  • Nagios SSH remote checks and WMI Check

    I have install Nagios Core and I am using WMI Checks for Windows and Created a script to execute remote commands through ssh on my Linux machines. When Installing Nagios there is an option to run NsClient++, but I went with the WMI Checks because it is agent less. What are the advantages of using NsClient++ for Nagios? Also would calling too many commands through WMI or SSH hinder the performance of the remote host?

  • Trouble editing ~/.bash_profile: -bash: $'\r': command not found

    I installed CygWin on Windows 7. Using Notepad, I edited my ~/.bash_profile file to add on to the PATH variable … PATH="${PATH}:/cygdrive/c/apache-ant-1.8.2/bin" Now, when I SSH in to my Windows machine, I get this error … -bash: $'\r': command not found -bash: $'\r': command not found -bash: $'\r': command not found -bash: $'\r': command not found -bash: $'\r': command not found -bash: /home/dev/.bash_profile: line 39: syntax error: unexpected end of file and my PATH is not set. Anyone know how I can correct this?

  • Paint.NET equivalent for Linux?

    On Windows, my favorite image editor is Paint.NET. However, on Linux, GIMP is as unfriendly as photoshop despite having less features. (i.e. It takes ages to load, their's far too much stuff). Most of my image editing is simple things where Photoshop or GIMP would be overkill. Paint.NET does not run on Wine or Mono. So is there any similar fast and simple but powerful image editor available for Linux? EDIT: There is a Mono version available, but I don't want to have to deal with installing svn versions of mono, and compiling the version myself.

  • Read/Select:Connection reset by peer (10054) during remote logoff in RealVNC

    I am using RealVNC 4.5 Enterprise on my Windows 7 client. I use this to connect to a remote system which is also running RealVNC 4.5 (on Windows 7 again). And then i logoff the remote system (server) and all of a sudden the realvnc viewer on the client closes with the message : "Read/Select:Connection reset by peer (10054)" It also asks if i want to reconnect again. Any idea why this is happening and how do i resolve this?

  • Video/Animated GIF advanced frame editor?

    What sort of application could I use for example if I had a 5 minute video or an animated GIF with 50 frames, and I wanted to basically Photoshop replace an object, say a person's head, with another image for all those 50 frames? Is there some sort of smart tool that can do this or do I have to edit every single frame by hand? I wouldn't mind there being a tool where I can paste the image in every frame automatically, and switch from frame to frame adjusting the position of it, I just need something efficient. I've tried using Photoshop's import video into image sequence and tried editing with the animation toolbar at the bottom, but it's not quite what I want. I don't care if it's free software or not, I'm primarily using Linux but I have VirtualBox Windows XP if there's an excellent application that's not available otherwise.

  • How to automatically define functions and aliases on remote server after ssh login

    I want to define bash functions and aliases in my remote shell automatically on login. I can't put the definitions into .profile or similar because the users I log in as are often shared with others who use the same systems and I don't have control of this. What I'm trying to do is execute a few bash function definitions in the remote process and then continue as a login shell. I tried this but it did not work: cat ~/.profile - | ssh -tt user@host bash -l Any ideas?

    Sharepoint sends out an automated email when a site collection has reached its quota warning level. The email says: You are receiving this e-mail message because you are an administrator of the following SharePoint Web site, which has exceeded the warning level for storage: https://mysite.xxx.ac.uk/personal/xxx/. To see how much storage is being taken up by this site, go to the View site collection usage summary: https://mysite.xxx.ac.uk/personal/xxx/_layouts/Usage.aspx. The problem is that the usage summary link needs to point somewhere else instead. How can I edit the body of the email to change the link? Thanks.

  • Search and replace global modifier

    Is there any reason why non-global/first-occurrence substitution is the default in many text editing programs (vim, sed, perl, etc.)? I am talking about the /g flag of search and replace commands like: :s/pan/focaccia/g # in vim sed 's/sfortuna/fortuna/g' # with sed that will substitute every occurrence of the search pattern with the replacement string. After (not too) many years of vim and sed usage I still did not find any use case for non-global substitutions. Is there some valid historical reason? Or it is because it is? Thanks.

  • SQL Server Management Studio Connect to Server List Editing

    I'm using SQLServer Management Studio (2005) and I have a fairly lengthy list of servers in there, and I'd like to get rid of some of them that are no longer in use, without having to set them all up again. I know that the C:\Users\*\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Shell\mru.dat can be deleted and this will remove ALL the entries, but is there anyway to just delete some of them? (Coding info) I looked at the file and it is a serialised blob from the Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.ConnectionDlg.dll (Class Personalization) in the Appplication directory, but all the methods are private. So I can't just create an instance of this and then call Remove on the entries.     Very recently I have started to write python scripts that need to connect few databases on mySQL server. The problem is that when I work from office my script works fine but running a script from my home while on office VPN generates connection error. I also noticed the mySQL client Squirrel also cannot connect from my home but works fine on Office computer. I think both are giving problem for the same reason. Do I need to create a ssh tunnel and forward the port? If yes how do I do it? mySQL is installed on server I have ssh access. Please help me on this AK

  • Are Remote commit hooks in subversion possible?

    Hi there, my current setup is as follows: We have a Linux samba share that contains all the repository folders (with the hooks folder inside, amongst the others) All the developers have the share mapped as a network drive, and import to a local directory (normally C:\Server\RepositoryName) where they work on their files. All the machines accessing the drive (unfortunately) run windows. What I'm aiming to do is to have a hook on the Linux server that detects when a commit has been made, by which project, the revision number, the name of the developer who committed, etc. I looked into the hooks files, but they seem to be ran by the client. Is there a way to monitor svn changes and collect the relevant information from the Linux server?

  • Editing the Microsoft Security Essentials context-menu

    As all MSE users would know, the context-menu item that it adds to Explorer is really long, with one whole sentence "Scan with Microsoft Security Essentials...". Is there a way to edit this and shorten it? I figured out the the file shellext.dll is responsible for registering the context menu. I used ResEdit to edit the DLL and changed the string table entry from Scan with ($BrandName) to Scan with MSE. But it still won't change. I've also tried de-registering the DLL and then registering it again. No luck! Any ideas? Or am I doing something wrong?

    Obviously, the easiest way to solve a bug is to be able to reproduce it in house. However, sometimes that is not practical. For starters, users are often not very good at providing you with useful information. Costumer Service: "what seems to be the issue?" User: "It crashed!" To further compound that, sometimes the bug only occurs under certain environmentally conditions that can not be adequately replicated in house. With that in mind, it is important to build some sort of diagnostic framework into your product. What type of solutions have you seen or used in your experience? Logging seems to be the predominate method, which makes sense. We have a fairly sophisticated logging frame work in place with different levels of verbosity and the ability to filter on specific modules (actually we can filter down to the granularity of a single file). Error logs are placed strategically to manufacture a pretty good representation of a stack trace when an error occurs. We don't have the luxury of 10 million terabytes of disk space since I work on embedded platforms, so we have two ways of getting them off the system: a serial port and a syslog server. However, an issue we run into sometimes is actually getting the user to turn the logs on. Our current framework often requires some user interaction.

This feature works in other projects, but this time is failing when trying to save the file to the remote server. This is LAN Network there are 30 Machine's Connected to the network and working fine, I'm Playing around the local machine's cos i need to apply the same rules in Production VPS I have applied the below iptables in my machine 192.168.1.99, Now i can't receive any packets from Outside and i can't send any packets Outside, While applying the Below Chain iptables -P INPUT DROP iptables -P OUTPUT DROP iptables -P FORWARD DROP After the above CHAIN i have added the Below rules and it want to allow ssh from machine to 192.168.1.15 to access the 192.164.1.15 but still i can't access 192.168.1.15 iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -i eth0 --dport 22 -m state --state NEW,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp -o eth0 --sport 22 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -o eth0 -p tcp --dport 22 -m state --state NEW,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -i eth0 -p tcp --sport 22 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT Any one Please Check Weather my Rules are Wrigt.     Is it possible to remotely (via ssh) make a login to GDM? I'll explain a situation in which I'd need this: I'm on my laptop and connect to my desktop via ssh. I realize there are some updates available. I install them all, but I need to reboot the computer. The problem is that once the desktop has rebooted, there will be no GDM session available, since it's necessary to log in. Can I somehow perform the GDM login remotely from my laptop? Edit: I can't find FreeNX for Maverick, and I haven't been able to configure x11vnc + vncviewer to work. Isn't there an easy way?
