  I need to display a banner that sticks to the bottom of the browser. So I used these codes: $(document).ready(function(){ $('#footie').css('display','block'); $('#footie').hide().slideDown('slow'); $('#footie_close').click(function(){ $('#footie_close').hide(); $('#footie').slideUp('slow'); }); }); And here's the HTML: <div id="footie"> {banner here} <a id="footie_close">Close</a> </div> I added the close link there to let user have the option to close the banner. How ever, when user navigates to next page, the banner shows up again. What can I do to set the banner to remained hidden just for this visit? In other words, as long as the browser remained open, the banner will not show up again. But if user returns to the same website another time, the banner should load again. • Set bounds for markers generated by jQuery table loop?

  I have some jQuery code that goes through a table of location results and puts corresponding pins on a map. I am having trouble figuring out how to set the bounds so that when it goes through the loop and generates the markers on the map that it zooms and pans to fit the markers in the view. I've tried implementing code from some similar questions on this site but nothing seems to be working. • What's the best practice for handling system-specific information under version control?

  I'm new to version control, so I apologize if there is a well-known solution to this. For this problem in particular, I'm using git, but I'm curious about how to deal with this for all version control systems. I'm developing a web application on a development server. I have defined the absolute path name to the web application (not the document root) in two places. On the production server, this path is different. I'm confused about how to deal with this. I could either: Reconfigure the development server to share the same path as the production Edit the two occurrences each time production is updated. I don't like #1 because I'd rather keep the application flexible for any future changes. I don't like #2 because if I start developing on a second development server with a third path, I would have to change this for every commit and update. What is the best way to handle this? I thought of: Using custom keywords and variable expansion (such as setting the property $PATH$ in the version control properties and having it expanded in all the files). Git doesn't support this because it would be a huge performance hit. Using post-update and pre-commit hooks. Possibly the likely solution for git, but every time I looked at the status, it would report the two files as being changed. Not really clean. Pulling the path from a config file outside of version control. Then I would have to have the config file in the same location on all servers. Might as well just have the same path to begin with. Is there an easy way to deal with this? Am I over thinking it?

• Is the Subversion 'stack' a realistic alternative to Team Foundation Server?

  I'm evaluating Microsoft Team Foundation Server for my customer, who currently uses Visual SourceSafe and nothing else. They have explicitly expressed a desire to implement a more rigid and process-driven environment as their application is in production and they have future releases to consider. The particular areas I'm trying to cover are: Configuration management (e.g., source control) Change management (workflow and doco for change requests, tasks) Release management (builds and deployments) Incident and problem management (issues and bugs) Document management (similar to source control, but available via web) Code analysis constraints on check-ins A testing framework Reporting Visual Studio 2008 integration TFS does all of these things quite well, but it's expensive and complex to maintain, and the inexpensive Workgroup edition doesn't scale. We don't get TFS as part of our MSDN subscription. Those problems can be overcome, but before I tell my customer to go the TFS route, which in itself isn't a terrible thing, I wanted to evaluate the alternatives. I know Subversion is often suggested for its configuration management/source control, but what about the other areas? Would a combination of Subversion/NUnit/Wiki/CruiseControl/NAnt/something else satisfy all of these requirements? What tools do I need to include in my evaluation? Or should I just bite the bullet and go with TFS since we're already invested in the Microsoft stack?

  I am using Modal Popup in my MVC3 application it works fine but opens twice for a single Click on the link. The Modal pop is triggered from the 'Index' view of my Home Controller. I am calling a view 'PopUp.cshtml' in my modal popup. The related ActionMethod 'PopUp' for the respective view is in my 'Home' controller. • Clarification/explanation of RegisterClientScriptInclude method

  I've been looking on the Internet for a fairly clear explanation of the different methods of registering javascript in an asp.net application. I think I have a basic understating of the difference between registerStartupScript and registerClientScriptBlock (the main difference being where in the form the script is inserted). I'm not sure I understand what the RegisterClientScriptInclude method does or when it is used. From what I can gather, it is used to register an external .js file. Does this then make any and all javascript functions in that file available to the aspx page it was registered on? For example, if it was registered in the onLoad event of a master page, would all pages using that master page be able to use the javascript functions in the .js file? What problems would arise when trying to use document.getElementById in this case, if any? Also, when it is necessary/advantageous to use multiple .js files and register them separately? I appreciate any help you can give. If you know of any really good resources I can use to get a thorough understanding of this concept, I'd appreciate it!

• UpdatePanel doesn't Refresh

  I have got a simple page with a HtmlInputHidden field. I use Javascript to update that value and, when posting back the page, I want to read the value of that HtmlInputHidden field. The Value property of that HtmlInputHidden field is on postback the default value (the value it had when the page was created, not the value reflected through the Javascript). I also tried to Register the HtmlInputHidden field with ScriptManager.RegisterHiddenField(Page, "MyHtmlImputHiddenField", "initialvalue") but it still only lets me read the 'initialvalue' even though I (through javascript) can inspect that the value has changed. I tried to hardcoded the rowid and, to my surprise, after postback gridview was exactly the same before the delete but the record was deleted from the database.   I'm relatively new to JS so this may be a common problem, but I noticed something strange when dealing with for loops and the onclick function.   hello everyone, i'm not sure where my errors are lying but here is my scenario... i have an un-ordered list in html that handles my main link bar... <ul id="navlist"> <li><a href="/" id="current">home</a></li> <li><a href="#" id="search">search</a></li> <li><a href="#" id="users">login</a></li> </ul> and what i want done is to call each id and have jQuery handle each and dislpay it where specified in my css file... for now, lets just ignore my "home" link... here is a snippet of my inline jquery $(document).ready(function() { $("a").click(function () { $("div#login").slideToggle("fast"); }); }) Now, whichever div i specify, it calls that ... however it will only call one div, using either from the un-orderd list, as mentioned above in the html. My Goal is to call a search bar when search is clicked, and to call a login box when login is clicked. to my knowledge (noob), i believe use an as a class, however that is what brings me here. i believe my error is in my jquery and not my css, as stated above, either instance will be displayed when the jquery function calls either tag. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance shan2on

• Spreadsheet_Excel_Writer large data output is damaged

  I use Spreadsheet_Excel_Writer to generate .xls file and it works fine until I have to deal with a large amount of data. On certain stage it just writes some nonsense chars and quits filling certain columns. However some columns are field up to the end (generally numeric data) I'm not quite sure how the xls document is formed: row by row, or col by col... Also it is obviously not an error in a string, because when i cut out some data, the error appears a little bit further.   the situation: a user on the page in question selects a category from a dropdown which then dynamically populates all the users of that category in a second dropdown beside it. all the data is being retrieved using LinqtoSQL and i was wondering if this can be done a) using html.dropdownlist in a strongly typed view? b) using jquery to trigger the ajax request on selected index change instead of a 'populate' button trigger? sorry i dont have code as what i was trying really wasnt working at all. • Client-side user custom CSS single file for overriding multiple domains

  This is for using in Safari, though it could probably be used on Firefox as well. In Chrome you have to add a plugin anyway (which generally allow for custom CSS per domain), and Opera already allows this to be done without needing any CSS. But while it's for customizing on the client-side, it's also a pure CSS question. So I'm using no plugins here. So, again, I got a custom CSS code (easily) working for all domains. Now I want to get specify CSS code for each domain. All with just 1 CSS file that's being loaded by Safari. Over the web and googling, I've found two ways to supposedly do this, but none actually worked. They're both documented on userstyles.com: @-moz-document domain("your-domain.com") { }. This would be perfect, since I can have several tags like that and just choose which style will be loaded for which domain. It just doesn't work. @namespace is quite confusing and I've tried every variation I could think of. None worked.

• XSLT: change node inner text.

  I need to transform the following xml doc: <a> <b/> <c/> myText </a> into this: <a> <b/> <c/> differentText </a> So, i wrote this XSLT document <xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="1.0"> <xsl:output method="xml" version="1.0" omit-xml-declaration="no" /> <xsl:template match="/a/text()"> <a> <b/> <c/> differentText </a> </xsl:template> </xsl:stylesheet> This way, i get the following result: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <a> <b /><c /> differentText </a> <a> <b /><c /> differentText </a> <a> <b /><c /> differentText </a> The result appears repeated 3 times because 3 matches are being done.. Why? I could i fix it? Thanks

• jQuery & IE crashing on $('#someDiv').hide();

  Well after a while of scratching my head and going "huh?" trying to figure out why IE would straight up crash when loading one of my pages loaded with jQuery goodness, I narrowed down the culprit to this line $('div#questions').hide(); And when I say IE crashes, I mean it fully crashes, attempting to do its webpage recovery nonsense that fails. I am running jQuery 1.4.2 and using IE 8 (haven't tested with any other versions) my current workaround is this: if ($.browser.msie) { window.location = "http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/download.html"; } For some reason I feel my IE users won't be very pleased with this solution though. The div in question has a lot of content in it and other divs that get hidden and displayed again, and all of that works just fine and dandy, it is only when the giant parent div is hidden that IE flips out and stabs itself. Has anyone encountered this or have any possible ideas of what is going wrong? EDIT: Everything is wrapped up in the $(document).ready(function() { }); And my code is all internal so I can't link it unfortunately.
