    Prior to .net 4.0, I implemented a solution using named data slots in System.Threading.Thread. Now, in .net 4.0, there is the idea of ThreadLocal. How does ThreadLocal usage compare to named data slots? Does the ThreadLocal value get inherited by children threads? Is the idea that ThreadLocal is a simplified version of using named data slots? An example of some stuff using named data slots follows.   • Getting javascript mouse position relative to website prefferably without jQuery

    I've found this snippet on Ajaxian, but I can't seem to use the cursor.y (or cursor.x) as a variable and when the function is called as such it does not seem to work.   • How do I use a .NET class in VBA? Syntax help!

    ok I have couple of .NET classes that I want to use in VBA. So I must register them through COM and all that. I think I have the COM registration figured out (finally) but now I need help with the syntax of how to create the objects. Here is some pseudo code showing what I am trying to do. EDIT: Changed Attached Objects to return an ArrayList instead of a List The .NET classes look like this... public class ResourceManagment { public ResourceManagment() { // Default Constructor } public static List<RandomObject> AttachedObjects() { ArrayList list = new ArrayList(); return list; } } public class RandomObject { // public RandomObject(int someParam) { } } OK, so this is what I would like to do in VBA (demonstrated in C#) but I don't know how... public class VBAClass { public void main() { ArrayList myList = ResourceManagment.AttachedObjects(); foreach(RandomObject x in myList) { // Do something with RandomObject x like list them in a Combobox } } } One thing to note is that RandomObject does not have a public default constructor. So I can not create an instance of it like Dim x As New RandomObject. MSDN says that you can not instantiate an object that doesn't have a default constructor through COM but you can still use the object type if it is returned by another method... Types must have a public default constructor to be instantiated through COM. Managed, public types are visible to COM. However, without a public default constructor (a constructor without arguments), COM clients cannot create an instance of the type. COM clients can still use the type if the type is instantiated in another way and the instance is returned to the COM client. You may include overloaded constructors that accept varying arguments for these types. However, constructors that accept arguments may only be called from managed (.NET) code.   • Compiling x264 with mp4 support problem

    I'm trying to compile x264 with mp4 output support. I download the latest version from their git by typing git clone git://git.videolan.org/x264.git When I run ./configure it configures and I'm able to make it. But when i try to configure it with ./configure --enable-mp4-output and then try to make it, it returns a strange error, indicating that there is a compilation error. The error message looks like: ...     Let's assume that our system can perform actions, and that an action requires some parameters to do its work. I have defined the following base class for all actions (simplified for your reading pleasure): public abstract class BaseBusinessAction<TActionParameters> : where TActionParameters : IActionParameters { protected BaseBusinessAction(TActionParameters actionParameters) { if (actionParameters == null) throw new ArgumentNullException("actionParameters"); this.Parameters = actionParameters; if (!ParametersAreValid()) throw new ArgumentException("Valid parameters must be supplied", "actionParameters"); } protected TActionParameters Parameters { get; private set; } protected abstract bool ParametersAreValid(); public void CommonMethod() { ... } } Only a concrete implementation of BaseBusinessAction knows how to validate that the parameters passed to it are valid, and therefore the ParametersAreValid is an abstract function. However, I want the base class constructor to enforce that the parameters passed are always valid, so I've added a call to ParametersAreValid to the constructor and I throw an exception when the function returns false. So far so good, right? Well, no. Code analysis is telling me to "not call overridable methods in constructors" which actually makes a lot of sense because when the base class's constructor is called the child class's constructor has not yet been called, and therefore the ParametersAreValid method may not have access to some critical member variable that the child class's constructor would set. So the question is this: How do I improve this design? Do I add a Func<bool, TActionParameters> parameter to the base class constructor? If I did: public class MyAction<MyParameters> { public MyAction(MyParameters actionParameters, bool something) : base(actionParameters, ValidateIt) { this.something = something; } private bool something; public static bool ValidateIt() { return something; } } This would work because ValidateIt is static, but I don't know... Is there a better way? Comments are very welcome.

    Suppose I have a value for which I have a default, which can be overridden if System.getProperty("foo") is set. I have one module for which I have bindConstant().annotatedWith(Names.named("Default foo")).to(defaultValue); I'm wondering what the best way of implementing a module for which I want to bind something annotated with "foo" to System.getProperty("foo"), or, if it does not exist, the "Default foo" binding. I've thought of a simple module like so: public class SimpleIfBlockModule extends AbstractModule { @Override public void configure() { requireBinding(Key.get(String.class, Names.named("Default foo"))); if (System.getProperties().containsKey("foo")) { bindConstant().annotatedWith(Names.named("foo")).to(System.getProperty("foo")); } else { bind(String.class).annotatedWith(Names.named("foo")).to(Key.get(String.class, Names.named("Default foo"))); } } } I've also considered creating a "system property module" like so: public class SystemPropertyModule extends PrivateModule { @Override public void configure() { Names.bindProperties(binder(), System.getProperties()); if (System.getProperties().contains("foo")) { expose(String.class).annotatedWith(Names.named("foo")); } } } And using SystemPropertyModule to create an injector that a third module, which does the binding of "foo". Both of these seem to have their downsides, so I'm wondering if there is anything I should be doing differently. I was hoping for something that's both injector-free and reasonably generalizable to multiple "foo" attributes. Any ideas?

  • Any workarounds for non-static member array initialization?

    In C++, it's not possible to initialize array members in the initialization list, thus member objects should have default constructors and they should be properly initialized in the constructor. Is there any (reasonable) workaround for this apart from not using arrays? [Anything that can be initialized using only the initialization list is in our application far preferable to using the constructor, as that data can be allocated and initialized by the compiler and linker, and every CPU clock cycle counts, even before main. However, it is not always possible to have a default constructor for every class, and besides, reinitializing the data again in the constructor rather defeats the purpose anyway.] E.g. I'd like to have something like this (but this one doesn't work): class OtherClass { private: int data; public: OtherClass(int i) : data(i) {}; // No default constructor! }; class Foo { private: OtherClass inst[3]; // Array size fixed and known ahead of time. public: Foo(...) : inst[0](0), inst[1](1), inst[2](2) {}; }; The only workaround I'm aware of is the non-array one: class Foo { private: OtherClass inst0; OtherClass inst1; OtherClass inst2; OtherClass *inst[3]; public: Foo(...) : inst0(0), inst1(1), inst2(2) { inst[0]=&inst0; inst[1]=&inst1; inst[2]=&inst2; }; }; Edit: It should be stressed that OtherClass has no default constructor, and that it is very desirable to have the linker be able to allocate any memory needed (one or more static instances of Foo will be created), using the heap is essentially verboten. I've updated the examples above to highlight the first point.

  • Unity and Object Creation

    I am using unity as my IoC container. I am trying to implement a type of IProviderRepository. The concrete implementation has a constructor that accepts a type of IRepository. When I remove the constructor parameter from the concrete implementation everything works fine. I am sure the container is wired correctly. When I try to create the concrete object with the constructor I receive the following error: "The current build operation (build key Build Key[EMRGen.Infrastructure.Data.IRepository1[EMRGen.Model.Provider.Provider], null]) failed: The current type, EMRGen.Infrastructure.Data.IRepository1[EMRGen.Model.Provider.Provider], is an interface and cannot be constructed. Are you missing a type mapping? (Strategy type BuildPlanStrategy, index 3)". Is it possible to achieve the above mention functionality with Unity? Namely have Unity infer a concrete type from the Interface and also inject the constructor of the concrete type with the appropriate concrete object based on constructor parameters. Below is sample of my types defined in Unity and a skeleton class listing for what I want to achieve.   • bind9 "error sending response: host unreachable"

    of course), I have a number of DNS servers, all running bind9 (9.5.1, to be specific) under fedora. 4 of them are slaves, fed by a common master for our public DNS. These are all located on the public gateways of our various offices. One of them has tons of messages in its log files similar to these: Jul 21 17:26:18 gateway named[3487]: client 10.171.3.8#52500: view internal: error sending response: host unreachable I wonder where that comes from. The firewall is open on port 53 between the two machines (10.171.3.8 is an internal DNS server located on a Windows Domain Controller). The internal domains do NOT list the gateway as a name server (so there should not be any attempts of replicating the domains), and the gateway does not handle any internal DNS. The clients in these messages vary between the two domain controllers on the internal network and a third internal name server (running bind9 on debian in a different segment of the network). Any pointers are highly welcome. In response to the first reply: The issue with this really is that tcpdump doesn't show any problems. Here is an extract from "tcpdump -i any port 53" 09:13:38.283308 IP valine.aminocom.com.61815 ns-pri.ripe.net.domain: 14075 PTR? 166.225.58.95.in-addr.arpa. (44) 09:13:42.007410 IP gateway-eng.aminocom.com.37047 alanine.aminocom.com.domain: 35410+ PTR? 12.3.172.10.in-addr.arpa. (42) At the same time, the DNS log shows: Jul 22 09:13:38 gateway named[3487]: client 10.171.3.6#61300: view internal: error sending response: host unreachable Jul 22 09:13:40 gateway named[3487]: client 10.172.3.12#56230: view internal: error sending response: host unreachable Jul 22 09:13:40 gateway named[3487]: client 10.171.3.8#55221: view internal: error sending response: host unreachable Jul 22 09:13:49 gateway named[3487]: client 10.171.3.8#51342: view internal: error sending response: host unreachable So clearly at 09:13:40 there were two unsuccessful attempts to connect to internal machines (10.172.3.12 and 10.171.3.8, both are DNS servers), but nothing in the tcpdump output.

  • Can’t connect to SQL Server 2008 - looks like Shared Memory problem

    I am unable to connect to my local instance of SQL Server 2008 Express using SQL Server Management Studio. I believe the problem is related to a change I made to the connection protocols. Before the error occurred, I had Shared Memory enabled and Named Pipes and TCP/IP disabled. I then enabled both Named Pipes and TCP/IP, and this is when I started experiencing the problem. When I try to connect to the server with SSMS (with either my SQL server sysadmin login or with windows authentication), I get the following error message: A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 233) Why is it returning a Named Pipes error? Why would it not just use Shared Memory, as this has a higher priority order in the list of connection protocols? It seems like it is not listening on Shared Memory for some reason? When I set Named Pipes to enabled and try to connect, I get the same error message. My windows account is does not have administrator priviliges on my computer - perhaps this is making a difference in some way (as some of the discussions in this post about an "SuperSocketNetLib\Lpc" registry key seems to suggest). I have tried restarting the SQL Server service, by the way, and also tried to get someone to log onto the machine with an admin account to restart the SQL Server service. Still no luck.

  • Dynamically updating DNS records with NSUPDATE fails

    I've got my own nameserver ns3.epnddns.com and domain epnddns.com I wanted to try and update the records dynamiclly from home using nsupdate but when I run nsupdate -k Kwww.epnddns.com.+157+17183.key i get the following errors Kwww.epnddns.com.+157+17183.key:1: unknown option 'www.epnddns.com.' Kwww.epnddns.com.+157+17183.key:2: unexpected token near end of the file Kwww.epnddns.com.+157+17183.{private,key}: unexpected token Not sure why I get these errors, I'll post my complete setup. Generated keys on my home pc, using dnssec-keygen -a HMAC-MD5 -b 128 -n HOST www.epnddns.com. created /var/named/ and put the keys there and chmod them to 600. transfered the keys to my nameserver ns3.epnddns.com, created /var/named/ ,put the keys there and chmod them to 600 made dnskey.conf in /var/named and added key www.epnddns.com. { algorithm hmac-md5; secret "my secret from they keys=="; }; chmod to 600 then in /etc/bind/named.conf.local include "/var/named/dnskeys.conf"; zone "epnddns.com" { type master; file "/etc/bind/zones/epnddns.com.zone"; allow-transfer { myhomeip; }; //its my home ip so not in the same network allow-update { key www.epnddns.com.; }; }; I restarted bind without any error messages so it seems to be working on the nameserver at least. But on my homepc when i try and run the nsupdate i get those error messages. Thanks in advance for any help or insightful advice.

    Hi all. The error as shown in the 2 pictures below: The configurations for named.conf and the zones files as shown below: After applying "alveso" suggestion below. Now, I think there is no error but I still can't ping my own domain www.p0864868.com (10.0.0.1) nor can I do host or nslookup as shown on previous pictures. PLease assist. Thank you in advance. I also attached my the changes that I made to my named.conf as well as my resolve.conf configs as shown below: progress 2: turned on logging by typping "rndc queylog" The output as below when I pinged p0864868.com progress 3: changed permission of 10-0-0.zone and p086868.zone to 644 named:named Still can't ping www.p0864868.com or execute host command. It says something like network unreachable. I don't understand why it refer to I don't what address is that.

  • lots of dns requests from China, should I worry?

    I have turned on dns query logs, and when running "tail -f /var/log/syslog" I see that I get hundreds of identical requests from a single ip address: Apr 7 12:36:13 server17 named[26294]: client 121.12.173.191#10856: query: mydomain.de IN ANY + Apr 7 12:36:13 server17 named[26294]: client 121.12.173.191#44334: query: mydomain.de IN ANY + Apr 7 12:36:13 server17 named[26294]: client 121.12.173.191#15268: query: mydomain.de IN ANY + Apr 7 12:36:13 server17 named[26294]: client 121.12.173.191#59597: query: mydomain.de IN ANY + The frequency is about 5 - 10 requests per second, going on for about a minute. After that the same effect repeats from a different IP address. I have now logged about 10000 requests from about 25 ip addresses within just a couple of hours, all of them come from China according to "whois [ipaddr]". What is going on here? Is my name server under attack? Can I do something about this?

  • bind9 - forwarders are not working

    I am experiencing an issue with bind. If i want to resolve any domain name that is on the zone file. It works fine. However, when I try to resolve anything that does not belong to the zone file. I know that actual DNS servers that are being forwarded are working fine. But somehow bind9 fails to use them. The content of /etc/bind/named.conf.options is: options { directory "/var/cache/bind"; forwarders { 131.181.127.32; 131.181.59.48; }; dnssec-validation auto; auth-nxdomain no; # conform to RFC1035 listen-on-v6 { any; }; }; I have also tried to use only one ip address and it still did not work. also the content of /etc/bind/named.conf is: include "/etc/bind/named.conf.options"; include "/etc/bind/named.conf.local"; include "/etc/bind/named.conf.default-zones"; So there is no problem with including options file. Any recommendations for fixing this problem?

  • BIND unstable with DLZ+MySQL on Ubuntu 9.10, any ideas?

    My BIND server keeps dropping out and I can't work out why. Here is some info from the syslog that I think pertains to the failure(s): Apr 22 21:12:17 dnsdebug named[6613]: mysql driver unable to return result set for lookup query Apr 22 21:12:17 dnsdebug kernel: [285552.573949] type=1503 audit(1271963537.759:53): operation="open" pid=6618 parent=1 profile="/usr/sbin/named" requested_mask="::rw" denied_mask="::rw" fsuid=107 ouid=0 name="/dev/tty" Apr 22 21:12:17 dnsdebug named[6613]: mysql driver unable to return result set for lookup query Apr 22 21:13:17 dnsdebug named[6613]: last message repeated 7 times Any ideas? Mysql had a segfault sometimes, but that seems to be no longer an issue. It's the 64bit version of ubuntu too. Sometimes it will return records just fine, other times it appears to just randomly go down.
