up Wizard to create this connection. However, Access does not show the manager ID in the foreign key location. It shows Manager Name like I requested when I used the Look-up Wizard. Now I am trying to import the second table (departments) into Excel 2010. I clicked import from Access, chose the Department table, and everything popped into Excel. BUT, the Manager Name column is showing Manager ID instead. So I have a list of numbers instead of names. How can I make Excel show what I see in Access? Thanks!

Why am I getting such slow upload speeds to S3, and how can I improve them? Update: Uploading the same file via SCP to an m1.medium EC2 instance (SCP from my Linode to the instance's EBS drive) gives about 44 Mb/s according to iftop (any compression done by the cipher is not a factor). Searching led me to Public IPs on MPLS Traceroute, which gives a possible explanation: MPLS. Is MPLS the only possible or most likely explanation? Otherwise what does this tell me about our network infrastructure? Bonus question for my edification: in this scenario, who is generating the ICMP TTL exceeded packets and if relevant mangling their source and destination addresses?

I googled a lot and finally i found something called "Virtual Audio Cable", a tool to install virtual audio drivers ( http://software.muzychenko.net/eng/vac.html ). I tried many times but i couldn't get this driver work, so i'm asking if someone know a similar solution, i mean a virtual microphone or a way to make skype working without any microphone. I have a vendor's application that appears to be written in .net and I'm trying to wrap it with a web form (a cgi-bin Perl script) so I can eventually launch this vendor's app from a separate computer. I'm on a Windows Server 2003 R2 SE SP1 system and I'm using Apache 2.2 for the web server and ActivePerl 5.10.0.1004 for the cgi script. My cgi script calls the vendor's app that resides on the same machine using the Perl backtick operator. ... $result = "Result: " . `$vendorsPath/$vendorsExecutable $arg1 $arg2`; ... Right now I'm just running IE web browser locally on the server machine and accessing "http://localhost/cgi-bin/myPerlScript.pl". The vendor's app fails and logs a debug message that includes the following stack trace (I changed a couple names so as to not give away the vendor's identity): ... I actually developed my web script there and got it completely working there before I tried moving it to the Windows Server 2003 machine. So what's different about the Windows Server 2003 machine that would keep the vendor's .net app from being executed successfully by a web cgi script? Can I fix this problem somehow to make it work on my server or will the vendor have to make a change to their .net app and ship out a new version? I'm probably the only person in the world who is trying to execute this vendor's app from a separate program, so I hate to bother the vendor with the issue if there's a workaround that I can implement myself here on my server machine. Plus, I'm in kind of a hurry and I don't want to wait 4 or 6 months for the vendor to put in a fix and deploy a new version. Thanks for any advise you can give.

  • Backup Exec 11D and Thecus N5200 Pro

    I have a Thecus N5200 Pro integrated into my Windows 2003 AD network. My current backup solution involves Backup Exec 11D but this requires a running service for windows boxes or a similar daemon for linux machines. The N5200 runs a custom linux kernel but as of yet I am unable to add it to my backups through Backup Exec. Does anyone know of a method of backing up directly from the N5200 to Backup Exec without moving the data to an intermediary for archiving?

    There used to be a command line tool called QFECheck in Windows Server 2000 that would list them out. Is this the preferred method on windows server 2003/2008? I know they're listed in Add/Remove programs, but it's hard to capture them for an audit this way. Can i do this without having to install an add-on executable?

  • .NET 3.5 SP1 Installer hang at around 80%

    Hi, I was trying to install .NET 3.5 SP1 to one of our production machines with Windows 2003 SP2. However, the installer just hang at around 80% with message "Setup is loading installation components, This may take a minute or two". In fact it's been like that for 30mins already and using 0% CPU. I disabled the anti-virus software and then applied the windows installer 4.5 update but no luck, the installer still hangs. Anyone had this problem before?

    I have: Windows 2003 Server providing DNS. Server is hosting siteA.com I want to then add: Another website, siteB.com So far, I've created siteB.com on the server, but I'm unsure about how to correctly configure DNS for it. The public DNS administrator has mapped siteB.com as an alias of siteA.com. However, I don't know how to configure my local DNS server accordingly. I tried adding a local record for siteB, however it's shown up as siteB.SiteA.com Please help.

  • Incompatibilities between Indy 9 and Windows Server 2003?

    I'm having a problem with a Delphi application on some Windows 2003 servers. It uses a webservice call to connect with another server and transmit data back and forth. As soon as the app gets to the Authenticate method, the app dies. The app has worked for years on previous boxes with Win Server 2003, but it doesn't on freshly built machines. The machines are set up the same way for the most part, but there is clearly some config setting that differs that I'm not able to track down. Also, while the error becomes apparent in the call to Authenticate, packet sniffing proves that nothing ever happens between the app and the server it's trying to contact, which strengthens my thoughts that something is dieing early on in setting up the connection. I can't duplicate the error locally, so I can't step through the app in a debugger either. Any thoughts on why an Indy 9 Delphi web connection might silently fail?

  • Export an Excel spreadsheet to fixed-width text file?

    Excel has the functionality to import fixed-width text files where it presents a dialog that lets you choose where the begins and ends of fields are which it puts into columns. Does it also have functionality where, given an existing spreadsheet, you can export to a fixed-width text file? If so, how do I access this? I have tried using Save As and choosing Text File but it seems to only save as Tab-delimited which doesn't help me. This is Excel 2003 if it matters.
