• Prefuse: Reloading of XML files

  Hello all, I am a new to the prefuse visualization toolkit and have a couple of general questions. For my purpose, I would like to perform an initial visualization using prefuse (graphview / graphml). Once rendered, upon a user click of a node, I would like to completely reload a new xml file for a new visualization. I want to do this in order to allow me to "pre-package" graphs for display. For example. If I search for Ted. I would like to have an xml file relating to Ted load and render a display. Now in the display I see that Ted has nodes associated called Bill and Joe. When I click Joe, I would like to clear the display and load an xml file associated with Joe. And so on. I have looked into loading one very large xml file containing all node and node relationship info and allowing prefuse to handle this using the hops from one level to another. However, eventually I am sure that system performance issues will arise due to the size of data. Thanks in advance for any help, John

• How to build an android test app with a dependency on another app using ant?

  I have a module called MyApp, and another module called MyAppTests which has a dependency on MyApp. Both modules produce APKs, one named MyApp.apk and the other MyAppTests.apk. I normally build these in IntelliJ or Eclipse, but I'd like to create an ant buildfile for them for the purpose of continuous integration. I used "android update" to create a buildfile for MyApp, and thanks to commonsware's answer to my previous question I've been able to build it successfully using ant. I'd now like to build MyAppTests.apk using ant. I constructed the buildfile as before using "android update", but when I run it I get an error indicating that it's not finding any of the classes in MyApp. Taking a que from my previous question, I tried putting MyApp.apk into my MyAppTests/libs, but unfortunately that didn't miraculously solve the problem. • C# file write permission issue under "Program Files" folder

  Hello everyone, I am using inno setup to make a installation package for my application, and my application is written by C# + .Net 2.0 + VSTS 2008. Inno setup = http://www.jrsoftware.org/isinfo.php and I install my application under Program Files/Foo folder (Foo is my application name). My application is targeting to Windows Vista. The issue I found is my program cannot write to the folder Program Files/Foo. And I need the permission of write to this folder in order to save some configuration files. The strange thing I notice is the folder Program Files/Foo is marked as readonly and I have checked all folders under Program Files are marked with read only, such as Office. My questions are, Why all folders are marked as read only under Program Files? It means we should not write to individual application folders under Program Files? If not, where should we write information to disk like user last selected configuration information of an individual application? If we could write to individual application folders under Program Files, what is the solution? I do not want my application to Run As administrator to solve this issue, and if there are solution to write to this folder, I want to require minimal permission if possible. thanks in advance, George

As far as I understand, anything annotated with @Repository should default to being a singleton and thus doSomeDatabaseStuff() should only be called once (as is my intention). The problem is that I'm seeing doSomeDatabaseStuff() called multiple times. What's going on here? Have I set something up incorrectly? I'm using spring 3.0.0. Thanks for the help.

• trouble with font-face in meteor based on Discover Meteor microscope app

  I've gone through the Discover Meteor book and successfully created Microscope. Now I'm trying to build my own app based on what I've learned. I want to use @font-face for fonts and icon fonts. I can't get them to show up. Here's my directory structure: client/stylesheets I've got my fonts in the stylesheets folder. I'm using scss, by the way, and that's working fine with the scss package. Here's how I'm calling the fonts in the stylesheet: @font-face { font-family: 'AmaranthItalic'; src: url('Amaranth-Italic-webfont.eot'); src: url('Amaranth-Italic-webfont.eot?#iefix') format('embedded-opentype'), url('Amaranth-Italic-webfont.woff') format('woff'), url('Amaranth-Italic-webfont.ttf') format('truetype'), url('Amaranth-Italic-webfont.svg#AmaranthItalic') format('svg'); font-weight: normal; font-style: normal; } I've tried '/stylesheets/Amaranth etc. and all other combinations that I can think of and nothing is working. I've tried putting them in public. Nothing. I know files like this are supposed to go in public folder but that seems to kill the stylesheets entirely. I'm not sure why the Microscope directory design would cause that to happen. These question/answers didn't help: using font-face in meteor? My current development machine is a Macbook Pro and I would like to continue using it. Overall, I am considering the following recipe: Install VMWare Fusion or Parallels or VirtualBox for running the Windows OS Buy a version of Windows to develop on Buy Windows Developer tools Having been in the open source universe all this time, I am utterly unfamiliar with the options/packages in the Windows world. I could use some help on the following: Does the recipe above look fine, or do I need to change something? What is a good VM environment to buy/use? VirtualBox is free, but Parallels/VMWare promise Windows app that blend in with my Mac windows. Could use some help on this topic Does MSFT sell a package deal which has bare bones Windows 7 and the necessary dev tools, or do I need to buy the OS and dev tools separately? • Android Apps not working in emulator

  None of my apps work in the emulator. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 and everytime I try to access my UI, the app crashes. All I get is an "Sorry! The application ... has stopped unexpectedly".   Hi all I am having some problems that I think can be attributed to xpath problems. I am using the html module from the lxml package to try and get at some data. I am providing the most simplified situation below, but keep in mind the html I am working with is much uglier. <table> <tr> <td> <table> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td> <table> <tr><td><u><b>Header1</b></u></td></tr> <tr><td>Data</td></tr> </table> </td></tr> </table> </td></tr> </table> What I really want is the deeply nested table, because it has the header text "Header1". I am trying like so: from lxml import html page = '...' tree = html.fromstring(page) print tree.xpath('//table[//*[contains(text(), "Header1")]]') but that gives me all of the table elements. I just want the one table that contains this text. I understand what is going on but am having a hard time figuring out how to do this besides breaking out some nasty regex. Any thoughts?

• Identifying and Resolving Oracle ITL Deadlock

  I have an Oracle DB package that is routinely causing what I believe is an ITL (Interested Transaction List) deadlock. The relevant portion of a trace file is below. As far as I can tell, the lack of "Rows waited on" plus the "S" in the Waiter waits column likely indicates that this is an ITL deadlock. Also, the table is written to quite often (roughly 8 insert or updates concurrently, as often as 240 times a minute), so and ITL deadlock seems like a strong possibility. I've increased the INITRANS parameter of the table and it's indexes to 100 and increased the PCT_FREE on the table from 10 to 20 (then rebuilt the indexes), but the deadlocks are still occurring. The deadlock seems to happen most often during an update, but that could just be a coincidence, as I've only traced it a couple of times. My questions are two-fold: 1) Is this actually an ITL deadlock? 2) If it is an ITL deadlock, what else can be done to avoid it?

• Unable to download .apk via webbrowser from drupal site

  I have a drupal-based website where people can log in and see private discussion forums. This is where I want to have my beta testers for my Android application download the beta .apk files. I tested this thoroughly on my Android 1.6 based myTouch 3G, and was able to log in, and download files attached to forum posts without problems. Now comes the interesting part: my testers on Droids and Nexus Ones (Android 2.0.1 and 2.1) were complaining that their downloads are failing. Since I don't have an 2.0 phone, I tried it out in a 2.0 emulator, and lo-and-behold, it didn't work. The download shows the indeterminate progress for a second or two, then shows "Download unsuccessful". Based on what I see in the logs, it is apparent that the server is returning a 404 for the download request from 2.0 browsers. I can download to my desktop and 1.6 phone no problem. The only reason I can think of that the server would return a 404 for a request is that for some reason the credentials or cookies aren't being passed by the download process. • Compiling external C++ library (Octave) for iPhone (Fortran compiler missing?)

  A friend of mine asked me if it would be possible to port the Octave project to the iPhone. I haven't compiled an external package for an iPhone project before, so I downloaded the source code, and then used some scripts found on a couple of different Web sites (one, two) to try and build the libraries. However, when I try either of these scripts (which are nearly identical), they eventually die during the configure phase with the following error output: [...snip checks...] checking whether we are using the GNU Fortran 77 compiler... no checking whether accepts -g... no checking how to get verbose linking output from ... configure: WARNING: compilation failed checking for Fortran 77 libraries of ... rm: conftest.dSYM: is a directory checking for dummy main to link with Fortran 77 libraries... rm: conftest.dSYM: is a directory none checking for Fortran 77 name-mangling scheme... configure: error: cannot compile a simple Fortran program See `config.log' for more details. • Ideal Multi-Developer Lamp Stack?

  I would like to build an 'ideal' lamp development stack. Dual Server (Virtualised, ESX) Apache / PHP on one, Databases (MySQL, PgSQL, etc) on the other. User (Developer) Manageable mini environments, or instance. Each developer instance shares the top level config (available modules and default config etc) A developer should have control over their apache and php version for each project. A developer might be able to change minor settings, ie magicquotes on for legacy code. Each project would determine its database provider in its code The idea is that it is one administrate-able server that I can control, and provide globally configured things like APC, Memcached, XDebug etc. Then by moving into subsets for each project, i can allow my users to quickly control their environments for various projects. Essentially I'm proposing the typical system of a developer running their own stack on their own machine, but centralised. In this way I'd hope to avoid problems like Cross OS code problems, database inconsistencies, slightly different installs producing bugs etc. I'm happy to manage this in custom builds from source, but if at all possible it would be great to have a large portion of it managed with some sort of package management. We typically use CentOS, so yum? Has anyone ever built anything like this before? Is there something turnkey that is similar to what I have described? Are there any useful guides I should be reading in order to build something like this?

  I am trying to create a web service, my tools of trade are: ** Axis2, Eclipse, Tomcat, Ant ** I need to create a web service from Code, i.e. Write a basic java class which will have the methods to be declared in the WSDL. Then use java2WSDL.sh to create my WSDL. So, is this approach correct: Write my Java class with actual business logic package packageNamel; public class Hello{ public void World(String name) { SOP("Hello" + name); } } Now, when I pass this Hello.java to java2WSDL.sh, this will give me the WSDL. Finally, I will write the services.xml file, and create the Hello.aar with following dir structure: Hello.aar packageName Hello.class META-INF services.xml MANIFEST.MF Hello.WSDL Now, I assume, my service will be deployed when I put the aar in tomcat1/webapps/axis2/WEB-INF/services But, here comes my problem, HOW DO I ACCESS THE METHOD World(String name)???!!, i.e. I am clueless about the client code! • MySQLdb within python2.5 virtualenv

  I have a Fedora 11 box with MySQL server. Fedora 11 uses python 2.6 internally and python 2.6 is automatically installed on the box. I have created a python virtual-env for version 2.5.5, so that I can run turbogears 1.x application. I have MySQLdb rpm installed on the box (and it works fine with python 2.6). When I import MySQLdb from within python version 2.6 it imports is successfully. When I import MySQLdb from within the python 2.5.5 virtual-env the import fails (because I have installed virtual-env with --no-site-packages). So, I have to install MySQLdb python as a local package (local to virtual-env). 'easy_install MySQL-python' within the virtual env fails. It downloads the MySQL-python-1.2.3.c1.tar.gz/download, but the 'python setup.py build' fails with error. The same problem occurs when building the MySQL outside of virtual-env. Is the 'python setup.py build' for MySQL-python trying to link to a library (and am I missing some library)? Or is the downloaded code missing some header files (unlikely)? Thanks.

  I've been hunting for a clean way to uninstall an MSOffice security update on a large number of workstations. I've found some awkward solutions, but nothing as clean or general like using PowerShell and get-wmiobject with Win32_QuickFixEngineering and the .Uninstall method on the resulting object. [Apparently, Win32_QuickFixEngineering only refers to Windows patches. See: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/winserverpowershell/thread/93cc0731-5a99-4698-b1d4-8476b3140aa3 ] Question 1: Is there no way to use get-wmiobject to find MSOffice updates? There are so many classes and namespaces, I have to wonder. This particualar Office update (KB978382) can be found in the registry here (for Office Ultimate): HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{91120000-002E-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}_ULTIMATER_{6DE3DABF-0203-426B-B330-7287D1003E86} which kindly shows the uninstall command of: msiexec /package {91120000-002E-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE} /uninstall {6DE3DABF-0203-426B-B330-7287D1003E86} and the last GUID seems constant between different versions of Office. I've also found the update like this: $wu = new-object -com "Microsoft.Update.Searcher" $wu.QueryHistory(0,$wu.GetTotalHistoryCount()) | where {$_.Title -match "KB978382"} I like this search because it doesn't require any poking around in the registry, but: Question 2: If I've found it like this, what can I do with the found information to facilitate the Uninstall? • MacBook Pro - Aquamacs - spell check

  I have tried to use spell check for aquamac. I highlighted a region of the text. Then clicked Edit, then spell check region. I got the error message: Error : No word lists can be found for the language "en_US". Then I went to the website to download the following dictionaries: CocoAspell : I just clicked the download button. It was reported that the download was successful. However, when I tested it and highlighted a text region and clicked spell check. The same error message came out. Do I need to pull the downloaded .pkg to a certain place, such as the application folder, before I opened the .pkg? Or what else do I need to do make it work? I also downloaded the base package Aspell (for Intel) and the pre-built dictionaries as (as the instruction of the website), just the same way as point 1. I still got the same error message. • Android Application is unexpectedly stopped error when button is clicked

  Hi there I'm totally new to Android development and I'm working in my android application my application includes a forum where users can post, comment and have their discussion there.... So I'm working in the interface but I get error when I click on the button I directs me to the signup page can somebody please help me with this error this is the code of the mainuserinterface.java for the mainuserinterface.xml file where the button resides. and the signupform.class is the java file for the next activity triggered when the button is clicked the error I receive is the application is unexpectedly stopped.. • Get Eclipse to recognize the maps api

  Hi I'm developing an Android app and trying to incorporate maps into one of my sub-activities. Having followed all of the instructions from Android, my java file will not recognize the "MapActivity" or the import statements to include the needed api. • How to use jaxp 3 with jdk 1.6?

  I'm trying to migrate application from jdk 1.5 to jdk 1.6 without introducing any changes visible to the end user. Application's output is an xml generated using jaxp which is a part of the jdk libraries. Since jaxp versions are different in jdk 1.5 and 1.6, the resulting xml looks different in each version. An example: DatatypeFatory.newInstance().newDuration(60) produces 'PT2H17M0.000S' in jdk 1.5 and 'P0Y0M0DT2H17M0.000S' in jdk 1.6. Both are correct, but i want to avoid any visible changes. Classes like DatatypeFactory have a mechanism which allows specifying which implementation should be used, but it relies on specifying full qualified class name. So theoretically i could download jaxp jars with the same version which is used in jdk 1.5 and let the application use them. Unfortunately the package and class names are the same in both versions, so i would have to somehow tell java to load classes from jar and not jdk. I was trying to put jaxp jars at the beginning of the classpath, but it didn't help. Is it possible to tell java to load classes from external jar and not jdk libraries? Can i solve this problem in any other way? Thanks in advance

• Unable to load huge XML document (incorrectly suppose it's due to the XSLT processing)

  I'm trying to match certain elements using XSLT. My input document is very large and the source XML fails to load after processing the following code (consider especially the first line). <xsl:template match="XMI/XMI.content/Model_Management.Model/Foundation.Core.Namespace.ownedElement/Model_Management.Package/Foundation.Core.Namespace.ownedElement"> <rdf:RDF> <rdf:Description rdf:about=""> <xsl:for-each select="Foundation.Core.Class"> <xsl:for-each select="Foundation.Core.ModelElement.name"> <owl:Class rdf:ID="@Foundation.Core.ModelElement.name" /> </xsl:for-each> </xsl:for-each> </rdf:Description> </rdf:RDF> </xsl:template> Apparently the XSLT fails to load after "Model_Management.Model". The PHP code is as follows: if ($xml->loadXML($source_xml) == false) { die('Failed to load source XML: ' . $http_file); } It then fails to perform loadXML and immediately dies. I think there are two options now. 1) I should set a maximum executing time. Frankly, I don't know how that I do this for the built-in PHP 5 XSLT processor. 2) Think about another way to match. • Linux Lightweight Distro and X Windows for Development

  Heyall... I want to build a lightweight linux configuration to use for development. The first idea is to use it inside a Virtual Machine under Windows, or old Laptops with 1Gb RAM top. Maybe even a distributable environment for developers. So the whole idea is to use a LAMP server, Java Application Server (Tomcat or Jetty) and X Windows (any Window manager, from FVWM to Enlightment), Eclipse, maybe jEdit and of course Firefox. Edit: I am changing this post to compile a possible list of distros and window managers that can be used to configure a real lightweight development environment. I am using as base personal experiences on this matter. Info about the distros can be easily found in their sites.
