    I have a file that is tab delimited. I would like a powershell script that counts the number of tabs in each line. I came up with this: ${C:\tabfile.txt} |% {$_} | Select-String \t | Measure-Object | fl count it yields 3, Which is the number of lines in the file. any pointers to what I'm doing wrong? I would like it to print a single number for each line in the file.

    I have a PC on remote connected by network, but it occasionally crashes or is restarted by remote users. After the restart, some services and applications have to be in running status. So I would like to find out the reboot as soon as possible. I think PS may be a good choice with some scripts so that I could make remote call to get the last reboot timestamp information. Is there any way to get a remote Windows XP last reboot timestamp by using PowerShell 2.0?

    Hi there, I'm looking to calculate the total size of all shared folders (except admin shares) on a number of different servers (consolidating all accessed files to a NAS box for easier backup / restore) but am having a bit of trouble finding a solution. I'm certain this could be done in powershell but I just can't find the right information to get me going, I can currently spit out a list of all shares on the servers but am not sure where to go from here: $servers =@( "server1", "server2") foreach($server in $servers) { get-WmiObject Win32_Share -computerName $server -filter "Type = 0" }

Am running into a SharePoint.dll not found issue and upon looking it up(including previous posts in StackOverflow), it seems its available in the server.   • Which process is using my NAS?

    I have a nas connected to my cluster. The NAS holds all our home directories. When I did a set of experiments last week, saving a 1 GB file to the nas took around 30 seconds. If i do the same to a local disk it takes 18 seconds. But when I tried doing the same process today, it takes 150 seconds. I am unsure what is the problem . Can someone help me pointout the issue? Is it possible to find out which process is accessing the NAS or how much NAS bandwidth is getting used ? Thanks for your help. -Sethu

  • Errors when attempting to update source files, Server 2012R2 (errors 80073701 and 14081)

    I have a Windows Server 2012R2 machine that I installed with Server Core, and then decided that I wanted to switch to GUI. I'll make the long story short: I ran windows updates, and now the source files are older/out of sync with the operating system, and I need to update the source files. I get errors like: "An error occurred - Package_for_KB29671203 Error: 0x80073701, Error: 14081, The referenced assembly could not be found." or "add-windowspackage failed. error code = 0x80073701, add-windowspackage: the referenced assembly could not be found" I've extensively searched for help on those error codes related to Server 2012 and windows updates, but my google-fu is failing me. I am using windows update packages found in c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download How can I get these updates to bring my source files up to current? Thanks!

  • What is the data transfer speeds within the disk, to other devices?

    I use Debian 6 on a HP Elitbook 6930 with 2Gigs of RAM. I was copying two AVI files, 1.5 GB in total, and noticed that the data copying was done at the rate of 4MB/sec. When I copy same AVIs to my Western Digital Passport 25G USB plugin drive the data transfer speed is 11+MB/sec. This speed is different if I plugin the drive to different USB ports. Interestingly, at work I also downloaded a 16MB IE8 exe on my virtual xp, run inside Oracle Sun Virtual Box, and it was downloaded AND saved within a second. We have a high speed network at work. :-) Why and how this difference in data speeds is possible?

I have little script that run when user login to the computer and writes the file with computer name. I have 39 computers and only on 23 computers the script was run. Since I want to automate everything, I'm looking to by-pass the domain controllers Welcome page using a registry hack script. I work for a large company and the Active Directory people are unwilling to change group policy. I figure if it's a registry key I can script the change, install the software, replace the key and reboot as the final step. Is there a registry key change that will by-pass the Domain Join Welcome page?

  • needing storage integrity (write/read) test - for BASH

    In need of shell scripts / bash commands to verify data integrity of local harddrives, usb-drives, etc, ... Like the famous www.heise.de/download/h2testw; or something that is at least common within repositories. (h2testw writes a specific datastring over and over onto the medium, then reads it again to verify if it was written correctly and displays write/read time/speed.) please no dd if=/dev/random of=/dev/sdx bs=1k && dd if=/dev/sdx of=/dev/null bs=1k since it won't verify if everything was written correctly. It is only a test if read/write is successful to the device. So far, I'm not too happy with badblocks -w -v /dev/sdx1 either, since it seems rather slow and I don't know what it exactly writes, and if it considers wear-leveling on flash media. There is also a program named F3 http://oss.digirati.com.br/f3/ that needs to be compiled. Designed after h2testw, the concept sounds interesting, i'd just rather have it as a ready to go bash script.

    is it possible that 1024 and 2048 block size read speed is faster than 4096 and 8192 block? I'm using lsi 9361-8i with RAID 10 , with 8 x Kingston E50 250G. result: 1024 = Write: 2,251 MB/s Read: 2,625 MB/s 2048 = Write: 2,141 MB/s Read: 3,672 MB/s 4096 = Write: 2,147 MB/s Read: 231 MB/s 8192 = Write: 2,147 MB/s Read: 442 MB/s is there any possible? and below is the reading when i simply want to test out the RAID 10 function and disaster test by taking out one of the 250G harddisk. the result is different like below: Result: 1024 = Write: 825 MB/s Read: 1,139 MB/s 2048 = Write: 797 MB/s Read: 1,312 MB/s 4096 = Write: 911 MB/s Read: 1,342 MB/s 8192 = Write: 786 MB/s Read: 1,204 MB/s and the result for 4096 and 8192block are different? can any one explain to me is it normal? or I need to do some tuning/configuration? will it affect my host linux performance?

    I want to be able to check the CCM Updates Schedule as seen in Configuration Manager Updates tab. I've been looking around on google and I've not been able to find a consistent answer to this. I tried to create a COM object using UDA.CCMUpdatesDeployment. This allows me to successfully set the recurring schedule with SetUserDefinedSchedule method. If I try to use GetUserDefinedSchedule I only get the original values of the variables.   • Poor Write Performance in VM inside Proxmox PVE 2.0

    I am running a PVE 2.0 on a decent Hardware (2 SATA HDDs as RAID1, 12GB RAM, i7 CPU) but the I/O Performance is very poor inside the VM (Ubuntu 11.10 Server).   • Very slow write performance on Debian 6.0 (AMD64) with DMCRYPT/LVM/RAID1

    I'm seeing very strange performance characteristics on one of my servers. This server is running a simple two-disk software-RAID1 setup with LVM spanning /dev/md0. One of the logical volumes /dev/vg0/secure is encrypted using dmcrypt with LUKS and mounted with the sync and noatimes flag. Writing to that volume is incredibly slow at 1.8 MB/s and the CPU usage stays near 0%. There are 8 crpyto/1-8 processes running (it's a Intel Quadcore CPU). I hope that someone on serverfault has seen this before :-(. uname -a 2.6.32-5-xen-amd64 #1 SMP Tue Mar 8 00:01:30 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux Interestingly, when I read from the device I get good performance numbers: reading without encryption: $ dd if=/dev/vg0/secure of=/dev/null bs=64k count=100000 100000+0 records in 100000+0 records out 6553600000 bytes (6.6 GB) copied, 68.8951 s, 95.1 MB/s reading with encryption: $ dd if=/dev/mapper/secure of=/dev/null bs=64k count=100000 100000+0 records in 100000+0 records out 6553600000 bytes (6.6 GB) copied, 69.7116 s, 94.0 MB/s However, when I try to write to the device: $ dd if=/dev/zero of=./test bs=64k 8809+0 records in 8809+0 records out 577306624 bytes (577 MB) copied, 321.861 s, 1.8 MB/s Also, when I read I see CPU usage, when I write, the CPU stays at almost 0% usage.   • Mapped networkdrive on logout

    I'm using a script to keep a mapped networkconnection alive, but ofcourse the mapped connection is gone when I logout. The point is now, that I'm running this on Windows Server 2008 R2, where I use remote desktop to login on the administrator account. However, it should remain logged in and not remove the mapped connection as this script takes care of not logging out on MS office 365 sharepoint. Is there a way to keep the mapped networklocation (L:) available after logout?   • Unable to write DVD-R(Blank DVD's)

    I have a problem in dvd drive i.e. It can read CD/DVD and can write CD and all CD/DVD-RW but cannot write DVD DVD drive model is SH-S203B Samsung; I also have a log file created by nero burning rom 11. Actually the fact is no Blank DVD's are being read in my dvd drive only previously written dvd's can be read! Is this the problem of OS or should I try cleaning the dvd drive or my DVD drive is 4yrs old so is it going to spoil now, since it is showing this type of symptoms!   • Export-Mailbox - "an unknown error has occurred"

    I am trying to move messages from a rather large mailbox to an archive mailbox. However I run into errors all the time. the command I am executing is Export-Mailbox -Identity MAILBOX_FROM -TargetMailbox ARCHIVE -TargetFolder ARCHIVE_FOLDER -StartDate 2009-02-01 -EndDate 2009-02-28 -DeleteContent -Confirm:$false I can copy/move some messages, but run into frequent "an unknown error has occurred" (statuscode -1056749164) I run the console as administrative user, and all permissions are set right, as far as I can tell. I've restricted the start and end dates in case the number of messages moved/deleted should create problems. Anything I am missing in my setup? Corrupted messages? Over-limit message sizes?
