  • Rotate monitor to portrait on Windows Server 2003 with ATI card

    Does anyone know if it is possible to rotate a monitor from landscape to portrait mode on Windows Server 2003 32-bit with an ATI video card? According to Dell's site, I should be able to rotate my Dell P2310H monitor by installing drivers from their website, but they don't have drivers for Windows Server 2003. I let Windows Update search for the driver (with the driver CD that came with the monitor in my drive) and it did install drivers, but I still don't see any options for rotating. Some people say that the ATI Catalyst Control Center allows for monitor rotation, but I've never been able to run that software on Windows Server 2003. A google search reports that others have the same problem. Has anyone successfully figured out how to rotate a monitor on Windows Server 2003 with an ATI card?

  • Problem with XLSX file on Office 2003 with Compatibility Pack

    I've this machine which has Office 2003 installed with Compatibility Pack. User received one file which she has to work with in XLSX format (file has to stay in that format so options to save it as XLS can be skipped). When she opens the file from Desktop or any other location it gives an error like "Cannot find the file in following location" and in the background it starts Converting XLSX file to XLS. In the end Excel is opened up with some random file name X000008.xls (Read Only) which is just 1 to 1 conversion of the XLSX document. However if I go directly to Excel and use File / Open and try to open the XLSX file no error or conversion is done. The file is writable and can be saved in XLSX format. The file name is simple like This_file something.XLSX, I've even tried to remove all spaces but it gave no better results. Anyone has any recommendations? So far I have done: 1. Uninstalled Compatibility Pack and installed it again. Tried opening it without any other updates and the error still pops out. In progress: I am now running all possible updates of office (like 5 of them) which i suppos won't fix anything (as they were applied when I've uninstalled compatibility pack). Next in run will be (not yet done) installing Windows XP SP3. What other things I can do?

    I am using Dell Studio 1558 laptop. Originally it was having windows 7 64 bit Home edition but than i upgraded my system to Windows 7 32 bit Professinal edition. The problem i am facing due to this is that my system is not detecting bluetooth adapter. When i install 64 bit(windows 7)/32(windows vista) bit drivers for Bluetooth it detects the Adapter but only sometimes and much of the times it doesnt. I am not able to find drivers for Windows 7 32bit professional edition and thus not able to detect bluetooth adapter.

    We had a user with a Lenovo G-series laptop getting a STOP error on boot. We reinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium using non-OEM media and restored the user's files from backup. We are now seeing a hidden folder in the root of the C:\ drive called SYSPART which appears to contain a copy of the contents of the C:\ drive - so while the user has 160 GB of files, the drive is using 320 GB because of this folder. What is it, and is it safe to delete?

    Hi, I’ve run into a bit of a situation with Windows environment variables. I’ve narrowed it down to what may or may not makes sense and/or possibly be by design. It seems that expandable-string environment variables of the local machine cannot reference environment variables of the current user. For example if you’ve got the following environment variables: [HKCU\Environment] "CU"="CU" "CU->LM"="%LM%" [HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment] "LM"="LM" "LM->CU"="%CU%" Then you get the following results: > set CU CU=CU CU->LM=LM > set LM LM=LM LM->CU=%CU% It seems that user variables can expand system variable references, but system variables cannot expand (access?) user variable references. I suppose that it makes sense if you think about it just right (eg like how user vars override/hide system vars of the same name), but it also doesn’t make sense if you think about it in even more ways. So what’s going on? Is there a way to get this to work as expected? Thanks.

    Hello, I have a machine which connects via ethernet to a private LAN, and wireless to a network which provides internet connectivity. The private LAN uses a wireless router to perform DHCP. The problem is that the wireless and NIC adapters have different default gateways. The default gateway for the private LAN has a lower adapter metric, and is thus chosen by the routing algorithm. I am thus unable to browse the internet when connected to both adapters. The following link has a solution for manually setting the adapter metric to a high number. http://superuser.com/questions/77822/how-to-tell-windows-7-to-ignore-a-default-gateway I was hoping to find a different solution. Does any one know of a router that allows you to configure its DHCP server to return an empty default gateway? I cannot find such an option for my linksys wrt300n. Configuring a static ip address with no default gateway does work, however I would like to use DHCP if possible. Does anyone know of a different way to specify a default gateway for a windows 7 machine with multiple network adapters without mucking with the adapter metric? Thanks, Matthew

    I can't seem to find a flash image for my mainboard. There is not even a product page for it (any more, although there used to be a manual at http://download.asrock.com/manual/qig/H67M-GETHW.pdf, as google revealed). So no driver updates from the manufacturer for my mainboard either. I offered the flash images for both of the similarly named H67M-GE and H67M-GE/HT to asrock's "Instant Flash" utility, but it complained it "could not find an image" on my usb drive. The asrock page states that "Instant Flash" searches for a flash image that exactly matches the mainboard, i.e. it must have determined that the H67M-GE/THW I have is different from H67M-GE and H67M-GE/HT. Any idea?

The console is giving me the message : 16/04/2010 12:14:20 com.apple.coreservicesd[51] sh: launchctl: command not found This indicates to me that it can't find the launchctl executable launchctl is present in the folder /bin /bin is set in the PATH variable for sh and bash shells and also in the ~/.MacOS/environment.plist How can I fix this so that my preferences can find this so that I can enable the FTP service.

Installed by following the setup. Configured for multi-user, client configuration. Server is at a specified LAN address running on Windows. Then once installation is done. Clicked on the executable/ran from command line for tally.exe Please guide.

  • Can't boot up computer windows 8 installation

    I wanted to install Windows 8 with a volume partition and when the Windows 8 was installing it rebooted and it gave me an error: The digital signature for this file couldn't be verified. File :windows \system 32\winload.exe error code 0xc0000428. I have tried bootec commands and they didn't seem to fix it. Also my Windows 7 got deleted and I only have to boot with the Windows 8 error, so I can't do anything not even boot to safe mode. I have tried to install Windows 8 from disk later on and it won't let me because it keeps rebooting and starting the installation again, so I took off the disk before it rebooted and it takes me to that error again. Remember that's my only boot option so I'm stuck in the installation disk.

  • Annotate pdfs in Firefox on mac-os

    I have several pdfs stored locally. I have file:/// links to these pdfs in my local TiddlyWiki. When I open one of these, Firefox opens it inline, as expected. Now I want to add annotations to these pdfs as I read them. Since I have not found a way to do this when viewing them inline, I used the open in Preview feature in the context menu. This works fine, but when I want to save, Preview complains that the document is locked. It appears Firefox creates a temporary copy that it gives to preview to open, instead of the real thing. Is there any way to work around this? I want to either be able to save the annotated files from preview or to do the annotations directly in Firefox. I am using Snow-Leopard with Firefox 3.6. Edit I can annotate the pdf just fine when I open them in preview directly.

  • Why is iTunes starting and stopping play randomly, and how do I stop it?

    Since yesterday morning my copy of iTunes has been starting and stopping randomly. If iTunes is not running, then it opens and sometimes begins playing, other times sits idle. Eventually, after a random interval it will begin playing a song, and then stop, and so on... Needless to say, it's driving me mad. (Mac OSX, 10.6.3, on a new-ish (< 1 year old) 24" iMac) I've made five changes to my system that may or may not be connected to this: My office phone was replaced with a Linksys IP Phone, which necessitated a change to my networking; where previously my Mac was connected directly to the office network port, now it is connected through the phone. My network connection now uses auto link detection in lieu of forcing 100Mbit I unpaired my bluetooth headset. I removed the USB audio device associated with another headset. I upgraded to Safari 5. I don't use it as a primary browser, but it's often open to run web apps that I'm developing. All of these things happened in pretty close proximity to each other, so one or more of them may be the culprit. One other thing that may or may not be related; for some reason my built-in microphone is no longer picking up audio. It seems like this might be connected to the iTunes issue, because it happened around the same time. In terms of things that I've tried in order to solve this, I'm at a bit of a loss. I followed the instructions at http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/technotes/tn2004/tn2124.html#SECLAUNCHDLOGGING to enable detailed launchd logging to see if I could track down which process was asking iTunes to open (when it's not already open) but I wasn't able to make heads or tails of the output. I'm not even sure if I'm looking in the right place, to be honest; it actually acts like something is activating the application with AppleScript, but I have no processes running that are doing that, as far as I know. I'm running a few apps that have iTunes integration: Adium, iChat with Chax, Quicksilver. None of these have been changed lately, so I consider them low risks of causing this, but it's not impossible. Moreover, I'm not using any of those features intentionally.     I am in the market for a new monitor. I've been looking around and it seems that the general brightness for monitors is between 250-320 cd/m2. After hours of searching, I narrowed it down to the LG W2453V-PF vs. the LG E2350V-SN The W2453V-PF is not LED backlit yet it has a brightness level of 310 cd/m2 and a response time of 2ms. The E2350V-SN, on the other hand, has a brightness level of 250 cd/m2 and a response time of 5ms but it is LED backlit. My questions are, looking at these overall specs: Which monitor is better? What makes LED backlight better? Is the LED backlight worth the decreased brightness level?     I need to run vista recovery but its boot loader is destoryed. The only way to run reovery seems to be burning a temporary DVD from base.wim and boot.wim taken from vista recovery partition. How can I do this without having any vista installation or DVD? I can dowload anything but ony from legitimate sources (e.g. not torrents etc). Thank you in advance.

  • What is asloader.exe and why does it want to run elevated?

    I have Vista 64-bit ultimate on my home computer, with accounts for each family member. Most are administrators but I have one kid with a plain user account. When she logs in she gets a prompt that asloader wants to run but needs administrator. I gather that this has something to do with either the ASUS mobo (P6T Deluxe V2) or the ATI graphics card (Sapphire 4890 OC). Can anyone explain what asloader does, and suggest how I might configure something to suppress the prompt my kid gets? Thanks.

    Just a few days ago, Adobe Reader XI and Acrobat X stopped opening. When I try to open a pdf or either one of these programs the cursor would show a busy icon for a few seconds and stop. Each time I open it a process will show up in task manager, but no window will open. I have tried these things, but none will work Restarting the computer Running as Administrator Repairing the installation Reinstalling Following this guide: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/acrobat-failed-launch-30-days.html When I ran acrofix it returned exit code 3 Also I have seen this, but I am not running tune up: Adobe Reader XI will not launch I am running windows 7 ultimate x64.
