  • JSP + View bean complete example

    - by jihedamine
I found this interesting tutorial that explains the concept of view bean with some code snippets http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/ibm/library/i-extreme5/, but I'd like to view a complete (simple) web application in a real world scenario using plain JSP and view beans (not using struts, spring or jsf framework). Thanks for pointing me to such a resource.

  • Inspiration and influence of the else clause of loop statements in Python?

    - by Aristide
Python offers an optional else clause in loop statements, which is executed if and only if the loop is not terminated by a break. For an interesting discussion about this neglected commodity, see this question. Here, I just wanted to know: if the very concept of this loop-else construct originates from another language (either theoretical or actually implemented), conversely, if it was taken up in any newer language. May be I should ask the former to Guido, but he surely is a too busy guy for such a futile inquiry. ;-)

  • What should students be taught first when first learning sorting algorithms?

    - by Johan
If you were a programming teacher and you had to choose one sorting algorithm to teach your students which one would it be? I am asking for only one because I just want to introduce the concept of sorting. Should it be the bubble sort or the selection sort? I have noticed that these two are taught most often. Is there another type of sort that will explain sorting in an easier to understand way?

  • Is 1-to-n multicast on the open internet reliable?

    - by Jeremy Dunck
I'm a newbie at networking. I understand the concept of multicast, but was wondering if it's reliable on the open/public internet? It seems like sort of an edge case that different backbones or ISPs might intentionally break to reduce router load or generally segment the network for practical high-use applications. Is my fear reasonable? P.S. Follow-up question here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/256125/best-tutorial-for-application-multicasting

  • Persistance Queue Implementation

    - by Winter
I was reading an article on Batch Processing in java over at JDJ http://java.sys-con.com/node/415321 . The article mentioned using a persistence queue as a Batch Updater instead of immediately sending an individual insert or update to the database. The author doesn't give a concrete example of this concept so I googled Persistence Queue but that didn't come up with much. Does anyone know of a good example of this?

  • How to design the application to conform to the n-tier architecture? (Winform sample in .net with li

    - by AlexRednic
Rather a simple question. But the implications are vast. Over the last few weeks I've been reading a lot of material about n-tier architecture and it's implementation in the .NET world. The problem is I couldn't find a relevant sample for Winforms with Linq (linq is the way to go for BLL right?). How did you guys manage to grasp the n-tier concept? Books, articles, relevant samples etc.

  • Swiz Framework and Spring Framework - Are they related?

    - by theband
I was looking into Swiz framework and i felt the same of Spring. Just i felt the difference between these two is one is JAVA based and the other is Action Script based. http://swizframework.org/ http://www.springsource.org/ My Question is: Does the goal of the both framework is same? Does the pattern they apply is same or different? The concept of beans, dependency injection and IOC lies in both.

  • Best practice to maintain source code under version control with multiple companies?

    - by lastcosmonaut
Hey, I'm wondering if there is any best practice for maintaining your source code under version control among different companies. In Open Source there is a maintainer, who receives patches, decides on them and applies them. But what about closed sourced projects where different companies get different workloads and just commit them to the trunk and branches? Is this maintainer concept applicable to a project on which multiple companies work on?
