  • Cannot set "Language for Non-Unicode Programs" in Regional and Language Settings

    I'm trying to set the Language for Non-Unicode Programs from English to Japanese (I'm using Windows XP SP 3), but it won't let me. It looks like I've got the East Asian Language packs installed, but when I select "Japanese" from the drop-down box and hit "Apply" I get an error that says "Setup was unable to install the chosen locale. Please contact your system administrator". I'm already logged in as the administrator, and I've restarted several times but it still won't let me. Can anyone give me an idea as to how to solve this problem? Reinstalling Windows is absolutely out of the question.

    On my laptop (el-cheapo but pretty good) I have all my 3 USB ports occupied by devices in use (external mouse, external keyboard, 3G internet/flash drive/external hard drive/etc). I want a cooling pad for my hard-worked laptop but all seem to be powered by USB... This laptop is mainly stationary. Either is available a solution to power the USB-powered cooling pad other than connecting it to the laptop... ... either is there a non-USB powered laptop cooling pad?

    I have a Perl script inserting data into Postgres according to a pipe delimited text file. Sometimes, a field is null (as expected). However, Perl makes this field into an empty string and the Postgres insert statement fails. DBD::Pg::st execute failed: ERROR: invalid input syntax for integer: "" I just want it to insert a null on field1 instead. Any ideas? EDIT: I simplified the input at the last minute. The old input actually made it work for some reason. So now I changed the input to something that will make the program fail. Also note that field1 is a nullable integer datatype.

Is there anything specific I have to do when I add extra classes in a hook? Any advice/input would be appreciated. Or someone's ear I could lend so I could mail them a little bit so I could pick their brain a bit would be really appreciated since I don't know anyone who programs for liferay.

  • .NET: Allow NULLS in DB fields?

    Hi there, I have the task of re-factoring an SQLServer DB.... A lot of the tables and columns "ALLOW NULLS", Is this good practice... I seem to remember the authour of CSLA.NET saying it was really bad practice to allow nulls in a DB... If this is the case, what are my alternatives? Remove all "ALLOW NULLS" from all columns.... and in numeric columns use a value of -1 for example?? I would really appreciate any input anyone has. I am currently using a Model (from entity framework) from my DB and the db columns that "ALLOW NULLS" are null ... and some of the stored procedures require that i have a default value... i.e. BOOLEAN require FALSE as default ... but it is null.. Well i don't want to stray from my original question, ALLOW NULLS are a bad thing from what i can gather .... so how do i fix this ? Any help really appreciated

  • Run Windows batch file on schedule as non-Administrator user

    I'm running Windows XP x64 SP2. I have a Windows batch file that with some Robocopy commands that I want to run on schedule. I created a scheduled task for it, running as a dedicated user (not the user I'm logged on as), but it simply did not run. I could see successful logon events in the security log, so it got that far, but the commands in the batch file definitely weren't getting executed. After reading through all of http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winservermanager/thread/d47d116e-10b9-44f0-9a30-7406c86c2fbe/ I tried making the target user account an Administrator and that fixed it - the batch file ran just fine. Nothing else seemed to work. The thing is, I want it to run under a low-privileged account. Does anyone know how can I get a batch file to run on schedule as a non-Administrator?

  • EC2-like virtualisation platform with non-RDP access

    I'm looking into setting up a few small VMs. The trouble is the software I intend to install on them (Cisco VPN Client) blocks out networking (other than to the target VPN destination...) with no workaround. This means that Remote Desktop or other methods of connecting to VMs that go via the Internet (e.g. GoToMyPC, LogMeIn) are a non-starter. What I'm really looking for is an EC2-like platform but which gives direct access to the VM through (for example) Hyper-V Manager. Sadly the only way they all seem to offer to remote control the VMs is direct access via Remote Desktop, whereas I need to be one layer above that (if that makes sense). A viable alternative would be to run virtualisation software within a Windows EC2 instance; obviously hardware virtualisation is impossible but I wonder if there are any software virtualisation platforms that could be run and that would work. Does anyone know if something like this exists/is possible? Thanks! C

  • Have both domain and non-domain users use NetApp CIFS storage

    My specific use case is that I have a NetApp CIFS storage that's in the domain, say, intranet. But I also have one hyper-v host that's not in the domain. I can't allow it into the domain, but I need to create guests whose VHD is on the storage. How can I achieve this? When I simply connect to a CIFS share and create a VHD there, it works, but when I try to add that VHD to the virtual machine, I get a "Failed to set folder permissions" error - probably due to folder ownership being in the domain admin. Is there a way around this? So both domain and non-domain users use the same directory?

By "non-displayed elements", I mean the background elements (Managers, DataSources, Validators, etc) that show up as grey boxes containing the type and id. If I have several of those at the top of the page, I can't see much of the preview of my page.

    I have been trying to set a 301 redirect from a non www to a www domain since yesterday but it only cause problems on my site. I first tried it from the control panel of the website, then by modifying the .htaccess file with the following: Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteEngine on rewritecond %{http_host} ^mydomain.com [nc] rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.mydomain.com/$1 [r=301,nc] My site is based on wordpress, the first problem that occurred was that I could not access my backend anymore… when I was trying to log in the page would just reload itself and then there was an endless loop and the whole site was unaccessible. After removing these few lines, everything was fine.

    I have a virtual machine on Hyper-V manager (Windows 2008 R2) without a network configured on the VM. From a powershell script running on the host Windows server, I would like to query into the OS of that local VM for certain information (i.e. if a given process has finished completion). I am using codeplex's pshyperv module (https://pshyperv.codeplex.com/) to interact with Hyper-V manager, but the only cmdlet to connect to the vm is 'New-VMConnectSession', which launches a 'vmconnect.exe' connection to the VM. Since vmconnect.exe is essentially RDP, this is not very script-friendly. From within a host's powershell script, is there any way to send a command to a local virtual machine's OS and receive output, if no network is configured on the VM? (I believe Vmware's 'vmrun' utility has this capability) Another way to ask this question: Does Hyper-V have a non-GUI-based form of vmconnect.exe? (PS. Not sure if this was more stackoverflow or serverfault)

    Given a text file with space separated string and a tab separated integer, I'd ;like to get rid of all words that have non-alpha characters but keep words consisting of alpha only characters and the tab plus the integer afterwards. My attempts like the ones below didin't yield any good. What I was trying to express is something like: "replace anything within word boundaries that starts and ends with 0 or more whatever and there is at least one :digits: or :punct: in between". sed 's/\b.[:digits::punct:]+.\b//g' sed 's/\b.[^:alpha:]+.\b//g' What am I missing?   • Write Null/Nothing value with Databinding

    I have extended a MaskedTextBox component to add some functionality. The text property of the extended MaskedTextBox is bound to a DateTime? property and the format of binding is set to a time format of "HH:mm:ss" (i.e. 24hr time). So that this masked text box will capture the display a time. The extra functionality I have added is to make the component readonly unless the component is double clicked or the enter button is pressed (the back color of the control helps to inform the users if the component is locked/readonly or not). When the enter button is pressed I also suspend the bindings so that bound data is updated the users input won't be lost. The information is then written back to the value and databindings resumed when the user presses the enter key again. This all works fine up to here, with values written and displayed as would be expected. However, I also want to write the null or nothing value to the DateTime? property if the user hasn't entered any text (or invalid text but let's just stick with no text) when enter key is pressed to submit the new value. Unlike with other valid entries in the MaskedTextBox, with no text entered when i execute: Me.DataBindings("Text").WriteValue() (when 'locking' the MaskedTextBox) it then branches to the bound properties Get method as I step into each line of code in the debugger (as opposed to the Set method with other valid entries) How can I write this null/nothing/"" value to the DateTime? property when no text "" is entered into the MaskedTextBox?     I'm trying to localize a Windows 8 Metro style app as described in a guide on MSDN. This worked very well so far, but now I'm trying to localize a string containing a non-breaking space which appears in a XAML file (originally as hexadecimal xml-escaped string: &#x00a0). Just putting the above string into the Resources.resw file does not work, it appears just as &#x00a0. What do I have to do to get a non-breaking space in my localizations?
