  • control + enter in browser takes only .com?

    - by Abhilash M
I have this strange problem, how exactly does control + enter decides the domain of a website?? If i type stackoverflow, then hit control+enter, it works and takes to homepage, but i type ubuntuforums, then hit control + enter, it does not recognise its ubuntuforums.org, but goes to ubuntuforums.com?? How does this exactly work? If i need to change this behaviour, how should i do it?

  • Can this jQuery code snippet be shortened?

    - by David Vidmar
I have just stared using jQuery and although following code gets the job done, I have a feeling that it can be shortened. var accountAddress = $(document.createElement("input")).addClass("readOnly").attr("contentEditable", "false").attr("id", "d_accountAddress"); $("#customerid_c").next().next().next().append(accountAddress); If it is not clear - what I'm doing is creating new input tag, assigning class and making it readonly, then positioning new input two TD's to the right of some known text.

  • Should we have Browser Side Validation

    - by Raju
For a back office application which is going to be used in house and users trained to use it, does it make sense to have browser side validation. After training users will seldom make mistakes. These mistakes would get caught at the server side. Also bearing in mind that the bandwidth availability is a lesser concern I feel we should avoid browser side validations. This will save the effort of maintaining the same functionality at two places.

  • JQuery Modal Boxes and Iframe

    - by Ólafur Waage
I've been using Simple Modal and i feel it doesn't live up to what i need at the moment. Is there a Modal Box that supports loading external files and allows those external files to close the modal box and redirect the parent page to some url. An example of what i want to do. You have a list of users, you could click "Add user" and a Modal Box with the form pops up, you fill that in and submit it. That would close the box and reload the user list page so you would see the user in the list. Then you could click "Edit user" and a Modal Box with the user info filled in the form fields would pop up and you could edit, submit and it would close and refresh. I know this can be done if i have the user info form as a hidden div for each user but this will not scale well and it is a lot of overhead data. I found some code about this on Google Code but just can't get it to work (possibly different simple modal version I am willing to change to another modal box tool also. UPDATE: Do either Thickbox or Fancybox support being closed from a child IFrame element?

  • Measure width() with jQuery after DOM refresh

    - by o_O Tync
My script dynamically creates a <ul> width left-floating <li>s inside: it's a paginator. Afterwards, the script measures width of all <li>s and summs them up. The problem is that after the nodes are injected into the document — the browser refreshed DOM and applies CSS styles which takes a while. It has a negative effect on my script: when these operations are not complete before I measure the width — my script gets a wrong value. If I perform the measure in a second — everything is ok. The thing I'm looking for is a way to detect the moment when the <ul> is fully drawn, styles applied and the width has stabilizes. Or at least a way to detect every dimensions changes. Of course I can use setTimeout(..., 100) but it's ugly and I guess — not a solution at all. If there's a way to detect width stabilization — I would do the measuring right after it to get the correct values. HTML code generated by the DOM <div> <ul> <li><a href="...">1</a></li> <li><a href="...">2</a></li> .... </ul> </div> P.S. Why I need this. My paginator's left-floating <li> items tend to move to the next line when the <ul> tries to become wider than the page itself. Even though most of <li>s are invisible because of parent <div>'s width restriction: div { width: 500px; overflow: hidden; } div ul { width: 100%; white-space: nowrap; } div ul li { display: block; float: left; } they still go down unless I specify the actual summed width of the <ul> with the script.

    Hello I have a following formvalidatior function in my document. function formValidator(formid) { var form = cic.$(formid); if(!form) return (''); var errors = []; var len = form.elements.length; for(var elementIdx = 0; elementIdx < len; elementIdx++) { var element = form.elements[elementIdx]; if(!element && !element.getAttribute('validationtype')) return (''); switch (element.getAttribute('validationtype')) { case 'text' : if(cic.getValue(element).strip() == "") errors.push(element.getAttribute('validationmsg')); break; case 'email' : if(!cic.isEmail(cic.getValue(element))) errors.push(element.getAttribute('validationmsg')); break; case 'numeric' : if(isNaN(cic.getValue(element).replace(',', '.'))) errors.push(element.getAttribute('validationmsg')); break; case 'confirm' : if(cic.getValue(cic.$(element.getAttribute('sourcefield'))) !== cic.getValue(element)) errors.push(element.getAttribute('validationmsg')); break; } } return (errors.length > 0) ?   • Get and Set a Single Cookie with Node.js HTTP Server

    - by Corey Hart
I want to be able to set a single cookie, and read that single cookie with each request made to the nodejs server instance. Can it be done in a few lines of code, without the need to pull in a third party lib? var http = require('http'); http.createServer(function (request, response) { response.writeHead(200, {'Content-Type': 'text/plain'}); response.end('Hello World\n'); }).listen(8124); console.log('Server running at http://127.0.0.1:8124/'); Just trying to take the above code directly from nodejs.org, and work a cookie into it.

  • Problems with noobs putting my GA code into their sites

    - by dclowd9901
I don't mean for the title to be derogatory, but this is a rather frustrating problem, and I'm looking for a good workaround, given a language barrier involved. I have a site set up for a plugin I wrote, and, rather than use the site's resources to write their own code, I've had people simply rip the code from the samples on the site. Normally, this wouldn't be any issue at all, but they are also taking my Google Analytics instantiation, so my Analytics data is getting very skewed by incorporating visitation data from their websites. I've been able to contact the English-speaking site owners with little issue. The problem lies in the Japanese language sites that are yanking the code. I have no idea how to ask them to take down the analytics portion. Long-term, I'm providing a package that streamlines the learning-to-use process, but in the meantime, what can I do about this language barrier? Is there a way around this problem that I haven't thought of?

  • How to set html content in Moodialog

    - by Diego
Hello, i've just downloaded Moodialog, a Mootools plugin for dialog, but i have a problem. If content is set via parameters it will be text and not html. Can you help me change the function to accept html? I suppose that this is the code to be edit. setContent: function(){ var content = Array.from(arguments); if (content.length == 1) content = content[0]; this.content.empty(); var type = typeOf(content); if (['string', 'number'].contains(type)) this.content.set('text', content); else this.content.adopt(content); return this; }, I tried to edit 'text' in 'html', but it will not work. • Is it possible for a function called from within an object to have access to that object's scope?

    - by Elliot Bonneville
I can't think of a way to explain what I'm after more than I've done in the title, so I'll repeat it. Is it possible for an anonymous function called from within an object to have access to that object's scope? The following code block should explain what I'm trying to do better than I can: function myObj(testFunc) { this.testFunc = testFunc; this.Foo = function Foo(test) { this.test = test; this.saySomething = function(text) { alert(text); }; }; var Foo = this.Foo; this.testFunc.apply(this); } var test = new myObj(function() { var test = new Foo(); test.saySomething("Hello world"); }); When I run this, I get an error: "Foo is not defined." How do I ensure that Foo will be defined when I call the anonymous function? Here's a jsFiddle for further experimentation. Edit: I am aware of the fact that adding the line var Foo = this.Foo; to the anonymous function I pass in to my instance of myObj will make this work. However, I'd like to avoid having to expose the variable inside the anonymous function--do I have any other options?.

  • XUL: fit all elements vertically in prefpane

    - by Michael
here goes the XUL part of one of the preference panes. <prefpane id="alt-about" label="About" image="chrome://alt/skin/about.png"> <hbox> <vbox> <image id="armliveticker-about-logo" /> </vbox> <vbox> <description id="addonName">Bla bla bla, bla bla</description> <description id="version"/> <description>Author: bla bla bla</description> <description>ICQ: bla</description> <description>E-mail: [email protected]</description> <description>Website: www.bla-bla.com</description> <separator class="groove" flex="1"/> <description>News feed powered by Bla agency</description> <description>Exchange Rates are powered by Blaaaa Blaa of Blabla</description> </vbox> </hbox> </prefpane> and for some reason the window is not being vertically resized to fit last description element I tried many attributes, many combinations of vbox/hbox.. same. • Load an html table from a mysql database when an onChange event is triggered from a select tag

    - by Crew Peace
So, here's the deal. I have an html table that I want to populate. Specificaly the first row is the one that is filled with elements from a mysql database. To be exact, the table is a questionnaire about mobile phones. The first row is the header where the cellphone names are loaded from the database. There is also a select tag that has company names as options in it. I need to trigger an onChange event on the select tag to reload the page and refill the first row with the new names of mobiles from the company that is currently selected in the dropdown list. This is what my select almost looks like: <select name="select" class="companies" onChange="reloadPageWithNewElements()"> <?php $sql = "SELECT cname FROM companies;"; $rs = mysql_query($sql); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($rs)) { echo "<option value=\"".$row['cname']."\">".$row['cname']."</option>\n "; } ?> </select> So... is there a way to refresh this page with onChange and pass the selected value to the same page again and assign it in a new php variable so i can do the query i need to fill my table? <?php //$mobileCompanies = $_GET["selectedValue"]; $sql = "SELECT mname FROM ".$mobileCompanies.";"; $rs = mysql_query($sql); while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($rs)) { echo "<td><div class=\"q1\">".$row['mname']."</div></td>"; } ?> something like this. (The reloadPageWithNewElements() and selectedValue are just an idea for now)

  • Inconsistent Loading Times for GeoRSS Overlay Between Firefox and IE

    - by Mark Fruhling
I have a very simple page built to display a map and overlay a line based on points in a GeoRSS XML file. Here is the publicly accessible file. http://68.178.230.189/georssimport.html Firefox is loading in about 5 secs, which is expected because there are a lot of points to map, but IE (6 & 7) is taking upwards of 45 secs to a minute. What can I do to diagnose what is going on? What is a tool that will show me what is going on? (i.e. Firebug for IE) Thanks, Mark

  • How to skip to next iteration in jQuery.each() util?

    - by Josh
I'm trying to iterate through an array of elements. jQuery's documentation says: jquery.Each() documentation Returning non-false is the same as a continue statement in a for loop, it will skip immediately to the next iteration. I've tried calling 'return non-false;' and 'non-false;' (sans return) neither of which skip to the next iteration. Instead, they break the loop. What am i missing?
