• Access violation when accessing a COM object from .Net

  Dear Sirs, I am sorry if the post is too long, but I would be happy if someone would at least point read the bolded titles, and point me in the right direction. I am having this problem for couple of days, but was unable to found the answer on the net. These are the things I have found out so far. 1. "Access violation" exception crushes my managed application My C# WinForms app sometimes closes with an "Access violation" exception ("Attempted to read or write protected memory"), right in the moment when selecting a TabPage in a windows form TabControl. From the stack trace (try/catch around Application.Run) I can see that the exception happens at System.Windows.Forms.UnsafeNativeMethods.DispatchMessageW(MSG& msg), called inside UnsafeNativeMethods.IMsoComponentManager.FPushMessageLoop(Int32 dwComponentID, Int32 reason, Int32 pvLoopData). -- Message: Attempted to read or write protected memory. Bug is not easy to reproduce (although it can be provoked usually in less than 5 min.) I have several Chart instances in several TabPages, and this usually happens while I am switching the tabs. I still don't know how to reproduce it, besides switching those tabs for several minutes before it happens, so I cannot use our source control to reliably find the build which didn't have this problem. I am accessing the charts through the managed AxChart wrapper class (derived from AxHost), which was created by VS designer automatically. 4. What should be my next step? If someone could point me to the next step I should do to find the actual cause, I would be very grateful. Experimenting (removing and returning code) does not do much good, because I don't know how to reproduce it, so it would take large amounts of time on each iteration just to convince myself that the bug is still there. I have found that people often suggest something like "switching compiler optimizations", but since the exception is not thrown deterministically, I don't want to simply rearrange some bytes and hope that it never returns. • How to replace a div container with javascript

  Hi, I must have a little design in javascript. I have a menu with 5 entrys and only 1 HTML-page. So I will have a content-div and enabled and disabled different static content in it, each menu-entry is another content. I tried with 5 divs and disable 4 of them and enable 1, but the element under each other means every div is like a - enabled or not, so the "content" is moving then. Hope its understandable. • When to Store Temporary Values in Hidden Field vs. Session vs. Database?

  I am trying to build a simple OpenID login panel similar to how Stack Overflow's works. The goal is: User clicks OpenID/Oauth provider OpenID/Oauth stuff happens, we end up with the result (already made that) Then we want to confirm that the user wants to actually create a new account (vs. associating account with another OpenID account). Not that I really care what these specific hashes are, but what it seems like is happening is they have processed the openid response and saved it to the DB in a temporary object or something, and from there they generate these keys, because they don't look like Oauth keys to me. Main situation is: after I have processed OpenID/Oauth responses, I don't yet want to create a new user/account until the user submits the "confirm" form. Should I store the keys and tokens temporarily in a "Confirm" form like this? Or is there a better way? It seems that using a temp database object would be a lot of work to manage properly. • Prevent Text Input expanding in IE

  Hi, I am having a problem with an input field in IE. The code is for a portlet and widths need to be dynamic as the user can place the portlet on any of the three columns in the page which all have different widths. As always it works fine in FF but not in IE. In order to make the width dyanaic I have set width="100%". Data to populate the text input comes from a DB. When the page is rendered if there is a long URL the text input expands to fill the contents in IE but in FF it just stays the same width (ie 100% of the TD that it lives in). How can I stop IE from changing the width in order to fit the contents. Setting the width to a fixed width of 100px fixes the issue but I need to have the width as a percentage in order to accommodate the layout of the portlet wherever it is put in on the page. I have tried overflow:hidden and word-wrap:break-word but I cant get either to work. • css absolute positioning hidden scrollbars ... with a twist

  I'm working on a website that targets 1024 X 768 as the minimum resolution. So, we're at about 970px wide. Design came back with an interesting layout that has a centered site with a banner that actually exceeds this width (1288px to be exact) that will look good for users with greater resolution, but look fine at 1024. So, to prevent scrollbars from showing up for those at 1024 I positioned the banner absolutely and used overflow-x: hidden on the body. This works just fine across our target browsers. Now, the client has come back and asked for scrollbars to be present for users on 800 X 600 (yes, this is not the target) so they can see a critical login button. How can this be accommodated for those 2% of their users without making radical changes? All I can think of is to detect their screen width and remove the overflow-x:hidden. You have to love when requirements change late in the build process! • Show menu when view is long pressed

  I've been looking around on the internet regarding my question but I couldn't find a straight answer. Is it possible to create a non-blocking menu similar to the overflow menu found in Android 4.0+ when a view is long pressed? I have a number of LinearLayout instances which have an OnLongClickListener which brings up a context menu, but it's not exactly what I am looking for. I was hoping for a smoother menu which is brought up when one of these instances is clicked, and removed when the user clicks outside of the menu's region. This is very similar to the way the overflow menu behaves in the Android ActionBar. So to sum up, is it possible to replicate the look-and-fell and the behavior of the overflow menu when using context menus? Here's hoping I don't have to jump through hoops to get the implementation that I desire. Thanks in advance. EDIT: After some digging I've found the PopupMenu which is exactly what I was looking for however it works only on devices running Honeycomb and above. Does anyone know of a way with which I can replicate this menu behavior in older versions of Android without using blocking windows like dialogs?

  We have 2 identical database tables on our dev server. In both is a table that holds an X509Certificate2 data in one of its fields. When I grab the cert along with the password that I've been using all along, it works over the first database just fine. I run the same code though over the 2nd database and get this error and I don't get why if the setup is exactly the same and the database is also on this server. • Create a UPnP Control Point in Silverlight

  I'm interested in creating a UPnP control point in Silverlight. To me that implies that I'll need to use COM interop with Microsoft's upnp.dll (and the SL application will have to be out of browser and platform specific). Is there any source code available in C# that shows how to create a control point with Microsoft's stack? If there are other options available I'd like to hear about it, from reading around the web it appears the MS stack is buggy.

• Any way to disable horizontal scroll for FlowLayoutPanel in AutoScroll mode?

  I need a System.Windows.Forms.FlowLayoutPanel that only auto scrolls vertically. WrapContents is false, and I want it to work like a vertical stack panel. I can't find a way to disable the horizontal scroll. I've googled it, can't find a usable solution so far. The alternative is to abandon the FlowLayoutPanel, and try another control. What acts somewhat like a WPF stack panel but that expands and shrinks vertically with the contained controls?

• How do I solve an AntiForgeryToken exception that occurs after an iisreset in my ASP.Net MVC app?

  I’m having problems with the AntiForgeryToken in ASP.Net MVC. If I do an iisreset on my web server and a user continues with their session they get bounced to a login page. Not terrible but then the AntiForgery token blows up and the only way to get going again is to blow away the cookie on the browser. With the beta version of version 1 it used to go wrong when reading the cookie back in for me so I used to scrub it before asking for a validation token but that was fixed when it was released. For now I think I’ll roll back to my code that fixed the beta problem but I can’t help but think I’m missing something. Is there a simpler solution, heck should I just drop their helper and create a new one from scratch? I get the feeling that a lot of the problem is the fact that it’s tied so deeply into the old ASP.Net pipeline and is trying to kludge it into doing something it wasn’t really designed to do. I had a look in the source code for the ASP.Net MVC 2 RC and it doesn't look like the code has changed much so while I haven't tried it, I don't think there are any answers there. Here is the relevant part of the stack trace of the exception. Edit: I just realised I didn't mention that this is just trying to insert the token on the GET request. This isn't the validation that occurs when you do a POST kicking off.   What I mean is, let's say you do an async_wait on an asio timer and bind the update to a function that takes a reference to a type T. Let's say you created the T initially on the stack before passing it to async_wait. At the end of that async_wait, it calls async_wait itself, renewing the timer over and over. Does that stack allocated type T stay alive until the first time the timer doesn't renew itself, or after the first invocation of the function will the T go out of scope?
