  How should client-side datastores & persistence be handled in a single-page web application? Global vars vs. DI/IoC: Should datastores be assigned to global variables so any part of the application can access them? Or should they be dependency injected where required? Server persistence: Assuming a datastore's data needn't always be persisted to the server immediately, should the datastore itself handle persistence? If not, then what class should handle persistence and how should the persistence class fit into the client-side architecture overall? Is the datastore considered the model in MVC, or is it something else since it just stores raw data?

• Where to put WPF specific code when using MVVM

  I'm just getting up to speed on MVVM, but all the examples I've seen so far are binding View controls to simple non-WPF specific data types such as strings and ints. However in our app I want to be able to set a button's border brush based on a number in the Model. At the moment, I translate the number into a brush in the ViewModel to keep the View XAML only, but is that right? I don't like putting WPF specific code in the ViewModel, but equally I don't like the idea of putting code-behind on my View panel. Which is the best way? Thanks

  Let us say I have a table (everything is very much simplified): create table OriginalData ( bla char(10) not null ) And I would like to insert its data (set based!) into two tables which model inheritance create table Statements ( Id int IDENTITY NOT NULL, ProposalDateTime DATETIME null ) create table Items ( StatementFk INT not null, ItemName NVARCHAR(255) null, primary key (StatementFk) ) Statements is the parent table and Items is the child table. I have no problem doing this with one row which involves the use of IDENT_CURRENT but I have no idea how to do this set based (i.e. enter several rows into both tables). Thanks.   I want to take input from a textfield and turn it into an array of strings. After having submitted the "post", I want to display again the textfield, but with the array showed below. • Best Ruby ORM for Wrapping around Legacy MSSQL Database?

  Hi. I found this answer and it sounds like almost exactly what I'm doing. I have heard mixed answers about whether or not datamapper can support mssql through dataobjects. Basically, we have an app that uses a consistently structured database, consistently named tables, etc in MSSQL. We're making all kinds of tools and stuff that have to interact with it, some of them remotely and so I decided that we need to create some common, simple access point to do read/write operations on the MSSQL app since it's API is all C# and other things I despise. Now my question is if anyone has any examples or projects they know of where a ruby ORM can essentially create models for another application's legacy database by defining the conventions of each model's pkeys, fkeys, table names, etc. Sequel is the only ORM I've used with MSSQL but never to do anything quite like this. Any suggestions?

• Magento - Mage::getModel not working on remote server

  I'm struggling with an issue for which I can't find an explanation. I have two development environments that I use for my projects. I created a simple module for Magento and I tested it on one environment. After overcoming all Magento's complications, the module works as expected. This is on XAMPP. I then copied the module to the development Linux environment, on a hosted server, and it crashes miserably. I did some debugging, and I found out that a call to Mage::getModel() returns bool(false) instead of the instance of the Model I requested. I double checked all files and directories, and they match. Database is not involved (not from my side, at least, I don't need tables) and both environments have only me as a User, with Admin permissions. Any suggestion on where should I start looking is welcome, thanks.

• Two Different Types of Associatons on the Same Two Tables in Rails

  I have two models, users and themes, that I'm currently joining in a HABTM association in a themes_users table. Basically, after a user creates a new theme, it becomes available to other users to select for their own use. However, only the original creator of the theme should have the ability to edit it. So, I need to have some other kind of association to handle that relationship, something like an created_by_id field in the theme. In this way, the user model acts as two different roles: they can be an implementer of a theme AND/OR the owner of the theme. The implementer relationship is handled by the themes_users join table; the question is: What is the right way to handle this secondary association? Do I need to make users polymorphic and then make the created_by_id reference an "owner"? Or is there something easier? Thanks so much for your help!

• What jquery based table plugin can hide sub rows?

  I'm in the need to convert excel macros into jquery code, the function is that you need to click on the plus sign to unfold and show the sub rows to modify column2 if you want to type values in column2, the other columns can't be modified. You can't straightly modify values of column2 until you unfold the parent row, because there are many sub rows belonging to parent row,say Car. The values of Name, Model, Code are existing, they are master data, no need to type or modify. please see the snapshot at folded and unfolded, besides modifying values in sub rows , I need to be able to know which sub rows are modified and values of those rows.Initially the editable columns are blank. And when you click on the minus sign, the sub rows can be folded again,but the modified values won't be lost,they are still there when unfolded again. One last requirement is it's cross devices, the code must run well on pc,mobile phone,pad. Is that possible? Many thanks.

  DatabaseError at /admin/delmarva/event/ no such column: delmarva_event.eventdate I created a class in my models.py file: from django.db import models from django.contrib.auth.models import User class Event(models.Model): eventname = models.CharField(max_length = 100) eventdate = models.DateField() eventtime = models.TimeField() address = models.CharField(max_length = 200) user = models.ForeignKey(User) def __unicode__(self): return self.eventname and now when i try to view my events in my admin or my main_page it gives me the error that there is no eventdate. I tried syncing the db again but nothing changed. Also, I hashtagged eventdate out to see if I get a different error and then it states that delmarva_event.eventtime does not exist as well. I It is weird because it does not have a problem with eventname. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

• Calling functions outside paths

  In mongojs, when you do: var birds = db.birds.find(searchTerm, callback); ...how do you pass arguments to the callback? I've tried bind, as in: birds = db.birds.find(searchTerm, app.get('getBirds').bind(res)); ...but to no avail. Just fyi I'm trying to pass the response object of the GET route so that the callback can render using res.send(results). The other option is to set app.set('res': res); and call app.get('res') from the callback - I'm not sure this is a good idea. It works, but it doesn't obey the events loop model too well - I think the request back to the app may be costly? Any help would be gratefully accepted. :)

  I would like to set a default value in a has_many through association. Lets say I have three models: People Friends Dogs A person can request that a dog becomes their friend. So a person would create an association where friends has an active column = false. User has_many :friends has_many :dogs, :through => :friends Now when I assign a dog to a user User.find(1).dogs << dog The friends table has null in the active column. My friends model is defined as Friend def initialize(args = {}) super(args) active = false end yet this does not work because the friend object is never created. Do I have to manually create one?

• Good overview tool / board for visualizing Subversion branch acitivity?

  Our team is sometimes finding it a bit confusing and time-consuming to figure out which subversion operations have been perrformed on our different branches in Subversion. Example, when has the Development branch last been merged into the Trunk? When was this particular Tag created, based on what branch etc etc. All of this information can of course be extracted from the Subversion Log, but thats always a manual, time-consuming and error-prone process. Simplest solution seems to be a simple whiteboard with a visualization of all the different branches/tags/trunk in Subversion and people drawing on it, whenever something significant happens. But we're not averse to finding some kind of a digital solution as well, stored centrally. Obviously both systems depend on people actually maintaining the model, but you'll always more or less have that. What do you use as best practice for keeping a clear view on all Subversion operations in the current Sprint (or beyond)?

• Where to reopen a class in RoR

  I'm attempting to reopen the String class in rails and add a bunch more methods for my app to use. Writing the code isn't a problem - my question is rather about where this code should go. It doesn't make sense to me to reopen a class inside a different model file, because it really has nothing to do with any of the models specifically. I thought perhaps somewhere in config or lib would make sense, but I'm not particularly well versed with RoR yet. To summarize, where would be the most logical place to define class-modifying code?

• Convert long number as string in the serialization

  I have a custom made class that use a long as ID. However, when I call my action using ajax, my ID is truncated and it loses the last 2 numbers because javascript loses precision when dealing with large numbers. My solution would be to give a string to my javascript, but the ID have to stay as a long on the server side. Is there a way to serialize the property as a string? I'm looking for some kind of attribute. • magento override sort order of product list by subcategories

  I'm setting up a new store using 1.4.1 I'm trying sort the products in the list by the subcategories they belong to. At the top of list.phtml is $_productCollection=$this->getLoadedProductCollection(); I tried adding sort filters to that by adding the line $_productCollection->setOrder('category_ids', 'asc')->setOrder('name', 'asc'); I also tried addAttributeToSort instead of setOrder. This doesn't seem to have any effect. I'm guessing that $_productCollection is not a model I can sort in this manner. I have been digging around trying to find the correct place to apply the sort method without any success. Can someone tell me the proper place to do this?

I have baked the model lecturer (file) I have baked the controller lecturers_controller (file) I have baked the view lecturers (folder) I need to override the default layout but I want to add YUI 3 accordion sothat the table name lecturers will be on top, after clicking on the top division it will slidedown and will show me the column name of lecturer table. Is there anyone who could suggest me how to integrate the YUI 3 accordion - Do I have to write a helper for this or simply after copying the YUI 3 library I could code this in the default.ctp file.   I have an entity model that has audit information on every table (50+ tables) CreateDate CreateUser UpdateDate UpdateUser Currently we are programatically updating audit information. Ex: if(changed){ entity.UpdatedOn = DateTime.Now; entity.UpdatedBy = Environment.UserName; context.SaveChanges(); } But I am looking for a more automated solution. During save changes, if an entity is created/updated I would like to automatically update these fields before sending them to the database for storage. Any suggestion on how i could do this?
