• Delegation of Solaris Zone Administration

  In Solaris 11 'Zone Delegation' is a built in feature. The Zones system now uses finegrained RBAC authorisations to allow delegation of management of distinct zones, rather than all zones which is what the 'Zone Management' RBAC profile did in Solaris 10.The data for this can be stored with the Zone or you could also create RBAC profiles (that can even be stored in NIS or LDAP) for granting access to specific lists of Zones to administrators.For example lets say we have zones named zoneA through zoneF and we have three admins alice, bob, carl.  We want to grant a subset of the zone management to each of them.We could do that either by adding the admin resource to the appropriate zones via zonecfg(1M) or we could do something like this with RBAC data directly: First lets look at an example of storing the data with the zone. # zonecfg -z zoneA zonecfg:zoneA> add admin zonecfg:zoneA> set user=alice zonecfg:zoneA> set auths=manage zonecfg:zoneA> end zonecfg:zoneA> commit zonecfg:zoneA> exit Now lets look at the alternate method of storing this directly in the RBAC database, but we will show all our admins and zones for this example: # usermod -P +Zone Management -A +solaris.zone.manage/zoneA alice # usermod -A +solaris.zone.login/zoneB alice # usermod -P +Zone Management-A +solaris.zone.manage/zoneB bob # usermod -A +solaris.zone.manage/zoneC bob # usermod -P +Zone Management-A +solaris.zone.manage/zoneC carl # usermod -A +solaris.zone.manage/zoneD carl # usermod -A +solaris.zone.manage/zoneE carl # usermod -A +solaris.zone.manage/zoneF carl In the above alice can only manage zoneA, bob can manage zoneB and zoneC and carl can manage zoneC through zoneF.  The user alice can also login on the console to zoneB but she can't do the operations that require the solaris.zone.manage authorisation on it.Or if you have a large number of zones and/or admins or you just want to provide a layer of abstraction you can collect the authorisation lists into an RBAC profile and grant that to the admins, for example lets great an RBAC profile for the things that alice and carl can do. # profiles -p 'Zone Group 1' profiles:Zone Group 1> set desc="Zone Group 1" profiles:Zone Group 1> add profile="Zone Management" profiles:Zone Group 1> add auths=solaris.zone.manage/zoneA profiles:Zone Group 1> add auths=solaris.zone.login/zoneB profiles:Zone Group 1> commit profiles:Zone Group 1> exit # profiles -p 'Zone Group 3' profiles:Zone Group 1> set desc="Zone Group 3" profiles:Zone Group 1> add profile="Zone Management" profiles:Zone Group 1> add auths=solaris.zone.manage/zoneD profiles:Zone Group 1> add auths=solaris.zone.manage/zoneE profiles:Zone Group 1> add auths=solaris.zone.manage/zoneF profiles:Zone Group 1> commit profiles:Zone Group 1> exit Now instead of granting carl  and aliace the 'Zone Management' profile and the authorisations directly we can just give them the appropriate profile. # usermod -P +'Zone Group 3' carl # usermod -P +'Zone Group 1' alice If we wanted to store the profile data and the profiles granted to the users in LDAP just add '-S ldap' to the profiles and usermod commands. • Database Rebuild

  I promised I’d have a simpler mechanism for rebuilding the database.  Below is a complete MSBuild targets file for rebuilding the database from scratch.  I don’t know if I’ve explained the rational for this.  The reason why you’d WANT to do this is so that each developer has a clean version of the database on their local machine.  This also includes the continuous integration environment.  Basically, you can do whatever you want to the database without fear, and in a minute or two, have a completely rebuilt database structure. DBDeploy (including the KTSC build task for dbdeploy) is used in this script to do change tracking on the database itself.  The MSBuild ExtensionPack is used in this target file.  You can get an MSBuild DBDeploy task here. This will be similar yet will have more advanced content since the group had already had a introduction to MVC in a previous meeting.   I am not able to get values from both files and text input in a servlet when my form includes multipart/form-data. I am using the apache.commons.fileuploads for help with the uploads. • QListWidget drag and drop items disappearing from list

  Hello, I'm having trouble implementing a QListWidget with custom items that can be reordered by dragging and dropping. The problem is when I make a fast double click (a very short drag&drop) on an item, the item sometimes disappears from the QListWidget. This is the constructor for my Widget: ListPopisiDragDrop::ListPopisiDragDrop(QWidget *parent) : QListWidget(parent) { setSelectionMode(QAbstractItemView::SingleSelection); setDragEnabled(true); viewport()->setAcceptDrops(true); setDefaultDropAction(Qt::MoveAction); setDropIndicatorShown(true); setDragDropMode(QAbstractItemView::InternalMove); } also the drop event: void ListPopisiDragDrop::dropEvent(QDropEvent *event){ int startRow=currentIndex().row(); QListWidget::dropEvent(event); int endRow=currentIndex().row(); //more code... } Custom items are made by implementing paint() and sizeHint() functions from QAbstractItemDelegate. When the problem with disappearing items happens, the dropEvent isn't even called. I really don't know what is happening and if I'm doing something wrong. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! Edit: I'm running the application on a Symbian S60 5th edition phone. Edit2: If I add this line to the constructor: setDragDropOverwriteMode(true); the item in the list still disappears, but an empty row stays in it's place.

• ListBox item doesn't get refresh in WPF?

  I have a listbox which has couple of items. When double clicked on each item, the user get option to edit item (text of item). Now once i update the item, my item in listbox doesn't get updated. The first window (one which has listbox) is in MainWindow.xaml file and second window is in EditTaskView.xaml(one which let's edit the items text) file.   I have a 3 models: quote, customer, and item. Each quote has one customer and one item. I would like to create a new quote, a new customer, and a new item in their respective tables when I press the submit button. I have looked at other questions and railscasts and either they don't work for my situation or I don't know how to implement them. • Proxy Settings per Machine not working on windows server 2008 R2 SP1

  i have a very interesting problem and would appreciate any help for it. In my scenario i have scripts which bring up a VM inside a domain. Now i want to enable internet access for all the VM's and they go through a proxy. I interact with the VM's using remote sessions and use the credentials of a user which belogs to the domain administrator group. Now problem is that, i create VM's on the fly and destroy them as well,and the scripts i run during their lifetime require internet access on them.So i cannot statically set the proxy settings thus i used the option of Active Directory Group Policy Management. I initially used the "User Configuration" option and set the proxy, which worked like a charm when ever i log inside the machine. However it doesn't work if i use to remote login to the machine with an account which has not yet logged in to the machine. So i used this link to configure it to work on Per Machine, the group policy has worked fine and it reflects in the browser too. But i am not able to resolve any dns name like http://www.google.com or any internet based site. Any idea what i can do?

  I have been trying to resolve this error, like many others: The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file \domain.local\SysVol\domain.local\Policies{3EF90CE1-6908-44EC-A750-F0BA70548600}\gpt.ini from a domain controller and was not successful. Group Policy settings may not be applied until this event is resolved. This issue may be transient and could be caused by one or more of the following: a) Name Resolution/Network Connectivity to the current domain controller. b) File Replication Service Latency (a file created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller). c) The Distributed File System (DFS) client has been disabled. Error code: 5 = Access Denied. The directory structure is: -sysvol -domain -staging -staging areas -sysvol (shared as "\\server\sysvol") -domain.local -ClientAgent -Policies -scripts Interestingly, the second sysvol folder is the one that is shared as "\server\sysvol". This makes me confident this is the issue with the permissions and error code 5. Also interestingly, my server 2008 R2 servers can see it fine - my server 2008 servers cannot, and get the error. This is consistent across all my servers. This latter fact makes me uncertain what I need to do to fix this up. Do I, e.g., simply move the shared sysvol folder up a level to replace the non-shared one? Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers, Tim.

I'm helping to put up a brand new SharePoint 2007 site, and I contacted IT about managing the site's permissions through AD Groups. The goal is to have the site automatically assign read/write/contribute/whatever permissions based on the information in AD. For example, we could create an AD Group called "Managers" that would contain anyone with the "Manager" title in their AD user profile. I would have SharePoint tap into this AD Group to mass assign permissions if I knew all managers would need a certain level of access (read/write/contribute/whatever). Then if a manager joins the company or leaves it, the group is automatically updated (provided AD gets updated, of course). My IT rep called back and said it couldn't be done. This seems like a pretty straightforward business requirement, and one of the huge benefits of having Active Directory, but maybe I'm mistaken. Could anyone shed some light on this? A) Is it possible to use dynamically-updated AD Groups when assigning permissions via SharePoint? (Does anyone know of a guide I could show my doubtful IT rep?) B) Is there a "best practice" way to go about this? I've read some debate on whether SharePoint Groups or AD Groups are the way to go. My main concern is dynamic updating. C) If this isn't available out of the box, can someone recommend third-party software that will provide the functionality I'm looking for? A big thanks to anyone who can help me out!!

• How do you apply proxy settings per computer instead of per user?

  So far, I've used a user group policy object utilizing Internet Explorer maintenance to set a proxy for the user in IE. We have now deployed the Enterprise Client (EC) starter group policy to our domain and this policy affects this behavior. The EC group policy uses the policy Make proxy settings per-machine (rather than per-user). This policy describes itself as: This policy is intended to ensure that proxy settings apply uniformly to the same computer and do not vary from user to user. Great! This seems to be an improvement over my previous setup. If you enable this policy, users cannot set user-specific proxy settings. They must use the zones created for all users of the computer. What zones and where do I configure the proxy settings for them? I assumed the policy would simply take the user settings and apply them, but that's not what's happening. Now no proxy server is set at all. So my previous settings obviously no longer have any effect. So far, I've only come up with solutions that involved direct manipulation of the Windows registry. Which is fine, I guess, but the way the proxy is configured for users makes it appear as if there could be a higher level approach.

• Provide a user with service start/stop permissions

  I have a very basic domain that I use for development. I want to create a GPO that provides users in the Backup Operators group with start/stop permissions for two specific services on a specific server. I have read several articles about this, and they all indicate that this is very easy. Create a GPO, give the user start/stop permissions to the services under Computer Configuration Policies Windows Settings Security Settings System Services, and voila. Done. Not so much, but I have to be doing something wrong. My install is pretty much the default. The domain controller is in the Domain Controllers OU, the Backup Operators group is under Builtin, and I created a user called Backup under Users. I created a GPO and linked it to the Domain Controllers OU. In the GPO I give the Backup user permission to start/stop two specific services on the server. I forced an update with gpupdate. I used Group Policy Results to verify that my GPO is the winning GPO giving the user the permission to start/stop the two services. However, the user is still unable to start/stop the services. I attempted different loopback settings on the GPO to no avail. I'm sort of at a loss here.

  I've looked everywhere (Google, here, a bunch of other sites), and while I have found people with similar problems, I couldn't find a single one with a solution to this. Last night our xenserver 5.6 box corrupted the /var/xapi/state.db, and I couldn't fix the xml, no matter what I did. After a good hour fiddling with the file, I figured it would be faster to just reinstall. The server had one 2tb hard drive running Xen and its VMs, and since Xen's install said it would erase the hard drive it was installed on, I plugged a new harddrive and installed Xen on it, without selecting any hard drives for storage. I Figured I could make it happen after install, using the partition on the old harddrive with all my VMs on it. • Can't Mount Databases in the Recovery Storage Group in Exchange 2003

  After restoring some mail stores, mounting them in the recovery storage group errors out. So far a repair with eseutil (which the log says was successful) and a server reboot has been tried. A defrag is currently running on the mail store I need to go through this again to post the exact error codes, so I will be updating this question.
