  • Windows 7 Index Search does not work in Google Drive folder

    I recently installed Google Drive on my Windows 7 laptop and began syncing all my files a few days ago. All was well until I needed to search for some documents in my local copy of Google Drive using Windows 7 Search feature. Windows did not return any results at all. Weirdly, when I turned off Windows indexing for that folder, it began returning results. I don't mind using windows search w/o the index but sometimes it takes too long to search (especially for keywords inside documents like Word and Excel). It's driving me nuts to the point where I have given up on Windows Search and switched to Google Drive's online search to look for files (not as convenient as I still have to go back go google drive in Windows to locate the folder). Any help appreciated!

    I recently re-installed non-English Windows XP Home SP2 to two computers. Why the computers don't start downloading software updates ? I have valid licenses and the copies have been activated successfully. Over the years I have made several XP installations from the same media and there has been no issues earlier (i.e. the software updates have started a quite soon). I do have the automatic software updates turned on (as I have always).

    I have bought an acer aspire one which has the intel atom processor running linux and am having difficulty getting a 3G USB modem (huwaei e220) working with it. I have spent a significant amount of time trying to get this working but as the modem is not supported on Linux I have now decided to give in and install xp. Is there a specific version of xp that I need for this processor? or can I install the standard x86 version

I'm looking for something akin to the boot log you would get in Linux (with what is running at what times, how long it is running, etc). I am specifically interested in the what is happening after I get out of initial boot phase (AKA, the Windows XP logo goes away and I move to the generic blue background, and as I log in as a user onto the machine).

    About to rebuild my XP install and figured I'd see if there was a file or interface for collecting the configs for the built in Windows XP wireless manager. I've looked under the "advance settings" tab and within the properties GUI for each connection and I'm not seeing a way to export the configs. Clearly if I'm exporting these I'd like to be able to import or override the default config with the backup.

  • Updating windows xp hard drive controller from ubuntu live disk

    The problem: When booting, I get a blue screen shortly after the Windows XP logo splash screen. The error code is 7b, and the second hex number is 0xC0000034. Based on this link (item 7) it appears the driver should be updated. Oddly, I made no changes to the drivers recently. I suspect it was something in a windows update or the newest upgrade of my antivirus (eset). But I digress. The BSOD makes me unable to boot into Windows at all, so I can't update the driver from there. I've run various bios-level diagnostics (including full surface scan) and the hd looks good. I'm also able to boot to an old ubuntu disk and read files from the hd. The question: Based on the above, it appears that I need to update the Windows hard drive controller from the ubuntu live disk. How do I do that?

  • Windows 8 not booting from DVD while trying to install in a Ubuntu 14.04 system

    Currently my system runs on Ubuntu 14.04. Yesterday, I deleted and formatted the partition(C drive) as NTFS in which Windows 7 was installed because Windows 7 was not booting for more than a week. I have a Windows 8 disk and it was able to boot from that disk when there was Windows 7 on my system. After the formatting of C drive yesterday, I tried to install Windows 8 by booting from the disk. Unfortunately, this time no booting happened from the disk. So I pressed F2 during the system start up and checked Boot Device Priority, Optical Drive has the first priority there. So why Windows 8 didn't boot from the disk ? I need to install Windows 8 too in my system without doing any damage to Ubuntu 14.04. How can I do it ?

    Hi everyone, Are there any way known to trick an computer with XP to appear to have more RAM? I need to install a specific program (which fits in my system requirements), which is bundled with a number of other programs on an DVD. Unfortunately, the other programs besides the one that I need demand twice the amount of RAM that's available on my computer and the installation is closed due to this.     I just bought a new SSD (Vertex4 from OCZ, 256G) and installed Windows 8 with it on my laptop. I am not using an external hard drive to keep extra data (paging, temp files etc) because I am using a laptop and do not want to carry it around with me. My question is, if I disable Windows indexer (Windows Search service), does Windows still search files under the search (Windows 7 Start menu search/Metro UI Windows 8 search)? Since the indexer was meant to search for files by indexing them, does this mean that Windows will not search new files? Thanks in advance.

    Hello everyone, May I know how I can get rid of the Window Animation (seen when you minimise or maximise a window) in Windows XP Service Pack 3 Permanently?? I have tried the following two solutions: I went to the control panel---adjust visual effects--- then unchecked the "Animate windows when maximising and minimising" option. 2.I have tried using windows powertoys tweakUI to disable the animation. 3.I even tried this: Turn Off Window Animation You can shut off the animation displayed when you minimize and maximize Windows. 1. Open RegEdit 2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control panel \Desktop\ WindowMetrics 3. Create a new string value "MinAnimate". 4. Set the value data of 0 for Off or 1 for On But still no help The Big Problem is that the window animation will disappear for a while but returns again some time later. When I navigate back to the "adjust visual effects" window, the checkbox for "Animate windows when maximising and minimising" is checked again. Thank you very much

The computers don't have an internet connection (only a small intranet) and have never been updated since first install. Do I need to install SP1a first, then SP2, then SP3, or can I install SP3 immediately? And where do I find the right files, that don't require an internet connection during installation?     At work there are about 40 DELL PC's - half of them are Windows Vista and other half are Windows 7. Some of the DELL PC's are 220s and 230s model. If I want to re-install Windows then I can use a Recovery/Recovery disk on any Dell PC's (220s or 230s). It take too long to complete the setup, for example - after re installing the Windows then I need to install the drivers, update windows, install IE9, create default users account and so on. It take about 3 hour to complete setup! I am looking for a solution Where I can create an Image of windows (with driver and completed setup) and then I use same Image it on any PC's at work? If one of the PC need reinstalling - I would like to reinstall via network (LAN) by grabbing the Image? Is there something that before booting into windows - computer check something via network which can download the Image?

  • Will Windows 7 setup overwrite Windows 8 and Ubuntu boot records?

    I have Windows 8 and Ubuntu installed, both an the same physical hd (2 partitions). Windows 8 was installed after a format, Ubuntu afterwards. I used EasyBCD to setup the boot records and the boot menu order. I want to install Windows 7 as a third operating system and just add its boot record with EasyBCD. Will there be any unwanted behavior when I install it on a third partition? I already have 100 GB of unallocated space on the disk, though have not yet made the partition. I red on this site that I should install the oldest OS first, but than I would have to do a format and start again from scratch (which I clearly do not want to do). edit: On this site, the opposite is claimed, saying it's also possible to install Windows 7 after Windows 8. However, it will restore a Windows 7 boot menu instead one of Windows 8.

I tried installing Google Chrome on it, and the error I get is: Google Update installation failed with error 0x80040890 It is genuine Windows with SP3. I also tried using VMware player, but it has the same problem. When the same Windows is installed on a real machine, there is no problem. Any ideas what might be the cause?

    I just converted a physical Windows XP x64 machine with 4 CPUs to a VMWare virtual machine with 4CPUs (on a ESX server) using the VMWare Standalone Converter. Everything worked just great, except that the OS now seems to use only 2 CPUs (when 4 are installed, see the following image). This must be a Windows XP issue rather than a VMWare issue, but I can not really rule out any reason at this stage. What can I do?

    I have a PC which was working fine but one day screen went dark and nothing was shown. I thought the problem is graphic card, so I replaced it with new one. I bought a new graphic card (GeForce 610) and installed it on my system. I formatted my hard-drive and installed a fresh Windows XpSp3 and its drivers. Everything was fine but after installing graphic card's driver, I got an error saying windows got stuck in an infinite loop and it couldn't get out (in nv4_disp). I uninstalled it and downloaded its last version and installed it. Unfortunately, I got the same error and windows restated! Here's my system: Pascal Motherboard PT880PRO Intel CPU Windows XPSp3 I searched this issue on the internet and I found bunch of suggestions (from cleaning hardware to installing latest version of its driver) but nothing help!   • Getting the keyboard working on a MacBook under Windows XP x64

    Despite Windows XP Professional x64's unsupported status on MacBooks (model A1181), I've managed to get most of the hardware working by manually installing either the drivers on the OS X Snow Leopard CD, or finding the appropriate drivers online. However, even after installing the Apple keyboard driver from the CD, I can't get Windows to actually use the special driver. Instead, the keyboard just shows up as a generic USB keyboard, with non-functioning Fn and other special keys. Being unable to generate a right-click or Ctrl-Alt-Del makes Windows a bit of a challenge to use. I've tried: uninstalling and reinstalling the keyboard driver removing the keyboard under device manager and letting Windows re-detect it using device manager to manually update the driver How do I get the special functions of the MacBook keyboard working under XP x64?

    Is there any software that can be installed in Windows XP to set file permissions for guest accounts? So that they would have to input a valid administrator password first before they can access the file? I've seen a feature like this in Ubuntu, wherein even the administrator has to input the password over and over just to access a certain drive. But I need it in Windows XP.
